  • He doesn’t regret it

[Read Part Two// Post-Kerberos! Matt HC here!]

modern!johnny cade headcannons
(there’s so mucb jally and lgbt!johnny it’s not even funny omg)

- johnny would probably listen to bands like imagine dragons, artic monkeys, some of twenty one pilot’s older music, and the hardrock dally likes

- he also managed to talk ponyboy into reading to him, which wasn’t hard because pony loves to read to him anyway

- this boy always has a pair of earbuds on him even if he isn’t listening to them

- it helps him whenever he has to block out his parents

- which is a lot

- but he’s careful not to listen to his music too loud. he doesn’t want to go deaf and especially not before he’s 20

- mostly because ponyboy and darry always nag him about it

- and johnny’s never really understood why it wasn’t socially acceptable for men to wear makeup or wear dresses or skirts?? he just doesn’t get it

- johnny also keeps a hair tie on his wrist for when he gets too anxious and needs something to fiddle with

- two-bit once had to take it away from him because he was scared johnny’d cut off his circulation to his hand

- and his hands are always shaking

- so johnny’s always fidgeting with something to try and hide it

- but it doesn’t matter who you are

- his hands are shaking

JALLY/LGBT+ PORTION

- and, okay, one night he’s with dally and they’re driving. they weren’t talking. they were letting dally’s radio fill the silence.

- johnny was cool with it

- and dally was Focused™ on driving

- and johnny’s just watching dally drive and dally runs his hand through his hair and, internally, johnny just kinda goes,“oh. oh shit.”

- mkay he realizes that he may have a small crush on dallas winston

- which he hadn’t really considered before

- and he quickly decides that it shouldn’t matter who you love if it doesn’t harm you or the other person in a negative way

- so johnny realizes that he could fall in love with anyone

- at first, it kinda scares him but he ends up researching all night about this

- turns out, he’s pansexual

- the first person he comes out to is ponyboy, who actually knew what the term meant (probably because this boy never gets off tumblr smh)

- pony accepts

- he comes out to two-bit next. then soda, steve, and darry. he had to explain what it meant, but they accepted.

- he comes out to dally last. not because he didn’t want him to know, but because johnny was scared he’d ask who made him realize that. johnny wasn’t ready to tell him that.

- so one night they’re driving again and the sun is setting and dally looks like he’s made out of gold

- johnny loves it

- dally ofc doesn’t notice or let on to johnny staring

- johnny looks back to the road in front of them

- “i’m pansexual.”

- “you’re what?”

- “i could fall in love with anyone, dal.”

- “even a guy?”

- “even a guy.”

- johnny can feel dally staring at him

- he’s terrified to look up at dally but he does

- dally’s face is totally blank

- “whatever makes you happy, kid.”

- johnny can’t figure out how dally feels about it

- a small part of johnny is scared that dally’s angry

- but dally offers him a cigarette and johnny knows he’s at least not angry

- they don’t talk. just smoke in peace. the radio fills the silence

- which allows johnny’s mind to wander

- his parents would disown him

- so he never comes out to them

- he cries when lgbt+ get equal marriage rights. first, it’s out of elation because he is so happy. but then he goes home and hears his parents bashing the lgbt+ community

- he doesn’t even get through the door when he hears them

- and he goes back to the curtises

- he’s a mess

- he’s trying really hard not to cry but he can’t

- he can’t do it

- he was apart of that community and they were people, too

- ponyboy gets him to calm down after an hour

- he stays with the curtises for a week after that night

- johnny was a lot quieter after that, if that was even possible

- it worried dallas the most, though

- “c'mon, johnny, man, you haven’t said five words all day!”

- “i’m fine, dal.”

- it went on like that for a month, driving dally insane

- so, when dally runs out of ideas, he turns to the oldest curtis brother for help

- dally and darry have always been close,, okay

- and darry honestly saw this coming. he was just waiting for dallas to figure this out himself

- so darry isn’t surprised when dallas comes to him and all he’s talking about is johnny

- darry can tell dally’s been drinking by the way he slurrs his words and how he can hardly stand up

- “dar, what’s wrong with johnny? why won’t he talk to me?”

