‘You were singing really loudly in the shower when I broke into your apartment but then i heard you slip and crash and oh god i should probably check on you in case i get done for murder instead of just robbery’ AU

It took all of fourteen seconds for Derek to realize he was in the wrong apartment.

First, he noticed the very large and scuffed up sneakers and boots ditched haphazardly kind of near the door but half into the living room. Cora was meticulous about her shoes and kept them neatly arranged in a shoe rack right next to the door. The only time they touched the floor was when her feet were in them.

Second, the stuff. There was so much stuff everywhere; clothes thrown over the back of the couch, dishes across the coffee table and all over the kitchen counters, books on every surface, a gaming console dragging wires across the floor and surrounded by games, in cases and out of them. Cora was an unintentional minimalist, in that she threw out anything she didn’t need and lacked a single sentimental bone in her body. Derek and Laura regularly made trips to wherever she lived to save family keepsakes and memories from her ruthless cleaning sprees.

Then he noticed the manly warble coming from somewhere deeper in the apartment, and Cora’s favorite topic of rant floated lazily to the forefront of his mind.

—but my neighbor, oh my god this guy! I’m going to kill him if I ever see him in the hall! His bathroom shares a wall with my bedroom and he sings in the shower, every shower, at all hours. Literally all hours, like 4am, and he only sings Christmas carols at 4am. I’ve had Jingle Bells stuck in my head for a week!

Shoes, stuff, singing.

This was not Cora’s apartment.

Hey, I love your gods&monsters series, could you write something about Apollo? ^Preferably something with a positive vibe, something romantic... But that's totally up to you, anything about Apollo makes me happy

Apollo has many sons.

He only ever has nine daughters.

~

He has his first when he’s young, too young to know better.

Daphne is beautiful and coy, and leads him on a merry chase. He catches her, and finally silences her laughing mouth with his own. They sleep together, and she leaves bite marks up his neck.

Her father, the river god Peneus, finds out about them. Apollo had not known it was secret. Peneus is a hard, selfish god, and he slits Daphne’s throat for her impurity. Better a dead daughter then one who does not listen.

Apollo finds out too late. He arrives to Daphne dead on the side of her father’s riverbank, stomach swollen in a way Apollo doesn’t remember it being the last time he saw her, which was – which was – it couldn’t have been that long, could it?

He cuts open her stomach, throat too tight to call for his sister’s help, heart too tight to bear anyone else looking at Daphne’s slack, bloody face.

The child is still warm.

The child is still alive.

He cannot bring himself to bury Daphne, to sentence her to an afterlife beneath the earth. Instead, he transforms her into a large laurel tree, so her beauty will remain eternal. He presses a hand against her trunk and says, “My hair will have you, my lyre will have you, my quiver will have you.” Apollo looks down at the baby, too small, tucking into the crook of his arm. “Our daughter will have you.”

He calls her Calliope. Their daughter weaves laurel leaves into her hair every day of her life.

~

When he is older, but not wiser, he gets drunk on the top of Olympus. It is not the first time, nor the last, but this time it is different.

This time Hestia, goddess of the hearth, of warmth, of family, places her delicate hand around the back of his neck and leads him to her rooms.

Months later, he lands his chariot, the sun finally set. His arms are shaking, and his legs are covered from burns when the sun grew tired and tried to consume him, but could not. Hestia stands before him, something held in her arms. “What’s wrong?” he asks roughly, throat dry and the skin of his lips cracking. Hestia rarely leaves Olympus.

“I am no mother,” she tells him, and he doesn’t understand until she places a warm, squirming bundle in his arms. He holds it to his chest automatically. “Her name is Terpsichore.”

She leaves before he has the chance to question her. He looks down, and the baby has his golden eyes and her dark hair. “Hello, little one.”

Calliope is fully grown now. Apollo leaves Terpsichore in her care, and promises to come when called.

“Yes, Father,” Calliope says, rolling her eyes as her little sister grabbing fistfuls of her curly hair. There’s an ink smudge across her face, and her home is bursting with books. He should really talk to Athena about letting Calliope use one of her libraries.

He kisses both their foreheads before leaving.

~

Apollo falls in love with a Spartan prince, graceful and strong and with a wide, pretty mouth. He falls in love with a mind that can match him, with a smile that leaves him breathless. Hyacinth captures his affections and attentions utterly, and for a few short years Apollo is enchanted, for a few short years Apollo feels a love deep in his chest that is only surpassed by the love he has for his sister.

Then Hyacinth is killed.

He shows up at his daughters’ door, and Calliope and Terpsichore take one look at him and usher him inside. He can’t bring himself to speak, but he’s covered in blood that isn’t his own, is pale and shaken and mourning.

They clean him and care for him and settle him to bed, although he cannot bring himself to sleep.

Less than a week later, there is a mortal woman there looking for him. Her eyes are red, but she stands tall and her lips are pressed into a straight line. A toddler who shares her dark coloring clutches her skirt. “I am the Princess of Sparta, and wife of Hyacinth.”

Apollo hadn’t known Hyacinth had a wife. He hadn’t asked. Surely he would have noticed – but then again, perhaps not. Love makes people stupid. “I am sorry for your loss.”

“As I am sorry for yours,” she says in return, which surprises him. “Sparta must have a prince. I am to be remarried.” She brings the little girl forward, and she can’t be more than a couple years old. “This is Urania, the child of myself and my husband. I have been ordered to kill her.”

Apollo flinches. He knows such things are done, but – she is Hyacinth’s daughter. “I will take her.”

She smiles. “I thought you might.” She kisses the girl on both cheeks, hands her to Apollo, then leaves as quickly as she’d came.

Urania watches them with big liquid eyes that she got from her mother. He stays with his daughters for a year after that, playing with Urania and watching Terpsichore dance and listening to Calliope’s beautiful poetry. Urania loves the stars. She stares up at them each night, and Apollo patiently explains the name of each one.

When she is fully grown, he begs a piece of ambrosia off Hestia and feeds it to her.

Urania is his daughter as surely as if his blood ran through her veins. He cannot bear to watch her age and die.

Marpessa chooses Ida over him, but it is too late. She already swells with his child, and he could use that to keep her. He could force her to stay at his side, she loves him, she said so, it would not be such a cruel thing.

But she is not wrong in her assessment. Apollo is immortal, and will not grow old with her, will not change with her, will not die with her. Ida will.

There’s fear on her face, and he thinks she deserves it, for proclaiming to love him and choosing another. But he is not interested in keeping her captive for a lifetime.

“Have the child, and give it to me,” he commands, “and I will leave you to your life.”

Ida is furious in his jealousy that Marpessa will bear a child for Apollo before she bears a child for him, so there is that comfort, at least.

Artemis delivers the child to ensure it goes smoothly. She’s beaming as she holds her niece. “What will you call her?”

“You choose,” he says, running the back of his finger over the babe’s soft cheek.

His sister considers the squalling child for a long moment before she says, “I think you should name her Thalia.”

“Thalia it is,” he says.

She’s mischievous, and reminds him of himself on his worst days. She grows, and pulls pranks on nymphs and deities. Her older sisters are constantly straining to keep her out of worse trouble.

He gets a frantic message from Calliope that Thalia has gone missing, and he eventually finds her at the edge of a scorched battlefield, the soldiers long gone but the bodies and stench remaining. He’s furious at her for going to a place so dangerous, but when he marches up to her he sees something that he hadn’t expected.

She’s hallway through a story about pranking a wood nymph that he knows is at least half lies and a quarter exaggeration. Curled up on the ground, clutching his stomach as he laughs so hard he can’t breathe, is Ares.

Apollo hasn’t seen the tormented god of war this carefree since he was a child.

Thalia finally notices him, and cuts herself off, paling. “Oh, uh. Hi Dad.”

Ares is downright giggling. “Hello Thalia,” Apollo crosses his arms and glares, “You shouldn’t go wandering away from your sisters.” She winces and nods, ducking her head to look up at him through her eyelashes, doing her best to look contrite and innocent.

It might have worked, if Apollo hadn’t taught her that look himself.

He sits down on the ground next to Ares, who doesn’t acknowledge his presence beyond shifting enough to use Apollo’s thigh as his pillow. “Well,” Apollo says, “keep going.”

Thalia lights up and launches back into the story, and when she finishes she continues into another which is mostly true and somehow even more ridiculous.

~

Because he’s an idiot with a death wish, Apollo ends up spending a month with Hecate in the underworld. He stumbles out one night when she falls asleep, because he feels if he doesn’t leave now there’s a possibility that he never will.

One of the most horrifying moments of his life is looking for the way out, and finding Hades instead. The god of death looks to him, walking around naked in his realm, to the direction he came from, and says, “That was you? Are you crazy?”

“It … it was a good time,” he says faintly.

“Obviously,” Hades shakes his head, and slices his hand down in the air in front of them, creating a doorway for Apollo out of his realm.

Apollo gives him a clumsy salute and steps through.

Roughly a year later, he’s playing his lyre when a little girl with black skin and grey hair and eyes appears in front of him. It’s terrifying enough that he accidentally snaps one of his strings.

“Lady Styx,” he says, voice higher pitched than normal. “Is there something I can help you with?”

The child snorts and reaches her hands into absolutely nothing and pulls out a baby. She holds it out to him. “Hecate says this is your problem now.”

Improbably, the babe already has a mouth full of too-sharp teeth. Her eyes shift between every color, unable to decide, and there is something a little too knowing about her face for one so young. Artemis says he too was born knowing too much.

A child of Apollo and Hecate can only be a mistake, something that will never fit quite well among others of her own kind.

He sighs and take the baby. “Very well.”

“I like the name Clio,” the child goddess says before leaving him.

Thalia tells him it’s too small and to give it back. Urania is fascinated, and takes over most of the child’s care, which is likely for the best since Calliope is neck deep into a new epic, and would be cross if she needed to pull her attention from it to rear a child.

As Clio ages, she stays just as unsettling and strange. Hephaestus shows up around the time she starts breaking into Athena’s libraries, even though stunts like that get people worse than killed. “I don’t know why she gave her to me,” Apollo says as they watch the teenager devouring a stolen tome on the history of the Persian Empire. “Hecate raised you, I don’t understand why she didn’t want to raise her actual daughter.”

“You’re a better parent than she is,” he says thoughtfully. Apollo gives him an unimpressed look, but he says, “I’m serious. Your girls are turning out to be quite lovely – all of them.”

“Of course they are,” he says, nose in the air, but grins when Hephaestus elbows him the side.

By the time she’s an adult, Clio is easily one of the most accomplished scholars to ever exist. She and Athena regularly get into academic debates that last weeks, and scare off anyone from daring to come closer.

She stays strange, and too smart, and Apollo loves her utterly.

Apollo is lying on the beach when a large wave overtakes him and drags him into the sea. He struggles for the surface, but can’t seem to shake the waves, and is dragged to the sea floor. He’s a god, so he won’t suffocate, but he’s terrified when the water drags him down to Poseidon’s palace and deposits him in front of his wife. “Apollo,” she says, “I can see what your daughters will become.”

He has no idea what she’s talking about. “Excuse me?”

Amphitrite grabs his jaw and pulls him closer. He doesn’t dare resist. She looks into his eyes, then smirks. “The god of prophecy doesn’t know that which he has wrought. How … ironic.”

“Is it?” he wonders. He really hopes she doesn’t kill him.

“Quite,” she smirks, and with a flick of her wrist she’s naked before him. “I wish for one of your daughters to be mine as well. Lay with me.”

“Uh,” he says eloquently, because Amphitrite has never given her husband any children, he hadn’t even known she could. If he sleeps with her, Poseidon might kill him, regardless of how many people the god of the sea sleeps with that aren’t his wife. But if he refuses her, she might kill him, and it’s not like having sex with Amphitrite is any sort of hardship. She’s as gorgeous as she is terrifying. “Okay.”

He’s deposited back on the shore the next day, feeling oddly used.

If Poseidon has any opinions on Apollo knocking up his wife, he doesn’t voice them.

Amphitrite doesn’t foist the baby upon him as soon as she’s born. Instead years pass, and one day a dark skinned, amber eyed sea god shows up at his door. There’s a teenager at his side, who has Apollo’s coloring and Amphitrite’s bone structure, and hair that shimmers golden-green in sunlight. “Glaucus,” Apollo greets warily, “and who might this be?”

“I call her Erato,” Glaucus says, “I’ve raised her since birth. It’s time for her to join her sisters.”

Erato is not as terrifying as her mother. Instead there’s a sweetness about her that she must have gotten from Glaucus. She’s shy at first, and spends many days looking out into the sea. But his daughters are persistent, and soon she’s laughing and joining them. There’s something dreamy about her, and she loves love, writes romantic ballads and beautiful poems, so much so that Aphrodite commends her talent.

Erato is also the most like him in the area of her love life, meaning she leaves behind a constant trail of heartbroken men and women.

Calliope complains about the constant wailing around their home, and Clio proves she has some of her mother’s talent with magic when she casts an unplotable spell around their home so former lovers stop following Erato home. Of course, she forgets to tell both Apollo and her sisters about this, and it’s very confusing for everyone until Clio remembers to tell them where the house is.

His daughters’ home is a place of constant music, poetry, and literature. He thinks he’s starting to suspect what Amphitrite was talking about.

Not all hunts are easy things.

Apollo feels the moment his sister is wounded, the arrow through her abdomen as painful for him as it is for her. He’s in his chariot, and he can’t leave it, if he leaves his chariot unattended the sun will consume it, and then consume the earth. “Calliope!” he snaps, and his eldest daughter appears by his side.

“Father?” she asks, huddling into him and away from the sun. “What’s going on?”

