my resolution for next year is to post more and actually talk to all of you

PLL 7x17 Driving Miss Crazy - Thoughts

- LOVED the episode. Entertaining from start to finish! Look, we all knew that “answers every week” is bullshit. I say this every week, but we’ve waited so many years, so we can wait 3 more weeks. So let’s just set aside the fact that we get no answers and just appreciate the fast pace and lack of fillers. I’m glad that the build up to the almighty answers-episode is fun. Season 7 really is the best season to date in my opinion.

- This episode should’ve been called Mona Mania, instead of that season 3 episode! She owned this episode. I won’t even list everything she did that justifies her walking around town with a crown on her head. You know all the reasons. Just every Mona scene was so damn entertaining.

- NO ALI!!! Instant success!!! It felt like a good old season 4 episode. I say this a lot but Ali still feels like the outsider to the group. The dynamics just work better with Spencer, Hanna, Aria and Emily. I love those 4 together. Ali still doesn’t fit in the group, in my eyes. I might feel like that because we had 4 whole seasons with just the 4 of them so I’m too used to it and I never adapted to the change properly when she came back in 5A. No hate on Sasha, but I’m just not a fan of Ali’s character, I’ve always thought they ruined her once she came back from the dead. This episode just had great vibes without her, just like 713.

- Hastings drama was on point. Nolan is doing an amazing job playing Peter.

- We did it! Another thing this Tumblr community guessed right: Aria was filing a police report against Ezra during the time she found out he was writing a book. It’s a shame they’re not going further and doing the abortion story, but I still like this.

- MARY!! Welcome back. I actually feel sorry for her. I think she’s the most misunderstood character ever in PLL history.

- I did really enjoy the plot twist that Peter and Jessica were planning to kill Mary but she intercepted and killed Jessica. Self defence. I never saw that coming. It doesn’t change the final outcome that Mary killed Jessica, but it’s a nice additional layer to the overall story to show just how complex this mystery is. I appreciated and enjoyed that unnecessary layer.

- Ezra pisses me off SO MUCH. He’s so blind. He’s so stupid. Just like last week, he thinks everything is about him. “You still don’t trust me because I wrote a book?” UMMMM NO???? Two weeks ago (PLL timeline) Hanna was abducted and EVERYONE, including Ezra, got a message from someone named AD, and the twin of a dead woman rocked up in town. Why has Ezra forgotten all of this??? Does he think AD just packed up and went home?? Does he think Hanna’s abduction was just a prank gone wrong and that all the messages about ‘find Hanna before it’s too late’ was just for fun? He saw ‘Hanna’ hanging from ropes in the bell tower, and he thinks the thing bothering Aria is trust issues from 6 years ago? Open your eyes Ezra. Someone is messing with your fiancé again. Not everything is about you.

- On a positive note I did appreciate his comments about regret with the book situation. I know that was very sincere. But get a hold of reality. Aria’s change of mood is not about you, ffs.

- Did that shirt from Radley belong to Spencer’s twin? Idk, just something to think about.

- The fact that AD is trying to break apart the Hastings house feels like AD has a vendetta against the Hastings. Perhaps, Twincer is angry they adopted Spencer but not herself? Revenge?

- Spencer’s numberplate was CHD. I know we shouldn’t be looking into this stuff because not once have these had meaning, but, I couldn’t help but think back to Charles DiLaurentis.

- Thank god the musical number was short. I mean, I enjoyed it, and Janel can sing, but it did feel a bit random and out of nowhere. Perhaps that’s because I was so immersed in the episode and enjoying it so much, that when that came on, the pace was ruined out of nowhere. But judging it for what it is, standalone, it was cool! I don’t understand Lucy’s comments that all the girls were in it? Were they, and I just didn’t see them? haha

- I’m surprised Spencer hasn’t pieced together that Aria is doing this. The earring… bringing dinner then leaving? I don’t know about you guys but not once in my entire life have I driven to my friends house to drop off dinner for them and then leave? That’s just weird. Some might say it’s a polite gesture… and it is, but it’s weirdly polite. No one does that?? “Hey I brought you dinner! Ok I’m going now!” wtf?

- Can Marco just arrest them already!? They’re dwindling on this story for too long. Too much talking, not enough action.

- The episode felt incomplete. I don’t like how they’re dragging on a few storylines into the next episode, such as Aria’s reward (we know it was her files… but I wanted to actually read them in detail) and the doctor’s ID. Those storylines were the stories of THIS episode. Episode 17 was about THOSE things - they should’ve got total resolution, to define the episode and say “episode 17 revolved around these things”. I was just waiting for them to say Wren’s name (in regards to the doctor who did the procedure). And it never came. This episode should’ve had just one more reveal of sorts. And I don’t like that they didn’t just reveal things then and there. Oh and also the puzzle pieces… I thought with 2 more pieces, we’d get a better idea of what the pieces are forming. But no. So that was a tiny bit disappointing, that Aria did all that work and she/we still didn’t really get much out of it.

- That ending confirmed for me that Mona is not AD. It’s too obvious. I know CeCe was obvious because they literally showed her in a hoodie… but this is different. This is too close to the finale. I don’t believe Mona is AD. Instead, Mona wants to win the liars’ trust back so she’s working to solve the game, rather than administer the game to them. Also she is saving their assess by taking the shovels/potential evidence - it’s good not bad. Unfortunately this all comes back to Mona dying in the finale. She’ll get way too close to AD’s identity, and then AD will kill her. Thankfully, the girls will pickup where Mona left off and end it themselves. Then, they’ll realise they couldn’t have done it without Mona. So sad, but it’s a great story arc especially for a series finale.

- Caleb’s talk about Hanna to Ashley was adorable. That was a really well done scene. I loved their tent scene with the rings and Hanna bringing the bottle because she anticipated Caleb would say “yes I meant those words”. We all know the writers chose a tent because that’s where they spent their first night - I like that attention to detail. Terrible song choice… oh my gosh. Why not just use the same song as 1x19 (I think that was the episode?) Nostalgia always sells.

- Overall, my second favourite episode this season! 8.5/10. I really did like it. Again, I’ve gotten over the fact that we don’t get answers every episode. It was a lie, yes, but I’m not going to sit here and whinge when the answers are just 3 weeks away anyway. I’m just taking the episodes for what they are, disregarding all comments from writers, and I’m loving the ride. Fast paced, good writing, amazing mystery/story. Decent romance too - coming from someone who only watches for mystery, they’re doing well. I honestly would’ve rated this a 10/10 episode if they just went that extra mile and revealed the doctor’s name (Wren), showed us Aria’s reward properly AND give us insight into what the puzzle pieces are forming. The episode felt incomplete that they started stories this episode and never resolved them completely. But nonetheless, it was amazing. No Ali definitely contributed to that ;) 8.5 might seem high for an episode with no answers, but I was entertained from start to finish, no fillers, decent romance, really good mystery… can’t say much bad other than it feeling incomplete. This was an episode of PLL doing what it does best. IF ONLY THEY JUST GAVE A LITTLE BIT MORE IN THE FINAL MINUTES.

EDIT: SORRY I MEAN DONOR - NOT DOCTOR. It’s 2.30am right now, and I just finished watching the episode. I was going to watch it in the morning but I stayed up to get this post out - I always get messages asking when my thoughts post will be up!

Shingeki no Kyojin chapter 94 review (+ theories)

Too bad June means I’ll be busy till the end of the month but… finally… This is the chapter that concluded volume 23: a volume specifically dedicated to Marley, with mentions from the inhabitants of Paradis.

In this chapter, we’re back to Rebellio: the internment zone confining all Eldians from Paradis.

That chapter certainly didn’t end up in a whole cliffhanger, but more like as a comparison between children’s lives on Paradis and outside of Paradis. We also got more details about two things: the lifestyle of an Eldian family inside the walls, present-time, and the birth of the present warrior generation.

  1. Falco
  2. The mysterious man
  3. The comeback
  4. Gabi and the Braun family
  5. Reiner’s past

I doubt this is going to be as long as last review, but there’s still a couple of points worth elaborating. As always, follow me under the cut.

I saw the post @fonbella made a few days ago about how most of the voltron poly fics are nsfw, and that it sucks major ass, (I tried finding the post but couldn’t,,,,,) and I agreed 100% and immediately came up with like 100 ideas for nice innocent stuff. This is the one I liked the best. Read more because it got a little long, or read on ao3

“He-llo YouTube!” Lance smiled brightly at the camera, giving his signature wink and finger guns. The lights were all set, his room properly organized, everything was exactly like it always was when he sat down to film another video… Except for one little fact. He had unusual guests today. Emphasis on unusual, because he often had guests over. Other YouTubers, friends, his little sisters, even his mother at one point.

But today… He glanced to the side, where his two boyfriends, Keith and Shiro stood out of camera shot and waited for his signal. Today was special.

2015 Camren Analysis Part 2: Complete Analysis So Far

||31Jan2015|| OK guys, it’s go time. (I will edit as they continue to post, so if you’re interested, stay updated on this blog)

So, what I’ve gathered from Lauren so far is that she still isn’t willing to take things to the next level with Camila/go public with their relationship. Her level of discomfort with that whole notion is at the point where she seems to be willing to end things with Camila (which is really fucking heart-breaking and unfortunate). She posted this mid-day on 30jan2015:

It’s gotten to the point where Lauren is willing to throw 2 and a half years with Camila because she’s so apprehensive to come out with their relationship. I understand why she doesn’t want to do it for a couple of (possible)  reasons. 1: when she decides to go solo (let’s face it, Fifth Harmony isn’t going to be Fifth Harmony forever) she doesn’t want to pigeon hole herself as the non hetero female artist (sort of like those actors who get classified as character actors; Google it if you don’t know what that means). 2: she is legitimately undergoing an internal struggle with her own sexuality and isn’t ready to accept that she may not be 100% straight. Or 3: (and i reallyyyy fucking hate to say this) maybe she thinks she has genuinely outgrown Camila. I say that because she posted this (around midnight):

In my 100% honest opinion, I think it was fucked up of her to post this, because she was basically telling the world that she thinks Camila is emotionally immature. It would have been more tactful to say all of this to each other in person, not passive aggressively on Tumblr. Cuz at the end of the day, she is equally immature because she’s doing the same thing that Camila is doing.

She also reblogged a quote pretty much saying that she wants Camila to talk to her because she’s getting sick of the silence between the two (Camila just reblogged a quote talking about ignoring her, so it does line up). So there is a glimmer of hope that these two will cut the bullshit and passive aggression and actually talk about the issues they have with each other. Lauren seems to play the role os a hard-ass in this whole ordeal, but at the end of the day, she truly does miss her connection with Camila and wants to talk. This is what Lauren posted earlier on Jan. 30:

Okay.