- darry, being the genius he is, starts to play a little mind game with dallas

- “why does it matter, dal?”

- “‘cause he’s my friend, dar.“

- “you’re friends with sodapop and you don’t care if you go a few days without talking to him.”

- “well johnny’s different, man!”

- “why’s johnny different? why do you care if you don’t talk for a few days?”

- “‘cause i want him happy! and ‘cause he doesn’t act like i’m an asshole!”

- “why does it matter what johnny thinks of you?“

- “i don’t know, man! he just..he makes me want to be less of an ass.”

- “so johnny makes you better?”

- darry watched as a drunk, crooked smile found its way across the younger boy‘s face. it made darry smile, too.

- “yeah, man. i love the little dude.”

- “yeah, just like a brother to you, right?” darry knew this wasn’t how dallas loved johnny, but he needed dally to say it himself.

- darry knew he gotten through to dallas when his eyebrows scrunched up.

- “no, man. i love him the way i loved sylvia. i wanna—” dallas then went on to describe all of the very raunchy ways he wanted to see johnny cade, and it made darry want to rip his ear drums out (he did not need those visuals of his friends), but he had gotten through to dallas.

- “dal—” darry cut dallas off mid-sentence,“why don’t you go find johnny and tell him yourself?”

- dallas’ drunk smile faltered.“no, man. what if he doesn’t feel the same, man?”

- “you’ll never know unless you try.”

- “dammit, darry. he’d be in the lot, right?”

- “yeah.”

- and like that, dally was gone. darry quickly sent johnny a text to give him a heads up about what was about to happen and to be in the lot.

i felt like this was a good place to stop. should i write more outsiders headcannons??

The moral is, never cheat on me.  And feel free to use any of these in your everyday life.

Many years ago, I used to be a feminist. At first it was merely a “yeah, girl power! Feminism!” kind of thing. And then I moved back home from an abusive relationship, and started hanging out with one of my best friends more often. He was one of the few guys that was a genuine friend and didn’t want to try to get into my pants. Or so I thought. After several months, having found some peace and routine with him, he brought up the prospect of being anything more. Thing is, I felt nothing for him in that aspect. I mentioned this, told him that it wouldn’t feel right forcing myself to be in a relationship with him when I didn’t actually see him in a romantic way and that it would only be cruel to him. He was disheartened, but he didn’t bring it up again for a while.

He was a pharmacy student who was on the cusp of graduation. He studied well and had high grades, and part of our hangout routine was him using his homework and notes to “teach” me (I didn’t really pay attention, but it helped him to better understand his material). One weekend - Halloween, actually, as I will always remember it - he was picking me up from my place so we could spend a few days lounging and playing video games. His car broke down and we spent hours waiting for the tow truck. The next night, we were playing video games per usual. He asked about whether or not I wanted to go somewhere and do something different. I told him that, understanding his financial situation, it would be best if we just continued with our normal routine. At the time, I didn’t think much of it. I figured “Hey, he must just be bored and stressed.” He seemed flustered and excused himself to get us some drinks from downstairs.

He came back with some drinks. I remember that mine tasted odd. I chalked it up to flat soda and allergies to the cats. Soon after, I got extremely tired. I thought it was because I hadn’t slept a few days and it was catching up to me, and I was with someone that I trusted.

I woke up feeling weird. My clothes were gone, I was in his bed, and he was on top of me. His tongue was down my throat. Every ounce of trust I had went down the drain. I was enraged. He was the ONLY male I had trusted. He was my best friend. I hardly trusted my own father to not hurt me at this point in my life because of how rocky our relationship had been. The man I had just left was sexually, physically, and emotionally abusive. This man, the man I so foolishly had considered my best friend, had broken every ounce of trust. I don’t even know the full extent to what he had done to me. But I demanded a ride home.

