my whole life in one picture

Let me tell you about my panda mini-washer

As an apartment dweller, this is a game changer. My current apartment doesn’t have a laundry facility and the closest Laundromat about a 30 min bus ride which is just not practical. The mini-washer is a life saver

The panda mini washer hooks up to the sink, is incredibly lightweight (about 28 pounds, so light even I can lift it) and easy to use.

It has a surprisingly large capacity. The basket from the first picture represents about one and a half loads. The jeans took up a whole load while the rest filled the bin only half way.

Here’s the inside. The left is the washer the right is the spin dryer. Yes, it even drys.

Basically you shove your cloths into the washer, fill it up with water and let it go. I use my shower head to fill it up so it goes faster, the sink hook up took about five minutes to fill the whole tub, with the shower head is is down to a minute an a half. I do it in three wash cycles, a five minute rinse with baking soda, a five minute wash with soap and a three minute rinse with water. You have to drain and refill between each cycle so it’s a little more labor intensive than a traditional washer.

That’s the spin dryer. It’s about half the capacity of the washer so one wash takes about two loads to dry. The spinner is much more effective than I was expecting. A three minute spin gets my cloths about 90% dry. I hang them up to air dry for that last 10%.

The machine cost me about 150$. When you factor in two dollars for the bus, five for the machines (per week), the mini-washer pays for its self after only about six months worth of laundry.

I’m not great at expressing emotion, but I’m hoping you can tell how excited I am.  Let me just say that the panda mini-washer is great and I highly recommend it to anyone currently using a Laundromat.

so i’ve seen a few posts about the foxes getting a team snapchat and i just. adore the idea so i came up with this (with the help of @minyarrd03) bear with me.

  • so one day kevin sets up this snapchat account for the foxes and it’s supposed to be professional and clips from interviews and behind the scenes and all
  • but then my boy nicky finds out the password
  • (it may or may not be jeremy’s birthday)
  • and kevin’s rant about how the foxes ‘better not ruin everything he’s been working his whole life for’? out the window. you better believe my son nicky is gonna shitpost this account into hell
  • so like the first thing he posts is a black screen with as the caption ‘does anyone want a dick pic?’
  • the next picture is kevin
  • kevin is never the same again
  • but that’s not the point. eventually all the foxes know what the password is and they all use it (except renee bless her soul) to spite kevin even more until kevin just gives up on the idea and lets them do whatever they want like usual
  • and so since the fun in spiting kevin is gone, only allison and nicky regularly use it. sometimes dan to post Real Important Stuff but that’s pretty much it
  • but anyways one day they have this really important game against this really important team and neil gets injured. and it’s not pretty.
  • and neil, because he’s neil, pretends it’s nothing and goes to get up but? his ankle obviously didn’t get the memo bc it won’t stand straight
  • so when neil is called off andrew Does Not Care about the game (more than usual anyway) and jogs up to him to help him up, an arm around his shoulders and the other out to ward off anyone who tries to get close
  • and they go to the boy’s changing room where abby’s already waiting and andrew helps neil sit down on the bench
  • and since neil does his best to hide it but is still in Very Obvious Pain, andrew lets him lay his head on his shoulder and takes his hand, noting the furrow of his brow and the way he digs his nails into andrew’s hand when abby gets his shoe off to take a look at his ankle
  • and sadly he’s too busy warning abby not to hurt neil to notice that nicky just rounded the corner and is filming the w h o l e scene
  • he posts it the same night on the team’s snapchat
  • nicky knows the exact moment andrew’s seen it, because neil sends him a short text with just ‘he’s after you’ as a warning
  • the next post on the team’s snapchat is a blurry pic with ‘IM TOO YOUNG TO DIE’ as the caption
  • the next one is a video of nicky just shrieking while running away
  • the last one is another video, but this time it’s all black. all you hear is laboured breathing and then nicky stage-whispering ‘im hiding in the closet… never thought i’d come back in here… if i die please-’ and the video ends on a scream as the closet door jerks open

atla meme - [6/7] dynamics - katara & sokka

I’m gonna tell you something crazy. I never told anyone this before, but honestly? I’m not sure I can remember what my mother looked like. It really seems like my whole life, Katara’s been the one looking out for me. She’s always been the one that’s there. And now, when I try to remember my mom, Katara’s is the only face I can picture.

i was thinking about doing a picture with the whole crew but it didn’t feel right
so i made this like the story started 20 years ago: just a lonely boy with a dream

one piece has been bringing so so so many great things - feelings, friends, inspiration, motivation -  into my life for more than the past decade, I wish I was able to thank Oda-sensei personally but this is all I can do
who knows, maybe one day i’ll find my soul mate while reading my newest volume on a park bench

viserys-last-of-his-name  asked:

So...racism in ASOIF. Pretty blatant, no? His clear equation of whiteness with beauty? The manner in which lands of color are always sexually...open. GRRM tries, sometimes, he really does, but there's some unhealthy shit there right? Could you give your thoughts on that, or link to a time when you have? Thank you! (Yes, I know my name is misspelled.)

Blanket statement before I start on this one: you can love a story to pieces and still point out its flaws and blind spots, including the racist kind. If we only consumed non-problematic media, we would consume no media whatsoever, but we still gotta be honest with ourselves about where our faves fall short. ASOIAF is my very favorite thing (shocking, I know), yet aspects of it are disappointing, and this is one of them.

For me, what really crystallized the problem with how GRRM writes the Dothraki and the Ghiscari especially is when I read some insightful people comparing that writing to how the author frames the wildlings. Personally, I think GRRM does some of his very best writing with the Free Folk. Throughout the series, the author lavishes attention on their individuality, their rich and sad history, their multi-faceted ideology and how it plays out in each of their unique life stories, all geared toward making Jon—and us—feel for them. Not just intellectually understand that they are human beings like anyone else, but feel it, in his and our bones.

