Who named them/Significance of their name: His parents named him together! His name doesn’t have any specific meaning but his parents chose it because it sounds “friendly”; a comfortable word that rolls off the tongue like “halla” or “falon”.
Home they grew up in: A steady rotation throughout the Frostback Mountains and their surrounding steppe, on the Orlesian side of the range. Lots of wind, lots of sun, lots of cold!
Relationship with parents: Idyllic. He had a (at times irresponsible) friend in his father, and a steady guide in his mother. The couple worked well together; where Ronin would show Mahon the fun and joy in his chores and lessons, Oriole would ground him in showing the usefulness and gravity of the knowledge.
Three Words to describe them as a child: Curious, willful, kind.
Childhood friend(s): Many!! He was sociable and generous with a massive love and wonder for the world. Shyer children were easy for him to sweep up in his adventures. He had a handful of close, deep friendships that were rattled by his period of intense grieving.
Favorite Toy: A June knot his mother crafted for him. It was one of the only toys that kept him from wandering off to find the tallest tree and climb it. Definitely helped his little brain develop!! He has a knack for solving puzzles. He was a touch materialistic as a kid and had a sizable collection of little carved animals, too.
Childhood Trauma?: Witnessing the slaver ambush that took his father’s life, took three clan members captive, and the subsequent winter fever that ravaged the clan and took his mother’s voice and hearing. He became terrified, furious, and distant, alarmed that the world could do so much damage in so little time. It took him the greater part of 7 years until he began to resemble his old self again.
Hobbies: Wrestling, tree-climbing, singing.
Childhood fear(s): Chevaliers (or, the Chevaliers previous city elves told stories about, after joining clan Lavellan), whiteout blizzards, wolf packs in the winter.
Quirks: His snaggletooth was the first one to grow in and he used to have a habit of sucking his teeth when he was thinking really hard. Not a conscious quirk, but pine needles and burrs stick to him as him he were a little forest creature. (And still do.) He didn’t have a “confused” face until he was around 9 years old. If he was confused, he would just look immensely pissed off.