I never went to the police because I didn’t think they would believe me and at the time I still cared for him as a friend. I didn’t understand at the time everything that had happened. It didn’t completely sink in for years that he had drugged me. It didn’t sink in that he was the one who took off my clothes, that he had touched me in places he knew I would never allow. And I didn’t want to ruin his life over it. But it hit deep enough that I began to hate all men. Every one of them.

A couple of months later, after barring him completely from my life, I was hanging out with my female best friend. She took me out with two of her male friends, who I didn’t like or trust. And a guy that I’d liked from high school met us at the place we were hanging out. He pulled me off to a secluded area and started kissing me. At first I didn’t mind. He was cute, and seeing him kind of rekindled the old flame. But then he wouldn’t stop. And I started pushing him away from me, but he would pull me closer. I’d tell him to stop, and he would tell me that I didn’t really want that. I started struggling and yelling.

My best friend with her friends came across us. I came to find out that she didn’t know he had taken me away and had been looking for us. He friends separated us. I was crushed, because once again a man had broken my trust. My friend, instead of consoling me, lashed out at him. Accused him of “using me to get to her because he knew she liked him.” She didn’t try to make sure I was okay. But her friends did. Her two male friends, who I hadn’t liked simply on the basis that they were male, told me that if they had known the extent to which things had happened they would have beaten his ass instead of telling him to leave. One, who had just gotten out of jail, said that if I knew where the guy lived he would be more than willing to go back to protect me from the guy. These two men were more understanding than she had been.

They took me home. I was too shaken up to be fun. My dad saw how I was, and asked me what happened. The guy worked with my father. I told my dad what he did. He asked me what I wanted to do. My only words were “I want him to go away.” My dad said he could make that happen. And he did. The guy moved to California within the month.

I began having doubts about whether or not all men deserved to be hated simply because of their penis.

Months later, I began going to school the place my dad worked at. I realized that a lot of the ladies there liked my father. He wouldn’t ever do anything to return this “friendliness” from the women. My father prided himself on being professional. He was a completely different person than he was at home. One of the women who consistently tried to advance on my father began to feel spurned. So she and some of the other girls conspired together. They made false accusations about my father. Saying he would touch them and speak inappropriately to them. The school wouldn’t even listen to my father. They wouldn’t even allow him to defend himself. “The accusation alone is proof enough” were their official words. They made him resign.

My father began working as the general manager of a chain of luxury refinery. The girls that he hired took a liking to him, and when he turned down their advancements, they did the same. They accused him of sexually harassing them. When he didn’t. Once again, he was forced to resign. “This has happened twice. If it happens again, we will be forced to revoke your license.” Once again, they didn’t even allow him to defend himself. They wouldn’t see the video footage of him telling them to stop. They wouldn’t see the texts of him telling them to calm down. Because he was male.

And I realized that I, as a woman, held more power than any man ever could. I realized that all it took was mere words to destroy a man’s life. That wasn’t weakness. It wasn’t oppression, not on a woman’s part. I realized that there were shitty men and shitty women. But there was no shortage of good men either. And there was no shortage of good women.

My resentment for men faded, and it faded fast. My resentment for feminism grew for forcing me to be so scared of men, because despite my terrible experiences there were men who were willing to go to prison to defend a woman that they hadn’t known for more than five hours.

My entire point is that you are allowed to be hurt by your past experiences. You are allowed to feel, to grow past it. But don’t harbor the hatred. Don’t turn it against the people who didn’t actually do anything to you. If a man abuses you in any way, shape, or form, it’s on him. It isn’t on the shoulders of every other man in existence.

Misandry isn’t the answer. Don’t let your fear turn into hatred, please. Learn to grow past it. Because no matter how scared you are, there are people strong enough to protect you, who are willing to do so in the blink of an eye. People who don’t even know you who still love you enough to treat you like family. And it’s not their fault that there are fucked up people. People, not just men. People.