I want to really emphasize individuality, because it’s important—putting faces on the monolithic swarm changes Jon’s entire worldview over the course of ACOK, ASOS, and ADWD. That’s not just a band of stinking wildlings howling for blood, not anymore. That’s Ygritte, kissed by fire, who loved and was loved, lost and was lost. That’s Tormund Giantsbane, the only one of Jon’s many dads who doesn’t project anything onto him, but simply enjoys his company and wants him to be happy. That’s Mance and Gilly and Val, people that I care about and feel I have come to know. “This is a whole people come together.” One of the worst among them gets a POV; Varamyr Sixskins is the most stomach-churning face we ever wear, but by his prologue’s end, he’s a thoroughly fleshed-out villain, his life story told. I understand him, and my understanding of the wildlings as a whole is richer for what his story communicates.

This is good storytelling, in other words. Really good. Not flawless, but overall, it’s an engine of empathy and humanization with a big-picture political aim: the wildlings are people too, and that means we have to stand with them against the Long Night.

“When the cold winds rise, we shall live or die together. It is time we made alliance against our common foe.” He looked at Jon. “Would you agree?”

“My father dreamed of resettling the Gift,” Jon admitted. “He and my uncle Benjen used to talk of it.” He never thought of settling it with wildlings, though… but he never rode with wildlings, either. He did not fool himself; the free folk would make for unruly subjects and dangerous neighbors. Yet when he weighed Ygritte’s red hair against the cold blue eyes of the wights, the choice was easy. “I agree.”

It’s stirring stuff, and a model to be studied. Those who were initially barbarians in our POV’s eyes are humanized…

…when they are white. When they are not white, the humanization drops off to a glaring and significant degree. Jon and Dany are paralleled throughout the story, but this is one very telling difference: the cultural Other in Jon’s story gets a human face, while Dany’s (to an overwhelming if not 100% complete degree) stays a swarm. This is true whether said swarm is being presented negatively…

Four of the men seemed to be named Grazdan, presumably after Grazdan the Great who had founded Old Ghis in the dawn of days. They all looked alike; thick fleshy men with amber skin, broad noses, dark eyes.

…or positively.

She trotted, then cantered, then broke into a gallop, her braid streaming behind. The freed slaves parted before her. “Mother,” they called from a hundred throats, a thousand, ten thousand. “Mother,” they sang, their fingers brushing her legs as she flew by. “Mother, Mother, Mother!”

You can definitely see parallels between Dany’s assimilation into the Dothraki in AGOT and Jon’s rumspringa with the wildlings in ASOS; @racefortheironthrone makes that case here. But the difference is that in Dany’s story on the Dothraki Sea and in Slaver’s Bay, there’s so rarely even the pretense of individualization. I challenge anyone to describe to me the characterization of Dany’s bloodriders—give me a paragraph on what makes Aggo and Rakharo different. (You would be able to with Mance v. Tormund.) Tell me about Hizdahr zo Loraq and Reznak mo Reznak as human beings. (You would be able to with Ygritte and Varamyr.) Where is the Tormund of the Dothraki? Where is the Ygritte of the Ghiscari? They are not there…or rather, they are, but GRRM doesn’t bother showing them, and seems more than a little disinterested in the people he does show. He finds “the human heart in conflict with itself” in so many other parts of the story, yet not here.

This is where Jon ends up RE the wildlings:

“I am the shield that guards the realms of men. Those are the words. So tell me, my lord—what are these wildlings, if not men?”

This is where Dany ends up RE the Ghiscari:

It was a city of strange men with strange gods and stranger hair, of slavers wrapped in fringed tokars, where grace was earned through whoring, butchery was art, and dog was a delicacy.

The latter is never countered within the text itself. We are not shown how Dany is wrong. This is a problem. (I say that even while worshipping at the altar of Dany X ADWD and recognizing that moment’s place within her personal arc; vast, contain multitudes, and so on.) But this failure of empathy, imagination, dramatization, and humanization did not occur in isolation. This is a major problem with the genre as a whole, and it’s honestly one of the reasons I’m generally much more of a horror and sci-fi guy than a fantasy guy. Those have their own issues, of course (because, again, everything we create does), but fantasy’s history lends itself to a particularly colonialist-nostalgia-tinged take on things. That is far too big a subject to summarize here, and of course concerns our relationship to all media, not just fantasy stories. So, given that a picture is worth a thousand words…Peter Jackson knew to cut Tom Bombadil, but he didn’t know to cut this:

So when I say that the way GRRM has written this fantasy story speaks to a racial blind spot, I am not making a problem up out of thin air because I want to be mad about something, as is the all-caps accusation every single time anyone brings this up. I am saying that this is yet one more nail, and that while GRRM has addressed many of the genre’s tropes and cliches with style to spare, he has also proved willing to take some disappointing and well-trodden shortcuts.

Probably one of the biggest arguments I see being used against astrology is the Barnum effect. Basically, it’s an effect that states that people are naturally inclined to believe in general, vague descriptions that can apply to everyone.

The people who make this argument get so smug because they think, “It’s true, the astrological descriptions are all so vague and applicable to everyone, so therefore, it’s bullshit!” when really, they don’t know what they’re talking about.

If you look at your natal chart, you’ll see that all of the signs are present. You are supposed to feel all of the signs resonating within you. When you read those vague Sun sign descriptions, they should ideally resonate somehow in some way. If you don’t, you have an interception, and interceptions can feel quite painful for anyone who has one in their natal chart since it shows an imbalance of the signs.

The people who make this argument also argue on the assumption that astrology was supposed to be extremely accurate, in an objective sense. What these skeptics don’t realize is that astrology is a subjective subject, and that accuracy, or the truth is truly a subjective idea when humans have different biases and perceptions due to their complexities. If accuracy was so objective, why do people still have arguments to this day? If accuracy, or the truth, was so objective, wouldn’t everybody know about it to where no conflicts would occur? Of course, this wouldn’t happen because the subjectivity of the truth is connected to our uniqueness as an individual.