And on Camila’s part….well first of all, she reblogged this for about the 3rd time:

So Camila is clearly still hurt about Lauren’s unwillingness to compromise. I understand Camila’s point of view as well. Because think about it, hiding a relationship for over 2 years has to be fucking exhausting. That shit would get old real quick, especially when so many people already know about it anyway. They can’t keep up the charade of Camren only being a “lovely, divine friendship” (Camila’s own words) forever. She is also hurt because over the years, she has probably told Lauren her inner most thoughts secrets (which contributed to their closeness) and she probably feels betrayed that after all they’ve been through, Lauren still isn’t cooperating with her. She may also feel that even if they’re just on a friendship level, Lauren would be more understanding of her point of view. She posted this:

It also seems as if Camila wants to draw attention to her Tumblr, which makes me believe that their main argument is about them coming out. She posted this:

This next post mirrors Lauren’s previous post (so they’re obviously talking to each other):

I honestly thought Camila was ready to call it quits when she posted this:

She also posted this for the second time in a week:

But I think they are both still hopeful (as well as me) that they can work something out. It will only work though if they meet each other in the middle. It seems as if Camila realizes that relationships (especially one as high profile as theirs) aren’t always going to be perfect or easy, but if you’re willing to work on them, they can end up happily. She posted this:

Camila also addresses why she has been giving Lauren the cold shoulder in this post:

This was Lauren’s reaction to Camila ignoring her:

Camila then went on to post various quotes saying that she wants lay with and talk to Lauren (probably to relax the tension between them and hopefully make up). We all know that Lauren can be head strong at times but hopefully she’ll be receptive to what Camila’s saying and call a truce. Camila posted these:

Also, Lauren posted this on Instagram earlier :

You can tell that this is weighing heavily on their hearts and minds because Camila posted this:

Whoo! lol it took alot of work and time putting this all together. But to sum it all up, Lauren and Camila really just need to be mature and talk to each other personally about this. I think it would be beneficial to have a mediator help them work through their issues because they can’t seem to find a resolution. It would seriously be a shame for them to throw everything away over a temporary impasse.

Also, I think it’s important for them to realize that if they let this issue get too out of hand, it could negatively affect their band mates, family, friends, and fans. Let’s be honest, the main reason they have fans is because we enjoy seeing the chemistry and positive energy between Fifth Harmony. We’re not idiots. We will definitely be able to pick up on any tension or negative energy within the group during any of their interviews, live performances, etc. and it will get awkward and uncomfortable. Something like this could easily lead down a road to destruction for the girls if they don’t get it under control.

It even seems like Ally (the mother of the group) may also be getting involved in their problem. Ally posted this:

This is the wrong time to allow something as silly as relationship drama to destroy everything Camren/Fifth Harmony has worked for. Their best bet at the moment is to seek an outside opinion of someone they trust and to take a small break from each other until they both cool off. Maybe taking a step back will give them the clarity that they so desperately need. BUT, you also have to take into consideration that they are both young and they will continue to make mistakes (which is a huge factor in this whole thing). Lauren’s stubbornness and Camila’s persistence is only going to create a rift between them and they both should just chill out for a moment, step back, realize what’s actually important to them, and continue to be the beautiful, intelligent, passionate women that they are. I honestly feel like this will blow over if they both just have a little patience and faith in each other. We all want nothing more than for them to be happy.

I said it before and I’ll say it again: 2015 is going to be the year that makes or breaks Camren (if they don’t get their heads out of their asses).  I say this because they’ve moved pass the phase of attraction and lust and they seem to be taking their relationship more seriously this year.

(I apologize if this is incomprehensible, but I’m tired as fuck)

Again, thanks for reading! Love you all! <3

**I will continue to make edits once more information is available and when I get some rest, so stay tuned!**

Could you write some Jegulus fluff with no established relationship?

James got home from uni, taking the stairs two at a time, and immediately turned on his laptop. It was Thursday, which meant The Black Brothers would be posting another video. James was just a little bit obsessed with them, especially Regulus. He had a bit of a crush on him and had freaked out a bit when Regulus had followed him in Instagram.

Sirius and Regulus Black were two extremely attractive brothers who posted videos on Youtube of them getting drunk and then doing that challenges their followers asked of them. They were always hilarious to see, especially when they failed hardcore at whatever the task was.

“Hey everyone!” Sirius said, waving at the camera excitedly. “I’m Sirius.”

“Hullo!” Regulus said beside him, giving his own wave. “And I’m Regulus.”

“Welcome to the Black Brothers, where we make poor decisions under the influence of alcohol!”

“And you enable us for your own entertainment, you sick fucks!” Regulus joked, putting his arm around Sirius’ shoulders. “So what ill-begotten challenge will we be doing today?”

“Well, I for one am very excited about this one,” Sirius said, rubbing his hands together. “This challenge comes from @Prongs on twitter! Wait, Reg, is that the guy whose Instagram you’re constantly looking at?”

James inhaled sharply and leaned in closer  to the screen.
“What?” Regulus said, a blush rising to his cheeks. “I don’t do that.”

“Yeah you do,” Sirius said, pulling away from Regulus and sliding his phone out of his pocket. He began typing quickly. “Yeah, that’s totally him!”

James had to bite onto his wrist to keep back a squeal as Sirius showed his phone to the camera. It was a picture of James with his shirt off. “Look at him! I can see why Reg likes him.”

James let out a noise that wasn’t human. He regretted every decision in his life.

“I’m going to kill you,” Regulus said, shoving Sirius.

Sirius simply laughed and put his phone back into his pocket. “Okay, okay, I’ll move on. So Prongs, AKA the love of Reg’s life, has challenges us to play the guitar while drunk.”

“In honour of this challenge, we will be drinking Pina Coladas!” Regulus said, seemingly having gotten over his earlier embarrassment.

“I said we should have drank hard liquor like real rock stars,” Sirius said, making a face.

“And you were overruled,” Regulus said shortly as Remus, Sirius’ boyfriend and the camera operator appeared from the side and handed them each a drink.

“How was I overruled?” Sirius asked in confusion. “There’s only two of us!”

“Shh, just drink,” Regulus said, tipping Sirius’ cup up towards his mouth.

The camera cut to later that night when both Regulus and Sirius were absolutely pissed. Some words flashed on the screen, which had never happened before. Prongs - this is for you.

James sat up straight and watched the screen with such intensity that it made his eyes water. Regulus was on the sofa with Sirius in the middle and Remus on Sirius’ other side.

“He’s just so hot, you know,” Regulus was slurring drunkenly. “Like unbelievably hot. He works out, you know? And there’s all these pictures of him like right after the gym and holy fuck he is fit.”

Sirius and Remus exchanged a look and Sirius looked like he was trying not to laugh.

“And he loves animals which is just…pfft…” Regulus buzzed his lips together and shrugged. “I mean, come on. I think he works at the zoo or something? He’s got all these pictures of baby elephants and cute little penguins. And there’s a picture of him holding a baby fox, which are my favorite fucking animal, and I swear I almost died.”

“Have you ever talked to him?” Sirius asked.

Regulus huffed and dropped his head back onto the sofa. “I’ve commented on some of his photos. Not what I really want to say, just generic bollocks that everyone writes. What I really want to say is oh my god you’re perfect, please marry me and let me snog your perfect face.”

Sirius snorted into his drink.

James felt his heart start racing but he also felt a bit guilty. Regulus clearly had no idea the camera was on as he said all this. It felt a bit like reading someone’s diary, it was just so invasive.

James’ phone was blowing up with notifications from Twitter and Instagram but he resolutely ignored them. His eyes were still glued to the screen to hear what Reg would say next.

“I just..how do I even begin to talk to him?” Regulus asked, scrubbing his hand over his face.

“You could always try talking to him,” Remus offered kindly. “He might be excited about it.”

James nodded in agreement with Remus.

Regulus sighed. “I don’t know…”

The video cut again and James shouted in frustration. It came back on to their usual backdrop as Regulus and Sirius had guitars slung over their shoulders. Sirius actually knew how to play the guitar but as he attempted to play “Sheena is a Punk Rocker.” His movements were sloppy as he switched chords and he kept growling in frustration. It was extremely amusing to see.

Regulus went next and didn’t seem to know anything about playing the guitar. He just kind of kept strumming and sliding his fingers around randomly while Sirius cringed beside him. James wasn’t even sure what song it was meant to be.

“Okay, so Sirius got all the musical talent in our family,” Regulus said with a shrug.

“Either way, i think we can safely say challenge overcome!”

“Thanks for joining us! See you next Thursday where we do more dumb shit that makes us look like assholes.”

“Bye!”

The video cut out and James quickly pressed replay. He usually did that anyway, but he knew he was going to watch this video several times. He dared to look through his notifications on his phone and practically everyone on the internet had sent him a link to the video or were asking him all these invasive questions. He’d gained a good 500 followers in the last half hour.

He wasn’t sure what to do in response to this. Should he comment on the video and hope Regulus saw it? Maybe make a response video of his own.

He couldn’t decide and tossed and turned about it all night. When he woke up in the morning he still didn’t have a good response. Instead he got ready for work, hoping the day might distract him.

“All right everyone, stay together!” he called out to the group he was showing around the zoo for the day. James was a guide and he was currently taking a small birthday party through the zoo on the safari track. It didn’t seem like it would be difficult keep 12 eight-year-olds together, but it was. He was about to radio Marlene for some help when someone caught his eye.

Sirius, Regulus and Remus were all sitting together at one of the tables, eating soft pretzel and people watching. James froze and looked around in shock, not sure what he was meant to do. Remus seemed to spot him first and nudged Regulus.

“Marlene,” James radioed her quickly. “I need help.”

“Coming!” Marlene said cheerfully through her walkie.

The kids around him kept tugging on his vest in an effort to get him to move but James couldn’t get his feet to move. Regulus Black was making his way right towards James and he was immobile from the shock.

“Hi,” Regulus said softly. “I’m Regulus.”

“I know,” James said, laughing anxiously. “What are you doing here?”

Regulus bounced on the balls of his feet and smiled sheepishly. “It was my brother’s idea. I assume you saw the little stunt he pulled with the camera.”

“Yeah, I um, might have seen it,” James said, shoving his hands in his pockets.

Marlene finally showed up. “What do you need, James?”

“Hi, Marlene, hi!” James said, feeling his palms becoming sweaty inside his pockets. “I have a personal thing to attend to. Would you mind finishing up with my group.”

Marlene looked between James and Regulus and then smiled. “No problem,” she said, herding the children away from them.

“So, this is a bit awkward, isn’t it?” Regulus said, biting his bottom lip. “I didn’t mean to make it sound like I was, you know, obsessed with you or anything. It probably didn’t help that now I’ve shown up at your work unannounced. That’s what I get for listening to Sirius.”

“No, it’s fine!” James said quickly. “I’m glad you found me because see I was trying to think of a way to reach out to you but i hadn’t come up with anything good yet.”

Regulus ran his fingers through his short, dark hair. He looked even better in real life than he did on camera and James had to keep himself from actively drooling. “So, any chance you might want to go out sometime?”
“Of course!” James answered right away. “That sounds great!”

Regulus smiled. “Really?”

“Yeah,” James nodded. “God, you’re actually really here. You came to find me. This is so surreal.”

Regulus stepped forward and took James’ hand in his own. “Want to show me around?”

James grinned and gave Regulus’ hand a squeeze. “I’d love to.”

2016 IN REVIEW

The year of 2016 shall in many peoples memories, be a year of complete and total shit. A year that saw the rise and fall of many great things. From Donald Trump to Harambe memes and everything in between, 2016 was a year of transition.

And so too was it for me a year of transition. A year where I said goodbye to a great many things yet at the same time ushering in a new chapter in the book of Destery. Which is not a real book because if it was, it would be full of poop jokes and terrible humor.

So much like the years before me, in addition to listing my accomplishments throughout this year, I’ll follow it up with what I’d like to see achieved in 2017 and hopefully at the end of it, I can look back and say “man this year didn’t suck, thats amazing! How new!”