Happy (A Boyf Riends One-Shot)

Notes: I spent FOREVER on this. And I know it’s very clunky at parts. But I hope you enjoy this.

WARNING: LOTS OF MENTIONS OF SELF-HARM AND SUICIDE ATTEMPTS

Michael always thought that you should be happy with yourself and who you are. Who cared what other people thought? As long as you, yourself, was happy. Why the hell did it matter?

Which he knew that this kind of out-look on life wasn’t shared by his best friend. But Michael understood. It’s easy to see what others think and ignore yourself. That didn’t mean that Michael didn’t try to change that.

So what? They were losers. Weren’t well liked, weren’t popular. To Michael he was just happy to be himself and to have Jeremy. Jeremy was the best person in the world. Michael knew that the day that Jeremy defended him all those years ago.

Michael could always be himself around Jeremy. That he could tell Jeremy anything. Jeremy didn’t care that Michael was living by himself, that he was gay, or that he was Filipino. So in turn, Michael accepted himself.

But when Jeremy fell out of the formula, Michael didn’t expect that the equation would break completely.

Jeremy got what he wanted, his own formula, the squib. Jeremy had gotten what he wanted. And Michael couldn’t lie with the fact that he was glad that Jeremy was happy.

Jeremy was better off without him? So be it. Michael could live with that. Michael could live with being the loser. But as the days went on. He would periodically check his phones for texts. Weeks, he would somehow show up to his house after school before turning back. Months of him just trying to TALK TO-

So, it turns out being the loser wasn’t as great without someone being one with you. Michael always considered himself lucky to have a friend as cool as Jeremy. But it looked like that luck ran out for him.

It always seemed to do that.

Now, Michael doing research wasn’t because he thought Jeremy would come back to him. Well, mostly. He knew Jeremy was changing himself. To be chill. And those moments when Jeremy looked like a single bit like himself, there would be a second of shock. Then Jeremy would be sitting straighter, voice lowering, and barely have his eyes open. Not giving a care about the world around him.

He also began to notice Jeremy not eating as much as he used to. Sure, Michael was barely at lunch or the rest of the day anymore (spending it at 7/11 rather than sitting next to a lab partner who ignored you sounded a lot better). But was it possible for Jeremy to get any skinner than he was?

So it started with just asking once, curiously, cautiously, on a server. But then it grew, the stories, the news articles. It was all there. No more bullshitting. Michael didn’t care anymore about having his best friend back. He just wanted him ALIVE AND-

Well, it never seems to work that way. Sneaking to the party? Easy. But talking to Jeremy again was the hardest thing he had to do. And no preparation could’ve helped him with what happened.

“Get out of my way.”

“Or what?”

“Move out of my way. Loser.”

Loser.

With a capital L.

A title.

He was no longer Michael, no longer His Favorite Person, no longer Player One.

Loser.

Michael used to always think you should be happy with yourself. But what was even the point if not even your best friend liked you anymore?

He wished that he burned along with the house.

He wished that the firefighters hadn’t find him.

He wished that Jeremy would’ve came to see if he was even alright.

If Michael died, maybe someone would give a damn.

But Michael didn’t die, but he tried. The burns covered his arms, they didn’t even look natural anymore. It didn’t really matter though, his arms were already ugly enough before.

But he was surprised to see Rich at the hospital the day that Michael was allowed to go home. Rich was a mess. He looked around nervously, his body tensing several times a minute, despite being in a full cast. Michael could see all the pain in his eyes, his face.

Michael then remembered his Mountain Dew Red, the one he had brought with him to the party. For Jeremy. Still in his pocket.

He remembered walking in, Rich looking at him with panic in his eyes. Michael took off the cap.

“Rich, I know it’s hard for you right now. But I NEED you to swallow this.” Michael said. Rich looked at the bottle, and nodded frantically.

Michael slowly poured the soda into Rich’s mouth. He knew he needed more based on how long he had his Squip. Drinking half the bottle, before his head snapping down. Michael almost freaking out when Rich let out a huge yell. He backed away as nurses came to check on him, taking this as his opportunity to leave.