“Artemis is hurt, I have to help,” he says urgently, and places the reins into her hands. “You can do this.”

She pales, but steps forward, keeping a white knuckled grip on the chariot. “Go.”

He kisses his forehead, and goes to his sister. Her huntresses have set up an honor guard around her, defending and dying as cruel faced giants draws closer. “ARES!” he screams, and he doesn’t know what they’re fighting for, what this war is about, but it doesn’t matter. “WE NEED YOU!”

The god of war appears, and he’s clearly come from some other battle, covered in mud and other worse things. He throws himself into the battle, but it’s not until they gain more aid that the tides turn in their favor.

He first sees Erato on the field, water swirling around her as she slices through them all, the power of her mother making her golden eyes glow. Clio is at her back, the glittering magic Hecate passed on to her filling her hands.

Thalia has long curved knives flying from her fingers, and all who face her don’t figure out they’re dead until she’s already left them behind. Urania is letting loose arrows against the giants and though she’s not his by blood, not a goddess by birth, none would know it watching each of her arrows hit true and take down another enemy.

Terpsichore uses her honed abilities of dance differently here on the battlefield, twirling and ducking around enemies with her sword flashing as it slices through all who go against her. Celestial fire licks up the sword, and the daughter of Hestia and Apollo is laughing as she dances through the battlefield.

He wants to yell at them, to tell them to get off the battlefield, to get to safety. But it is thanks to them that the fight is being won, so he says nothing.

Ares looks around, grimaces, and catches Apollo’s eye before he disappears from the battle. They must be invoking his name. Apollo is only grateful he managed to stay as long as he did.

The giants are all dead by the time Apollo manages to make it to his sister’s side. She’s pale and covered in blood, her huntresses seated around her and trying to stop the bleeding. “What were you thinking?” Apollo demands, grabbing her hand and pushing her hair from her forehead. Terpsichore comes forward and lays her burning sword against the wound, sealing and cauterizing it at once. Both Apollo and Artemis scream

“They – took – a – child,” she pants, leaning in for his touch, for his comfort, and he has never been able to deny her anything. He pulls her up, biting back a scream at the pain that rips through them both, and props her up against his chest. “A – nymph’s child. Zeus’s child. They killed – it’s mother. That – that sort of injustice will – will not be – tolerated.” She lays her head back against his shoulder, tears leaking from the corner of her eyes, and Apollo almost wishes the battle were not over, because he wants to murder something.

“I’ll get it,” Erato says, and a moment later she returns with a toddler in her arms. She has the copper skin of Zeus, and pale blonde hair. “What do we do now? Zeus does not care for his children.”

“I think it’s time you became a big sister,” Thalia says, and Erato looks stricken. “Right Dad?”

He looks to his sister, who nods. “I can think of no better place for her. She cannot stay with me – a hunting party is not place for children.”

“Very well,” he sighs. “Does she have a name?”

The girl attempts to hide behind Erato’s hair, then says, “I am Euterpe.”

“Welcome, Euterpe,” he says.

It’s then that the sun finally sets, and Calliope stumbles into existence next to them. She’s covered in deep, bleeding burns, but it’s not as bad he feared it would be. She’s certainly faired better at her first time driving the chariot than he had. “What’s happening? Is everything all right?”

“We have a new sister,” Thalia says brightly, even as Clio rushes forward to tend to her burns.

Euterpe, thankfully, seems to inherit none of Zeus’s madness. She has a singing voice like a clear bell, and soon surpasses even Calliope’s talent with the lyre.

He knows, technically, that Euterpe is his half-sister. But it takes him no time at all to regard her as his daughter, to love her with same simple ferocity as he loves her sisters.

~

For a while, all is well, is quiet. His daughters are all fully grown, accomplished and beautiful.

Then Demeter corners him when he’s walking through quiet city and pins him against an alley wall. “If Amphitrite thinks she can one up me over this,” the goddess hisses, “she’s sorely mistaken.”

At least this time he knows what’s going on when Demeter starts pulling her dress off. “You can’t raise the child,” he says. He’s not adverse to laying with Demeter, although at this rate it looks like there will be less laying and more standing against a rough alley wall. But Demeter only knows how to love in a way that crushes all it touches. He won’t let her do that to his child.

“Fine,” she snaps, “Now get moving.”

He’s vaguely terrified the whole time, and it mostly reminds him of his month with Hecate. He’s left alone and naked in the alleyway an hour later.

Nine months later, a baby is delivered to his door by a nervous wood nymph. His daughter still has the squashed appearance of a freshly born baby. “She didn’t waste any time,” he comments, settling her into the crook of his arms. “Does she have a name?”

“Polyhymnia, my lord,” the wood nymph says, then bows before fleeing.

He brings her to the home where all his daughters live.

She grows, and she’s the spitting image of Demeter, of Persephone back when she answered to the name Kore. Her voice is lower than Euterpe’s, but just as pretty and when they sing together it’s the most beautiful sound he’s ever heard. She’s quiet, and thoughtful, her big brown eyes watching all around her with a measured stare.

Polyhymnia asks after her mother, something none of the others had done, and Apollo doesn’t know what to say. The truth is too callous, but he can’t bear to lie to her. Instead he begs an audience with Persephone, and says, “Your sister asks after the mother you share. I don’t know what to tell her.”

Persephone has no advice to offer, but she starts spending some of her time outside of the underworld with Polyhymnia. It is enough, and her questions stop, and Apollo tries not to feel guilty that he never really answered them.

~

Cassandra is unlike any woman he’s ever met, unlike any person he’s ever met, and the flames of love and passion burn inside him in a way they haven’t since his Hyacinth died.

She’s bull headed and irritating, and whenever he tries to complain about it Artemis rolls her eyes and his daughters laugh at him. He supposes he’s not doing a very good job hiding that he’s in love with her. Not even from her, because at one point she crossly asks if he’s ever planning to do anything with her, or if she should accept the offer from the butcher’s son.

They don’t leave her house for five days.

She is curious, hungry for knowledge, hungrier for it then she is of him. She wants to know impossible things, wants to be an impossible thing, and so Apollo laughs and takes her hand and says, “I will make you a bargain. I will give you the gift of prophecy, if you will grant me the gift of your hand.”

He’s never take a bride before. He hasn’t wanted to.

Cassandra is screaming and laughing, and she throws her arms around his neck and kisses him until she’s breathless. He takes it as a yes.

That’s when everything goes horribly, incredibly wrong.

It’s too much, all the horror she sees is too much, and Apollo tries to tell her to focus on the good, to see the happiness of the future. But she can’t, gets too caught up in too many wars, and she wastes away in front of his eyes even as her stomach swells.

He tries to take back the gift, tries to save her, but he can’t. It cannot be ungiven, and his headstrong, vivacious lover fades before his eyes. He only manages to alter it, to change it so no one believes the horrible things she cries to prevent the horror people feel when she looks at them and screams the way that they’ll die.

Artemis helps deliver their child, but halfway through her face goes pinched and worried, and Apollo knows that Cassandra won’t make it.

“I’m sorry,” he weeps, kissing her gaunt face, feeling the sharpness of her cheekbones under his lips, “I’m so sorry, I didn’t know this would happen. I didn’t want this to happen.”

She looks at him with glassy eyes, barely reacts when Artemis places their child on her chest. There’s a growing pool of blood under her, but she can’t be saved, she will die, here, now.

Apollo wonders if she saw this coming.

She blinks, and meets his gaze with a sharpness and awareness he hasn’t seen for a long time. “She is your last daughter,” Cassandra says, “Melpomene is the last daughter you will have.”

He kisses her, his last chance to do so.

She’s dead before his lips leaves hers.

Apollo tries to flee, to run from the claws tearing apart his heart, but Artemis doesn’t let him. She yanks him back and pushes Melpomene into his arms. “You can’t leave,” she says harshly, “She needs you. Your daughter needs you. You’re not allowed to run.”

He crumples, leaning his head onto his sister’s shoulder as he sobs, and her calloused hand grasps the back of his neck. Melpomene is stuck between them, soft and warm and alive.

Time passes.

Melpomene is Thalia’s other half, her best friend, and they do everything together. Her dark hair is a mass of unruly curls just like her mother, her laughter is just like her mother’s.

She, like her sisters, is his pride and his joy.

GoT S07E03 Thoughts

And here we go again.

As always, these are my rambling nonsensical thoughts on the episode, but disclaimer, my stream lagged so i missed maybe 30 seconds to maybe a minute of the episode. Let’s begin.

Jon and Tyrion’s conversations had to be some of my favourite scenes from this episode. That shared smile between them when Jon first lands on Dragonstone and they greet each other was so pure. There is potential for a great friendship between them. They both have an understanding for each other that they don’t share with anyone else. Jon as a bastard and Tyrion as a dwarf. This was evident in earlier seasons too, but more so now that they have both found their places in the world. They respect each other, but they’re fighting for very different causes (and for different reasons) and I wonder if this fledgling friendship will become a point of contention for them later in the story.

Anyway, I wouldn’t be me if I didn’t say that one of my favourite scenes had to be Tyrion and Jon’s conversation about Sansa. What I loved about this scene was although it was fleeting, it still gave us Jonsa feels (if you’re inclined to read the scene this way anyhow).

When Tyrion says, “does she miss me terribly?” Jon is very quiet and they let that silence play on long enough for it to be a significant marker in a conversation. Jon didn’t want to talk about it. It wasn’t an awkward silence; it was absolutely an annoyed, aggravated silence. And then what’s great is that Tyrion immediately went on the defensive and says that the marriage was never consummated.

It’s a strange thing to say, especially when they were so friendly earlier. Wouldn’t it be safe to assume that if Jon had any suspicions that Tyrion had hurt/touched Sansa against her will that exchange would’ve gone very differently? There was clearly no need to mention it at all, but yet Tyrion did and Jon’s response was “I didn’t ask” in a clearly annoyed tone that suggested if this topic didn’t end soon someone was going to get choked out. Either Jon really hates the thought of Sansa with another man he turned into grumpy kitten Jon or he doesn’t want to think about his sister having sex at all. But bear with me here, if it’s the latter, why have this dialogue at all? There’s no narrative reasoning for this whatsoever unless Jonsa is a real possibility in the future and we’re supposed to continue to think about Jon, Sansa and ‘sex’ in the same line of thought.

Okay, okay, admittedly my shipping goggles are on, but I still maintain the fact that it’s a weird piece of dialogue to have. If all they wanted to do was establish Sansa as a real political player, they could’ve cut that entire 2-3 lines out and just went straight into:

“She’s smarter than she lets on.”

“She’s starting to let on.”

And now that we’re onto the topic, I absolutely believe the mention of Sansa’s intelligence here serves two purposes. The first is to establish Sansa as a real political player here. She’s been underestimated by everyone in Westeros, but she’s far smarter than anyone gives her credit for (yes, even Jon).

In fact, jumping straight to Winterfell, you are given a whole scene of Sansa demonstrating that intelligence – not only in keeping everyone fed, but in keeping the soldiers protected. She understands what it takes to rule. But what I love about this sequence of scenes is Littlefinger praising her then going on to claim to know Cersei better than everyone and Sansa just shutting him down, saying she knows her better. Once again, we’re being forced to consider all that Sansa’s learned from Cersei. She just didn’t learn how to play the game but she learned Cersei herself. If anyone can outplay Cersei, we’re being led to believe it’s Sansa.

Why I think this is important is how this episode also demonstrated that Cersei is once again one of the smartest and most devious rulers in Westeros. She completely outmaneuvered Tyrion, Daenerys and Olenna. People think her ‘madness’ from losing her children will make her weaker, but she’s still as shrewd as ever. She is very much Tywin’s daughter, but she’s much more ruthless. Tyrion may be smart, but thus far? He’s not as smart as his sister.

But who is?

Well, there’s a ‘queen’ in the North who is, and the more I think about it, the more I think this quote is actually referring to Sansa:

“Aye. Queen you shall be… until there comes another, younger and more beautiful, to cast you down and take all that you hold dear.”

Because Cersei is right. Dany is a revolutionary, not a ruler. She can conquer and free slaves, but she doesn’t know how to rule. She’s not nearly as intelligent as Cersei in playing the Westerosi game, but Sansa is. She’s learned from the very best after all. Whether I’m wrong or right, I am convinced Sansa’s role in this war will be far greater than just ruling Winterfell in Jon’s stead.

Its second purpose is basically to reaffirm Jon’s faith and trust in Sansa and her judgement. But what I found interesting is the way he says it is almost in an exasperated way, like he knows she is and she continues to “twist him in a way no one else can” because she’s too smart for her own good. But alas, the shipping goggles are on, so take that what you will.

Now onto the big anticipated meeting. Honestly, I enjoyed Jon and Dany’s interactions. The juxtaposition of them as individuals and rulers were pronounced in the last episode, but they were even more glaringly so in this one. While Dany continues to talk about her rightful place and her indignation that he refuses to acknowledge what is hers, Jon continues to fight for his people and the war up North. I mean that’s just the thing, isn’t it? Every mention of Dany being this benevolent ruler who cares about the people doesn’t actually come from Dany. She doesn’t actually say she wants to save the people of Westeros. It’s always someone else because maybe, just maybe it’s not really her true purpose here in Westeros. Yes, I don’t believe she would be indifferent to the loss of innocent lives, but if it was the only way to get her to that throne, wouldn’t you think she’d do it? Wouldn’t Dany say ‘to hell with all of it’ and fly her dragons and burn everything in sight for that throne? If it was her only option, she would choose herself over the people.