1. YouTube
2016 was one of the most eye opening and easily the most financially lucrative years on YouTube I’ve ever had. this year alone I gained almost 250,000 subscribers, almost doubling what I gained last year, And finally hitting that magical One million subscriber mark that people have been long anticipating. And while numbers don’t truly mean that much to me, I’d be lying if I said I wasn’t extremely proud of how far I’ve come. That said, this year also was a huge year of transition on YouTube for me. I ceased making WTF NEWS on Shane’s channel and started up WTF FIVE, a show that was definitely out of my comfort zone when I first started it; but I’m glad I took the risk as it’s taught me a lot about myself in the process of the show’s growth, now reaching almost 1 Million people per video.
WTF NEWS was moved to my Capndesdes, which has quickly became the #1 most viewed show on my channel. In addition, i stopped doing the Recap vlogs and brought back the Destery watch vlogs which I believe feels a lot more personal and allows me to have sort of a conversation with people rather than just talk about my life that really isn’t all that exciting anyways. I stopped doing the Monthly favorite videos, I stopped doing Real Ass Talk videos, I stopped streaming on twitch, I closed down my MineCraft server, and I haven’t posted a QNA in over a year, but regardless, true fans and viewers have still stuck by my side, eager for whatever random shit I dish out next.
In the next year I hope to continue posting my WTF NEWS videos, Destery Watch vlogs, random skits, as well as bring back the Capndesdes QNA videos as I greatly enjoyed doing them.

2. EXPANDING
With all the phasing out of older video series, many people began wondering: what the hell is destery doing with his time anyways? And while YouTube will always be a main passion and income source for me, 2016 proved to be the first year where I tried expanding my reach in more than just the digital world. So in order to cut back even more on the amount of time I spend per week doing YouTube, I hired two editors this last year who have been a tremendous help to me in allowing myself more time to focus on more pressing concerns than spending 5 fucking hours editing a video. And With the free time gained from the help of my editors, I was able to focus on something I’ve always wanted to do: make a board game.
And Though the game is still very much in it’s alpha phase, I’ve recently also hired two artists who are already taking the game from just an idea into a magnificent work of art that has inspired me even more to have it released.
I can’t wait for you guys to play it and remark on just how fucking nerdy I am that one of my dreams in life was to make a board game.

3. STEPPING OUT OF MY HOBBIT HOLE
So one of my resolutions for last year was to travel. To see more than just the worlds and places I see on TV and to actually venture into the scary unknown abyss known as “outside”. Well this year I’m happy to report that I travelled a metric fuck ton. Starting with going to Tennessee last January; then to Las Vegas in March, then exploring cool new places here in Portland, visiting my mom and Nathan in Idaho twice on a long and terrible car ride, Then to The land which I promised I would never return in Orlando Florida, then to a weekend in Seattle, and then again to Tennessee. This year was by far the most I’ve ever travelled and I’m extremely proud that I was able to leave my comfort zone which is really just my apartment filled with cats and video games, to embark on a quest to see more of the world.

4. BODY IMAGE
SO fun fact - I’ve never really thought very highly of myself. Even if I have all of these accomplishments and useless to mediocre talents like making transformer sounds with my mouth, I still have a hard time with my own self worth and image. So this last year I vowed to test myself. To push myself harder than I ever have before both mentally and physically. And though I still look like a sad sack of uncooked chicken, My increasing desire to work out, eat healthy, and ice skate rigorously has only been briefly halted this year by my own doubts and the evil addicting nature of Taco Bell. I know that this year I can prove to myself even more that I am a Warrior and I will not give in to doubt or 2 dollar chicken burritos.

So those were my accomplishments I felt were worth noting this year, And as I venture forth into the next year, I have but one resolution.
STOP BEING LAZY. The largest hurdle between me and greatness is the limitations I set in my own mind And the inability to act on opportunity simply because it requires work. Nothing is simply achieved. Everything requires work - and my goal this year to be someone who constantly strives to work their hardest. Not only for my fans and people who look up to me, but to myself as well. When you’re sad and feeling helpless, many times, it’s hard to dig yourself out of the hole you’ve made. But inaction is greater a crime than trying and failing. Inaction leads to settling. Settling leads to regret, and regret leads to a mundane life. And if theres one thing I know, I will never settle for the mundane. Because the weird - The strange. The people who try something they’ve never done, or attempt something that frightens them - Those are the people who change the world.

Hayes Grier- Barbecue

(I wrote this maybe a year ago and it’s been sitting in my notes, collecting dust, so I figured I may as well post it. Feedback is greatly appreciated. TBH my New Years Resolution is to get better at writing so constructive criticism would be fantastic. I’m a hard-core Hayes girl and I have maybe 100+ imagines I’ve written and unpublished fanfiction so like for more! Happy New Year! :)

Age 22

“Hey!” Janie, Nash’s fiancé gushed as she opened the front door.

I hugged her before stepping into the waving at the loiters in the hall before walking into the family room.

“Hey, dude!” Johnson exclaimed as they did their ‘bro’ handshake.

“What’s been up?” Hayes asked, sitting on the couch next to this brother.

I said hello to a few faces before making my way to the kitchen.

“Hadley!” Jessica, Cameron wife called, waving me over to them.

“Where’s my baby?” I asked, referring to her two year old son, Mitchell.

“I think he’s out back with a few of the guys.” She guessed, pointing to the sliding door.

“I’m going to kidnap him.” I joked, walking out the open door.

“Had!” He yelled, looking up from the pool.

“Hi, baby boy!” I cooed as he ran up to me.

I grabbed a towel off the pool chair catching him with it. He giggled as I rubbed him with the cloth, drying him.

I wrapped him in the towel, setting him on my hip, walking back into the house.

“That was fast.” Jess laughed, smiling at her son.

Mitchell set his head on my shoulder, hugging my neck.

“So how are you two feeling after what happened with Emmi?” Mahogany asked, leaning against the counter, sipping her wine.

“I mean it sucked because I thought we were finally getting somewhere, but the doctors said there was something off with her chromosomes and she wouldn’t live past her first birthday.” I informed, happy with myself that I wasn’t crying, “But I’m occupying myself with babysitting.”

“Speaking of babysitting, how about tomorrow?” Hanna, Johnson’s girlfriend asked me.

“Definitely.” I responded, snuggling the two years old further into my side.

She smiled at me before announcing dinner was ready.

“I’ll tell the boys.” I volunteered, setting Mitch down.

I walked into the main room where the boys were talking about some game last night. I announced dinner, earning a gentle roar of excitement as everyone stood up to migrate toward the kitchen.

“Hads, come here.” Hayes said, grabbing my hand, leading me into the hallway.

“Yeah?” I questioned when the last person excited the narrow area.

“I think we should tell them.” He informed, putting his hands on my stomach.

“One more week then I’ll be at four months then I’ll let you tell them.” I compromised.

He sighed, nodding, “This baby will be the one.”

I nodded, wrapping my arms around the back of his neck, hugging him.

“I love you.”

“I love you too.” I responded.

“Guys, dinner!”

We broke apart, walking back into the living room.

“Had, can you sit next to me?” Mitch asked, cocking his head to the side.

“Of course, baby boy.” I laughed, sitting in the chair I always sat in next to his booster seat.

Hayes sat next to me after a few minutes, setting my plate in front of me.

*Hayes*

“So, how are you guys doing?” Nash asked, referring to Hadley and I.

“Really good, actually. She’s learning to cope, and I guess I am as well.”

He nodded, “Are you guys planning on having more children?”

I nodded, “Definitely. We’ve decided to try for one more then if that doesn’t work we’re going to adopt.”

“She wants to be a mom so bad.” Johnson said, looking at Hads.

“It’ll happen whether she carries it or not.” I grinned.

They nodded, breaking into smaller conversations.

I turned my attention to what Janie and Had we’re talking about.

“We were thinking about buying a large property with a ton of land.” Had said.

“Hey, don’t put words into my mouth.” I joked.

*Hadley*

“Had, can you cut this for me?” Anne asked from across the table.

I looked at Johnson and Hanna, basically asking for permission.

She laughed, “Go for it.”

I stood up, grabbing a butter knife, cutting small shapes out of her fruit.

“Look, momma, it’s a star!” She exclaimed, holding the small bit of apple up at her mom.

“You’re so good with kids.” Hanna said, practically amazed.

I laughed, sitting back down.

Hayes put his hands on my knee, rubbing it.

“We should tell them.” He whispered.

“No, wait for four months.” I replied.

“Tell us what?” Cam asked, raising an eyebrow.

He gave me puppy dog eyes, but I shook my head.

“Nothing.” Hayes huffed, slumping back in his chair, sticking out his bottom lip.

“Are you pouting right now?” I laughed.

“Please?” He begged.

“Tell us!” Gilinsky yelled, gaining the attention of everyone at the table.

“We don’t have anything to say!” I lied, laughing.

*Hayes* After Dinner

“She’s pregnant isn’t she?” Nash asked, causing me to look up.

I nodded. “But she’s worried she going to miscarry this one again, so she won’t tell anyone.” I sighed, sipping my beer.

“It’s crazy how the people who deserve it most don’t get it.”

I nodded.

He looked at me, raising an eyebrow, “Since when do you drink?”

I laughed, “Dude, I drink all the time.”

“No, you don’t.”

“Yes, I do!”

He laughed, “Whatever.”

“Game time!” Matt cheered, sitting next to me. “Since when do you drink?”

“That’s what I said!” Nash exclaimed, causing me to roll my eyes, and take another swig from my beer.

Excuse my ignorance, but why do you not think president Obama is doing an okay job? It's my understanding that he tried to do everything he set out to do but he kept being voted against by the house and Senate.

You should definitely check out my Obama tag, but here are a few reasons why Obama is no friend to the working class or oppressed peoples, not here and not anywhere:

On Immigration

  • ICE has deported over a million people since 2009. Deportation rates are rising every year, and are currently approaching 400,000. (ACLU 8/18/11) Despite the fact that unauthorized immigration rates are sinking (Pew 9/1/10), Border Patrol has more agents than it’s ever had before (White House 5/2011) and ICE’s budget has risen to nearly $6 billion. Despite a stated policy of targeting high-level criminals, the majority of those deported under ICE’s “Secure Communities” program have only misdemeanor convictions or no conviction at all. (Deportation Nation 5/25/11)
  • The Department of Homeland Security’s has rescinded the Secure Communities agreement memos with various jurisdictions and announced that compliance with the program is mandatory, despite legislation to the contrary. (IPC 11/29/11Restore Fairness 8/8/11)
  • The vast majority of ICE detainees have no access to counsel. (ABA 2/2010) Half of ICE detainees are kept in private prisons (ACLU 11/1/11); detainees in both private and public detention centers are subject to sexual abuse (ACLU), physical abuse and lack of medical care (ACLU 10/24/11), lack of access to counsel (ACLU 11/17/11ABA 2/2010)
  • DHS has denied people entry into the United States due to mental illness; one Canadian was turned away at the border due to a suicide attempt five years prior. (CBC 9/9/11)
  • At least 5,100 children are in foster care in the United States because their parents were deported. If current deportation trends continue, this number could rise to 15,000 in the next five years. (ARC 11/2011Frontline 11/3/11)

On Israel/Palestine

  • Despite his stated support for a two-state solution, Obama has opposed Palestine’s UN bid for statehood, and has declared that, if the issue is brought to the UN Security Council, the United States will veto it. (Guardian 9/21/11). When Palestine was given membership in UNESCO, the United States canceled UNESCO funding. (Reuters 11/2/11) Similarly, though Obama makes public statements deriding the continued advance of Israeli settlements in Palestinian territory, the US vetoed a UN resolution (sponsored by 130 nations, including all other members of the Security Council) opposing the settlements. (Christian Science Monitor 2/18/11)
  • The Obama administration dropped its attempts to persuade Israel to halt construction of settlements in Palestinian territory and allowed the moratorium on construction to expire, a serious problem not just morally but diplomatically, as Palestinian authorities have refused to engage in direct talks as long as Israel was building on lands seized from Palestine in 1967. (Reuters via MSNBCAP via Huffington Post, both 12/7/10)