Michael hoped Jeremy wouldn’t end up like that.

Michael didn’t care for the medicine they gave him. Let his arms rot. It’s nothing compared to what he feels already. It didn’t really matter anyway.

It turns out that no one knew that it was him who was left in the house that night. More people were focused on Rich and about him not being drunk when he set the place on fire. Really, Michael didn’t give them a reason to notice. He showed up to school that next Monday morning, big red hoodie covering his new burns. Jeremy didn’t spare him even a look. Michael didn’t know if he was relieved or disappointed.

But somehow despite his ignorance to his medicine, they already healed within two weeks. Well, healed to be scars a color paling to his skin that he knew would be there forever. But as he stared at his horrid limbs, he saw the almost ruined pacman tattoo. He was surprised to even see it intact. But faded, and holes in the yellow face.

Michael knew that Jeremy always wore those long sleeves to cover his half. Who knows, he might’ve gotten it removed by now. Michael wouldn’t be surprised. It was all just pointless now. The tattoo, the video games, their friendship, his silly little-

No. It was all worthless. Worthless to Jeremy. Worthless to him. So worthless… y'know? Michael was tired of looking at it, his arms were damaged enough anyway. While he was at it, needed to burn some stuff too.

But Michael didn’t expect to see Jeremy’s dad. He didn’t know how he knew but he just, he had to get rid of it, rid of all of it. Rid of all the memories, the emotions, the feelings. He had to get rid of-

Jeremy.

God, Michael just knew that he loved that boy more he could ever love himself. He had to get up, get his pants on. He knew that maybe Jeremy would never feel the same. But Michael had to support him.

Michael kept one new bottle of Mountain Dew Red with him. Even as he walked into the auditorium, sitting in the front row. Michael wasn’t looking forward to him trying to talk to Jeremy again after the show. But he was excited to see Jeremy in the show. He bet Jeremy would be great. This was pretty good for a school play.

Too good.

Jeremy!

Before Michael had time to think about what he was doing, he got out of his seat and ran to one of the doors that led backstage. He couldn’t help but shout to his appearance, was he high? Maybe. But Jeremy’s face and hearing his own name on Jeremy’s lips. Made Michael the happiest he had been in months.

But Michael didn’t expect Jeremy to run after him. He thought he was gonna get one of Jeremy’s special hugs that Michael hadn’t had in so long and-

“Look out!” He heard Jeremy yell. He snapped out of his thoughts as he moved to see that Jeremy was trying to push him.

“Dude! What the hell?” Michael questioned.

“It’s my Squip dude!” Michael didn’t know how happy hearing the word ‘dude’ could make him.

“What do you want me to do?” Michael asked.

“Get me to drink it! Force it!” Jeremy yelled coming closer. His walk, however, was powerful unlike Jeremy. The way Jeremy’s body held himself scared Michael to taking a step back. But Jeremy grabbed his arm. Michael winced, almost dropping the bottle, pain shooting up him as Jeremy’s hand held him in tight grip.

“Michael? What’s wro-” but suddenly Jeremy’s face stopped. It was his face, but Jeremy wasn’t there. This face was confident, sneaky, and not anyone Michael had seen before.

“So, it was you. I had my suspicions, but best friend killing himself over a fight? A little cliche if you ask me.” The voice, it wasn’t Jeremy’s. Michael almost had tears coming out from the pain he was in.

“Y-you bastard.” Michael muttered.

“Imma cut you a deal. If you drop that bottle, I’ll give you what you want. Everything you wish for.” The voice said.

“W-wish?” Michael asked.

“Ah, Michael, Michael. Don’t think I didn’t notice. I may have had Jeremy blocking you, but I could see it. You love him.” Michael didn’t say anything, he needed to focus.