Hell, she even says it. After her speech about all she’s overcome, she says the only way she’s endured any of that was because of her faith in herself. While it’s a good speech if you take out the context, Dany’s survived and persevered this long because of her unwavering belief in her birthright, which was to rule on the Iron Throne. Everything else comes second to that. And I refuse to believe that the ultimate hero of the story is someone who believes themselves a hero and entitled to a kingdom.

Whereas Jon was thrust into his position. He would choose the people over himself and that difference was emphasised by this quote they just had to repeat twice:

“…took a knife in the heart for his people.”

Also, the fact that Jon cut Davos off before he could blab about Jon’s resurrection and Dany’s fixation on this feels highly foreboding. It’s definitely going to come back up, but in what way, I don’t know.

Objectively speaking, I could see how Jon3rys could be hinted in this episode, as Jon and Dany come to understand each other, but personally, I believe it’s a tentative alliance at best that borders on an impasse rather than actual understanding. Right now, they can work because Dany has bigger fish to fry and Jon needs dragonglass. But when their objectives clash? What then? You could even see this opposition highlighted in the way they were filmed on that cliff. They’re standing together yet they’re facing opposite directions. They spend far more of that scene looking away from one another than looking eye to eye. Having their first one-on-one interaction being filmed in the light is also quite telling. The sun can be a symbolic source of goodness, but it can also be an oppressive force. Actually, it made me think of this quote from Albert Camus’ The Stranger:

“The sky was already filled with light. The sun was beginning to bear down on the earth and it was getting hotter by the minute. I don’t know why we waited so long before getting under way. I was hot in my dark clothes […] it was inhuman and oppressive.“

Jon is a man of the North. His season is winter. I’ve said in previous metas that having Jon’s resurrection coincide with Winter’s arrival was symbolilc. Where usually in literature winter represents a time of stagnancy or even regression in the hero myth, for Jon, it represents rebirth and growth. Winter is a time for Starks. Having such sunlight bearing down on them in this scene (looking more like summer than winter) and Jon still wearing his furs seems to forewarn perhaps bad consequences with this alliance.

For my Jonsa shippers, this is the exact opposite in how Jon and Sansa’s scenes are shot. They’re almost always in dimly lit areas or surrounded by candlelight, and snow is usually falling. Their reunion also coincided with Winter’s coming, so don’t despair if you are over Jon3rys meeting.

Speaking of how scenes are shot, Sansa and Bran’s reunion couldn’t be more of a stark (ha ha) difference to Jon and Sansa’s. Yes, he was never going to run towards her, but she didn’t nuzzle him. I’ve always said the choice of having Sansa nuzzle Jon’s cheek was a bizarre one. It’s just odd. People don’t nuzzle their family members. But maybe she wasn’t in the nuzzling mood, fine. Go to the godswood scene though and there just seems to be such a distance between Sansa and Bran. I think that’s partially Bran being the Three-Eyed Raven as well because the distance was also entirely about who he is now as well.

Anyway, Clearly in the books Bran’s importance and power is more obvious, so they had to demonstrate somehow that Bran as the Three-Eyed Raven can see everything. But why does he bring up Sansa’s wedding? If they wanted to show off his power, they could have him bring anything else up, so why her wedding? Why bring up Ramsay at all? Shouldn’t Bran know better than that? Especially to tell her she looks beautiful that day after already implicitly saying he knows what Ramsay did to her. It feels unnecessarily cruel for Bran who, while seemingly distant, does love her. It has to serve a purpose for them to write that in. Perhaps foreshadowing a future wedding in the cards for Sansa? Perhaps a fake one to LF? Or maybe something further down the line where it’ll be the opposite of everything she had with Ramsay. No godswood, no beautiful white dress, no snow falling, but with someone she loves and who loves her. I don’t know but I’m just speculating here.

Moving on to my favourite scene in the episode though: Cersei with Elaria. Honestly, Lena Heady is a phenomenal actress. Everyone is so focused on Cersei being this horrible evil villain, but you forget the real nuances to her character. When she asks Elaria why she killed Myrcella, it was delivered in such a vulnerable tone. You really, truly get a glimpse of the heartbroken, grieving mother who just tried to do her best for her children (whether that best was actually good or not), but then immediately after, you get the vindictive, cunning and formidable Cersei as she kisses Elaria’s daughter. It was amazing. Horrible but amazing.

Second favourite scene had to be Olenna’s. What is there to say? She is the Dowager Queen of Badass Bitchery and Snarky Comebacks. Give me a great, complex female villain any day! I wouldn’t even call Olenna a villain tbh. But what I mean is I would 150% take morally grey or morally corrupt female characters over your atypical one-dimensional girl-next-door ones any day, week or month.

Stray thoughts that I don’t have time/energy to write about:

Did anyone else get flirty vibes between Tyrion and Dany?

And does anyone think Jorah’s “perhaps our paths will cross again” sound entirely too foreboding for Sam?

Women In Young Adult Literature

This Wednesday we’re celebrating the social, economic, cultural and political achievements of women on International Women’s Day. I’d like to use that as an opportunity to talk about a few of my favorite female characters in Young Adult books. Careful if you haven’t read these books because of possible spoilers.

Cather Avery (Fangirl)

Cather Avery and her twin sister Wren are starting college and Wren has announced she wants to discover college on her own, leaving an introvert Cath hiding out in her dorm, writing fan fiction. I really liked that Fangirl was about Cath as a character at first and everything else second. Cath is shy and introvert but she’s also sure of who she is and isn’t ashamed of that.

Madeline Whittier (Everything Everything)

Madeline has a rare illness which prevents her from leaving her house, but Maddy is a happy teenage girl. She reads a lot, takes classes online, has a friend in the form of her nurse. Despite the fact that she was missing out on so much in her life, she keeps being optimistic. It is impossible not to like her. Of course, she was also moody and curious. This curiosity eventually leads her to uncover a secret that will change everything for her.

Glory O’Brien (Glory O’Brien’s History of the Future)

One evening Glory and her best friend mix up beer with the remains of a bat (that is as weird as it sounds). Next thing they know they can see people’s pasts and futures. Glory becomes obsessed with the second civil war and decided to write down every piece of information she gathers from seeing people’s futures. I loved how Glory handled seeing the future. She questioned everything in her past and present; her future, the strange hippie community across the street and especially her mother’s suicide and what I means for her.

Rose Hathaway (Vampire Academy-series)

Rose Hathaway is a Dhampir and thus fated to guard a Moroi. She’s determined to protect her best friend Lissa, a royal Moroi. Rose is sarcastic and insubordinate but she is fiercely loyal to Lissa. Over the course of the series Rose loves and loses Dimitri. The loss of him puts her friendship with Lissa and even her life at stake.

Mara Dyer (Mara Dyer trilogy and upcoming Shaw Confessions)

She has to power to kill people with a thought, but is she a villain? Throughout this trilogy, Mara tries to figure out what is happening with her. She means no harm, but around her people start dying under strange circumstances. She tries to understand her powers and is put in dangerous situations because of it. To get herself out of these situations she must use her power and questions who she is when she does.

Gwendolyn Shepard (Ruby Red)

Kerstin Gier gives us curious and funny heroines. These characteristics often put them in complicated situations. Take Gwendolyn, (Gwyneth in the US/UK editions) for example. She can travel through time but it isn’t nearly as fun as it sounds. She always taught her cousin would inherit the time travel gene, she isn’t ready to fulfill tasks that would take her across time. Yet, Gwendolyn uncovers the truth and stands her ground while taking on an ancient organization.

Shahrzad Al-Khayzuran (The Wrath and the Dawn)

She marries the Caliph, not to love him and be his bride, but to kill him. Khalid has had countless wives and has killed every one of them, including her best friend. But when Shahrzad finds out her husband is cursed she takes it upon herself to save him and their people. Shahrzad can come across as spoiled, but she also doesn’t take shit from anyone and doesn’t like to be told what to do.

Inej Ghafa & Nina Zenik (Six Of Crows)

Inej can climb the most impossible buildings. She grew up with loving parents but was separated from them and sold to a brothel. Her time there still causes her anxiety. Nina was a member of the second army in the Ravkan war. She’s a heartrender. Nina loves her power, she loves food and she loves Matthias, who is supposed to be her enemy, and she knows he loves her too. Nina is determined to show him Grisha aren’t evil like he has been told, to not only accept her but her kind as well. Inej and Nina are just as much a part of The Dregs as the boys and just as important for their mission.

Kestrel Trajan (The Winner’s trilogy)

As the general’s daughter Kestrel knows politics very well. She has always had a privileged life. When Valorians and Herrani’s go to war, Kestrel is put in a difficult position. Her people are in the wrong, but they are her people. Arin isn’t one of them. He’s her slave, the boy she’s in love with. She has to help his people. Kestrel is often put before terrible options but they are her only options and what do you choose when the outcome is bound to be horrible either way?

Verity (Code name Verity)

“Kiss me, Hardy. Kiss me, quick!” Well, if this book didn’t destroy me. Verity is captured by Nazi’s and tortured until she agrees to write down everything she knows - everything. The first half of the book is her confession, the second half is told from her best friend’s POV. Maddie and Verity are major friendship goals. Their story was so inspiring and completely heartbreaking at the same time.

Bianca (The DUFF)

The Designated Ugly Fat Friend is what Robbie calls Bianca, explaining that it isn’t a bad thing, but it’s a fact. Bianca tries to not let this bother her, but it does. She is the DUFF. Despite the fact that he hates Robbie the two of them start a friends-with-benefits relation, except for the “friends” part because they hate each other. The book discusses many others topics, such as friendship, neglect, alcoholism and divorce. Bianca uses the words ‘slut’ and ‘whore’ a lot throughout the book. In the end, she comes to a nice conclusion about these labels and ultimately it’s a good message. I would also recommend Kody’s other YA novels.

Linh Cinder (Cinder)

So far I’ve only read the first book in the Lunar Chronicles series, but it was enough to see that Cinder is bad-ass. She’s funny and sassy and the best mechanic in New Beijing. Instead of going to the Prince’ ball she’d rather use that opportunity to elope from her evil guardian. Things don’t go as planned when it’s discovered that Cinder is a Lunar, that she has powers, and that if the Lunar queen finds out, she will take Cinder to Luna and most likely kill her.

Things I loved about The Dark Prophecy:

Once again, it starts with Apollo hating his humanity, something that I believe won’t change in some time, he was born a god, after all. Though I fervently believe that he is learning from his time as a mortal.

Through the whole book, we are able to read some of his most selfish comments, which is to be expected, since he had always been portrayed as a selfish, self-centered god. However, we’re able to see his selfless and kind side, too.

Example:

From:

“…It went against the very nature of being Apollo. I should always be the most obvious, brilliant source of light in the world. If you had to search for me, something was wrong.”

And: “I tried to contain my bitterness. Soldiers and sailors were all very well, but if your city’s biggest monument is not Apollo, I’m sorry, you’re doing something wrong.”

To:

“You rescued me.” Then I added two words that never came easily to a god: “Thank you.”

And

“When I was a god, I would’ve been delighted to leave the mortal heroes to fend for themselves. I would’ve made popcorn and watched the bloodbath from a distance on Mount Olympus, or simply caught the highlight reel later. But as Lester, I felt obligated to defend these people….I wanted to be here for them.”

And:

“Their eyes were so full of concern- concern for me- that I had to swallow back a lump in my throat. Six weeks we had been traveling together. Most of that time, I had fervently wished I could be anywhere else, with anyone else. But with the exception of my sister, had I ever shared so many experiences with anyone? I realized, gods help me, that I was going to miss these two.”

These are some of the parts I loved the most about the book:

  • The Waystation. It’s nice to know of more demigod safe-spaces, more so when they’re under the loving care of Emmie and Josephine:

We’ve saved a lot of demigods and other outcasts- raised them at the Waystation, let them go to school and have a more or less normal childhood, then sent them out into the world as adults with the skills they needed to survive.”

It’s different from both Camp Half-Blood and Camp Jupiter, where, no matter how much they protect you and care for you, it could never be as normal and comforting as being raised in a “normal” loving environment.

  • The relationship between Apollo and Calypso: They hate each other, that much is perfectly clear…

“Lo!” I said. “I arrived at Camp Half-Blood as Lester Papadopoulos!”

“A pathetic mortal!” Calypso chorused. “Most worthless of teens!”

“-…her evil stepfather had poisoned her mind!”

“Poison!” Calypso cried. “Like the breath of Lester Papadopoulos, most worthless of teens!”

“Lo!” I shouted. “From the Oracle of Dodona we received a prophecy- a limerick most terrible!”

“Terrible!” Calypso chorused. “Like the skills of Lester, most worthless of teens!”

Though as the chapters progress, it appears that it’s more of a mutual disagreement than actual hatred.  Apollo realizes how unfair their punishment on her was, and starts to feel like his own treatment towards her is unfair:

“Just yesterday, I had toyed with the idea of leaving Calypso behind to the blemmyae when she was wounded. I’d like to say that it wasn’t a serious thought, but it had been, however briefly. Now Calypso refused to leave Meg, whom she barely knew. It was almost enough to make me question whether I was a good person…”

And, in the end, they become friends. They still have much path to cover and much to discuss, but I believe they’re on good terms now.

  • Calypso and Leo:

One of the many topics vastly discussed after Blood of Olympus was how short and forced their relationship seemed. However, in The Dark Prophecy, we caught a glimpse of the reality they’re living on:

They’re trying to discover who they are together, as a couple and as friends. We see their multiple fights and their disagreements, and I believe it’s a very good thing! They’re exploring the possibilities of their relationship!