On Military and Foreign Policy (Imperialism)

  • Obama’s State Department secretly directed its diplomats to spy on the United Nations, directing them to uncover computer passwords, credit card numbers, and biometric data. Similar directives ordered embassy staff in oil-rich African countries to conduct military surveillance and embassy staff in the Middle East to seek out travel plans of leaders in the Palestinian Authority. (Guardian 11/28/10)
  • Under the Obama administration, use of unmanned drones in military raids has severely increased—of the 309 known strikes, all but 52 took place after Obama took office. The exact number of people killed is not known (publicly at least), but the Bureau of Investigative Journalism places estimates between 2,373 and 2,997; at least 391 and possibly as many as 780 were civilians, including 175 children. These figures are based largely on media reports; in most cases, the actual identities of the victims are unknown, and as such there is the real possibility that a large number of “alleged militants” are actually civilians. (BIJ 8/10/11) The bulk of drone attacks have been in Pakistan, but the U.S. has also used the weapons in Afghanistan, Iraq, Pakistan, Libya, and Somalia. (Independent 7/1/11) A State Department legal adviser said it was “the considered view of this administration” that American drone attacks abroad constitute “self-defense”. (Wired 3/26/10)
  • In September, Muslim cleric Anwar al-Awlaki, an American citizen, was killed in a targeted assassination on Barack Obama’s explicit orders due to alleged al-Qaeda ties. (NYT 10/1/11) Obama’s Justice Department argued in court, after Awlaki was placed on the list but long before he was killed, that the President has the authority to order the assassination of American citizens deemed a threat without a trial or even charges, and that this authority is not subject to judicial review. (ACLU 11/8/10)
  • After the scheduled military pullout from Iraq at the end of the year, the State Department will continue to employ 5,000 private security contractors in the country. (ABC 10/21/11), including the controversial company DynCorp (NPR 12/27/11)
  • During the “limited humanitarian intervention” (Yahoo 3/23/11) in Libya, the U.S. dropped dozens of bombs on the nation, even after the rebels succeeded in taking the capital. (Wired 10/20/11) American-backed anti-Gaddafi forces have been implicated in numerous human rights abuses, including indiscriminate arrests of sub-Saharan African nationals, torture and sexual assault of detainees (Amnesty International 10/2011), and a mass execution of Gadaffi loyalists at a hotel in Sirte (Human Rights Watch 10/23/11); there are reports that black Libyans are being lynched by rebel forces. (Liberation 8/30/11) The National Transitional Council’s interim leader announced a desire to return to traditional law and repeal the nation’s divorce laws. (Radio Netherlands 10/24/11)
  • Obama has resumed the war in Somalia. In addition to the aforementioned drone strikes, the U.S. is giving millions of dollars to Somali troops described by reporters as “ineffective”. The U.S. is also giving support to Ugandan, Kenyan, and Ethiopian military troops to fight in Somalia. (Washington Post 11/24/11)
  • In 2009, the United States used a cluster bomb against an alleged al-Qaeda training camp; the attack is estimated to have killed 41 civilians. (Amnesty International 6/4/10) The United States is one of few industrialized nations not to have signed the Convention on Cluster Munitions. (CCM) The Obama administration has continued Bush’s refusal to sign the Mine Ban Treaty. (AP via MSNBC 11/24/09)
  • The Obama administration shipped arms to Saudi Arabia to quell a rebellion in North Yemen, while publicly claiming to be uninvolved. (Salon 12/9/10) When larger masses of Yemenis began protesting the long-standing rule of President Ali Abdullah Saleh, the Obama administration supported Saleh; after it became clear that the movement against Saleh was too broad, the White House became involved in the negotiations to remove Saleh peacefully (Reuters 4/4/11), all while continuing its drone war against alleged Yemeni terrorists. (NYT 6/9/11) When Saleh finally stepped down, Obama praised the transfer of power as “a new beginning” (White House 11/23/11), despite continued protests in the country against the immunity from prosecution Saleh received in the power transfer agreement. (Guardian 11/23/11)
  • The Obama administration revived a Rumsfeld plan to equip ICBMs with conventional warheads—a plan that even the Bush administration eventually scrapped because it was too dangerous. (NYTWired, 4/23/10)
  • In 2010, the State Department hired Xe services, better known as Blackwater, to provide security at new U.S. consulates in Afghanistan. (Washington Post 6/21/10) Nearly simultaneously, Xe was given a contract to provide security at CIA bases in Afghanistan and other undisclosed countries. (Washington Post 6/23/10)
  • The Department of Defense sold $60 billion worth of arms to Saudi Arabia in 2010, including 84 F-15s, 190 helicopters, and massive amounts of bombs and missiles. (Washington Times 11/19/10)
  • The United States has expanded its clandestine presence in Middle East and nearby countries, friend and foe, such as Iran, Saudi Arabia, and Somalia. This new order makes it clear that such operations are intended to be long-term. (NYT 5/24/10)
  • The Obama administration worked out an agreement with Afghanistan that would keep U.S. troops in the country until 2024. (Telegraph 8/19/11)
  • According to a CIA lawyer involved in the Bush-Obama transition, the incoming administration sought to do away with the torture program but keep virtually every other aspect of Bush’s CIA programs. (Frontline via Raw Story 9/1/11)

On Domestic Spying, Black Site Prisons, and Civil Liberties

  • In an interview on America’s Most Wanted, President Obama expressed support for a national database of DNA samples taken from arrestees, regardless of whether they are convicted, equivocating the practice with taking mugshots. (LA Times 4/9/10)
  • In a statement coinciding with the release of Bush-era memos from the Office of Legal Counsel regarding torture programs, Obama promised that agents who had been involved in torture would not be prosecuted, saying “This is a time for reflection, not retribution.” (White House 4/16/09) The administration has also declined to prosecute CIA officials who destroyed dozens of videos of agents torturing suspected terrorists. (NYT 11/9/10) When a Spanish human rights group called for Spain’s National Court to prosecute several Bush officials including Alberto Gonzales and John Yoo, Obama joined with Republican officials in secretly pressuring Spain to circumvent the Spanish legal system and drop the charges. (Mother Jones 12/1/10)
  • Despite campaign promises to end the Bush administration’s “extraordinary rendition” program, whereby individuals were kidnapped without charges, taken to secret locations on foreign soil, and tortured, the Obama administration has largely kept the program in place, turning prisoners over to foreign countries and relying on “assurances” from those nations that the prisoners will not be tortured. (LA Times 2/1/09NYT 8/24/09Pro Publica 9/6/11) The administration has consistently invoked “state secrets” privileges and national security concerns to deny rendition survivors any hope of legal justice. (ACLU 11/15/11)
  • Similarly, Obama’s DOJ has sought to block litigation against the NSA over warrantless wiretapping, continuing the Bush administration’s invoking of “state secrets” (a practice which Obama himself opposed on the campaign trail). Obama’s administration, however, has gone beyond Bush’s argument to a disturbing new level, with the unprecedented claim that the federal government is categorically immune from litigation regarding illegal spying. (Salon 4/6/09EFF 4/7/09)
  • Obama’s DOJ has also argued to the Supreme Court that the government should be able to attach GPS devices to suspects’ cars without warrants. (Wired 6/27/11)
  • The Obama administration denied UN investigators access to Guantanamo prisoners and information on secret prisons. (Washington Post 7/23/09)
  • A terrorism strategy released by the White House recommends increasing the monitoring of “extremism” on social networking sites like Facebook and Twitter. (CNET 8/3/11) The Justice Department is seeking to require ISP’s and cell phone companies to hold on to records for significant periods of time to aid law enforcement. (Raw Story 1/25/11)
  • Obama’s Department of Justice has issued new guidelines on the use of Miranda warnings in interrogation of terrorism suspects, but has refused to make these guidelines public, further clouding an already murky subject. (Salon 1/19/11)
  • The Department of Defense released a list of names of prisoners at the Bagram prison, where allegations of torture and abuse have been raised for years. However, the list did not contain such important information as length of detention, location of capture, or national origin (BBC 1/16/10), information which the Obama administration has fought hard to keep secret. (TPR 10/26/10) The administration has opened a second prison at Bagram, referred to by former inmates as “Tor Jail” or “Black Jail”; the DoD refuses to acknowledge that this prison even exists. (BBC 4/15/105/11/10)
  • The Pentagon has stated that it has the right to react to hackers with military force “when warranted.” (Reuters 11/15/11)
  • In a memo to Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, President Obama personally waived portions of a Bush-era law that forbade providing military assistance to countries known to recruit child soldiers, in order to provide military aid to Chad, Sudan, Yemen, and the Democratic Republic of the Congo. (Foreign Policy 10/26/10White House 10/25/10)
  • Obama’s FBI has raided homes and offices of anti-war activists and labor organizers on pretexts of connections to “foreign terrorist organizations.” (Democracy Now 9/27/10Washington Post 6/13/11)
  • President Obama refused to release photos depicting abuse against detainees in Iraq and Afghanistan in violation of a Freedom of Information Act request, claiming that doing so would inflame terrorists against the United States. (ABC 5/13/09)
  • Obama declared that some Guantanamo detainees would be held indefinitely without trial, claiming that such prisoners “cannot be prosecuted for past crimes, but … nonetheless pose a threat to the security of the United States.” (Washington Post 5/22/09) The following year, his Justice Department argued in court that a ruling requiring the government to give Guantanamo prisoners their habeas corpus rights did not apply to prisoners at Bagram; a District Court judge rejected this argument, but an appeals court reversed the ruling, essentially granting the DOD power to imprison people indefinitely so long as the prison is in a war zone. (Salon 5/21/10)
  • Part of Obama’s campaign was focused on curtailing the more egregious portions of the PATRIOT Act, but he signed a one-year extension of the act in 2010 and a four-year extension in 2011, neither with any changes. (Christian Science Monitor 3/1/10Huffington Post 5/27/11)
  • An FBI policy made public after an FOIA request reveals that the agency keeps people on a terrorism watch list even if they have been cleared of any charges. (NYT 9/27/11)
  • TSA is performing unannounced security screenings, including pat-downs, not just at airports but train stations, ferries, and bus terminals. They have begun working in tandem with ICE, predictably targeting people of color, through the “VIPR” program (Visible Intermodal Prevention and Response). (Mother Jones 6/20/11) In San Diego, a joint TSA-ICE Trolley raid led to 21 arrests, including the deportation of three teenagers on their way to school. (Union-Tribune 5/23/09)

On Law Enforcement

  • In 2009, the ATF began a secret program called “Operation Fast and Furious” in which illegal firearms were deliberately allowed to fall into the hands of drug cartel members in Mexico in an attempt to reach the higher members of the cartels. The program was kept secret from both the American public and the Mexican government. A gun purchased in the program killed a Border Patrol officer in late 2010. U.S. attorneys denied the rumors of the program in the announcement of a series of arrests, but it was eventually made public by a disgruntled ATF officer who went to Congress. (Washington Post 7/25/11) Attorney General Eric Holder denied knowledge of the program, but had been receiving regular briefings on the subject since at least July of 2010. (CBS 10/3/11)
  • The DEA is involved in laundering millions of dollars in drug cartel money to further their investigation of cartel leaders; the practice is understandably controversial, and has seen little apparent success. (NYT 12/3/11)

On Wall Street and Labor (Class Struggle)