Astrology was not and will never be an objective subject in its essence. If astrology was objective at all, it would be for the sake of existing and mental understanding. After all, you can’t objectify the human personality, and people who generally take an objective stance will struggle to understand that.

Astrology isn’t vague because it’s inaccurate, it’s vague because it takes the essence of life into account. Astrology is a subject that realizes that random circumstances, environments, and events all come into play when it comes to the individual. Take the variables away, and you’ll see a warped, incorrect picture of life.

You are not under construction
You are not a work in progress
I do not need to polish you up before I can show you off
You are a mosaic
Yes, you are made entirely of shattered bits and shards
But I cannot take my eyes away
I do not mean to glorify pain
There is no beauty in tragedy
I will still cry for your sorrows and weep because of all the hammers that have struck you
But I can say that there is not one broken tile in your picture that I would not be proud to show to the whole world.

I forgive everything. the stomach pains. the words lost between languages. the worst headache of my life. if nothing else, you make my hands feel like hands. listen: I’d collect your ghosts. I’d swallow them whole. once on a plane, I cried about the blanket the flight attendant gave me. it reminded me of you. there’s a love that exists somewhere between new york and cairo that has your name on it. I hope it finds you. I don’t want the pictures. I want each memory to live inside of me forever. I want the songs back. the ones the storeowners play in bayridge when they’re missing home (which is to say the songs are always playing). I forgive it all. the woman who did unforgivable things, the food that went bad too early, the impatient drivers, my stomach always leaving me. you make my heart feel like it could get something right. I want dreams for you. I want to say I’ll see you soon, but who knows when I’ll see you. you break my heart a little, but don’t let it get to you. everything breaks my heart a little. I just want you to know I remember you. you exist everywhere I go which means you’ve been across the state, across the country, across the world by now. you make my poems wilt less. you make everything wilt less. I want a world of flight for you. which means you could land anywhere. which means I already forgive if it’s a lifetime away from me.

So, I hear you liked TURN.

Apres the Season 4 finale, I know there’s going to be a lot of crying, and hand-wringing, and rewatching, and these are all good and proper things to do in the wake of a TV show you’ve enjoyed.

But after the smoke clears from all of that, you’re maybe going to go looking for your next 18th century fix, just something in between rewatches or while you’re trying to flesh out your next story idea. (Hey, now that we have our canon, go hog-wild on story ideas, guys, seriously.)

So I’ve saved you some trouble and made you all a helpful list.

Obviously there are a lot of movies and TV shows out there - this is just a selection that I wish more people knew about.

Note: Everyone enjoys a show or movie for different reasons. These shows are on this list because of the time period they depict, not because of the quality of their writing, the accuracy of their history or the political nature of their content. Where I’m able to, I’ve mentioned if a book is available if you’d like to read more.

Before we get to the rest of the list, there are three excellent shows that are either currently on television or about to be very soon:

Poldark (BBC/PBS) is based on a series of books by an author named Winston Graham. It was made into a PBS series in the 70s starring Robin Ellis as the handsome Captain Poldark, who returns from the American Revolution to find his family farm in tatters and his long-time love interest married to his cousin. Drama ensues. The 70s series is worth your time, and the recent remake with Aidan Turner in the title role is also definitely worth a go. (If you like leading men who make terrible life decisions and the women who put up with them, this is totally your show.)

Harlots (Hulu) - If you really loved the TURN ladies, thought Lola and Philomena deserved more than they got, or are just interested to learn more about what life might have been like for the lower classes in London in the 1750s, have we got a deal for you. Harlots follows the lives of 18th century sex workers in this new drama, which was just recently renewed for a totally deserved second season. Female-lead ensemble drama. A little violent at points and deals with some pretty heavy-duty topics like rape, murder, and bastardy, but in a humane and understanding way. Totally bingeable.

Outlander (Starz) - Based on the wildly popular series of books by Diana Gabaldon, this time traveling drama jumps between a couple of different centuries and follows the story of Jamie and Claire, two very strong personalities trying to literally find their place in history. (Hewlett talks about the blade his grandfather picked up at Culloden; that battle forms a critical part of this show’s storyline.) It’s a real pretty show with very high production values.

And, without further ado, the rest of the list!

John Adams:  If you haven’t watched this already, do yourself a favor and go pick it up from the library. Starring Paul Giametti in the title role, this HBO miniseries follows John Adams’ role in the formation of America, through his early days in Congress up through his own presidency. As with any biographical show, characters that we know and love from other media (Rufus Sewell’s Hamilton comes to mind, but see what you think of David Morse’s Washington, too) are presented in a slightly different light and provide some food for thought about how history can be selective in how it remembers us. The costuming is great, the sets are fantastic, and the acting is first-rate.

The Patriot: An oldie but a goodie. Mel Gibson plays a highly fictionalized version of Francis Marion, the Swamp Fox while Jason Isaacs turns in a really stellar hottie we love to hate in Colonel Tavington. A little heavy-handed at times, this is a good movie to laugh over with friends.

Sons of Liberty: I’ll be really honest - for a show from the History Channel, the history on this show is pretty awful. But the cast is pretty. This one’s up to you, really. It fills a hole.

Garrow’s Law: William Garrow was a barrister and a pioneering legal mind in the 18th century, and this show (which ran for 3 seasons) is based on real Old Bailey cases and Garrow’s defenses, while also working in his fraught social life. Were you interested in learning a little more about Abe Woodhull’s erstwhile legal training? This is the show for you.

City of Vice: A miniseries that explains the origins and work of the Bow Street Runners, one of London’s first police forces.  Does a great job of opening up some of the early 18th century underside of London including a smidge of 18th century gay culture.