We see Calypso missing her island, we see her missing her powers, but most than anything else, we can see that Calypso and Leo truly love one another, and that they’re trying. It feels real, their problems, which only makes it better. It was to be expected that they’d be fighting and having problems, since they hadn’t talked much back on her island before he was forced to leave. They’re testing the waters, as Calypso explained.

They’re trying to build a good future for each other, they’re even going to enter school together. I like how their relationship improved, I like that Rick portrayed and fixed the mess that was their relationship by the end of BoO.

I also loved that Leo keeps calling her mamacita, and that Leo’s full name is actually Leonidas

  • In general, everything about Emmie and Josephine was pure perfection.

They were hunters of Artemis, hunters who fell in love with one another and decided to choose each other over immortality. Their love was beautifully portrayed, and the fact that they adopted a daughter was even more precious for me and for everyone in the LGBT community.

I like that, on a similar topic, we had more explanation about the Hunters of Artemis and their rules:

“All romance is off-limits. My sister is quite unreasonable in that regard. The mission of the Hunters is to live without romantic distractions of any kind.”

It makes more sense that the Hunters only being prohibited the company of men, as was stated by the Titan’s Curse. I like that Rick fixed that, too.

AND ARTEMIS BEING COMPASSIONATE AND LETTING THEM LEAVE HER GROUP WITHOUT PUNISHING THEM, GODS BLESS HER SOUL.

Also, Zeus forbidding Artemis from interfering with Apollo makes me so angry, but I didn’t expect anything less than that coming from him. It was good, though, that Artemis sent her Hunters to help Apollo discretely, just like when Apollo helped Percy and co. with rescuing Artemis and Annabeth.

  • Apollo being thirsty as fuck:

Apollo having the hots for Tall, Dark & Handsome Jamie.

Apollo being a fluttering mess when talking to him, then feeling away as soon as he heard Jamie had a girlfriend.

Apollo canonically having fantasies involving Thalia: “Thalia Grace climbed up behind me on the elephant- which fulfilled a daydream I’d once had about the pretty Hunter, though I hadn’t imagined it happening quite this way.”

Apollo canonically doing all sort of stuff to get Britomartis’ attention. To get a “kiss” and a “cute date” from her. (We all know that he wanted more than just a date and a kiss, but alas, this is a “children’s book”

  • Apollo and Commodus:

I’m aware that Commodus is evil, and I don’t like him as a character, but honestly, his relationship with Apollo killed me unlike any other relationship ever had. More specially, this:

“Overhead, a white silk canopy billowed in the gentle breeze. Inn one corner, a musician sat discretely serenading us with his lyre. Under our feet spread the finest rugs from the eastern provinces. Between our two couches, a table was spread with an afternoon snack of roast boar, pheasant, salmon, and fruit spilling from gold solid cornucopia.

I was amusing myself by throwing grapes at Commodus’ mouth. Of course, I never missed unless I wanted to, but it was fun to watch the fruit bounce off Commodus’ nose.

“You are terrible,” He teased me.

And you are perfect, I thought, but merely smiled.”

And:

“I didn’t mean to laugh at the expense of his distant wife, but part of me was pleased when he talked badly about her. I wanted all his attention for myself.”

And, of course:

“Commodus looked at me, panic in his eyes.

“Go,” I said, as calmly as I could, forcing down my misgivings. “You will always have my blessings. You will do fine.”

But I already suspected what would happen: the young man I knew and loved was about to be consumed by the emperor he would become.

He rose and kissed me one last time. Then he left the tent- walking, as Romans would say, into the mouth of the wolf.

“Apollo,” Calypso nudged my arm.

“Don’t go!” I pleaded. Then my past life burned away. “

Never forget this hear-wrenching part:

“As I often did for him after our workout sessions, I filled his great marble bath with streaming rose-scented water. I helped him out of his soiled tunic and eased him into the tub. For a moment, he relaxed and closed his eyes.

I recalled how he looked sleeping besides me when we were teens. I remembered his easy laugh as we raced through the woods, and the way his face scrunched up adorably when I bounced grapes off his nose.

I sponged away the spittle and blood from his beard. I gently washed his face. Then I closed my hands around his neck. “I’m sorry.”

I pushed his head underwater and began to squeeze. Commodus was strong. Even in his weakened state, he thrashed and fought. In had to channel my godly might to keep him submerged, and, in doing so, I must’ve revealed my true nature to him.

He went still, his blue eyes wide with surprise and betrayal. He could not speak, but he mouthed the words: You. Blessed. Me.

The accusation forced a sob from my throat. The day his father died, I had promised Commodus: You will always have my blessings, Now I was ending his reign. I was interfering in mortal affairs- not just to save lives, or to save Rome, but because I could not stand to see my beautiful Commodus die by anyone else’s hands.

I hunched over him, crying, my hands around his throat, until the bathwater cooled.

Britomartis was wrong. I didn’t fear water. I simply couldn’t look at the surface of any pool without imagining Commodus’ face, stung with betrayal, staring up at me.”

Rick Riordan has a talent of portraying gods and their actions unlike anyone else.

Apollo loved Commodus, he loved him deeply and wholeheartedly, but he couldn’t see anyone else killing his beloved Commodus. He killed him, for he could not stand the way the young man he loved had destroyed himself, turning into a murderous, evil emperor.

For me, Apollo has always been a complex god.

He said so himself in the first book, when he called his arrogance a pretense, when he mentioned he was a guilt-ridden, miserable god. He has never been good at love, for some reason, all of his lovers end tragically in one way or another, some by his own hand (Cassandra, Commodus, etc). It weighs him down more than he admitted when he was a god. As a mortal, he is more connected to his emotions, and is unable to put his usual facade of coolness and of arrogance.

Everything he has done, every sin he has committed, weighs him down:

“I imagined Trophonius’ head transposed on his body- my son’s agonized voice crying to the heavens, Take me instead! Save him, Father, please!

This blended with the face of Commodus, staring at me, wounded and betrayed as his carotid pulse hammered against my hands. You. Blessed. Me.

I sobbed and hugged the commode- the only thing that wasn’t spinning. Was there anyone I hadn’t betrayed and disappointed? Any relationship I hadn’t destroyed?

  • And, since we’re talking about Apollo and his change, I’d like to mention his relationship with Meg.

In the beginning, he could not stand her. Then by the end of the first book, he cared for her. Now, on this second book, the feeling grows and morphs into something so profound and so beautiful that I do not have words for it.

“No! She was- she was trying to protect me.” I choked on the words. “She is my friend. Take me instead!”

And also:

“She is precious to you,” Said the Oracle. “Would you give your life in exchange for hers?”

I had trouble processing that question. Give up my life? At any point in my four thousand years of existence, my answer would’ve been an emphatic No! Are you crazy? One should never give up on one’s life. One’s life is important! The whole point of my quests in the mortal world, finding and securing all these ancient Oracles, was to regain immorality so I wouldn’t have to ponder such awful questions!

And yet… I thought of Emmie and Josephine renouncing immortality for each other. I thought of Calypso giving up her home, her powers, and eternal life for a chance to roam the world, experience love, and possibly enjoy the wonders of high school in Indiana.

“Yes,” I found myself saying. “Yes, I would die for Meg McCaffrey.”

And lastly but not least important:

When Apollo shared Meg’s curse, slipping into her mind and trying to save her: “I would share this burden with her, even if it kills me.”

What saved us what a simultaneous thought: Meg/Apollo needs me.

There we had Apollo, someone that, supposedly, only cared about himself, risking his life, his human life, to save his little but beloved friend from madness and darkness.

It’s a beautiful moment, more so for those of us that adore Apollo since before the PJO books. It’s a beautiful character development from the fuckboy we saw in Titan’s Curse; it’s a beautiful character development from the god that we met in the first TOA book, the god that could only feel annoyance towards Meg.

“Let the girl go,” I whimpered through the pain. “Kill me and let her go.”

I surprised myself. These were not the last words I had planned. In the event of my death, I’d been hoping to have time to compose a ballad of my glorious deeds- a very long ballad. Yet here I was, at the end of my life, pleading not for myself, but for Meg McCaffrey.”

  • The mention of other gods through the book:

Apparently, gods have a weekly game night in Mount Olympus where Athena loves to gloat about her Scrabble scores.

AND THIS SAVAGE LINES: (AKA: my cute, dorky ex-god being dorky as fuck)

“Ever since my famous battle with Python, I’ve had a phobia of scaly reptilian creatures. (Especially if you include my stepmother, Hera. BOOM!)

“I’ve always found spiders fascinating creatures, despite what Athena thinks. If you ask me, she’s just jealous of their beautiful faces. BOOM!”

This important, yet short part:

Leto knelt at Zeus’ side, her hands clasped in prayer. Her bronze arms glowed against her white sundress. Her long golden hair zigzagged down her back in an elaborate ladder weave.

“Please, my lord!” She implored. “He is your son. He has learned his lesson!”

“Not yet,” Zeus rumbled. “His real test is yet to come.”

I laughed and waved. “Hi, mom! Hi, dad!”

There we have a glimpse of Leto being concerned over Apollo’s fate and we see that she cares. Zeus is, as always, being shady as fuck, and Apollo is super cute while hallucinating and being under the effect of the waters of Mnemosyne and Lethe.

  • Apollo realizes how hard some demigods have it:

From:

“I’m new to these heroic-quest business. Shouldn’t there be a reward at the end? Not just more deadly quests?”

“Nope,” Leo said. “This is pretty standard.”

My sweet, innocent Lester seems to forget that when he was Apollo, as a god, he never cared much for the quests he made demigods go through.

“I wondered if demigods ever felt the need to restrain themselves when facing ungrateful gods like this. No. Surely not. I was special and different. And I deserved better treatment.”

Had Percy Jackson been there, he would’ve written a gigantic thesis statement with a power-point presentation about how wrong Apollo was.

Also, this part:

“I knelt next to him- a boy of about sixteen, my mortal age. I felt no pulse. I didn’t know whose side he had fought on, but that didn’t matter. Either way, his death had gone to waste. I had begun to think that perhaps demigod lives were not as disposable as we gods liked to believe.”

Finally, at the moment of war, Apollo realizes how easy it is for a mortal to die. And most times, demigods die because of the gods.

  • The part where they find out Georgina might be Apollo’s daughter:

The whole scene, though the most painful part was when Emmie asked if it was payback for having renounced to his gift of immortality:

“I hadn’t known I could feel any worse, until I did. I really hate that about the mortal heart. It seems to have an infinite capacity of getting heavier.

“Dear Emmie,” I said. “I would never. Even on my worse days, when I’m destroying nations with plague arrows or putting together set lists for Kidz Bop compilations, I would never take revenge in such a way…”

That shows that he was a good god, even if he murdered and punished people, he had some kind of morality. He knew where his boundaries went: like when he mentioned that he flirted with the Hunters, but that he would never dare to go any further than that.

Had it been Zeus, he would’ve raped them already; and canonically, on mythology, I’ve never read about any case of Apollo raping anyone.

  • Also, I really liked that Rick added certain parts that showed that our actions, as mortals, are what define us and that, once we take one wrong decision, we cannot pray for better things when it is us that fuck things up.

I’ve heard so many people complain that their prayers were never answered, that their God never helped them. They don’t seem to realize that God cannot help us if we don’t help ourselves first.

It’s shown here:

“Don’t blame me for you robbing the king’s treasury!” I snarled. “You are here because you messed up.”

“I prayed to you!”

“Well, perhaps you didn’t pray for the right thing at the right time!” I yelled. “Pray for wisdom before you do something stupid! Don’t pray for me to bail you out after you follow your worst instincts!”

Apollo’s son, Trophonius, made wrong choices all his life, and when it came back to him, he wanted his father to miraculously save him. It doesn’t work like that, God/gods cannot help if we try to make them fix our whole lives.

  • The way they temporarily defeated Commodus. (I found extremely pretty the way Apollo’s real form was revealed) (Finally we had an explanation as to why gods’ real forms are deadly to mortals: they’re pure light.)
  • The second chance Apollo gave Lityerses. “Everything alive deserves a chance to grow.
  • Lityerses sobbing when Emmie said he could be part of their family.
  • All the “lit” jokes. And the commode ones too.
  • “The two bumped fists as if they hadn’t spent the last few days talking about how much they wanted to kill each other. They would’ve made fine Olympian gods.”
  • Little Georgina’s words to Apollo. How he told her he was there for her if she wanted to talk. How he was concerned about her, even if he was not sure if she was his daughter.
  • You’ve built something good here, Hemithea.” I said. “Commodus could not destroy it. You’ll restore what you’ve lost. I envy you.”

Everywhere he goes, Apollo seems to crave home. Not Olympus. Home, as in: a place where he’d feel loved and safe. In the 1st book, he wanted to stay in Camp with his children, now there, he admits that he craved the lovely home, the safe environment that they created at the Waystation.

“It all felt so homey and cozy, I wanted to volunteer to wash dishes if it meant getting to stay another day.”

  • Apollo trying to fix what he did to Agamethus by offering to go to the Underworld once he became a god again, to ask Hades to send him to Elysium.
  • “Never underestimate the healing power of music.”
  • Lit staying in the Waystation.
  • Apollo mentioning that he believed in second chances, and that he could understand Lit since they had things in common- being attractive being one of those things.
  • Apollo’s talking arrow only speaking bad Shakespearean English.
  • Being productive. Urgh.Same, Apollo, same.
  • The whole choo-choo scene, I don’t now why but I really really loved that part.
  • The fact that WE MIGHT GET TO SEE REYNA, FRANK AND HAZEL ON THE NEXT BOOK.
  • GROVER UNDERWOOD IS FINALLY BACK. MY SON, MY BABY, MY FAVORITE ENCHILADA LOVER SATYR. HE WILL BE BACK.