  • Obama has claimed that he “understand[s] the frustration” fueling the Occupy Wall Street movement (ABC 10/10/11), and the Democratic Party has made advances toward appropriating the movement. (NYT 10/10/11) Obama’s tepid statements of not-quite-support are understandable considering that his campaign in both 2008 (Open Secret) and 2012 (LA Times 7/22/11Washington Post 10/19/11) have received massive funding from Wall Street firms; he has received more donations from the securities and investment industry than any other candidate in the past 20 years. (Influence Explorer through Q2 2011) Any hope that he might support the movement were dashed when his Department of Homeland Security aided local governments in suppressing and evicting protesters. (Guardian 11/25/11)
  • Obama’s first appointed director to the National Economic Council, Larry Summers, has had a long-standing close relationship with Wall Street. In 2008 alone, Summers was paid $5.7 million for working one day a week at the hedge fund D.E. Shaw, and receivied $2.7 million in speaking fees from companies such as Goldman Sachs, Citigroup, Lehman Brothers, and Merrill Lynch. (Washington Post 4/6/09) In 2000, when California Governor Gray Davis contacted the federal authorities with concerns that Enron was manipulating the market, Summers (who at that time was Treasury Secretary under President Clinton) joined Alan Greespan and, in one meeting, Enron CEO Ken Lay to urge Davis to deregulate California energy companies, remove caps on consumer prices, and relax environmental regulations. (The Daily Beast 11/12/08) Obama initially considered nominating Summers for Treasury Secretary, but ultimately decided to appoint him head of the NEC, which would not require Senate confirmation. (Salon 4/4/09)
  • When Summers stepped down from his post, Obama replaced him with Gene Sperling, who had already held the position for several years under Clinton. During this previous term as NEC director, Sperling was a chief negotiator on the Financial Modernization Act (NARA 1999), more commonly known as Gramm-Leach-Bliley. GLB repealed portions of the Glass-Steagall Act that had forbidden an institution from operating as any combination of investment bank, commercial bank, and insurance company. (LOC 11/2/99) On the campaign trail, Obama placed a great deal of the blame for the current recession on this repeal, but this rhetoric has all but disappeared from his public statements (NYT 11/12/09), and his appointment of the very negotiator responsible as his top economic adviser paints a grim picture for those who seek to have Glass-Steagall restored.
  • Obama’s Treasury Secretary Tim Geithner has his own host of controversies. The issues range from failure to pay $35,000 in taxes between 2001 and 2004 (Washington Times 1/14/09) to his role in the AIG bonus scandal in 2009. That year, Geithner and Larry Summers lobbied then-Senate Banking Committee Chairman Christopher Dodd to alter an amendment in the stimulus bill. The original amendment limited bonuses and so-called “golden parachutes” at companies receiving federal bailout money; at the request of Summers and Geithner, Dodd added a loophole exempting previously-existing bonus contracts from being affected. (CNN 3/19/09) AIG, a recipient of over $170 billion in bailout money, soon announced a plan to pay $165 million in executive bonuses. (NYT 3/14/09) Geithner himself was involved in AIG’s bailout while he was president of the New York Federal Reserve, as well as the bailout of Citigroup, both in 2008. (NYT 11/24/08)
  • While president of the New York Fed, Geithner discouraged the New York Attorney General from pursuing criminal action against AIG executives involved in the company’s collapse (NYT 4/14/11); that same attitude characterizes the Obama administration’s approach to prosecution. The Justice Department has declined to prosecute executives at several companies; they dropped their investigation against the former CEO of Countrywide Financial, one of the country’s biggest mortgage lenders (NYT 2/19/11), and have decided not to prosecute Washington Mutual executives for their part in the biggest bank failure in American history.(Bloomberg 8/5/11) Federal prosecution for financial institution fraud is at a 20-year low. (Huffington Post 11/15/11)
  • When Wisconsin governor Scott Walker attacked public sector unions in the state, seeking to strip them of their right to collective bargaining, Obama spoke out against the attacks, but made no action to help the workers, refusing to even visit Wisconsin (in contradiction to a campaign promise to “walk on that picket line” when bargaining rights came under fire). (Huffington Post 2/24/11) When the Democratic Party begin mobilizing to support the Wisconsin workers, Obama’s White House staff reined them in. (NYT 3/3/11)
  • Obama and the Department of Labor sat on a review of child farm labor laws for several months, well past the February 2011 deadline for review and public comment; the rules were finally made public in September. In that time, two 17-year-old boys were critically injured on a farm in Oklahoma, and two 14-year-old girls were electrocuted and killed on a Monsanto farm in Illinois. (Huffington Post 8/15/11DOL 10/31/11)
  • The Obama White House was closely involved in a deal awarding solar panel manufacturer Solyndra LLC a half-billion-dollar federal loan (ABC 9/13/11), and Obama praised the company as an example of the success of his economic policies; the company filed for bankruptcy in August and laid off over a thousand workers. (AP via Syracuse Post-Standard 8/31/11) It was later revealed that Solyndra had run out of money and defaulted; the Department of Energy restructured the loan in an attempt to keep the company solvent. (Wall Street Journal 9/28/11) A decades-long Treasury official testified that he has “never seen” a loan agreement be restructured like Solyndra’s. (Washington Examiner 10/14/11) When another company given a loan under the same program received negative press, the Department of Energy altered old press releases to remove that company’s name. (CNBC 10/19/11) When it became clear in 2010 that Solyndra would lay off workers, the Obama administration asked the company to delay the announcement until after the midterm elections on November 2; the company agreed, and made the announcement on November 3. (Washington Post 11/15/11)
  • The administration has boasted of its foreclosure prevention program, but the foreclosure rate is still increasing. (AP via NPR 11/10/11) The foreclosure program has had little oversight and no transparency. Mortgage companies are being paid millions of dollars in taxpayer money, but audit results are not being made public, and there is evidence that the mortgage companies are performing the same abuses as always without any consequences. (Pro Publica 10/4/11) Obama’s Home Affordable Modification Program (HAMP) was based on an industry plan, and deliberately crafter its language to exlude millions of homeowners who were seen as undeserving. The administration was dismissive of proposals to allow bankruptcy judges to lower mortgage payments on primary residences a prohibition not applied to any other type of debt and which Obama himself opposed on the campaign trail. (Pro Publica 2/4/11)
  • Shortly after the mortgage audits were made public, the Obama administration rolled out a new plan to lower mortgage payments for homeowners in need. But the new plan would make the taxpayer liable for refinanced loans; banks would be immune to liability. Furthermore, the plan does nothing to address the fact that most of these mortgages are for significantly more money than the homes are actually worth, which experts say is the core problem in the housing crisis. (Huffington Post 10/24/11)
  • When some states notified the Treasury of their intention to use money from the Hardest Hit Fund (a program under TARP intended to help homeowners in the states hit worst by unemployment and the housing market crisis) on legal aid groups that help individual homeowners, the Treasury told these states that doing so would violate TARP rules—a decision they reached after consulting with a law firm that represents several large banks and lending institutions. (The Nation 12/9/10)
  • A 2011 audit has revealed that the Federal Reserve is “riddled” with serious conflicts of interest. A number of high-ranking Fed officials have strong ties to the financial industry, and have used the Fed to award their companies emergency loans. The Fed’s conflict of interest rules have been kept secret, as well as waivers to the rules; the information was only brought to light under a GAO audit. (Senate 10/19/11)
  • Wall Street is making more money under Obama than it ever did under Bush. (Washington Post 11/6/11) The government has invested with banks to the tune of billions of taxpayer dollars, while U.S. poverty rates are higher than ever. (CBS 9/13/11)
  • Obama signed an executive order announcing his commitment to “review” regulations on business, characterizing the current regulatory framework as “redundant” and “excessively burdensome” on businesses. (NYTWhite House, both 1/18/11) Within days, OSHA began withdrawing a number of proposed rules, including a strengthening of workplace noise regulations and a rule to provide a space on employer injury and illness forms to record musculoskeletal disorders. (The Hill 1/30/11)
  • Obama publicly espoused rhetoric that seemed to endorse made-in-America manufacturing policies, but opposed Congressional attempts at including such policies in legislation, and worked in active opposition by pushing trade deals with South Korea, which would deal a significant blow to the American auto industry and provide material support to Korean firms with serious labor rights problems. (Alternet 8/26/10)

On Healthcare

  • The Obama administration lauds the healthcare plan as a major success, but it was compromised from the start. Obama made back-room deals with the private medical industry to block the public option he claimed to support. (HuffPo 3/16/10NYT 8/13/09)
  • When the anti-choice Stupak amendment was removed from the final version of the bill that was passed in 2010, President Obama effectively reinstated it, banning women covered under the high-risk insurance pool program from using that insurance to access abortion services. (ACLU 7/15/10)
  • An analysis by the Physicians for a National Health Program concluded that the healthcare bill as passed will leave 23 million people uninsured while hundreds of billions of taxpayer dollars will be shoveled to private health insurance companies. (PNHP 3/22/10)
  • Obama’s Department of Health and Human Services granted waivers to thirty large, mostly private, employers, including McDonald’s and Jack in the Box, exempting them from requirements to provide coverage to their employees; the waivers leave nearly a million workers uninsured. (USA Today 10/7/10)
  • The Obama administration refused to release a list of health industry executives visiting the White House during negotiations over the healthcare bill, using an argument originated by George W. Bush that such documents were exempt from public disclosure laws, and contradicting campaign promises for transparency in healthcare negotiations. (LA Times 7/22/09)
  • During the 2011 debt ceiling negotiations, President Obama offered to inrease the Medicare eligibility age from 65 to 67 in exchange for Republican agreement to raise certain taxes. (Huffington Post 7/11/11) In addition to the obvious threat to public health this poses, it would lead to an increase in total health spending. (CBPP 8/23/11)
  • Obama sought to slash $300 to $500 billion in “entitlement spending”, including massive cuts to Medicare; he has said that “healthcare cuts” are required in any budget deal. (NYT 9/13/11)
  • The Obama administration has fought aggressively to buy a controversial smallpox drug from a company called Siga (owned by a longtime donor to the Democratic Party), despite concerns over both its necessity and its effectiveness. When Department of Health and Human Services officials balked at the company’s asking price, the government replaced the lead negotiator. When Siga was in danger of losing the contract, the government blocked other companies from bidding. The final agreement pays Siga significantly more than what government specialists considered a reasonable price. (LA Times 11/13/11)
  • Part of the healthcare bill required that employer-provided health insurance cover birth control. The Obama administration is seeking to allow a wide range of exemptions to this rule, allowing any religiously-affiliated employer to opt out. This would include a number of universities, hospitals, and clinics, and potentially leaving millions of women without access to birth control. (NYT 11/19/11)
  • Obama is joining House Republicans in seeking to modify a formula in the healthcare plan to count Social Security benefits as income, pushing a potential million Americans out of the Medicaid eligibility bracket each year. (Washington Times 11/24/11)
  • The Obama administration argued to the Supreme Court that hospitals and clinics cannot sue drug companies for discounts they are entitled to under federal law or for recompense after being overcharged. (NYT 1/9/11)
  • The administration rewrote the rules of the healthcare bill, removing coverage for end-of-life planning, apparently due to fears that an incoming Republican majority on Congress would use such language as political ammunition. (NYT ¼/11)
  • The Obama administration hired a former executive from WellPoint, the largest private insurance company in America, to “help implement” the new healthcare law. (Open Left 7/14/10)
  • Obama’s Department of Health and Human Services overruled the FDA and rejected a move to allow the morning-after pill to be sold without an age restriction. (Washington Post 12/7/11) Obama claims not to have been involved in the decision, but publicly supports it nonetheless. (NYT 12/8/11)