A Harlot’s Progress: William Hogarth was an 18th century artist, printmaker and social commentator whose “A Harlot’s Progress” famously depicts the downfall of a woman who goes into prostitution. This 2006 series explores the relationship that inspired the ‘Harlot’ piece.

The Incredible Journey of Mary Bryant: At around the same time America was busy trying to figure itself out, halfway around the world another one of Britain’s colonial possessions - Australia - was just getting started. Hundreds of convicts found themselves stuffed in ships and sent to the other side of the world - a sentence deemed almost more humane. This 2005 series with Romala Garai follows a very famous convict, Mary Bryant, and her experiences.

Banished: Another take on penal colonies in Australia. Currently available on Hulu.

Black Sails: A more recent offering from Starz, this show explores the backstory of the pirates in Robert Louis Stevenson’s Treasure Island. Lots of great representation issues, a whole lot of ‘how does your story get told’ - and there’s a real big community on Tumblr who loves it and very actively produces all kinds of fic.

Clarissa - Simcoe fans, this one is totally for you. Based on the epistolary novel by Samuel Richardson, Clarissa follows a girl of the same name as the infamous rake Lovelace tries to seduce her. Another look at what how women can be corrupted. Also, for you fandom nerds in the crowd, Lovelace was one of the first characters to inspire fix-it fic. Yes, really! Fix-it fic in the late 1700s. Lovelace is one of the original men for whom the ‘No, really, I can reform him’ trope was created. (Richardson, his creator, was so horrified by this reaction by his fans that he actually revised the book several times to try and make Lovelace even more villainous and irredeemable, with little success. Then as now, women apparently love the idea of a bad boy.)

Amazing Grace - The history of slavery in England and its colonies is complicated and nuanced; this story deals with one of the more famous names from that story, William Wilberforce, and his contribution.

Belle - Based on the true story of Dido Elizabeth Belle, the mixed race daughter of a Royal Navy Admiral. Another look at racial politics in England.

The Aristocrats - One of my all-time favorite TV miniseries and based on the nonfiction book by Stella Tilyard, this show follows the (actual, nonfictional) Lennox sisters, daughters of the Duke of Richmond as they grow up, marry, and adjust to rapid social change from the early 1700s into the 1790s.

The Duchess  - About the same time the Lennox sisters were out in society, so was Georgiana, the Duchess of Devonshire. This is based on (I’m not sure how closely) Amanda Foreman’s biography of Georgiana, one of the leading ladies of her day.

Dangerous Liasons - Another story about corruptible young women, this one has 3 very well deserved Oscars to its name and an absolutely stunning Glenn Close.

Barry Lyndon - a very evocative, sumptuous film by Stanley Kubrick. Short on action, but very, very Aesthetic, as only Kubrick can do.

The Scarlet Pimpernel - Based on the book by Baroness Orczy, The Scarlet Pimpernel is largely considered to be one of the world’s first ‘superhero with a secret identity’ stories. Sir Percy Blakeney uses his identity as a dim-witted fop to provide cover for his activities rescuing French aristocrats from the guillotine during the French Revolution. The 1982 version with Anthony Andrews and the 1999 version with Richard Grant are both a lot of fun.

Speaking of the French, where would we be without them? Our small domestic dust-up with Britain has far-reaching international consequences, setting in motion so many other social movements in Europe. The French, for instance, will have their own revolution several years after ours, which, of course, will lead to a total political shakeup ending with an artillery officer named Napoleon Bonaparte on the throne as Emperor. (You may have heard of him. He goes on to have his own series of large wars and, you know, completely changes the geo-political landscape of Europe. Like you do.)

La Revolution Francaise, filmed for the 200th anniversary of the Revolution, is available on YouTube in it’s entirety with English subtitles! Starts in 1774 and goes through the 1800s. C’est merveilleux.

Marie Antoinette - Sofia Coppola’s wild, modern romp through the life of one of the 18th century’s most notorious women. It may not be great history, but darn me if it isn’t fun to watch.

Farewell, My Queen - Another story about Marie Antoinette - this one is in French.

Nicolas Le Floch: An 18th century crime procedural set at the court of Louis XVI. The whole show is in French, so watch with subtitles, but the costumes are a lot of fun and it gives an interesting picture of the life a character like Lafayette would have left behind when he came to America. (He gets name dropped a few times, actually, though he never actually appears.)

Ekaterina: A 2014 miniseries from Russia discussing the rise of Catherine the Great, the Empress of Russia from 1762 to 1796, contemporaneous to the Revolution. The 18th century is a fascinating time in Russian history and Catherine is a really, really interesting lady. Totally go and read about her.

Anno 1790: A Swedish crime procedural set in 1790s Sweden and following Johann Däadh, a doctor recently roped into the police force. Däadh is a bit of a reformer, interested in the rights of man and giving everyone a chance to be heard. Costumes are fun, and there’s a really great slow-burn romance between two of the characters, one of whom is (gasp) married. This show only ran for one season, but it was a really, really good season.

If you’re still jonesing for period dramas after the rest of this list, here’s a lot of shows and tv series set during the Napoleonic Wars that are also totally worth your time - the Richard Sharpe miniseries, the Horatio Hornblower miniseries, the BBC’s War and Peace, Master and Commander, and then, of course, anything based on a Jane Austen novel.

Have fun!

Summary: A cute little Chris Evans x Reader where you have just one thing missing, and you attempt to make it fall into place to create a picture-perfect life. Who knew having kids with the love of your life would be so perfect?
Warnings: light smut (unprotected sex), lots of fluffiness
Word count: 1165
A/N: I would complain about this whole thing popping into my head during the time where I should be studying but I’d never say no to a cute fluffy fic. This was inspired by one of @emilyevanston‘s adorable headcanons!