I must’ve missed many points, but this was already very long. In general, I really loved The Dark Prophecy, and I recommend everyone to read it as soon as they can! It is honestly so, so good. As good as the first one, I cannot wait for The Burning Maze

It was nice of Sansa to say that she was almost done poking and prodding and adjusting your dress, even if you all knew that it was a lie. Sansa had and affinity for dressing you up, claiming that if she tried it with Arya, she would lose a finger. You couldn’t say that the idea was entirely off base.

The dress was lovely. It looked a bit delicate in comparison to the usual style that ladies favored in Winterfell.  It was somehow different and you’re the same as the dresses that you favored on an everyday basis. Although you had lived in Winterfell for most of your life, your mother and father had lived much farther south.

So, you tended to favor lighter dresses, made of silk and lace in a wide array of colors. Jon liked to tease you that you were the brightest thing to ever live in Winterfell. What you didn’t know is how much Robb silently agreed with him. The dress was white, with layers of gray peeking through towards the bottom. It was lovely, although you had no idea how Sansa had managed such a lovely effect in the short amount of time since she had asked you about making a dress.

“I may have been working on it for a little while before I asked if it was okay,” she said, picking it up off of the bed and motioning for you to change into it. “But I knew that you were going to say yes anyways.”

You laughed, she was right. You had a hard time telling people no, especially when they were doing something so nice for you. After all, the Starks were your family. And if they were willing to put the time in to help you, then there was no way that you were going to refuse. It did make your schedule feel a bit cramped at times, in between dagger lessons with Arya and the boys, knitting with Sansa and tea with Lady Stark, who was forever insisting that you call her Catelyn, there were never enough hours in the day, something you often fought about with Robb.

“Well then, put it on!” Sansa laughed, tossing you the dress and pulling out her needle and thread, claiming that there were a few alterations that needed to be made. Sansa worked in silence, adding a few stitches here and there. And somehow, when she was done, the dress looked even more spectacular. She had managed to somehow make it fit you like a glove at the top, yet have the perfect amount of sway and flow in the skirts.

“Thank you, Sansa,” you said, admiring the skirts in her mirror. If you hadn’t been so caught up in how nice it was for Sansa to make you this lovely dress, you might have noticed the smug look on her face as she admired you admiring her dress. And you might have noticed that you were wearing in the Stark family’s colors. “But I really think that I should go see if your mother needs help preparing-”

“I was downstairs with her all morning. While you were fretting over nothing, I was making sure that you didn’t have an excuse to run away.” She laughed, guiding you over to the chair that was set up in front of her mirror. “Now, you have to stay and let me do something with this.” She sighed, motioning to the braid that you wore every day. Sansa took your braid in her hands, making quick work of fanning it out across your shoulders, running a brush gently through the ends or your hair.

“I cannot understand why you never take the time to style your hair unless I force you to. You know that anyone would do anything for you.” Sansa rain her hands through your hair, twisting it one way and then another, attempting to choose a style for that evening.

“I would rather spend my time with other engagements. And I’m sure that every single person in this castle has at least five things that they need to be doing at any given time. And shockingly, none of them include helping me with my hair.” You laughed, raising an eyebrow at her in the mirror.

“And does one of those things include pretending that you aren’t in love with my brother? Or is that simply a given, considering it is something that you do every waking minute of every day?”

You felt yourself tense, your shoulders locking back into place and your teeth grinding against each other. Sansa, on the other hand, continued brushing your hair into place, humming a soft tune to herself. You wished that you had an appropriate comeback, but you were left to sit there, mouth agape, while Sansa fussed with your hair for longer than should have been possible.

You’d hoped that you would have a bit of time to yourself before the feast that evening, but Sansa had insisted that a bit of rouge had never hurt anyone. By the time that she decided you were ready, the both of you were late.

“A queen never arrives at her own party on time.” Sansa laughed as you hurried down the hall. You hated to be late, and it seemed that the only time you were more than a few seconds late to anything was when Sansa insisted on helping you get ready.

“Then it’s really too bad that I am not a queen.” you reminded her, withholding a glare.

She snorted at you in a very un Sansa-like way, simply brushing past you and breezing easily into the banquet. You, on the other hand, were not nearly as confident. You took a moment to steady yourself, a moment to catch your breath, before stepping into the banquet hall.

The noise and liveliness of the hall erupted around you, pulling you in. You glanced around, taking in the musicians and the dancers that took up most of the space in the large banquet hall. And as much as you didn’t want to admit it, you were elated to see Robb standing with Jon and Theon near the edge of the dance floor.

You gathered up your expansive skirts, making your way along the edge of the room to the boys.

“Well don’t you just look dashing in the Stark colors?” Jon teased you, gesturing for you to do a twirl.

You landed a punch on his arm, not hard enough to actually hurt him, but firm enough to tell him to shut his big mouth, paired with an expression that told him you were going to pretend to be cross with him for a while. “If you must know, your lovely sister made me this gown, and as usual I had no say about the colors. But, I’m sure that it is just coincidence.” You attempted to sound sincere, even though you knew what Sansa was most likely thinking when she was picking out the material.

You pretended to listen to the boys ramble on about one thing or another, but your eyes were scanning the room in search of Arya. You knew that she was not particularly fond of feasts, so you always made a point to seek her out and reassure her, even if it was only for a few minutes. After few moments of searching, you spotted her, slumped into a chair, looking like she would much rather be anywhere else but here.

You felt Robb’s hand rest on the small of your back, attempting to draw your attention away from the very important matter at hand. “Y/N, do you want to-”

“Maybe in a minute, Robb,” you said, already making your way over to Arya, not even bothering to look back towards the sound of Jon’s booming laughter.

“Arya!” you laughed, taking her hands in your own and pulling her out of the chair. “Won’t you come and dance with me?”

“You know that I have been skipping my lessons,” she mumbled, refusing to meet your eyes. Somehow, she was in a worse mood than usual.

“I never said that we were going to make our way through the most boring waltz in existence.” You were already halfway to the band, who looked almost as morose as Arya, which wasn’t surprising when you thought about the music that they were being forced to play. “If this is to be the mood for the entire evening, we are all going to die of boredom.”

You let go of Arya’s hands for a few moments to whisper your instructions to the band. They all seemed to perk up immediately, sitting up in their chairs, the light coming back into their eyes. The tune changed from the sullen one that you had grown accustomed to hearing, to one that was jubilant and full of life. Reclaiming Arya’s hands in your own, your spun her around, prancing around in ridiculous circles until a smile finally graced her lips, and then a small laugh bubbled through, and you knew that your work was done.

You gave her one last smile, twirling her in another circle before stumbling off of the dance floor. All of the spinning had made you a bit dizzy, and with all of the skirts that Sansa had swaddled you up in, you weren’t surprised that you had nearly tripped a few times before you had even made it away from the dancers.

Robb’s hand found the small of your back, guiding you away from the mass of bodies that had swarmed the dance floor. You would have been surprised, especially because you hadn’t thought that Robb was anywhere near you, but he had a habit of turning up when you needed someone.

“What was it that you wanted earlier?” You asked breathlessly, collapsing into the chair that he had guided you to.

“Do you remember when my mother was so angry at us for sneaking into these feasts that she made us attend all of those dreadful dancing lessons?” Robb asked, smiling at Arya dancing with Rickon among the masses.

“Of course I do,” you laughed, recalling the many afternoons you had spent with your slightly nasty dance master. “Your mother was so sure that we would never turn up to another ball again if we had to take those lessons, but you were at every single lesson.”

“Naturally, you were so excited, and there was no way that I was going to miss it when you tripped over your own two feet.”

“If I recall correctly, you were always responsible for catching me after I messed up a new step.” You lazily punched him in the shoulder, but the laughter died in your throat as Robb caught your fist and linked his hand with yours.

“And I wouldn’t have missed it for the world.”

It wasn’t the act of holding his hand in yours that caused your breathing to falter. You had been holding pinkies since you had met, so after that, what was a hand? It was the way that his eyes were staring into yours, unwavering. For the first time in a long time, you felt yourself blushing because of Robb Stark.

It wasn’t something that happened often, the two of you had grown up together, after all. Your mother had been best friends with Cat, and when they passed away, it was no question that you were going to stay with Ned and his family.

You had been quiet when you arrived at Winterfell for the first time. It had only been a day or two since your mother and father had moved on, taken from you suddenly by a terrible affliction. You were assured that your friends would all be waiting for you, but that wasn’t good enough. You wanted your parents.

And even though you constantly reminded Robb of that, he was there for you at every turn. Bringing you a flower he found near a spring, hoping to make you smile, or telling you a poorly thought out joke, just waiting for just a glimpse of the dimples he used to know so well. And as much as you wanted to give him a glimpse of your former self, you needed time. Somehow, even at such a young age, both of you understood. And you had remained solemn, until one afternoon, he heard a giggle echoing from her chambers.

Robb threw open the door to find you sifting through a drawer full of dried flowers, picking them up one by one and examining them. He marched into the room, demanding to know why you had been so sad before. You never had been able to give him an answer, simply handing him one of the flowers and telling him that you were sorry. You never had offered him an explanation for those first few weeks.

“Y/N?” Robb’s voice and both of his hands cupping yours somehow managing to effectively draw you back to reality. “Are you okay?” his voice was soft, almost as if he was afraid to scare you away. He should know better than that by now.

“I was thinking about when I first came to live with you, well everyone. And you worried yourself over making me feel welcome, and you were so confused when you found me with that drawer full of flowers.” You sounded dreamy, still thinking about the days when things felt easier.

“You never did tell me why you kept all of those flowers. Especially when they never made you smile in the first place.” He smiled down at your hands, where his thumb was stroking the back of your hand.

“Because I knew that they were going to make me happy eventually,” You met his eyes, hoping that he understood what you were trying to tell him. “And I was right, wasn’t I?” Robb looked like he was going to answer, but you were finished wasting time moping about when there was a party going on. “Let’s dance, Stark.”

And without another word, the two of you were out of your chairs and headed for the dance floor. The musicians had kept their promise, and the music was lively. You were pleased to see that Arya had dragged Sansa into a group of dancers, and it brought a smile to your face to see that everyone was happy, for the time being. It was rare to stumble upon a moment where someone wasn’t squabbling, and when you managed to find one, you most certainly weren’t going to take it for granted.

HUMO: You’re a feminist, you have already said that several times. Many young women do not like being associated with feminism, because in their eyes it is a movement that forbids them to wear heels.

Evelyne Brochu: Feminists are the reason that I can vote, and my main concern is not whether I should wear heels or not, but that I might soon lose that acquired right as a woman. That Donald Trump is completely disturbed. The first thing he did as president, was to abolish subsidies for abortion clinics. And isn’t it scary what humiliating statements the most powerful man in the world can make about women? Everybody says: “They are just words.” But words set the motion more often than you think. A man thinks much faster now, “If the most powerful man can say that, it is okay if I say it too.” While women previously where not given the same room as men to be angry, or different, or crazy, a man is admired for those things, “Look how strong he is and what strong opinions he has.” A woman would be called hysterical.

Women are constantly belittled. We are told how we should behave if we want to be loved. That’s my biggest concern. I could care less about those heels.

anonymous asked:

So how would aliens react finding out about mental issues like depression?

That’s actually a really interesting question!

One that I’ll have to quickly research before I write out this scenario.

Ahem.

Xylion was examining some books he found lying around Human Jenny’s cabin. Yes, he was technically stealing them from her, but he was very interested in what humans were like. Seeing as he had recently experienced the terrifying things known as Grand Theft Auto V, he had to find something redeemable.

Human Jenny had mentioned she was an Anthropologist, and when he questioned what that was, she said it was the study of humankind. He had to hold back his comment about how self-centered humans were if they had a job to study their own species.

So far, none of the textbooks revealed anything interesting. He saw some stuff about history, but chose to leave it alone. He had heard humans had a long history of wars and perils, so maybe that wasn’t the best one to look at.

The next one was all about the Human Brain. He flipped through it a bit, but found nothing of interest. Who would want to know how human brains work?

The last book he found was labeled ‘Mental Disorders’. He frowned. He knew mental meant mind, but disorders? Was something wrong with human minds?

He grabbed the book and opened it. However, before he could begin reading, he heard the voice. “And what do you think you’re doing?”

Xylion almost began to secrete mucus again. He turned around slowly to see Human Jenny. Her eyes were narrowed and her cheeks red with anger. Xylion felt his tentacles begin to quiver. “Ah, Human Jenny! You’re- uh- hello! How is your day?” He asked, dropping the book so he wouldn’t ruin it.

Human Jenny grimaced at the phlegm that began to cover his arms. “What are you doing in here, Xylion?” She asked, crossing her arms.

“I was simply looking at your books! I wanted to know more about humans.” Xylion saw no point in lying. His species was known for doing what was always best.

A grin spread across her face. “You could’ve just said so! I know all about humans! Not only am I one, but it’s my job to study them! Now, what do you need to know?”

Xylion was shocked at her sudden change in demeanor, but he took it as a pleasing from Xalzor, the primordial god from his planet. Xylion looked down at the book he had been interested in. “What are ‘Mental Disorders’?”

Human Jenny’s smile seemed to droop slightly. She made some weird noise that sounded somewhat like a cough. “Well, Mental Disorders are problems that affect humans’ mental, physical, and/or emotional wellbeing.”

“So, they are weaker than the average human?”

“No! Not at all! Each issue affects a person in different ways, though they all have similar problems that come with them.” Human Jenny reasoned.

Xylion frowned. “Like what?”