On the Environment

  • In 2010, President Obama appointed Islam Siddiqui as Chief Agriculture Negotiator. Prior to his appointment, Siddiqui was a vice president of CropLife America, a bioindustry organization representing, among others, DuPont, Monsanto, and Dow. (Huffington Post 3/18/10CLA) Siddiqui is a staunch supporter of GMO food; during an earlier stint in the Department of Agriculture, he pushed to allow GMO products to be labeled “organic”, and has lobbied for weaking international regulations on pesticide. (GMO Journal 5/6/10)
  • Obama’s USDA and FDA have released a position paper opposing labeling for genetically modified foods. The paper claims that such labels are “false, misleading, or deceptive,” saying that food labels should not “suggest or imply that GM/GE foods are in any way different from other foods.” (The Atlantic 4/26/10)
  • The Minerals Management Service (later reorganized into the Bureau of Ocean Energy Management, Regulation, and Enforcement) allowed dozens of oil companies, including BP, to drill in the Gulf of Mexico without permits or environmental assessments, and frequently overruled its own staff scientists who raised objections regarding the safety of offshore drilling both in the Gulf of Mexico and in Alaska. These fast-tracked approvals included the Deepwater Horizon rig, which exploded in 2010 and caused the largest oil spill in history. (NYT 5/14/10) The Department of the Interior was warned by the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration that it was dramatically underestimating the frequency of oil spills and the risk of a major spill, but the warnings were ignored and Obama announced plans to expand offshore oil drilling. (Huffington Post 7/3/10)
  • Charles Monnett, a high-ranking scientist with the OEMRE, published a 2006 paper documented the severe effects of climate change on Arctic polar bears and has raised awareness of the issue worldwide. When oil firms seeking to drill in the Arctic complained of environmental reviews causing delays in the permitting process, Monnett was put on suspension, silenced with a gag order, and forbidden from talking with his colleagues; Obama soon signed an order demanding that Arctic drilling permits be expedited. (Guardian 7/28/11)
  • This stifling of scientists’ concerns about environmental effects of government policies is wide-reaching: scientists in the Pacific Northwest were pressured to downplay the effects dams have on salmon populations, water quality experts were interfered with when studying the effects of development projects on the Everglades, biologists throughout the West have reported being pressures to ignore the effects of overgrazing, and calls for further study were ignored when the government decided to treat the Gulf oil spill with massive amounts of potentially toxic chemicals. (LA Times 7/10/10)
  • Obama’s Interior Department upheld a Bush-era rule that forbids use of the Endangered Species Act to combat greenhouse gas emissions. (Time 5/8/09)
  • The Obama administration argued in court to uphold a rule that lifted a restriction on the amount of public land a private company can use. Environmental groups had sued, saying it gave companies unlimited access to dump toxic waste on public land. (CBS 4/2/10)
  • When New York City and eight different states filed suit against a group of coal-burning utility companies to try to force them to reduce greenhouse gas emissions, Obama’s Justice Department argued to the Supreme Court against the lawsuit, siding with the utility companies. (WSJ 8/26/10)
  • Obama overruled the EPA and a unanimous panel of scientific advisers and canceled a proposed EPA regulation that sought to curb smog by restricting the production of ground-level ozone. (AP via Yahoo 9/2/11)
  • Obama’s Department of State has worked with Trans-Canada oil lobbyists to build an environmentally questionable pipeline from Alberta to Texas. Rather than providing oversight, the State Department has given the company support, even after Trans-Canada suggested dropping their request to pump oil at higher pressures than allowed, then reapplying for a waiver after the project is approved. (NYT 10/3/11) In October, Obama hired a former Trans-Canada lobbyist as a senior advisor to his re-election campaign. (Tar Sands Action 10/24/11)
  • The Obama administration has continued—and stepped up—Bush’s abuse of the White House Office of Information and Regulatory Affairs, turning what is supposed to be a regulatory research office into a tool for industries to lobby for looser environmental and safety rules. The Obama administration has changed 76% of rules submitted through OIRA, including a staggering 85% of EPA-related rules, for the benefit of industry. (Guardian 11/28/11)
  • The Obama administration is supporting genetically engineered agriculture in fifty wildlife refuges in violation of a lawsuit settlement with Public Employees for Environmental Responsibility (PEER). Peer calls the program a “joint effort with Monsanto … part of a White House pledge to double exports.” (Truthout 7/25/11)
  • Obama’s Department of the Interior has approved scores of seismic surveys and drilling operations in the Gulf of Mexico without permits required by the Marine Mammal Protection Act and the Endangered Species Act. (Center for Biological Diversity 5/14/10)

On Education

  • Obama’s “Race to the Top” competition for school grants continues the policies of No Child Left Behind, judging performance on test scores, pushing school closures as a viable reform method, and promoting charter schools at the expense of the public school system. (Democracy Now 3/5/10) The changes made by state school systems to compete in the program led 746 school principals in New York to sign a letter of protest against testing. (NYT 11/27/11)

On Taxes, Budget, and Social Services

  • Obama extended the Bush tax cuts as part of a deal with Congressional Republicans in 2010. In addition to tax cuts or freezes across the board, the deal includes a tax cut for the top 2% of earners, an estimated $120 billion over two years; and an estate tax exemption for property less than $10 million. (ABC 12/17/10)
  • The deal brokered by Obama and Boehner during the manufactured debt ceiling “crisis” is estimated to reduce the United States GDP by $241 billion and cost nearly two million jobs—and these estimates are for 2012 alone. (EPI 8/1/11) The President has argued that the crisis, in particular the meaningless S&P downgrade of the U.S. credit score, makes it necessary to cut funding to social security and Medicare—but not the defense budget. (Politico 8/9/11)
  • Obama revived a failed Bush commission on debt and packed it with officials who have made careers of trying to attack and dismantle social security. (AlterNet 3/28/10)
  • The White House is seeking to cut funding from a program that trains occupational nurses, doctors, and safety professionals, and researches ways to decrease job-related fatalities in the agriculture, logging, and fishing industries, where death rates range from 5 to 58 times the national average. (CPI 8/4/11)
  • Obama supported passage of a House bill drafted by Republicans that would eliminate a tax compliance rule for governmnent contractors and pay for it by reducing Medicaid eligibility. (TPM 10/25/11) He also supported a budget that would cut funding for the Low Income Home Energy Assistance Program in half, leaving millions without winter heat. (Christian Science Monitor 2/10/11)
  • The Obama administration supported a bill that would encourage public housing authorities to rely on private funding, and would decrease public funding with a goal of, as a National Housing Institute analysis put it, “getting the federal government out of the low-income affordable housing business.” (Washington Post 7/14/10NHI summer 2010)

On LGBTQIA rights

  • President Obama spent two years in opposition to the right of same-sex couples to marry before finally stepping back its policy and declaring it would not defend DOMA challenges in court. (ACLU 2/23/11) A spokesman for Obama said in 2010 that the president “does oppose same-sex marriage, but he supports equality for gay and lesbian couples” and that same-sex marriage is “an issue for the states.” (The Hill 8/5/10) Despite its declaration that it would no longer defend DOMA, it used the act later that year to deny immigration benefits to a married gay couple, deporting a man who was the primary caregiver to his AIDS-afflicted husband. (SF Gate 8/9/11)

On Transparency

  • One of Barack Obama’s major campaign issues was transparency; it is also turning out to be one of his major betrayals. Federal agencies denied more than 70,000 Freedom of Information Act requests under the “deliberative process” exemption (which Obama claimed to oppose) during the 2009 fiscal year alone; denials under all exemptions in the same time frame approached 500,000. These numbers represent a marked increase in both number and rate of denial from previous years, even though the number of FOIA requests actuallydecreased. (Huffington Post 3/16/10)
  • Despite campaign promises that he would protect and strengthen whistleblowers’ rights (Change.gov), Obama’s administration prosecuted more whistleblowers and alleged leaks in his first 18 months than any other president did in their entire administration. (NYT 6/11/10) His Justice Department reissued a Bush-era subpoena demanding aNew York Timeswriter reveal his source in an article on a bungled CIA job. This revival of the Bush administration’s prosecution stands in marked contrast to Obama’s “forward-looking” hands-off approach to prosecuting Bush officials for their wrongdoing. (Salon 4/29/10)
  • Breanna Manning, accused of leaking hundreds of thousands of diplomatic cables and documents to WikiLeaks, has been held in captivity since May of 2010; for almost a year of that time (AP via NYT 4/28/11), she was kept in solitary confinement and forced to sleep in the nude. President Obama defended her treatment (NYT 3/11/11), and the Department of Defense did not so much as set a hearing date until November, a full 18 months after Manning’s arrest. (NYT 11/21/11)[Private Manning was arrested under the name Bradley Manning; since the news reports linked here were published, however, it became known that Manning identifies as female and prefers the name Breanna.]
  • During his campaign, Obama promised that lobbyists and former lobbyists would not be allowed to work for the administration, and once in office he set up rules to that effect. However, his administration has repeatedly given waivers to lobbyists, allowing them to circumvent the rule; in many cases, not even a waiver has been issued. (Obameter) At least 15 high-power fundraisers for Obama’s 2012 campaign are unregistered lobbyists, including executives from Pfizer and Comcast. (NYT 10/27/11)
  • Obama’s Department of Justice is pushing to allow government agencies to outright lie about the existence of sensitive records. Instead of saying it can neither confirm nor deny whether it has a given record, the new rules would give the government the ability to say the record doesn’t exist. (Pro Publica 10/24/11)
  • When he took office, Obama announced he would publicly release White House visitor logs in the interests of transparency, but the actual logs released have serious gaps and omissions. (CPI 4/13/11) Furthermore, the administration has taken to simply meeting with lobbyists at a coffee shop across the street from the White House in order to avoid having records of the visits. (NYT 6/24/10)

Obama’s Crimes by themindislimitless:

These things are really not hard to find. Situate them in the context of the struggle against white supremacist heteropatriarchal imperialist capitalism and it’s really not hard to arrive at the conclusion that Obama is firmly acting on behalf of, as part of, the oppressor class.

Blind/Mute/Deaf Sterek Rec List

For the amazing Angsty who kindly answered this post (seriously you were the only one… but you would’ve been my first choice anyway ;)) and gave me the idea for my new rec list!! Sorry it’s a little later than supposed darling! Hope you enjoy ^^

Let’s start with : Blind!

Stiles -

Darkness Before Dawn by lanoirpapillon / 856 w. / T

Prompt:
“Due to the actions of the Alpha pack, Stiles goes blind. After the threat is gone, Stiles has to learn to live without his sight, and maybe Derek would make the perfect seeing-eye wolf.”

Put Me Next to an Open Window by orphan_account / 959 w. / T

Derek has always mentioned, in passing, the side effects of turning. There’s always the chance it won’t take and the person could die; after that, though, there is any number of other things that could complicate life further. He never expected one of those things to actually happen—they’re considered rare, those malfunctions—and certainly never to a member of his own pack.

Guide by peenwolf (hellafab) / 1511 w. / G

Stiles goes for an angry walk in the woods.

The Stories In His Skin by Sangwin / 1565 w. / Not Rated (I say T to M, depending on how sensitive you are. See warnings in fic.)

There is a scar on the side of Derek’s neck, towards the back, just along the curative. Stiles fingertips always manage to find it.

It’s Just Like You to Come and Go by wednesdays / 2465 w. / T

Stiles is blind. Derek may or may not like him a little lot.