  • you: Het!Chrobin’s supportz sux
  • me, an intellectual: While supports do play a factor, Chrobin has ship tease that goes beyond their supports, canonically, no matter who marries who. Might I also add, well past Chapter 13. And no matter what gender Robin is. It’s always Robin who gives Chrom an ear to listen with in Chapter 6, it’s always Robin who pulls Chrom out of his Heroic BSOD, it’s always Robin Chrom is so grateful, he thanks the gods to have ties with, it’s always Robin Chrom trusts, it’s always Robin’s life and existence Chrom priorities even though their sacrifice would prevent things from repeating itself. Which is not even counting how Chrom rejects any notion of ending Robin’s life, let it be prevent Validar from controlling them, or sacrificing themselves to end Grima’s existence. And, of course, let’s not forget it’s ALWAYS Chrom’s voice that first breaks Robin out of their own near-Heroic BSOD during the Endgame. Likewise, a Robin of either gender always declares their life began when Chrom found them, and in the Future Past DLC Grima flat-out says Robin, regardless of gender, loved Chrom. So, really the Het!Chrobin supports are just one little tiny piece of a far bigger picture. A ‘greater whole‘, if you will.

I saw this picture of one of my favorite humans, Hank Green, floating around and felt like I had to add these basic examples.

Yes, there are extremely harmful chemicals/molecules out there, but you can’t be afraid of all chemicals because literally everything is made of chemicals - from the air to your full body. Your body functions because it makes chemicals and reacts with other chemicals. Your senses are results of chemical reactions. Your emotions are chemicals, your food and nutrition are chemicals, your whole life is chemicals. Whether it’s a solid, liquid, or a gas. Chemicals.

There’s a big reason why you have to take a lot of chemistry when you study biology…

Life IS chemistry.

We can be rich, and we also all get to keep one and we can play nintendo games! Nintendo, give me free stuff.“
  • “ Oh, wow. That’s an intense line of questioning“
  • “I’ve got about a thousand memories of your dumb, little ass and about six of them are pleasant. The rest is annoying garbage. “
  • Have you acquired creepy specific old stuff from a mysterious antique or thrift store that gives you powers, but fucks with you in unforeseeable ways?
  • “I don’t want him to leave again, you dumb asshole!!“
  • “My people have another saying. “Gubba nub nub do ra ka.” It means, “Whatever lets you sleep at night."”

“I detected something.”, the captain informed the others, “Her helicopter is just below us.”

“I don’t want to ruin your moment but there’s nothing below us.”, Tony stated as he went closer to Steve and looked at the monitor.

“She must have activated the invisible shield so we cannot see her, but the ship is on the ground.”

The passengers put their seatbelts on while Steve landed the helicopter. Once they were outside,  the Avengers were greeted by the frightening view. Wanda looked away and covered her mouth, Steve just closed his eyes for a moment. Everyone was stunned.  Vision was the first one to reach the bodies of the dead children.

“I understood now why she had decided to come.”, Nobody else dared to speak. The grey and icy place filled with death and ash shouldn’t be disturbed.

“We better go.”, Clint broke the silence. Pointing out (Y/N)’s steps formed in the ash, the man led the avengers towards Hydra’s base.

“It’s all in my head. You are not real! You cannot be real!”, (Y/N) kept saying this out loud but more to herself rather than to the people in front of her.

“Oh, sweetheart. We are more than real.”, the woman couldn’t stop grinning but from what was hard to be said. She was sitting on a chair with her legs crossed and a file in her hands. She had shoulder long brown hair. Her face looked young, with sharp features and sleek skin. The only thing giving away the ages were the wrinkles on her neck. (Y/N) looked again at her, trying to believe what she had heard. Her brain was against all of this. It whispered her that everything was an illusion, a false reality she should not believe in but once she met those grey eyes of the woman she knew. She knew that that was the reality, that the woman and the man in front of her were indeed her…

“Family.”, the man spoke, “Our family is together again.”

“My parents died some months ago. I saw them being killed.”

“You think we would really do this!?”

“You can be our daughter but we won’t risk our lives and mission because of you.”, the woman, whose name was Amanda, informed the girl. Although the words hurt the witch, she gulped and tried to understand the whole situation.

“Then why did you do that? I don’t understand anything!”, finally the power of her voice came back, “Why was I locked here and tortured while you were able to stop it!?”, with each world, her tone was getting louder and louder.

“We didn’t want to.”

“Wha- ”, (Y/N) tried to protest, to shout, to cry, to do something but she couldn’t.

“I thought you could have at least inherited my intelligence but no. Just like your father. Never knowing what’s going on.”, Amanda stood up and went to a near table. It was far but the girl was still able to see what was on it – nothing good.

“The kidnap, it was all fake. We planned this for months and I’m happy it went well. I was scared the civilians would scream and try to help you but the money we gave to the soldiers was enough to stop the people. It’s amazing what money can do to humanity, don’t you think?”, her mother was still with her back towards the girl and (Y/N) wasn’t able to see what she was doing.

“Why did you bring me here? Why did you lie to me and did this thing?”

“You were, how old, six or seven? I can’t remember and I don’t care. Too young but still old enough to understand it. We are the leaders of this base, (Y/N)! We were given time and recourses to achieve our mission. Thinking about what would happen to you never occurred to me, to be honest. I thought only about the success. And when you were the only one showing a problem with your abilities I was obliged to do everything to unlock them.”

“Didn’t you feel sorry about doing this to me? To your daughter!?”, (Y/N) screamed and the floor shaken slightly due to her powers.  The woman laughed and turned around carrying and injection with a green substance in it.

“No.”, Amanda said calmly and sat on the chair opposite her child, “Torturing you was the only way to keep you alive. So you better thank me not blame me.”

“You should have let me die.”, (Y/N) calmed down her rage, “You have no idea how many times I wanted this. How many times I was so close to ending my life. And you could have stopped me only because you need me as a weapon. I desired to see you again, to hug you and hear the words ‘I love you’, to tell me that everything was fine and we could go.”