Human Jenny picked up the book and flipped to a random page. “Here, this is one that affects a lot of people in this day and age: Depression.”

“‘Depression’? And what is that?”

“Well, have you ever experienced sadness, Xylion?”

He had to think about that. “Yes, one time when I was younger my brothers played a crude joke on me that ended up with me believing that I was useless. Of course it was all in good fun and I learned that eventually, but I was quite sad until then.”

“And how long did it take for you to realize that?”

“About a day or so.”

Human Jenny sighed. “Well, imagine that you are feeling that sadness for weeks and months on end. It’s never ending. Joy isn’t something that really seems real to you. It’s like the world around you is faded and everything just seems to bounce off of you. Even when you’re doing something that used to make you happy, all you feel is this sense of overwhelming sadness waiting right around you.”

Xylion blinked. “Is that…curable?”

“Yes. With pills, it can sometimes help. Not only that, but psychotherapy helps too. Most people get better.”

“And those that don’t?”

Human Jenny hesitated with her answer. She sighed, looking down. “Let’s just say they all have different ideas on what to do then.”

Xylion frowned at the cryptic message. He was confused. What did happen to them? What did they choose to do? Before he could ask anything else about it, human Jenny was already flipping through the pages.

“Schizophrenia.” She murmured, looking down at the page. It was filled with colorful images. Xylion frowned.

Human Jenny looked up at him. “Schizophrenia is a disorder that gives the victim auditory, visual, olfactory, an/or tactile hallucinations. People with this issue often see things, hear things, smell things, or feel things that aren’t there. The cause of this isn’t understood, and it often includes lifetime treatment.”

Xylion shook his head. “That’s horrible. How do people endure that?”

“Sometimes they do, sometimes they don’t.”

Great, more vague answers. Xylion was getting sick of it, honestly.

Human Jenny sighed as she opened up another page. “Let’s see…Anxiety.”

“But…most humans have this disorder! Human Isaac often talks about how anxious he is! Is that not the same thing?”

“Yes, all humans experience anxiety, but it’s when it starts interfering with our daily lives that it becomes something serious. One example of anxiety is the Panic Attack centered anxiety. These panic attacks can do different things, though some of the things that can occur during them are: muscle tension, poor concentration, fear or confusion, the inability to relax, etcetera.”

Xylion was shocked, yet again. “How do humans deal with this sort of thing?”

Human Jenny shuffled nervously before standing up. “Well, most people take pills to help them calm down and such.” Human Jenny began to rummage through a bin as she talked. “They take these pills to help keep them calm. Mainly because they fear dying in these situations, often feel discomfort, feel like they’re choking,” Human Jenny’s voice was fading now, “shortness of breath,” her breathing was getting raspy now, and Xylion was getting even more worried, “and others things.” She finished, coughing slightly.

He watched as she pulled out some orange container and opened it. Two white tablets fell into her palm and she pressed it against her mouth, letting the pills go in. He watched as she took her hand away and got a drink of water. As she swallowed the pills, she seemed to visibly relax. Xylion stood up. “Are you okay, Human Jenny?”

Her head hung slightly. “I’m alright. I just suffer from Anxiety, ya’ see? Sometimes when I talk about the different affects it has on us humans, I freak out. I’ll be fine, though.”

“Does anyone else aboard suffer from these disorders?”

Human Jenny nodded. “We’ve all had a problem sometime in our life. We aren’t exactly kids, you know?”

Xylion shuffled nervously. “What happened?”

“Well, Isaac has insomnia.”

“And what is that?”

Human Jenny sighed. “Well, insomnia is a sleeping disorder. It makes it so the person affected by it has trouble sleeping soundly at night. he has to take pills to help him fall asleep, otherwise he can’t sleep at night and won’t function as well in the mornings.”

Xylion looked down. He had never noticed this before. “And the others?”

“Well, Freddie’s been struggling with Depression ever since he lost his girlfriend in a shooting, and Mason has PTSD.”

“PTSD?”

“Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder. He was in combat back on earth and he saw a lot of death. He watched his friend’s die, and that’s not something you can easily bounce back from.”

Xylion looked down, sadness filling him. Just the knowledge that his fellow crewmembers went through this on a daily basis was saddening. He frowned. “How come you were all sent up here then?”

“Well, Isaac can take pills for his Insomnia and I can take pills for my Anxiety. Freddie also takes pills, and because I have a degree in Psychology I am able to be his therapist, which is the person that can help him through it. And Mason is mostly over his. He occasionally gets nightmares, but he’s mostly gotten over his PTSD. He’ll never be completely over it, but he can function without having an episode on a normal day-to-day basis. Sometimes it hits him, and it’s only happened once since we joined your crew.”

Xylion sighed. He gently put a tentacle on her shoulder and wrapped it around her, pulling her to him. “I’m so sorry you all have to deal with this. If I could help you, know I would.”

When human Jenny pulled back, her face was red. She nodded quickly. “Yeah, whatever you say, Xylion.”

Xylion smiled down at her. He realized something that day.

While they looked weak, humans were always fighting a war. They were always battling the inner problems. Even fi they looked fine, a human wasn’t always as happy as they seemed. He’d take that lesson to his grave.

So what’d you think?

I did my best to write this part, because it is a huge part of our society. Anyways, if you want to learn more about different mental issues, then click here. I did my best looking up each one that I used and tried to portray it as closely as possible. Sorry if I didn’t do that good of a job.

Anyways, if you ever feel like you need some help with something, know I could be there to help you.

And I hope you enjoyed this, Anon! It took me a bit to write this and research it, but I think it was worth it!

It was especially long because my dad kept through those little poppers at my brother and my sister keeps showing me those anime crack videos, but who cares, I’ve written in worse environments, I think.

And goodbye! See you in the next Humans are Weird post.

Something More

IMAGINE: Everyone knew that (Y/N) the youngest Baratheon and ‘enemy’ of Jaime Lannister, was the fairest lady in all of Westeros, she was expected to do traditional High Lady duties. What happens if she wants something more? And how does Jaime Lannister factor into it?

[gif is not mine. loosely based on beauty and the beast.]

‘There may be something there that wasn’t there before…’

She was known as the most beautiful Lady in all of Westeros, men flocked from across the seas to ask her hand in marriage -specifically asking her brother for her hand in marriage. Every time though, she rebutted claiming that she was not ready, or they would have just used her family name or her wealth. She wanted to escape, escape the life that she was given, of course she knew that she was being ungrateful. Being the sister to the King of Westeros wasn’t the worst thing in the world, but she wanted more. She wanted adventure, her heart thumping, the adrenaline rushing through her veins.

“I just don’t get why you will not agree to the courtship sister, he’s beyond a great match for you and for the family,” Stannis stated as they sat around the table. He placed a forkful of sausage into his mouth and chewed.

(Y/N) groaned and leaned back into her chair, “I want to be with someone who has passion dear brother, not some coward.”

“Don’t let Tywin hear that.”

She rolled her eyes and drank some wine from her goblet, “Oh please, Tywin cares for Lancel as much as I care for the kennelmaster.”

Stannis quietly laughed at the antics of his sister, “You better tell Robert that.” He looked at sister for a moment and noticed the uneasy look on her face. “Is anything the matter?”

(Y/N) hesitated, not wanting to tell her brother the truth but at the same time it’s been gnawing at her for a while. With a deep sigh she looked at her brother, “Do you think there’s more to this? More to wearing fancy dresses, escorting men to the ball, going to balls, being trained as a mere accessory to a man?”

Stannis sat quietly not knowing how to start the conversation. “Of course you’ve never had to deal with this, you’re a man. You get to fight, to have that adrenaline rushing through your veins. You get to travel and see the world!”

He was about to reply when the door to the hall opened and there strutted Jaime Lannister. “Ah, the stags are here already.”

(Y/N) scowled at his behaviour. “I mean we have to, unless we want the lions to be selfish and eat all of the food.”

Jaime walked to the table, making sure that he was behind (Y/N), leaning over he took a piece of fruit from a bowl in front of her. She would never admit it but she enjoyed the way that his body felt against hers, even if it was just for a short moment.

“You know princess, with that kind of behaviour it’s no wonder why you’re going to end up alone,” the words were meant to be cutting, and it would have been if it was the first time that he’s spoken it to her. Instead of feeling hurt she gave him a sardonic smile and accidentally elbowed him.

“Oh, I’m sorry did I hurt you?”

Jaime gave her a fake smile and moved towards his seat.

“You should know better than to provoke the lion,” Stannis berated her quietly. “He’s known as a beast (Y/N).”

“Am I supposed to be in fear of him Stannis?” (Y/N) looked towards her brother, placing her knife and fork on the plate.

They both looked at Jaime who was now looking at a maiden who was placing food on the table, sensing the looks from the Baratheon siblings he looked over and gave them a wink, then turned his sole focus on (Y/N) and smirked.

Stannis turned back to his sister whose focus was on Jaime. He watched intently as her eyes narrowed when Jaime placed his hands on the so-called wench. He didn’t like this, he didn’t like what this could be. Jaime Lannister and his sister were not a good sign, especially the way Jaime looked at his sister and disregarded the maiden when she stormed off from the table. Clenching his fist, he decided he needed to talk to his brothers.

“LANCEL LANNISTER?” (Y/N) bellowed into the room, her black hair flying around her face, her brown eyes lighting up with anger. She stopped at the table where Robert was seated at, papers scattered around the table and men sitting around him. “I DID NOT REALISE THAT I WAS SOME PROPERTY THAT COULD BE SOLD TO ANYONE!” The men looked at each other and discreetly got up and walked away, knowing that if they were there they would be collateral damage between the two Baratheon’s with the biggest tempers.

Robert merely leaned back into his chair, “We have to agreement that you need a man to take care of you sister.” He raised his goblet, “Plus you already know that Lancel was in the contracts.”

(Y/N) screwed up her nose, “You think I need a man to look after me?”

Her brother’s eyes widened, “No, of course not.” He rebutted.

“Then what is it?” She hissed, not noticing a certain blonde-haired Knightsguard watching with amusement.

“We need to fortify our allegiance with the Lannister family, they’re one of the strongest and wealthiest houses in Westeros,” Robert explained.

“Those aren’t your words Robert so don’t say them,” (Y/N) scowled at her brother. “Also you’re married to a Lannister if you didn’t notice!” She stalked up as close as she can to her brother, leaning on the table to do so, “Once again, I am not your property to be traded as you wish, other families can do that because they won’t say anything but you should know better. I will be married to a man when I choose to do so. I will not be one of those women who are forced into marriage when they are not ready nor do they love the person.” With a final glare at her brother she stormed off, slamming the door as she went.

(Y/N) paced back and forth, occasionally taking the time to look at the harbor and enjoying the ships and the ocean. “You know if anyone ever talked to a King like that their head will be on the pike.” She closed her eyes and took herself mentally to a place far away, far far away from where she stood. “But of course you can never shut your mouth can you?”

She finally opened her eyes to look at the man in front of her, his smirk firmly placed on his face, eyes glistening with amusement. “Do you have to be so…” (Y/N) pursed her lips trying to find the right word.

“Charming? Good looking? Dashing? Hung-like,” before he could finish his sentence he was cut off by her making a disgusted noise.

“So on all the time? Especially around me?” She always did wonder why it was only her that Jaime was so…Jaime like. The innuendos, the comments that can scathe a person’s ego if they didn’t brush it off.

Jaime hopped up and sat down on the balcony, “Because I enjoy the tormented look on your face.” He was quiet for a moment, a rare site to witness. “Lancel?”

(Y/N) groaned, “Don’t get me started. If my brothers can honestly think that they can just partner me with some blonde-haired coward.”

“He’s not a coward any more though,” Jaime interrupted. “Turned himself into a knight.” There was bitterness in his tone.

“He’s still a coward to me,” (Y/N) pointed out. “Always will be. He can hide behind that mask all of his life but we know better. He was the snivelling pathetic excuse of a man.”

Jaime let out a low whistle, “You don’t hold back do you?” (Y/N) laughed quietly, soon Jaime joined. It was a sight to behold, two so-called people who were barely friends laughing with no care in the world.

(Y/N) leaned against the balcony, holding her stomach, “I don’t want to marry him, everyone expects me though. Get married, bear his children and be the doting wife.” She bit her lip and furrowed her brows. “I want more than this life, more than dress nice, act nice, have sex with your husband but don’t get mad if he sleeps with other people.” (Y/N) let out a deep breath that she didn’t know she was holding. “I want to be able to dictate my life. It’s mine not anyone else’s.”

“You could always run away,” she looked at Jaime with an odd look on her face. It wasn’t one that she usually wore around him which ranged from scowls to disgust, this was mere curiosity.

“I think that can work if I’m not a princess,” (Y/N) reasoned out. Silence took the situation, (Y/N) looked over the harbor, while Jaime stared at her. “Am I so unwanted that the only person I can attract are men like Lancel?”

Jaime was taken aback by her comment. She was one of the most beautiful women he’s ever seen, a certain eye catcher for any men. “What are you talking about?”

“You must think of me as shallow but I want someone who wants me for more than my looks. There’s more to me than that.”

He was quiet for a moment, “I feel the same way.” (Y/N) arched a brow and he continued, “Everyone refers to me as this beast who enjoys nothing but killing and fucking whores.” Jaime hopped off the balcony and faced the view with her. “No one ever thinks of what else I am.”

“To be fair you never let anyone see any other side of you. I mean I’m probably the closest, I see the witty, rude side of you.” She winked at him and he chuckled.

Jaime fell silent, “No one ever wants to see that side of me. No one ever gives me that chance.” Again the silence took over the conversation. They were both thinking how did they get personal in such a short time.