I See You Better by theroguesgambit / 4685 w. / T

The Beacon Bean by SPCMRose / 5681 w. / Not Rated (I say G)

My dear Angsty, this one was part of Fluffy’s original rec list that started the fanfic war but it’s just too good to not add it to Blind!Stiles ;)

He’s blind. His mate is blind. Looks like Derek will be relying on his stunning personality to win him over. Derek is so screwed…

AKA: Derek’s back in Beacon Hills, and decides to head out for a coffee. Stiles is blind, and Derek’s found his mate.

Stiles is a baker~

Part 1 : Let Me Keep This One

“You’ve gone quiet again. Did I freak you out?” Stiles looked concerned and he was still holding on to Derek’s arm which had gone tense.

“No. I… no you didn’t,” Derek said in a rush. “I just didn’t expect to meet anyone. Like you,” he added.

“Fantastic and glorious?”

Derek bit his lip for a second, then said, “Well yes. Kind of.”

Cornerstone by Vendelin / 83738 w. / E

Suffering from PTSD, ex-Marine Derek Hale moves back to Beacon Hills to open a bookshop and find a calmer life. That’s where he meets Stiles, completely by accident. Stiles is talkative, charming and curious. Somehow, despite the fact that he’s blind, he’s able to read Derek like no one else.

And here are some WIP or Incomplete fics. BUT! Rest assured that if they’re in this rec, it means the words they’ve written so far are worth it ;)

I Made a Resolution by Dream_tempo / 5136 w. / T / WARNING - INCOMPLETE / ABANDONED

His senior year of high school, Stiles gets into a wolf-related accident and loses his sight. From there on, everything is different, no matter how much he wants it all to stay the same.

Oddly enough, the one person who seems to understand it all the most is Derek.

He Sees Me for Me by Karlarado / 23999 w. / Not Rated (for now, I say T) / WARNING - WIP

Derek and his adopted daughter move to Beacon Hills to try and start up a normal life. They meet Stiles in a park with his service/seeing-eye dog and while Malia bonds with the dog, Derek ends up bonding with Stiles.

Derek -

Sourwolf Inc by LadyFaceElena / 4665 w. / M

And then there was Stiles. Dear god was there Stiles. He tried to avoid the strangely scented human, but it seemed any time Derek needed anyone, Stiles was there. When he was shot and dying, when he was poisoned. Twice. When he was possessed and aching, and cold and lonely, and grieving. It was always Stiles.

Feeling You by secretfanboy / 6158 w. / T

Cirque de la Lune by LadyFaceElena / 21058 w. / E / Bring your tissues!!

Derek’s jaw tensed. “Why are you here, Stiles?” he repeated, his voice sounding powerful and angry. Not the timid, unsure Derek Stiles had known before.

Stiles felt something rush though him. “Because I had hope. That maybe my stupid act of letting you go really was the right thing? Because we’re strong now and I still want you. I dream of you every night, Derek, I swear to god. Every night. And every time I let myself sit still for a second I feel your lips on mine, your hands on me, and I promise you if you reject me tonight I’ll leave, but I’ll never get over you. I’ll pine for you until I die.”

Summoning A Mate by Saskia / 3603 w. / G / WARNING - INCOMPLETE / ABANDONED

Will Derek be able to fight his desire and reign in his wolf from claiming his mate? And what if Derek’s past isn’t finished with him yet?

And now : Mute

Stiles -

Smooth Sounds of Stiles by literaryoblivion / 957 w. / G

To Derek, Stiles’s incessant chatter is like one of those noise machines, and he tunes it out, until he doesn’t have to anymore.

Can’t Wait by RBnC / 2388 w. / G

It’s really a chance encounter. Derek wasn’t going to sign up to T. A. the stupid class but he needed the credits for FAFSA to kick in. He never would have guessed he’d meet the rambunctious ball of energy.

Ink’d by sourwulfur / 17089 w. / T / WARNING - INCOMPLETE / ABANDONED

Several years ago, most of the Hale family died in a fire. Since then, Laura and Derek Hale moved to New York; until recently. They moved back when Stiles Stilinski and Scott McCall were sixteen, opening a tattoo parlor that they owned and operated, named Ink’d. The Hales have always been known for being secretive; and, Stiles, well, he may just accidentally stumble upon their secrets.

Silence is Golden by werewolfsaz / Series / Total 1487 w. / G

Part 1 : Please Say Hello To Me

I’ve seen you in here hundreds of times, browsing through the DVD’s, picking up a few metal CD’s. I always wanted to say hello but I didn’t know how to approach you. I mean, I’m not much to look at and I have a terrible habit of rambling when I’m nervous. I can feel the babbling threatening to burst out everytime I see your lithe form with its long black hair, sharp green eyes and gentle face. I rush out of the store every day, kicking myself for not saying ‘hello’ this time. And every single time I promise myself that next time I’ll do it. I’ll walk up to you, smile winningly, say something witty and introduce myself. Yes, thats the plan. The very next time I see you.

Last but not least : Deaf

Stiles -

Explosions by Doteruna / 282 w. / T

This one is actually impressive in his level of feels versus the number of words…

One of Derek’s worst fears comes to life; someone attacks his pack in his own home.

I found this scribbled in the back of my math notebook and decided to post it.

Pretty Eyes by oddballgirl / 430 w. / G

Wild Tonic by officerstilinskihale / 11010 / M

Stiles nodded and smiled again, his teeth flashing brightly and he signed something again, before looking frustrated with himself.

“You’re welcome,” Derek told him, feeling a wave of relief when Stiles’ face brightened. That would’ve been awkward if Stiles hadn’t been trying to say thank you.

“I had a really good time, so yeah. I’m glad you came with me,” he said, feeling his face grow hot. Derek wasn’t usually like this. He wasn’t confident. Sure, he had the looks and he could flirt shamelessly when he got hit on, but he always got shy around the people he genuinely liked, not that there was too many of those.

But Stiles didn’t let him dwell on that. He gripped Derek’s arm, grinned cheekily and pointed at himself before lifting two fingers. It took a while for Derek to get it but when he did, he couldn’t stop a smile from spreading across his face.

Me too.

Stiles decides to learn sign language so he can communicate better with Derek and he ends up using it to communicate his feelings for him.

Laughter is the Best Medicine by literaryoblivion / 4432 w. / T

He hasn’t always been deaf.

Although, sometimes, he wishes he was. Mainly because he knows what he’s missing. He remembers what the rustle of the wind in the trees sounds like, remembers what kids playing in the playground sounded like, what laughter sounded like.

He misses it. A lot.

Through the Silence, Hold onto Me. by Inkforwords / 5040 w. / T

The pack has a run-in with a witch and while the spell that was cast on Stiles had thankfully worn off after her gruesome and timely demise, the spell that got Derek hasn’t seemed to. Or at least there are some lingering side effects. Derek is, for the time being deaf and will only let Stiles get remotely close to him when he’s upset.

Speak to Me by Ember / 9168 w. / T

Derek became deaf from the fire that took his family long ago, and has refused to speak since. But when he is forced to speak in the court case of the woman who betrayed him long ago, he begrudgingly accepts the help of a newly graduated speech pathologist. Stiles, however, is about to teach a whole lot more.

Part 1 : Just Let Go

And then Derek’s warm, strong arm came round his middle and held him, grounding him, bringing him back to the present. He smelled musty like sex and cologne, and his chest pressed against Stiles’ back was cold and sweaty. But it was more comfort than Stiles had ever felt in his life. Derek pressed a kiss to the back of Stiles’ head and just that little gesture told Stiles it was okay to just let go. To be in the moment, and close his eyes and just… let go.

Soledadgeek-

This is a blog post that’s incredibly confusing and painful for me to write.

Yesterday morning, Josh forwarded me a tweet that said:

TIL: Max Temkin, co-creator of Cards Against Humanity, raped a friend of my friend while attending Goucher College. I don’t support CAH.

We assumed this was someone making a tasteless joke, and I replied to tell him that it wasn’t funny. But after some more digging, I found a Facebook post from a girl I knew in college accusing me of sexually assaulting her, and urging people to boycott Cards Against Humanity.

This is totally, patently false. I have never sexually assaulted anyone, or previously been accused of any kind of assault.

I had a really brief relationship with this girl in college; her dorm room was next to mine, and after a few evenings staying up talking all night, we made out. We spent a few nights in each others’ rooms, but we never had sex and neither of us pressured the other into doing anything we weren’t comfortable with. After a few nights, I broke things off in the cowardly way that 19-year-old guys do, and I just stopped returning her calls and texts. I can imagine she was hurt by this, I know that I would be hurt if someone broke up with me that way.

I haven’t spoken to this girl in nearly ten years. If she felt I did something wrong in our relationship, she never confronted me about it or brought the issue to the school.

But yesterday, as near as I can tell, she saw a newspaper article about me in the Baltimore Sun, and made a Facebook post attacking me and Cards Against Humanity:

Several people that I went to school with have posted a Baltimore Sun article from 2012 about the success of Cards Against Humanity, a popular indie party game created by a Goucher alum.
That is my rapist.
Having his face pop up on my news feed unexpectedly in any context has the capacity to ruin my day. Seeing him praised in the press is giving me a panic attack.
He should not be held as a good example of the excellence that Goucher grads have, can and will continue to achieve.

Her more recent posts have called for a boycott of my work, and she (or her friends) started a Twitter account to tweet at celebrities and organizations that I work with calling me a rapist.

Part of rape culture that hurts everyone is that it makes it difficult to talk about what is and is not consent, and makes it incredibly scary for people to speak up when their boundaries are crossed. It is entirely possible she read something completely different than I did into an awkward college hookup. If any part of that was traumatic for her, I am sincerely sorry, and I wish we would have had a chance to address it privately. I’ve sent her an email and a Facebook message and given her my contact information, but so far I haven’t heard back (but she did edit her post to remove my name).

I spoke with my lawyer, and she thinks I have a clear case to sue this woman for libel and get a restraining order, but I have no desire to bully or harm her. Additionally, I’m not wild about the precedent that sets for other women to come forward in cases of actual sexual assault.

I have made a career on the incredible power of social media, and the radical new ability that we all have to say whatever we want to a mass audience. Today I can’t help but feel hurt by those same tools that I love.

There is no evidence for this story. I will never have a chance to defend myself. The structure of the modern internet is such that these things never reach resolution and never go away. This is just baseless gossip that will now haunt me for the rest of my life.

Here’s what’s going to happen moving forward:

  • I will continue to be a feminist and an advocate for women’s rights to the best of my capacity. Cards Against Humanity will continue to hire amazing, talented women.
  • We removed all of the “rape” jokes from Cards Against Humanity years ago. We’ll continue to use the game as best we can to “punch up” and not “punch down.”
  • You will not harass or threaten the woman making these claims. I am not looking for a mob of people carrying pitchforks on my behalf. If you harass her or go after her in any way, you are not a friend of mine, and you are not a friend of Cards Against Humanity.
  • I am probably going to take a brief internet break; the last few days have sucked. If you see me this weekend at GaymerX, I could use a hug.

Yellow Roses and Other Tragedies Chapter 1-A Light-bulb and Kidnappings

A/N:Hi! So I got inspired by my indulgences(binges more like it) in the Captain Boomerang x Reader tag and wanted to write my own! Reader is a precious oc to me so I was super rambly with her so forgive me in advance! This is also my first (public) fanfic so feedback would be amazing! Also, forewarning you here, it’s reeeeeeally long and an antagonizing slow burn but this last time any of my work gets this long so I hope you stay! Okay, I hope you enjoy~

Character: Captain Boomerang/George ‘Digger’ Harkness

Word count:  2254

Rating: PG13

Warning(s): Language, Panicked Nightmare Scene

The one fluorescent light in your closet of a cell was blinking again. You had begged the guard countless times to fix it, even threatening when they wouldn’t give you the pleasure of a response. You would fix it yourself but the straight jacket they forced you to wear was specially made for you, countering your inhumane strength and more importantly binding your fist to a useless state. They’re paranoid but not without reason. You lean against the padded wall, throwing daggers with your glare at the unfazed bulb and and snarling as if it would be intimidated into stopping.