“You should stop living in such a fairy tale. Life isn’t like that.”, her father spoke which made the girl look at him. He had been here for the whole time and after the first seconds she had forgotten about him.

“You must look at the big picture not at the details. You are a weapon, my weapon and I will use you whatever it takes. When you escaped I hoped you have died somewhere so no one would understand about you being a failure. I didn’t want to lose my head because of you being a disgrace. But I was wrong.”, the woman stood again and start walking towards the girl. (Y/N) was moving in order to escape and get away from that person she was supposed to call mother, “You have no idea how blessed you are for being trained by the avengers. Now, your powers are raging inside you, ready to explode and ruin everything. I cannot miss such an opportunity, darling.”, Despite her soft hands, the grip on (Y/N)’s face was strong enough to make her stop moving. Seconds later the girl felt a strong pain in her neck as the injection had went though her skin. It didn’t take much until the liquid had reached her brain. The things in front of her were blurring and spinning. She blinked several times but it didn’t get better. The girl tried to use her powers but had no energy for that.

“What are you doing to me?!”

“Something we are very popular with – brainwashing.”, the envy smile was the last thing (Y/N) saw.

“Why aren’t there any guards?”, Peter asked as the avengers reached the base.

“I think they were occupied with (Y/N).”, Tony stated, “Jarvis scanned the building. Some are coming towards us but most are deep down probably protecting something, or somebody.”

“So, Clint, I, Tony and Bruce will make you a way and keep the agents occupied. You go.”, Nat announced.

The group waited until Iron man, Black widow, Hawkeye and Hulk cleared their way. Once it was done the others broke into the base without any problems. Steve and Vision took left, while Thor, Wanda and Peter took right. They were walking in silence as every one of them was immersed in their thoughts. Nobody was surprised by the fact Peter didn’t speak. They all knew how close they had become and the fact that Peter was in love with the girl. The avengers were so happy for them, especially Wanda and Tony. For Tony Peter was like a son. He loved him although he tried to cover it with his sarcasm as he tended to do. Wanda felt (Y/N) as her own sister and was glad to see her adapt with the avengers and slowly falling in love finally able to feel like a normal teenager with superpowers.

“Now…where?”, Thor questioned. They had three options – along, left or right.

“I’m for left.”

“You can sense her?”, Peter asked filled with hope but Wanda’s answer ruined his beliefs.

“No, Peter. See the mountain of bodies.”, Thor and Peter looked left and saw the whole corridor covered in blood and dead men.

Peter was shocked. ‘Had (Y/N) done that?’, he couldn’t believe what he saw and despite the view, he wasn’t going to give up on her. He knew she was dangerous but everyone needed to be shown a path of good and he was willing to give it to her.

“Let’s go, we are running out of time!”, Peter was running through the bodies not caring about them.  The little witch was the only thing in his head. Wanda and Thor kept up with him until they reached what they were looking for.

“It’s not working.”, an angry voice reached (Y/N)’s ears. She was in that condition when you are neither asleep nor awake. She was and wasn’t here. She knew she was under an opiate. It created so many illusions that kept her on the edge. Real and Surreal. What should she trust? She kept seeing Peter coming but not rescuing her. He had been telling her she was a monster, weapon, dangerous. That he was ashamed of her and he never meant the lovely things he had said. Deep inside she knew it wasn’t true but the words…He, real or not, was right. She was a killing machine, not deserving love, family, anything.

“Why isn’t it working, Samuel?”

“I – I don’t k-know.”, the man stuttered, “I tested it several times and it worked.”

“I need it to work on everybody! I will make it on my own.”, a sound of a gun shooting echoed through the room. It affected (Y/N) and she slightly opened her eyes for some seconds. The woman was nearing her carrying another injection in her hands.

“Calm down, darling. We are not finished, yet.”, Amanda was inches away from her when somebody started beating the door. The woman turned around and when she realized what was about to happen, she hurried to inject the girl. The needle was in her neck when the door broke and flew across the room. Amanda crouched in order to keep her face safe.

When Peter saw his precious girl tied on a chair looking dead and with an injection in her skin, he ran towards her. Taking the needle out he tried to bring her back.

“(Y/N), (Y/N)! Hey, listen to be sweetheart! I’m here, you are fine.”, but the girl was drugged and the effects of it weren’t disappearing that fast.

“Don’t you dare move!”, Wanda shouted. Peter turned around and saw a woman holding a knife and struggling to get out of Wanda’s magic hold.

“What have you done to her?”, Peter screamed at the woman but received a laugh. The boy turned around to face the girl and untied her.

“You can’t save her.”, the tone sent shivers down his spine. Something in the way she had said that made him believe the spoken. ‘No!’ He was going to save her, to protect and care about her and nothing was going to stop him from that. Peter took one of (Y/N)’s hands and put it on his shoulders trying to keep her up. As he was about to call Thor for help he saw him falling on the ground. Wanda loosened her magic grip on the woman with the knife in shock. The woman used this opportunity and stuck the cold weapon in his thigh. Screaming in agony, Peter lost balance and was going to fall on the ground but with the other leg he managed to stay up. (Y/N) groaned at those movements. Peter’s muscles were on fire. He had experienced worse things and holding a girl wasn’t supposed to be hard for him. As Peter was struggling with taking the knife away, Wanda was fighting with agents that had appeared without the three avengers noticing. Thor had been hit by a device that knocked him out. Using her powers, Wanda was doing good but for now.

“Peter, hurry!”, but the boy’s scream made her look away. She saw that the woman had injured the spider-boy. Scarlet witch didn’t know what to do and the seconds it took her to decide, she felt her body paralyzing and falling on the ground.

Spiderman saw his two partners lying on the floor, (Y/N)’s body seemed heavier and heavier with each minute passing.

“Peter.”, (Y/N) murmured and tried to open her eyes but still in vain.