“I can give him to you.” Focus. Pull away, you need to save him-

“Michael.” Suddenly, everything was frozen. It was his voice. In that tone that Jeremy used when he talked about-

“Michael.” His face, so relaxed. So happy to be here. With him. The grip on his arm loosing. Another hand coming up to his face.

“Mikey, I…” That nickname, he hadn’t used it since they were kids! He didn’t know that he missed it so much!-

“I love you.” God. I was like everything Michael hoped for. Wanted. Dreamed.

“Jer…” Michael didn’t notice the many tears streaming down his face.

“Put the bottle down Michael… lets go get stoned in your basement!” He smiled, his grin… it was… off. It wasn’t as big. His eyes, almost too green and not enough blue. His hand on his cheek not having the slightest of shakiness.

This. Wasn’t Jeremy.

And it broke Michael’s heart in more ways than one.

“Mikey…?” It sounded so confused and worried…

Michael brought his hand to Jeremy’s. Held it, trying to memorize the feeling. It warmth. “I’m so sorry Jer-Bear… God, you almost lost me.”

“Michael?”

But before anyone knew it, Michael twisted the cap off took Jeremy by the neck and put the bottle to his lips. Michael stared forcefully into Jeremy’s eyes.

“Jeremy! If you can hear me!! Swallow it!!!” He felt Jeremy’s hands take his arm again. Squeezing it tightly as Michael let out a yell of pain.

“Jer!! C'mon!! I know you are in there! Snap out of it!!!!” Jeremy’s eyes for that slight second flickered blue as he heard Jeremy swallow, then going limp.

Taking the bottle from his lips. Both of them collapsing, Jeremy on top of Michael. Then, Jeremy shooting straight up, and like many other students letting off a scream. All Michael do was hold Jeremy close before the ambulance came to get him.

The couple of days that Jeremy was in the hospital, Michael didn’t want to see him. All the guilt. God, he almost let everyone get Squipped because of his silly little crush.

God, he didn’t deserve to live.

But his legs carried him to his room anyway. To see him. He wanted to hold that hand again. But he couldn’t. Jeremy, Squiped or not, had a better life without him. But the one day that Jeremy woke up, Michael couldn’t resist coming over.

“Dude, what happened?” Jeremy asked.

What happened indeed, Michael needed to skip that part. “Oh man, it was genius! They were communicating with each other - they were linked! Which means… when you consider the kind of high frequency sonic disturbance needed to wipe a system that powerful…”

“Michael. My head still hurts.” Oh. Maybe not that much detail.

“Right, ah… turns out we didn’t have to destroy every Squip. Just the one. And the rest… boom boom boom!” Michael said imitating explosions. Hoping to make Jeremy at least smile.

Jeremy didn’t, he looked at Michael with a confused look that made Michael question if he was remembering what happened.

“I don’t get it. After everything I did…” Michael’s hand immediately went to his arm to rub it softly. He could still feel each scar through his sweater. “You were still there for me. Why?”

Because I love you.

“I can’t take all the credit.” Michael forced himself to say. “Your dad can be shockingly persuasive.”

“My dad?”

Michael was glad to see Jeremy’s dad wearing pants. Having a serious discussion with his son until…

“… Who is this Christine person?”

Right. Christine.

The one, Jeremy, he…

Right.

“H-hey Jer? M-Mr. Heere? I g-gotta go.”

“What? Where?” Jeremy asked, surprised.

Michael took a deep breath, and gave a smile. “I’ll see you later Jer.” And walked out before anyone could stop him.

Michael was surprised on how easily the school could fix itself. How just a week later, it was like nothing ever happened. Sometimes Michael wished he could do that.

And he could, he had to. This is Jeremy’s first day back. Just be Michael Mell.

“Michael!” He turned to see him, Jeremy wearing his favorite sweater and shirt. It made Michael very happy inside.

“Jeremy! My man, how you feeling?” Michael asked. The way that Jeremy’s face lit up, Michael knew he must’ve been doing something right.

And he was.

