Working with a team required her to change and learn how to be a polite assassin and have some sort of bedside manner, but she’s still who she is. - Sarah Shahi

I think one of the more entertaining and confusing things in animation school is, like every school, each prof thinks they teach the most important class and is the most important in the field

for instance my storyboard prof and layout prof this year constantly have a lot of opposite ideas. layout prof says memorizing perspective and layout mechanics is the number one thing in successful boards, meanwhile storyboard prof will sort of disregard it and say it’s not the most important thing. layout prof says you always need establishing shots, storyboard prof says she’s exhausted of regularly seeing them, etc

it just goes to show that literally everyone has their own opinions on what’s ‘right’, including two professionals who both worked for Disney

The Final Problem: Eurus’s crash therapy session

I’ve written one post talking about how my husband viewed the “I Love You” scene in The Final Problem.  I wanted to write some more, as we’ve discussed TFP in depth together.  We talk a lot about the media we consume because A) we’re nerds, and B) our views are usually quite different.

It’s also nice to have a male perspective on things, as it sometimes can shed some light where my female brain just bumbles around in the dark and stubs it’s toe on the Feels Dresser.  My husband views things very textually, but he is also fantastic at thinking about stuff on a meta level.  It’s nice because he has no ulterior motives either, no shipper goggles or anything.  I’m going to write a bit about his theories about TFP and what it all meant in his eyes.  I’ll add my own views as well, for comparison.  This is going to be a long af post, so strap in!

(Disclaimer: this post may contain more shippy talk than you want, because I am a major Sherlolly/Molly Hooper lover, but you can also disregard my feelings and read for the hell of it.)

Okay. I realized that I never actually spoke or even thought properly about how I see Aya-Yukako-Koichi-Rohan love square (or whatever it is…). So there are some sketches to show the whole picture.
Rohan has unhealthy interest in Koichi. Not sure if it is love or more like performances of some spoiled child, who needs attention, but let him be. Unfortunately (?) for Rohan, Koichi is straight - yeah, I guess so - and dating Yukako. Aya is just catching lulz. And slightly seduces Yukako incidentally LOL. Which is OK with the girl who admires Aya enough (as example to follow) to be ready for some useful experience, if you know what I mean… I like imagining the situation where Aya crosses the line of fun and starts liking Yukako. But Koichi and Yukako ends up dating anyway HAHA.
As a conclusion we have one sweet couple and two broken hearts. BUT WE MAY NEVER REACH THE CONCLUSION IF WE DON’T WANT TO.

obviously all the boys wouldn’t give a shit what their mc looks like I mean they’d love you regardless but be honest literally everyone has something they like this is just my own personal views on what they’d prefer \( ̄ハ ̄)

V + Saeran added.

female edition, request if you’d like a male edition.

Zen likes smaller women than he is, shorter especially because he likes to feel like the protector in the relationship. So a short small figure would suit him best. Personality wise he likes strong women who aren’t too clingy and are positive most of the time as well as supportive.

Jumin absolutely loves tall curvy women, most of the women he meets are very thin and willowy so he loves thicker girls. Boobs and butts for days. Personality wise he’d like an MC that’s a little more reserved and shy, but definitely not quiet by all means. Loves hearing his partner talk. Also someone who’s connected to their emotions and can help him connect with his.

Yoosung loves tiny chubby girls that are shorter than he is. He likes cuddling up on their lap, thick thighs make good pillows. Personality wise he likes outgoing girls who aren’t shy by any means. He has a little bit of social anxiety, so an outgoing MC would help him come out of his shell.

Seven loves androgynous girls, he doesn’t really have too much of a figure preference though. Probably a boyish figure if anything. Personality wise a strong independent MC would fit him, but still witty and smart at the same time. He likes being able to joke around all the time with his girl.

V doesn’t really have a figure preference honestly, he finds all bodies beautiful and genuinely doesn’t care what he gets. Personality wise he likes innocence, a happy go lucky childlike MC would suit him.

Saeran didn’t even know he liked women so I mean?? Nothing really suits his fancy but i’d say he’s similar to Seven, he likes boyish androgynous girls. Personality wise he wants someone who’s strong enough to put up with his bullshit, but never too prideful. Also someone who’s considerate and kind to him as well as others.

“Things you can do instead of assuming people’s pronouns”.

And if you mess up, don’t panic, say sorry and DON’T DO IT AGAIN.

Also, I know I should repeat that on every single post I make (although I do post often), but this is from MY experience only (even if I have a test group of several dozens of trans people who throw in some of their own experience too) and should be understood as such. I am ALWAYS talking from my own point of view and that should be taken into account when looking at my art.