“Karen…help.”, but the voice in his suit wasn’t answering him.

“I told you boy.”, the woman that had attacked him was now in front of him and grinning with satisfaction, “The knife was poisoned, that’s why you are feeling so weak.” , Peter found it hard to breathe and stay up.

“We-”, he spoke but fell on his knees dropping the girl’s body, “escape.”

“I don’t think so. Tie them!”, Amanda shouted at the soldiers around her. The four superheroes’ bodies were being dragged while the (Y/N)’s mother was muttering something.

“What would be better that having the avengers as our own bitches?”

today, some classmate i barely knew hugged me. like out of nowhere. and it was probably one of the nicest acts anyone has ever done to me in years.

i was just mindlessly walking and she stepped up to me and opened her arms to someone she didn’t even really know and she hugged me. i don’t even know why it meant so much to me, but it really fucking did. and it was a really good hug, like. i had no strong opinion of the girl, but now i’ve gained so much respect for her.

i can’t get over how bizarre and freaking selfless the hug was. i didn’t even realize i needed it until i got it. and the way she just, like, held me. like she didn’t let go. i was super unsure at first if i should have hugged back. it was weird at first, well, not weird. unexpected. and i was completely caught off guard.

anyways i don’t even know why i’m sharing this and obviously this entire post is just a scattered mess of introspection, but yeah so. what really fucking made me break was that she just held me (ish) there and she thanked me. just thanked me. like she just appreciated my sheer existence. yeah. i can guarantee that that was probably one of the most impactful moments of my life that i’m grateful i ever got to experience.

the whole happening was just so calming and heartwarming. and kinda perfect? i don’t know. and she played it off really good after, too. so it wouldn’t be like awkward or whatever. she joked about how she was gonna follow me on instagram because i was cool and i told her i’d follow back and like all her pictures cause she’s awesome.

and yeah. that moment made me feel like i was something for the first time in a while. she probably doesn’t know how much what she did had helped me. today was the last day of school and i don’t know how i’ll be able to thank her. but i’m just really content now. and i hope this feeling is something i’ll be able to share with others.

that’s about it.

vanyhowwell  asked:

Hi! Can I just request a hc that RFA+V+ ??? know Vany from college or something but don't "recognise" her in the Chatroom and are really surprised seeing her at the party? So they're like "hey I know you haven't we met before?" Or "omg mc?!??!?" 😂 i think that could be quiet interesting! Thank you!

Interesting scenario! Hope you like these:)

Let’s make this an AU where no drama happens. You plan the party successfully from the apartment. It’s held 11 days later at noon, and that’s the first time you met any of them.

Zen:

  • When he saw your picture in the chatroom, he thought you were vaguely familiar
  • But he kind of brushed it off when you guys started talking
  • You recognized his face as well
  • But you thought it was just because you’ve seen it online
  • He was popular after all
  • When you met in person, you start talking about your life before RFA
  • He asks where you lived before Rika’s apartment
  • You tell him the area and gives a weird face
  • Turns out you guys were neighbors before the whole ordeal
  • “So you were the one stealing my paper in the morning!”
  • “But, MC, my face was on it!”

Yoosung:

  • You guys talked a lot outside of the chatroom
  • Turns out you had a lot of knowledge about games
  • Although there was something familiar about the way you spoke
  • Yoosung just thinks “It’s destiny! We’re connected.”
  • When you meet at the party, you come up to him and chuckle
  • “I’m pretty sure we’ve met before.”
  • He’s confused
  • Wouldn’t he have remembered someone like you?
  • So you clear your voice and say “Would you also like to check out the new games coming in next week?”
  • He finally recognizes you from the game shop down the street from his place
  • You used to work there and he visited often while his game addiction grew
  • Who knew you’d meet again a few months later?

Jaehee:

  • When you heard that Jaehee worked for Jumin, you thought the name sounded familiar
  • You realized C&R was the company you interned at back in college
  • You and Jaehee were supportive acquaintances as she was also interning there
  • When you heard about all the work she was putting in, you sympathized with her
  • You remembered the torture it could be sometimes
  • It was also the reason you pushed her so much to leave the company
  • You kept the fact that you’d known her before secret
  • When you met at the party, Jaehee recognized you right away
  • “You brought me extra coffee every day! I remember!”
  • She’s kind of beating herself for not recognizing you immediately

Jumin:

  • When he first spoke to you on the phone, he thought your voice sounded kind of familiar
  • But, he didn’t let it bug him
  • He always wondered how you knew so much about C&R and other business ordeals
  • At the party, someone asked where you worked before helping with the RFA
  • You mention that you were a secretary and assistant to some company nearby
  • Turns out it was a company that Jumin’s company owned
  • He had actually met you and interacted with you on more than one occasion
  • He apologized for not realizing who you were
  • You told him not to worry about it
  • But he started trying to remember whenever he interacted with other companies…even if it was a different department

Seven:

  • You two talked in the chatroom like old friends
  • Much to the chagrin of the others, you worked together really well
  • It was strange to everyone, even the both of you, that you had only just met
  • Until it came to the party and Jaehee asked Seven when and where he went to church last
  • When he mentions the one from when he was fifteen, you realize
  • You two went to the same church
  • Apparently, you sat next to each other and would exchange notes in the sermon
  • Thankfully for Seven, you didn’t mention anything about him coming alone or about his family life
  • You were closer after that

V:

  • When V first logged into the chatroom, it was a bit weird for you, but you tried to act cool
  • It turns out you and him went to college
  • You actually had some feelings for him
  • But then Rika came along and you backed off
  • When you met at the party, you tried not to act like you knew him
  • But it was the first time he heard your voice, and he recognized you
  • “MC….from college, right? You stopped contacting me.”
  • You chuckled and explained that you got busy
  • After that, he started to contact you more to catch up

Sourdough Bread Starter

Since a lot of people were interested in my sourdough bread shenanigans, I thought I would teach you guys how to make your own starter. It’s going to take a few days to get going, and I still need more in the works pictures before the actual post, so I’m giving you this info now.