“You’re not a beast Jaime,” the comment made his heart thump against his chest faster than ever before. “An arsehole sometimes but not a beast.” She reached for his hand and once she found it, she held it tightly and squeezed it. “If anyone dares to call you that to your face, or even a hint of rumour send them my way.”

Maybe it was the way she said his name with care for the first time, or the way her hand felt right against his, or actually willingly touched him without fear that they would be hit with his sword. There were too many factors, but what he did know was that he suddenly felt something for her that was definitely was not there before.

The Northern Lover

Requested By Anon (Smut)

“My brothers are watching you again.” Sansa said as you held the bottom of her skirt out of the puddles.

“They always do that.” You mumble to yourself but she chuckles and shakes her head.

“They desire you, Robb thinks he’d have a better chance.” Sansa hummed as you led her through the halls to Winterfell’s main dining room.

“Well… they’re foolish.” You say to yourself as she left you to join her family.

You jumped and pressed your hands to your mouth, attempting to stifle a scream, when someone placed a large hand on your shoulder. You turned to find a rather wide eyed and startled Jon with his hand still outstretched.

“Jon!” You hissed although a slight chuckle tainted your voice.

Can you do an (platonic of course) imagine about MC being kinda young? Like 13-15? Thank you!

separated saeran/unknown cuz the setting of this HC is more fitting for unknown, but included saeran too [so there are 2 different HCs]

Enjoy~

Ri’s Edit on May 6: Ayyyy throwback, this was my entry to get accepted as admin lololol!!

Yoosung:

  • he was really interested in the new girl in the RFA… unhealthily interested…
  • the poor, lonely boy didn’t know that you were barely in high school!
  • BOOM.
  • that’s the sound of his guilt and embarrassment crashing on him when he finally met you at the party.
  • “MC! You’re uh, really… young.”
  • but as you talked with him more, he realized that you’re still the same person in the chat that he admires
  • he respects you a lot for gathering so many guests, especially with your age
  • you were greeting all the guests so professionally and engaging them in thoughtful conversations, rather than simple, polite ones - after the party, he approaches you excitedly
  • “MC… I think you’re really amazing… Not everyone can handle this so well at your age!”
  • he would definitely ask you to hang out with him when you’re free, just as friends, looking past the age difference
  • he would probably like to take you to a pet shelter that he volunteers at, hoping to talk to you more, and to show you his skill with animals
  • although he was disappointed that he was still a single pringle, he’d be overjoyed that someone he respected so much (cough, you) was his friend

Zen:

  • it didn’t matter to him how old you were, because to him, you’re still a lady
  • and he’s deadset on being a gentleman.
  • he will fawn over you and offer his aid for the littlest things
  • “Let me help you, mi'lady.“
  • *insert sparkly smile*
  • Even if it’s just pouring water.
  • he takes a lot of selfies with you because he thinks that’s what teenagers are into.
  • deadly protective of you.
  • he will glare at seven for even THINKING to prank you, and WILL hunt him down
  • and he will even talk to Jumin Han if it means keeping him from talking to you and ‘tainting’ your purity
  • Zen was like the older overprotective brother (or maybe sister lololol) you didn’t know you had…
  • and even after the party, he continued to treat you like his little sister: taking you out for ice cream when you passed your tests, shopping with you and offering his fashion advice, making sure boys weren’t bothering you, all that sisterly Zen stuff

Jaehee:

  • she has so much respect for you, honestly
  • no, not because of the party organizing actually
  • but because you could deal with Jumin Han.
  • “MC! Please… I beg you to grow up faster, my job will be reserved for you!“
  • you thought it was ridiculous. It’s not like you really had any control over Jumin…
  • but you and Jaehee got along very well, and laughed about Jumin together
  • she even got you into watching Zen’s DVDs… although she covered your eyes for every inappropriate scene
  • “nonono MC, you’re too young for this!”
  • although, it really made you curious why she’d always be nosebleeding after…

Seven:

  • dude, he’s been gushing over how cute you looked since he first looked into your background
  • he has spammed V’s phone about you too many times to count
  • when he finally met you, he’d be playing pranks on you CONSTANTLY
  • and he’d be cracking lame jokes with you
  • and telling stupid stories to you - and pranking OTHERS with you
  • all those things he wanted to do with his brother… instead, he did them with you, someone he viewed as his little sister
  • but all his fun and games are gone as soon as anyone else makes fun of you. A guest pointed out that you were just a kid, and that it was improper for you to be at the party.
  • Seven angrily retaliated that you had organized the party, and made the guest apologize
  • that is, not before he stole the guest’s id card and hacked into all their social media!!
  • all behind your back of course, he didn’t want to be evil in your eyes. He wanted to be your Defender of Justice, 707!

Jumin

  • he had no idea you were so young.
  • after all, he was completely ignorant of it when you mentioned it in chat… It’s Jumin Han, what do you expect?
  • when he first saw you at the party, he thought you were a lost child.
  • “Good afternoon… Do you need help finding your parents?”
  • to say he was shocked when he found out you were MC would be an understatement
  • you two got off on the wrong foot for sure. You, upset that he thought you were a kid. Him, upset that you had shouted at him about it.
  • but as an adult, he felt that it was his responsibility to watch over you
  • so he watched as you easily interacted with the guests, making them laugh and successfully encouraging them to donate as much as they could
  • and he watched as you got along with the other RFA members better than he did, even though he’d been with them for much longer
  • and he watched as you delivered an inspiring speech, your charisma captivating the audience
  • he was so ready to hire you.
  • but you were still bitter about him…
  • so for weeks after the party, he was sending you luxurious gifts in an attempt to coax you into wanting to work for him in the future
  • finally, you confront him, demanding that he should stop sending gifts because you’d rather get to know him and develop the desire to work for him, rather than be tempted by money
  • well! you’ve just won over his respect and admiration, as a person, and as a female.
  • despite your protests, he will NOT stop spoiling you. Your TV broke down? Replaced. You cracked your phone? Now you have an entirely new one. You want a pet? Just choose one.
  • he’ll even give you special permission to play with Elizabeth the 3rd.

V

  •  - he adored you.
  • this man absolutely loved children, and treated you like a child, rather than your age
  • he gave you a giant teddy bear, bags of candy and a tiny tiara accessory when he met you at the RFA party
  • “she’s our little princess, don’t you think?!"
  • he sounded so excited about it, you’d feel bad protesting.
  • Seven was constantly taking pictures of you and snickering, and V eventually found out why
  • he felt bad for not considering your feelings.
  • he later apologized to you privately for treating you like a child… And promised to treat you with the same respect as the other members - but you admitted that you kinda liked being spoiled by him…
  • so don’t be surprised when he gives you a dress the next time he meets you - "it’s to match with your tiara, princess~"
  • you weren’t old enough to be his queen, but you were perfect to be his princess!

Saeran:

  • he shifted uncomfortably in front of you, and you stared right back with a smile
  • you had been tending to the party, but decided to take a break to talk to Saeran
  • he was still a bit shaky and adorably shy, now that the drugs weren’t controlling him anymore… The others were still a bit wary of him, so you wanted to give him a warm welcome…… although it wasn’t all too effective because you were so much younger than him
  • "you know, I’m not a kid… You don’t have to stay here to look after me,” he muttered, looking at his feet.
  • you smiled despite his intentions to push you away, replying, “but I’m a kid. So could you look after me?"
  • Saeran cracked a smile at your reply
  • ”..you’ve taken care of this entire party, so I think you can take care of yourself…“
  • and to your surprise, he said,
  • ”..but I don’t mind being with you like this.“

 Unknown

  • "why is my target so tiny."
  • that was his initial thought when he first began to stal- wait no that sounds illegal, ahem, investigate you
  • honestly, he felt a twinge of guilt as he watched you pick up the cell phone. But he proceeded with the plans anyway, secretly hoping you would refuse to follow his instructions
  • but goddammit, you were so fucking gullible
  • a part of him was silently screaming at you to be more careful of strangers, and to not be so trusting
  • after all, he couldnt trust anyone… not after THAT.. but that’s another story
  • he couldn’t help but watch over you worriedly, guarding your apartment, rather than spying on you (okay fine maybe a bit of both, he admitted..)
  • but apparently, you had noticed him from the start
  • he was a bit dumbfounded that you didn’t call the police or, god forbid, Seven for help, if you noticed him but oh well
  • you giggled in reply, "Of course I noticed! I’m not dumb, I helped to organize the party after all… I was waiting for you to say hi!"
  • he couldn’t help but blush. Only a little. Just a little…
  • "ahh… hi” (man he was awkward)
  • you smile, “Hihi~! You’ll be my friend, right?"
  • why was she so naive? Didn’t she know he was dangerous? Didn’t she herself just say that she knew he had been watching her secretly for DAYS? God, why did he even care about her, she’s just a target so-
  • your expectant gaze just killed his doubts.
  • ”…okay.“

Kara comes back.

(And oh, isn’t that a thought?

Kara comes back. Kara keeps returning, keeps slipping through those doors, fingers curling around the frame as easily as her smiles did around her heart.

Kara comes back and smiles and promises.)

“I noticed you’re still here.”

Lena hums, presses her nails just so against her knee to keep the pain there, keep it from her head, from her heart.

(Neither of them mention how Kara knows. How she would notice anything about L-Corp when Lena’s up fifteen stories.)

Nico coming out to Hazel

Art + Fic because I’ve had this small fic sitting around in my drafts for awhile and felt like publishing it. Thanks to everyone who came to my stream!! Drawing this one was a lot of fun.

“Yeah, I uh…” Nico’s gaze was faraway, and he began to twist at the ring on his index finger. Nico sighed and looked away. “Forget it.”

Hazel stuck out her lower lip. “Nico, what’s been eating at you?” She murmured tenderly. Hazel took a step closer to her brother, and Nico shuffled his feet in response. “Don’t think I haven’t noticed you disappearing again.” She blinked slowly, not looking away from Nico’s dark, hollow eyes. He wouldn’t meet Hazel’s gaze. “C'mon, sit down at least.” She reached out and gave a little tug to Nico’s wrist.

They sat down at the base of a tree and gazed out at Camp Half-Blood’s morning-bustling troopers. They were far enough away, though, that they couldn’t hear more than an occasional pegasus whinny from the stables or giggle of the naiads in the nearby lake. Nico stayed quiet, and the two siblings sat in silence, listening to the stream.

Hazel shuffled through the river rocks at their feet and handed Nico a smooth, flat one that. “Here, watch me.”

Nico tossed his gaze over at Hazel, then at the rock before taking it from her hands. He followed Hazel’s lead when she threw the stone into the river, except Nico managed to skipped his three times.

“If there’s… Something you want to talk about, I’m all ears.” Hazel spoke quietly.

Summary: Y/N is Peter’s Lost girl, and he isn’t exactly the boyfriend Y/N expected.

A/N: i’m not dead! I know i should write the next part of 3317, don’t worry, i will soon, i just really wanted to write this!

Part 2

The stick moved easy over the ground, drawing a line from the end in the sand. The lines became a castle as they so often had before. Peter would soon come back and destroy it, as he so often had before.

You sighed, and looked around at the camp. Some of the boys were cooking dinner, some hunted, some fooled around, and Peter was out doing god knows what. He did that a lot, he was almost never at the camp anymore.

“it has its purpose” he had said when you had asked. “don’t ask again”

And you hadn’t. Not because you were scared, no. You had never been scared at Peter, not like anyone else had, he treasured you. Nobody dared curl a hair on your head, everybody knew what had happened to the boy who by accident had hit you with an arrow, sometimes you could still hear his scream in the dark night. Every time you asked Peter to let him go, forgive him, it was just an accident!

“nobody hurts my queen” Peter always said, and kissed your forehead.

You stood up, and started walking out of the camp. Peter wasn’t here, surely you could leave for just five minutes.

You knew the forest almost as well as Peter. All the times you had snuck out here, just for him to go after you, to spend a little quality time with your king.

The forest went on and on, but you didn’t mind, why should you? The forest was a nice place, it was as if even the plants was afraid of what Peter could do to them, and not dared hurt you.

A voice cut through the silence on Neverland, and you followed the sound. It didn’t take many steps for you, before you stood in front of a group.

“hello” you said, all of them turning to you. There were five, a woman with long blonde hair, a woman with dark shoulder length, and one with short black hair. There were also two men, a blonde and a dark haired, the last one had a hook instead of one of his hands. Captain Hook no doubt, Peter had told you about him, you had never meet him however, until now.

“welcome to Neverland! “you said with a smile, but none of the adults returned it.

“who are you? “the women with shoulder length dark hair said, no doubt a leader.

“I’m Y/N, and you are? “you asked, looking at them.

“wait, Y/N? “the blonde one said and took a step towards you. “as in The Golden Castle Y/N? “

“I’m sorry to disappoint, but I only lived in one place before this island, and it was no castle for sure” you said with a smile. Again, nobody returned it. You waited for an answer to your earlier question, but they didn’t seem to want to give it.

“so, what brings you to Neverland? “you asked. “it’s not most people who choose this place for a holiday”

“it doesn’t concern you” the one with the shoulder length hair said.

“we’re looking for someone” the women with short black hair said, and you nodded. You had a feeling of who it was. “maybe you can help us, do you know where Peter Pan is? “

You opened your mouth to response, but never got to. A loud noise made you turn around, and you saw a lot of birds flying up from the forest, their voices ringing through the trees.

“that’s my sign” you said, and looked back at them. “sorry, but it was nice to meet you! “

The five adults watched you disappearing through the trees, before four of them turned to the last.

“what’s the golden castle? “Mary-Margaret asked Emma.

