my own terms

dirty laundry looks good on you by suspendrs (19k)

“So um, Niall mentioned you haven’t lived here long. What brings you to London?”

“What is this, an interview?” Louis smirks, stealing Harry’s drink and taking a sip. “Wanted a change of scenery. Dunno.”

Harry hums and takes his drink back, narrowing his eyes playfully at Louis as he takes a long sip. “Can I buy you a drink, or would you rather keep sharing mine?”

“You most certainly can buy me a drink,” Louis grins, grabbing the bottle back out of Harry’s hand, “but I’m still going to be stealing yours.”

Or, Harry is jaded and sad and resigned to be forever alone, until Niall sets him up with a friend of his whose broken pieces may just fit pretty well with Harry’s.

  • Otome guy 1: I was betrayed by a woman in the past. Trust is an illusion meant to be broken. I can never love again.
  • Otome guy 2: Love? I am familiar with the concept, but I am aware that even my most trusted reference books are no substitute for actual experience.
  • Otome guy 3: People keep telling me to tone down my flirting habit, but... look, the incident with the mannequin was just that ONE TIME
  • Otome guy 4: Meh. I don't care about romance. I'm just gonna go take my third nap today...
  • Otome guy 5: I'm busy living my life on my own terms. I don't have time to waste on foolish ideas like love.
  • MC: *walks into the room and breathes*
  • Otome guys: O-oh. *clutches chest* What is this mysterious feeling...??

honestly, what I think would be great for like the opening scene of the Raven Cycle tv series is this:

It starts off with an aerial shot of a quiet night and the interstate has no cars. The shot zooms into the sign on I-64 that says Welcome to Henrietta. It’s dirty, and you can still see remnants of the spray paint over it. Then it goes off into all the places that make Henrietta.  Slowly go over Nino’s where there’s a crowd of kids and it’s hustling and bustling with activity. Then show Aglionby, which is quiet, except for a few lights in dorm windows on. Go to Monmouth, and in the corner of the shot, you see a shadow of a boy. Then Boyd’s where you see just a lone bicycle outside, and a teenage boy hunched over a car through the window. Go back to the streets, it’s quiet, but then suddenly the revving of engines is heard and a white Mitsubishi and a black BMW speed into the shot and then over the horizon in a flash of screeching tires and red lights. And to finish off, it goes to the churchyard, in the distance you see an orange Camaro, and then goes to a stone wall and starts the show with Blue, like it does in the books.

All while Southern Nights by Glen Campbell plays to give the illusion of a normal rural town before anything is found out (which we as readers all know, but if anyone watches the show without any prior knowledge of what goes down it would be great)

“When I tell people how happy I am to be living alone and living my life on my own terms and to be free and independent and empowered, the first thing they say to me is ‘Oh, don’t worry you’ll find someone’ and that is so not the point. What if your life completes itself?”

being part of a fandom gets a lot easier once you realise there’s more than one way to interpret a character

being heavily into the classic rock fandom is weird because while I love learning about the past and listening to older records, I’m starting to realize that I’m missing my own history, in terms of pop culture. And one day my kids are going to ask me “hey mom, what happened in 2014” and all I’m going to be able to say is “idk but i can tell you what led zeppelin did in 1973”.

bro why is it ending?

This blog is ending at 1000 problems because that is where I said I would end it 3 years ago when I started this blog. I don’t want to turn the blog over to someone else and I want to end it on my own terms. I know that isn’t going to satisfy anyone, but I’m doing exactly what I said I was going to do, and that makes me happy
