In a 1981 interview with TIME Magazine, Fred Astaire described making the “Fred and Ginger movies”:
“[The process was like] running the four-minute-mile for six months. I’d lose 15 lbs. during rehearsal. But then you’d get in a winning groove — a kind of show-business dream sequence where you can’t do anything wrong. The choreography was a mutual effort: Hermes Pan, Ginger… even Adele contributed. And of course Ginger was able to accomplish sex through dance. We told more through our movements instead of the big clinch. We did it all in the dance.”