Why do I need a starter? I have powdered yeast at home.

Because that is the difference that makes sourdough bread unique! The yeast granules you get at the store were developed more military use in WWII, for rations for the soldiers, then sometime in the 1970s is when instant yeast was discovered. These yeasts work very, very quickly in comparison to wild yeast, which is why so many people prefer them now. The downside to this is, the yeast doesn’t get a chance to break down the grains as well, which means you aren’t getting all of the nutrients, and if you’re like me you can have a hard time digesting wheat. If you think you might be gluten intolerant because bread and wheat products are tough on your digestive system, it may be the wheat itself and sourdough might work for you. Just another possibility for you to look into. :)

Wild yeast takes several hours to rise, so making bread is an all day event. That being said, it’s more like, you do something, then leave it alone for 3 hours. Flip it a few times every 30 minutes for 3 hours, then let it sit for 4 more hours. That sort of stuff. This also means no hard kneading, since the gluten has time to develop on its own during the rise. (As a spoonie I cried of joy.) The fermentation from the yeast’s waste is what gives the bread the sour taste, and lets the grain develop all sorts of deep flavors.

Now that you know why, let’s get to how!

You’ll need

-a glass jar,
-some flour (I use unbleached all purpose and whole wheat, there’s others you can use, but all purpose is the least finicky)
-distilled water (you can use your tap, but if it’s having trouble switch, sometimes there’s minerals in water that mess with the yeast).

Do not use any metal utensils on the yeast until it’s started up. Wood or plastic only. After it’s strong the metal won’t be a problem.

Day 1

In your jar, mix together 4 ounces in weight of both water and flour. This comes out to about ¾ cup all purpose flour, and ½ cup of water. It doesn’t have to be exact. What you are going for is like a thickish pancake batter. If you’re using a whole grain you’ll need to use a closer ration of flour/water since it absorbs more. Depending on the humidity of your kitchen, you could need to adjust as well. My advice is you add a little bit of flour at a time, instead of dumping it all in at once. Cover loosely, enough to keep dust & bugs out but open enough for it to breathe. A flour sack towel is good, or you can use one of those sandwich bags over the top of the jar. Store somewhere with a consistent temp between 60-78 ish Fahrenheit. 70-75 is ideal, but my house is always colder. Don’t let it get put by the oven when it’s on, or you risk the chance of killing it

Day 2

Pull down your jar. You might already start to see some bubbles, and this is good! That’s the yeast eating. It’s fine if you don’t see any activity yet though. I suppose now is the time is to tell you that not to be concerned about any icky bacteria - the yeast keeps the mix too acidic for anything nasty to grow. You’ll want to vigorously mix in the same amounts of flour and water as you did yesterday, then recover it, and put it back in the spot you found for it.

Day 3

Check you starter, it should have bubbles all along the surface by now, and it should seem bigger than what it was when you put it up yesterday. It’s going to smell sour and musty as well (Mine was almost like a weird fruity smell for awhile!). Add in the same proportions of flour to water as you have before, you’ll probably hear little bubbles popping and smacking while you vigorously stir. Cover it, put it back in it’s place.

Day 4

The starter should be very bubbly, and will have doubled in volume (or, you’ll evidence on the sides of the jar that it grew and then deflated). If you stir it, it’s going to feel loose, and it’ll smell yeasty. Add the same proportions of flour and water as before. Stir until smooth, it’ll look silky. It honestly reminds me so much of the fake slime some people use for stimming? Cover it, put it up until tomorrow.

Day 5

Check the starter - if it’s entirely webbed with bubbles, smells acidy, yeasty, and “fresh”. It’s safe to taste - which it should be sour. If it all looks good, congratulations! Your starter is ripe and ready to make a leaven with. Those instructions will come in a further post. If you see activity, but it doesn’t seem done yet, continue with the maintenance instructions that will follow daily. If there is no activity at all something is wrong and you will need to troubleshoot and start over entirely.

Maintenance Instructions:

At this point the starter is too large too effectively feed anymore, so you’ll need to use or throw away half of the batter. Save half, then feed with the proportions you established when you started it. Do this daily for as long as the starter is on the counter.

If the starter is established, but it’s going to be awhile before you bake, place in the refrigerator and feed weekly. You’ll want to remove it 2-3 days before baking and follow daily maintenance directions.

Note: If at any point your start develops a dark liquid on top, don’t freak out! This is called hooch, and it is alcohol waste leftover from the yeast feeding. It just means your starter is hungry and needs to be fed more often, or you need to reduce the batter more before feeding. Poor off the liquid if there’s a ton, then feed.

————————————————————————————–

Obviously this makes a lot of starter, and with you only needing about ¼ cup for two loaves of bread, it can seem wasteful. The good thing, is that you can use the starter batter mixed into any pancake or muffin dough, you just won’t need leavener (baking soda/powder). I also plan to write posts with alternative recipe ideas. Last night I prepped cinnamon rolls with extra starter and let them rise overnight. Baked them in the morning and they’re amazzzzzing. I’m going to have plenty for other experiments. Also, if a friend or family member wants a starter, just give them your extra starter in a jar with some feeding directions. :)

————————————————————————————–

As far as the magick side of it, there’s a whole lot you can do as a kitchen witch during all steps of these processes. As someone who talks to her houseplants I found myself treating the starter like a little pet and being affectionate towards it. My first loaf was picture perfect, and I’d like to think this might have been why. ;)

When we get to the bread, I’ll explain how to enchant the bread with a specific purpose when you make it. As far as the starter is concerned, I would do something generic if anything since you’ll be (theoretically) growing this one specimen your whole life. I focused on strength and health of the starter itself, to make sure that it could make wonderful bread.