“it’s a fairy-tale” Emma said.

“about that girl there? “Regina asked, and Emma nodded. “well, tell us! “

“it’s about a poor girl called Y/N, that lives in a village with her younger sister” Emma started telling. “but one day an evil witch finds them, and kills her younger sister. Y/N is of course crushed when she finds out, and she runs out in the woods, where a prince finds her. He gets sympathy, and offers her a place at the castle, but of course the prince falls in love with her, her with him, and they get married”

“a poor girl that marries a prince and become princess, where have I seen that before?” Regina said sarcastic.

“that’s the point of this fairy-tale, this is the beginning” Emma said, and the forest became quiet, as if everything waited for Emma to continue the story.

“where have you been?! “Peter asked angry, and you turned around to watch him. You were on your way back, but of course Peter wanted to talk private first.

“I took a walk” you said, not looking him in the eyes. “nothing happened, I’m fine”

He held a hand out, and turned your head to look at him. his forest green eyes meet yours Y/E/C, and suddenly it was just you two.

“I don’t know what I would do if something happened to you… “he said in a quiet voice.

“I know” you replied, and he leaned down to let his lips meet yours.

“Y/N is not what people expect of a princess” Emma continued her fairy-tale. “she wants to go on adventures, explore the world, but the prince won’t let her. He keeps her in the castle with nothing to do but what he expects princesses to do, stare at gold”

“he wants princesses to sit and stare at gold all day? “David asked, and Emma nodded.

“well, I’m glad you’re not like that” Mary-Margaret said to her husband, trying to sound joking.

“how does she escape? “Regina asked, making them all look at Emma.

“she doesn’t”

“Peter stop” you said, showing his hand off your arm.

“no! “he said. “you can’t leave this camp, I won’t let you! It’s not safe! “

“I can take care of myself! “you said angry. This argument happened far too often, and you both knew exactly what the other would say next.

“but you don’t need to! “he said, following the script down to every detail. “the boys and i can protect you, you don’t have to do it yourself! “

“you can’t keep me a prisoner! “you said angrily, knowing this wouldn’t last much longer.

“oh yes, I can! “he said, and you widened your eyes. He had never threatened you before.

“what? “you asked in a whisper, not being sure you had heard correctly.

“I said” he took a step towards you, so you had to tilt your head back to look him in the eyes. “yes. I. can! “

“what do you mean she doesn’t escape? “Mary-Margaret asked.

“I mean she doesn’t escape” Emma said, looking at her mother. She had never liked the story, and had felt relived when there was no Y/N in Storybrooke, now it turned out she was here. “she wants to, but right before she does it, the prince lock her up in the castle”

“but all fairy-tales has a happy ending! “David argued. He had always trusted his story to have a happy ending, to live happily ever after, that was how it should be.

“except this one” Emma said, her eyes dark by the thought of the story.

“LET ME OUT! “you screamed, but nobody answered. The wooden bars were rough under your hands, the cage swinging in the air. You could see two lost boys on the ground, but they were too far away for you to recognize them.

It wouldn’t make any difference, all the boys feared Peter, no one would dare to cross him. Before it had been nice, feeling so safe, but now you were a prisoner, trapped in a cage like all of his’ enemies.

“Please… “you begged quiet, letting go of the bars, feeling a single tear run down your cheek.

You had never been afraid of Peter, why should you? He had only protected you. He still wanted to protect you, and he thought he did just that. But you didn’t feel protected, you felt scared. Scared of the boy you loved.

Oh, what a horrible feeling. Fearing someone you loved. Wanting to run so far away you possible could, but also wanting to throw yourself into their arms. Oh, what a horrible feeling, being trapped on the green island you once had ruled with your king, calling it your kingdom.

Riverdale the small town that once was the epitome of all that was right in the world. Although growing up, you started seeing Riverdale for what it was, the epitome of everything that was wrong with the world. The police only answered to the Blossoms, The Coopers ran any story they wanted whether it be correct or not. But what shook this town was something much darker.

The story goes, Jason Blossom drowned in Sweetwater River after an early boat ride with his twin Cheryl Blossom. The truth later was revealed that Cheryl was just accompanying her brother across the river so he could escape Riverdale. He was leaving to start a new life with none other than Polly Cooper who was awaiting helplessly for the love of her life not knowing about the murder of the father of her child. Jason’s body was later found with a bullet to the head. There was a murderer out there and no one knew who it was. It could be anyone of the citizens of Riverdale the problem was not finding a needle in the haystack, it was finding a needle in a needle stack.

You, Jughead and Betty took it upon yourselves to try and solve this murder because plenty was being covered up by the adults. Jughead the brooding writer, Betty the innocent, and you the planner.

Finding Intel for this mission was not going to be easy. Trev Brown slipped to Betty that Jason was selling his valuables and drugs. You got close to Cheryl and figured out that things at home, that was a façade, she was miserable and sadly the only one who would stick by her side was now gone. A visit to Polly Cooper in the Sisters of Quiet Mercy a Home for Troubled Youth. We figured out Polly was with child and sadly she didn’t know of about Jason’s murder and that they were planning to run away. There was runaway car with plenty of evidence of a runaway Jason, but just our luck someone burned it.

The theories were endless was it The Blossoms hiring a hit man to rid of the troublemaker son who was tainting their “good” name? Was it Hal Cooper who did not want his daughter with a Blossom because of a long family feud? Did Polly do it after maybe Jason tipping her to her parents so she would be sent away and he could run away alone? Was it Cheryl out of pure jealousy of her brother loving someone else that wasn’t her? Was it Alice Cooper with a grudge to last a lifetime? Was it any football player that couldn’t stand living behind Jason’s quarterback shadow? Even a longshot was it The Lodges claiming their rise at Riverdale? Or the sexual predator Jennifer Gibson who now only answered to Ms. Grundy? Was her sob story correct and her abusive boyfriend found her and mistaken Archie for Jason.

But not even you saw the next events coming up imaginable.

You were talking to Archie by the lockers and Sherriff Keller and Principal Weatherbee escorted your boyfriend Jughead to the police station.

“Call my dad” was all that escaped his mouth and you and Archie nodded.

Archie called his dad, so he could contact FP as you made your way to the police station.

After Sherriff Keller finished speaking to Jughead he let you in, to talk to him.

“I didn’t do it (Y/N)” He claimed as you took a seat across him.

“Of course, I was with you, and I know who you are” you replied while grabbing his hands.

“Those paradise lost kids went to death row because they wore black and they listened to Metallica” He chimed in his wide open trying to hold in tears “I don’t want to be a scapegoat (Y/N)” he continued as a tear escaped and you swiped it with your hand.

“I’m not going to let that happen” you answered as he let out a sigh “all the evidence against you is circumstantial, were going to get you out of here Juggie” you claimed as he squeezed your hands.

“Is my dad even here?” he questioned you with a hope in his eyes.

“Archie’s here” you paused “with his dad, they’re talking to the sheriff” you admitted as he looked down letting go of one of your hands so he could clean up his nose with his jacket and sniffed.

“No one knows where your dad is” you informed Jug as Archie’s dad was fixing things up with the Sherriff and lied about Jughead’s alibi to get him out of there.

“Hey I’m here, and I care and I am not going anywhere Jug” you reassured your boyfriend.

“Thanks (Y/N)” Jughead grabbed your hand and laid a small kiss on it.

“What did Kevin’s dad say to you?” you questioned Jughead and he shifted in his seat.

“Nothing” Jughead muttered.

“C’mon Jug, what is it? You can trust me” you responded.

“He brought up that incident when I was little, the one I told you about, and the fact that Jason and his Goonies bullied me and of course my deadbeat dad as he worded it” he recounted “I am the perfect scapegoat” Jughead continued.

“That Asshole” you retorted “Who does he think he is? Stigmatizing you because of factors that you have no control over” you interjected, the blood in your body boiling.

“Hey, hey calm down, wasn’t it you that said everything was going to be fine” Jughead claimed.

“Well, yeah, but who does he think he’s kidding, he wants a killer, so he’s going to blame someone because of their background, you said it best Jug. We are not our parents, we are who we choose to become” you spoke up as the fire was building up inside of you “You are not getting this pinned on you, I will not let that happen and he-” your rant was interrupted by Sherriff Keller stating that Jughead was free to go.

“You just wasted time on a stereotypical assumption that could’ve been used to actually catch a murderer on the loose” you fired back at Sherriff Keller as Jughead grabbed your wrist taking you away.

“Really (Y/N/N) now you could be a suspect” Jughead pointed out.

“That’ll show him, pining things on my Juggie without any real evidence, plus I have an alibi for July 11” you chimed in as Jughead pulled you in for a hug and placed a kiss on your lips.

You choose) Leo: Gryffindor And solangelo of course. Please? *puppy dog eyes*

Your wish has been granted in the middle of me studying for my exams.

(This will also be posted on my AO3)

“Ugh, this tie sucks,” Nico groaned, looking over at his two roommates, Reyna and Piper. They had, after talking to the headmaster, been allowed to share a room. Nico felt very uncomfortable with the other boys (mainly because they thought he was a freak) and his only friends from the house were Reyna and Piper. So, now, in their fifth year, they got the permission to share a dorm.

Reyna looked up. “It looks good on you, Nico. You’re way better than me at tying them, that’s for sure.”

“You guys, if we don’t get going soon, there’s no chance we’ll be able to eat breakfast before our first class,” Piper said from the door, eyeing her two roommates, one of which was straightening out their tie and the other one looking for their shoes. Her expression changed from a serious one to a wide grin. “And besides, there’s always something you can look at in the Great Hall, isn’t there?”

Nico scoffed, but couldn’t stop the faintest blush to spread over his pale cheeks. “I have no idea what you’re talking about.”

Reyna adopted the same grin as Piper as she pulled on her shoes, having finally found them under her dresser. “Suuure, so there isn’t a certain Hufflepuff you have your eyes on?”

“No. Leave me alone.” And with that, Nico marched out of their room, past Piper and out of the Slytherin Common Room.

As he made his way towards the Great Hall alone, he let his thoughts wander. How dare they assume that he liked anyone in Hufflepuff? Well, of course he liked someone there - his sister Hazel and her boyfriend Frank - but that wasn’t important right now. He did not have a crush on anyone. Not since the admire-crush thing he had on one of his friends in second grade. He was done with romance already. No one would want a freak who happened to think that necromancy was cool. Especially not perfect blond guys with the bluest eyes in the world that helped out in the hosp- no, he was not going there with his thoughts. Not now.

He walked into the Great Hall and started to look for his friends. After each Welcome-back-to-school party, the house tables got switched out with smaller tables so that the students could sit with whoever they wanted to. Nico, with his ‘friend’ group being spread across all the houses, this was definitely an advantage for them.

At one of the tables close to the left wall, he saw Percy sitting with Annabeth and Leo and he started to walk towards them, also minding the tables around them to see who sat there.

“Hey, Nico,” Percy greeted him as he sat down and got a glass of apple juice, not really having much of an appetite like usual.

“Hey,” Nico mumbled. Then he noticed the faint bags under his friend’s eyes. “Wait, you actually stayed up last night and got your homework done? Since when?”

“Since Annabeth forced me to. We stayed in the library until it closed and then we went to her common room. I fell asleep after 11:30.” He ended his explanation with a big yawn. “And I’m not happy about it.”

Reyna and Piper joined them, followed by Hazel, Frank and Jason. “Of course you’re not. You don’t like homework,” Reyna said before focusing his attention on Nico. “You have to eat. Remember the last time you ‘forgot’ to eat both dinner and breakfast in a row?”

Nico grimaced. He had passed out in the hallway and been brought to the hospital wing where he woke up to find a student looking after him rather than Madam Pomfrey. That was an experience he would rather not repeat again, so he helped himself to a small bowl of cereal. “Happy?”

“Very,” a familiar voice said behind him. Nico turned around and almost knocked his goblet over, glaring at the person standing behind him. Of course it was him. Will Solace. The boy who had taken care of him in the hospital wing more times that he liked to admit.

“You really have to eat breakfast Nico, or else you’ll pass out again. You’re already almost too skinny and you really don’t need to drop any more weight,” Will said, looking down at him.

Nico sent a death glare back in return. “I didn’t ask for you to stick your nose into my friend’s conversation.”

Will crossed his arms. “Well, I didn’t ask for you to be such an idiot about your health either, but funnily you are one anyways.”

The Seven and Reyna watched as Will and Nico continued to bicker, eventually drawing the attention of the people sitting at nearby tables as well. They all could feel the thick sexual tension between the boys and a couple girls sitting at almost the other end of the hall yelled, “Can you two just kiss and get over it?”

Nico’s head whipped up to glare at the yeller before stomping out of the Great Hall with a dark blush covering his face and shadows making a small trail behind him.

Will looked after him with an equally dark blush before joining his friends at some other table.

Later, when the Hufflepuffs and Slytherins had Herbology together, Nico avoided Will at all costs. He couldn’t have a crush on the stupid blond. Not after Percy. No. Nope. Nix. Nada. He was done with romance and Will probably couldn’t stand him. He was just a creepy freak that had always been able to manipulate shadows, bones and ghosts to some degree. It was connected to dark magic in people’s minds and many stayed away from him. Not that he minded, people just wasn’t his thing. Period.

Problem was, Will didn’t seem to want to avoid Nico. No, that idiot walked up to where Nico was working with Hazel and asked if they could talk privately after the class was over. Nico reluctantly agreed, even if he knew Will was just going to make fun of him and his sexuality. But deep inside, Nico knew that Will wasn’t the type of person to do that. So why the heck did he want to talk to Nico then?