2012!dan’s thoughts on 2016!dan.

disclaimer: obviously there is no way of knowing what 2012!dan’s actual thoughts would be on his present day self. these are my own views and interpretations.

okay this literally took me about 10 hours to finish (once i start a drawing i keep going until i’m done otherwise i lose motivation). i’m honestly really happy with it, despite how fucking hard it is to draw 2012!dan’s hair jfc.

i see a lot of people genuinely believing that 2012!dan would be angry over everything that 2016!dan does nowadays, but i really don’t think that’s true. what do you guys think?

Let Me Tell You About The Silmarillion (pt 1/12)

All right, you’ve seen the Lord of the Rings and The Hobbit movies and they’re a lot of fun, but it seems like there’s this whole big world of characters and events beyond them, but it’s just so massive! Where do you start? LET ME TRY TO HELP YOU WITH THAT, FRIEND.  LET ME TELL YOU ABOUT THE SILMARILLION.

INTRO:  Over the last year or so I’ve been doing my best to lure friends into Tolkien fandom and to do this I’ve had to explain a lot of stuff the movies wouldn’t or couldn’t put into them, including a whole lot to do with The Silmarillion. As a result, I’ve shored up my own views of those characters/places because I had to, in order to better explain them or just because I went looking for art references!

I mean, I’m still not an expert, some stuff is still fuzzy for me (so please be gentle if you want to chime in, I’m totally up for discussion, but Tolkien fandom scares me sometimes!) and it’s sort of fun to see my progress as I work through a lot of this stuff, especially because honestly the Silm isn’t exactly the easiest to read. You practically have to read it once just to get an outline of things and then go back and start over just to understand what the hell you just read. And that’s kind of a lot to ask of people!

But I find one of the things that most helped me cement things in better is having reference points for the characters. FOR EXAMPLE, when I was starting out and I would say, “Shit, I am having a lot of Maglor feelings today!” I also used to often think, “Maglor is one of the sons of Feanor and also the Elf that helped raise Elrond and his twin brother Elros when they were young.” That connection to Elrond (a character that is already firmly established in my mind) helped me keep straight who Maglor is. From there, I could branch out into the other stuff that Maglor did–like wandering forever and all the Kin-Slaying stuff.

That’s what this series of post is meant to be. A fun way for me to draw connections between characters that the wider fandom knows and the Silm characters and draw some broad strokes. And have some fun doing it–this isn’t terribly serious and I’m going to wind up condensing things down and putting my own spin on things, so don’t take this as hard fact. It’s a humorous retelling! I made myself laugh AND THAT WAS THE POINT.

So.  I’ve been thinking about this and I want to start with movie characters, since many already have a reference for them and they have a lot of connections and are deeply entwined with everything that happened, especially Elrond and Sauron and Galadriel. Well, that and Gandalf, perhaps. But then I keep thinking, shit, first you need to have a basic set-up of how Tolkien’s world works!  SO:  Way back in the beginning, before the planet was made, there was the One True God, Eru Iluvatar. From his thoughts, he created 14 spirits called the Valar (think Archangels) and then a whole shitload of “regular” “angels” called the Maiar. Together they’re collectively called the Ainur.

Basically, they’re disembodied spirits who are making Music-With-A-Capital-M together and they create the planet (eventually). Then the Valar take physical form and go forth to help mold the planet into what they all agreed was the way to go–except for the strongest among them, a dickweed named Melkor. He’ll be important in a minute.

Once the planet has progressed far enough, we have two continents that will be important. Aman and Middle-Earth. Keep in mind that Middle-Earth is about the size of Europe, give or take, and it’s in the East. Aman is the Blessed Realm or Valinor or the Undying Lands (there are a lot of names, I know, don’t worry about it, you’ll acclimate) and is in the West. So, after a bit, Eru wakes up the Firstborn of his Children, the Elves (other stuff happens, but broad strokes here) and the Valar decide to ask the Elves to come live with them in Aman, because it’s more magical there.

i am trying
so hard
i keep trying
to be good enough
a better child
a better student
a better person
but no matter how hard i try
i still feel inadequate
i still shrink away in their presence
clam up
say “i’m fine” before daring to say anything else
i cannot stop comparing myself to others
to pointing out my flaws
to feeling as though my mistakes are magnified
to thinking that no matter how hard i try
i’ll never be good enough

and then
you came along
and you showed me
that despite my flaws
despite the mistakes i make
despite everything i feel is wrong with me
i am more than that
i am more that other’s view of me
i am more than my own distorted view of myself
you showed me
that it’s okay to feel insecure
to feel afraid
because it just makes me human
you showed me
that who i am
is enough
that i am
—  Anonymous said: i love your blog <3. could you write about not feeling good enough to your parents, to your family, feeling insecure because they barely know you, but despite all this, there is “someone” that makes you feel comfortable, proud of yourself, and that everthing is ok?