Your name is Y/F/N Y/L/N, better known as Starlet for the way you can open space( yes, actual literal galaxies) through the palms of your hands.

You have been a “guest” at Belle Reve for almost a year and a half now after the women who made you into the thing you are now, the so believed love of your life, left you to die when her plan went south. At first you were heartbroken, in more pain than you have ever felt, how could she do this to you? Leave you on this doomed planet to rot? Then, you had gotten angry and (according to the report on your file) hysterical. How dare she play with your life like this? Your heart??? You went on a admittingly rash killing spree soon after she left- or so you’re told, you had no recollection of it. The only thing you remember vividly is the sharp sting of the dart piercing the back of your neck and seeing the pitiful look in the so called hero’s eyes as you slipped out of consciousness. Then suddenly you’re in a padded room (much like the one you call hell now), delirious, nauseated, and tied up, waiting in booking.

You slam your head against the padded walls of Belle Reve, driving the memory trip back to where it came from. Thinking of the pass won’t change your present. The light flickers to a halt for a moment before blinking again. You slam your head again, harder than before, the light stops its infuriating blinking again for a moment before proceeding. You giggle to yourself, a smile growing on your lips. You continue hitting the wall with the back of your head repeatedly, breaking out to a howl of a laugh.

“Quiet in there Y/L/N!” The posted guard shouts from behind the door across from you with a pound to it. Your head slacks froward and grin lopsided at the door as your laugh simmers back to a bubbly giggle.”Acknowledging me again are yo Mr.Guard?” You feel a tinge of pride in your response. In the past you would of simply screamed back and laugh louder. The doctors would of been proud of your strides.”Fix the fucking light! Maybe I’ll stop then you goddamn puppet!”You yell again, trying to have a conversation or a resolution to your problem. You’re answered with nothing. You grunt in frustration. “Well then I’ll fix it myself!” You go back to pounding your head to the wall, going to different walls at different angles to see if it makes a difference. You laugh in a huff at the lack of response from the guard. “You’re spineless Mr.Guard!” You’re talking mostly to yourself at this point but you don’t mind. Well you didn’t until the spineless guard barges into your cozy cell with guard Griggs and a few more of his grimy helpers making a beeline to you.

You manage to hit your post guard in his jaw with the side of your foot as you screamed like a cornered turkey and desperately try to rip the jacket off. It’s fruitless and, after getting three more down with you and biting Griggs hard on his filthy hand, you’re sedated and strapped into a wheelchair. The shot hits you immediately, your body goes limp in the chair as Griggs brings his face close to yours, whispering in your ear “Sweet dreams, Y/N”

His sinister message follows you to your subconscious. Everything just goes dark for a moment and you fee more peaceful than you ever remember being in your whole life.

You relish in it.

It’s gone with the next, quickly replaced with the nightmares. It’s different every time of course but it carries the same themes: your mistress, the torture that made your mind the misshapen thing it is today, or the crippling fear of not knowing who you were before her. This time the dream showed you your mistress laughing in a cruel way you never heard as she dropped you from the sky, it changing colors rapidly around you as you fall endlessly.

Until you meet the ground with a bone crushing snap,

blood filling your lungs and you weep pathetically as the laugh distorts into an all out scream coming from all directions.

You struggled to breathe, you’re defenseless as the sky closes in on you.

You cock your head to the side and your breathe stops completely as the single yellow rose leans in a breeze that wasn’t there. Suddenly the endless chaos stops, being replaced with the single rose and the sound of unseen birds. You sit up and you find yourself surrounded with thousands by them, in a meadow you’ve never seen. You didn’t know why flowers were the answer to stopping your distress but you didn’t want to question it, relief from the continues death was nice.

You’re heavily groggy but you’re awake when you’re muzzled and rolled into a room filled with doctors. You try your best to get away from the gun pointed at your neck but it isn’t much in your state, the searing pain then instant burn shocking your body into a nauseated sense of delirium you have become used to in your stay here but still gives one hell of a punch to your senses. You’re quickly wheeled off to what you presume is the courtyard. The sun stings your broken but functioning eyes and your deprived skin. Considering it too dangerous, you were rarely let outside in the year and a half you’ve been in Belle Reve so the sudden appearance of the sun had you feeling worse and you shrunk into the wheelchair as much as you could.

You were quickly unstrapped not only from the chair but the jacket that had almost felt like a second skin to you and was swiftly pulled out of it. You stumble as your eyes desperately try to adjust but you’re saved from falling from lean and tattooed arms pushing you out of their space.

You squeeze your eyes once more and the light finally adjust as you run one hand through your wild mess of hair. You spill out an airy laugh that quickly evolves into an all out roar. Have they gone mad? Why wouldn’t you kill everyone in your way and take off now that you’re free of restraints. As if reading your mind, a petite women with a shrill Brooklyn accent spoke out.

“What was that? I need to kill everyone and escape!?” You smirk to yourself as you look at her, not being the only one doing so as the surrounding soldiers visibly tensed. “Sorry! It’s the voices!” she shoots her arms up in good spirit before dropping them with a cheeky grin. “I’m kidding. That’s not what they said.” You huff a breathy laugh and she perks at the sound, grinning wider. “Thank you! Harley Quinn.” She shoots a hand up in greeting as the other gestures at herself. The name doesn’t ring any bells but you nod in acknowledgement at her with a small smile on your lips. Harley grabs the arm of the tall man beside her suddenly, seemingly pulling him out of a daze with the touch. “And you must be Deadshot! I heard you were unstoppable, how’d you end up here?” She asks, her accent lifting up the curious tone in the question. Another wave of sickness hits you and you sit on the concrete floor, trying to fight it off as you close your eyes to block out the light, still focusing on the conversation unfolding to your left. You don’t see it but you hear Harley get shrugged off roughly. You instantly feel sympathy for her.”Listen doll face, I don’t know why I’m here but I’m definitely ain’t here to make friends so let’s not get friendly.” “So touchy big baddie” You could almost hear the pout in her voice but you could also hear that she more amused than offended.

”Did you get dragged out of your cell too?” You shout, trying to join now that you could open your eyes again.”Well it wasn’t a volunteer thing sweetheart” You chuckle but stop when you hear a low growl of a laugh join yours. You lean back and look beyond Harley and Deadshot to what you can only be described as a reptile fetish having furry’s dream. “Hello there!” You shriek out to the figure with a wave that stretches your tendons more than your muscles can handle with the year of restricted movement. He grunted a reply but the muzzle makes it hard to understand him.

You nod to him and turn back, pulling your knees to your chest for a moment. The nausea was almost gone but your neck sill burned. Why did  they take you out? They specifically told you when you were being processed that you’ll never see the outside again but here you are, the wind throwing your hair back and forth. You cradle your face in your hand, glancing at who they gathered before standing back up.

You’ll hold off on any killing, you couldn’t do anything anyway, your star bangles were the only thing that could drive you to that point and you weren’t allowed to have them in here. Your mistress set triggers in your mind when she remolded it into the perfect weapon for her use. Stars triggered your adrenaline, your sense of justice she has instilled in you, and most of all aggression. When they took them you couldn’t cope for the longest time (you’re not sure you have coped at this point either but you’re clean.) without her soothing touch to bring you down to a functioning state of being. She has left you jittery, dependent, and less whole than before. The withdrawal feeling never goes away for you. Your hands idly caress the spot on your biceps the trinkets used to it on when you attention is pulled by the dropping of a heavy burlap bag between the line of soldiers and your group of criminals.

The soldier who drops it quickly cuts it open and instantly the bag comes to life with movement. A large man comes out of it and the soldier with the knife is instantly met with the man’s fist as he glocked him in the jaw. You snort in the same moment, not being able to help yourself.

The man is quickly apprehended by the surrounding soldiers.

You giggle uncontrollably with your knuckle pressed to your mouth as he shrugs them off (or tries to would be a better way to put it,), loudly proclaiming he’s cool and lifting his beautifully huge arms up in retreat. He glances sideways at you as you try harder to smother your laughing at his expense. He looked as if he wanted to do more but is quickly stopped by an assertive soldier you can tell has too much power and is aware of it. The large man walks off, now standing beside another new face. The overpowered soldier comes into view, a stern faced women standing to his right. “ My name is Colonel Rick Flags. You will address me as sir, Colonel, or Colonel Flags. From this day onward you will be working under  Amanda Waller.”He gestures to the women beside him who makes no effort to acknowledge she was addressed. She seems fun. He looks as i he would continue but is quickly talked over by the woman.

“The reason you are all here today is because each of you possesses special skills that we require. Bottom line: we believe you can do some good.” You’re face scrunches in confusion, did she forget where she picked us from? “And if any of you feel you are too good for our program here and try anything I’d like you to remember that shot you had gotten. Let’s call it insurance,” You reach up slowly to the dull throbbing pain at the back of your neck. Flag continues where Waller stops. “What we put into your necks was a bomb; it’s the size of a grain of salt but powerful as a hand grenade. This i the deal: you disobey me you die. You try to escape, you die. You otherwise irritate or vex me, and guess what? you die.” You swallow hard.

Harley raised her hand slowly before continuing ahead. “I’m known for being quite vexing, I’m just forewarning you.” “Lady, shut up!” Flags snaps at her. That’s rude, how dare he snap at her copping mechanism? You move as to snap at him but was quickly cut off by Waller. “Enough. Strap up everyone, it’s time to see if you were worth the effort.”

Mea Culpa:  We Are Seeing a Resolution Play Out

Right.

About Jeff and Annie.

We are seeing the resolution to the “Basic Sandwich” dangling plot thread. We’re seeing it play out in real time, and in very subtle ways.

Yeah. I’m as shocked as anyone else that I’ve boarded this train. If you told me three days ago that I’d be buying a ticket, I would’ve called you nuts because, as far as I could tell there was very little movement in addressing it, let alone resolving it.

But then I did a rewatch. I do tend to rewatch episodes, mostly because I tend to like most Community episodes much better on rewatch once I get my admittedly high expectations for funny/character work out of the way and can watch the episode for what it is.

This tended to be the case this time around. Except for “Basic Email.” That episode is still crap, IMHO, for a lot of reasons I don’t want to get into here.

Anyway, in watching WHAT IS, I, well, began to notice a few things.

I kind of feel a little dumb right now.

Keep in mind, I was never one of those shippers who bought into the idea that there’d be some big moment where we’d go AH-HAH! I never was one of those shippers who thought it would be addressed right away (I figured the middle-third of episodes at best).

In fact, my own stated wish was to have them subtly building in the background until we hit the resolution.

This is why I feel kind of dumb right now. Because I am getting exactly what I hoped for. I expected a breadcrumb trail similar to what was laid down in S2 for the Jeff/Britta are having secret sex reveal. What we are getting is something a lot more subtle. There are clues there, but I think the flaw is that it’s might be too subtle for many people who aren’t particularly invested in this particular storyarc. It’s definitely going to be dismissed by people who anti-ship.

But, I think I’ve got some interesting evidence on my side. And it all comes down to one thing:  a significantly changed dynamic.

More under the cut. Beware, it’s hella long.