They were friends again. And it was like nothing changed. Well, almost. Jeremy still liked to hangout with the cool kids. Which was fine, Jeremy was not on the bottom anymore. Michael was happy about that. But he couldn’t deny that he was much happier with the fact that Jeremy mostly just spent time with him. Like when they decided to play video games almost every day after school.

“And I think Brooke and Chole are thing? I don’t really know.” Jeremy did like to talk about the cool kids. Michael didn’t really mind… but he just didn’t know what to say about it.

“Then… um… go ask if they are dating? Or ask Jake and Rich? I don’t know what to tell you dude.” Michael said.

“I guess you are right. But, I don’t wanna be rude.” Jeremy being nervous was a welcoming sight for Michael. He was glad that he was back to normal.

“C'mon dude, they’re your friends. I’m sure they’ll understand.” Michael said putting a hand on Jeremy’s shoulder in comfort. Jeremy smiled his small smile that made Michael’s heart beat slightly faster.

“Hey, there having this celebration that Rich is finally getting out of the hospital. Wanna come?” Jeremy asked.

Michael pulled his arm back, and turned to pick up a controller. “I don’t know Jer, I not really friends with them.” He shrugged.

“Rich likes you. He… said that you helped him.” Jeremy said.

“Oh…” Michael remembered the memory coming back. “Yeah, it was the least I could do. I had a bottle on me and-”

“Why were you at the hospital?” Jeremy asked, he seemed nervous to ask. As if this was something he was meaning to ask before.

“I… was just…” Michael tried to find some excuse.

“Michael…” Jeremy said.

It was almost like when he said it when-

“Was what the Squip said true?” Michael froze. The controller going ridged in his hands.

“Y-you remember that?” He asked.

“Michael.” No, he couldn’t get distracted, he had to…

“J-jer, I was j-just there. I helped him out. E-end of story.”

“Mikey…” Michael felt himself freeze again.

“D-don’t use t-that name against me J-jer. D-don’t.” Michael said as he put the controller down with shaky hands. He then stood up from the bean bag.

“I’ll g-go get s-some food ok?”

“Michael, no.” Suddenly Jeremy stood up and grabbed his arm. It wasn’t tight, but Michael still let out a hiss mixed of the slight pain and surprise.

“Michael? What happened? What aren’t you telling me?!” Jeremy said.

“Jeremy, it’s not your problem. It’s just my stupid-” but before Michael could say more, Jeremy lifted the sleeve of his hoodie and-

“Oh god.” He only lifted it to his elbow. But you could clearly see the damage.

The scars from the fire and the scars from his pocket knife that he kept now in his room. Jeremy gently held his arm.

“Please tell me that this… is the worse of it.” Jeremy pleaded. God he was so innocent. Taking his left arm, no. That was the one that didn’t have…

Michael’s tears then leaked out. Man, was he that weak? To hurt himself just because his best friend called him a… a…

“You remember… they mentioned someone being in the house… after the…”

“Michael, you didn’t-”

Michael looked to the floor.

“Michael, tell me the Squip was lying! Y-you were locked in there! Y-you weren’t t-trying to…”

Michael swallowed.

“Oh god Michael.”

“I’m sorry.”

“What the hell do you have to sorry for!?” Jeremy looked into Michael’s eyes. Tears spilling out, if only Michael had just-

“God damn it, this is all my fault!” Jeremy said, looking to his arm.

“Jeremy, it was my-”

“Let me see the rest of them.”

Michael held a breath, but knew he couldn’t deny the request.

Michael took his arm away from Jeremy, to zip down his red hoodie to reveal only a black tank top. Taking off his hoodie.

Now Michael couldn’t deny his slightly muscled arms. But that didn’t matter, they were destroyed with the pale scars that now decorated his body. And the darker scars that more towards his wrist. He held them out to his best friend for 12 years. He looked to the ground, nor bearing with the look that Jeremy probably had on his face.

Michael felt Jeremy’s warm hands caress his right arm. He knew that he wouldn’t find what he was looking for. All that was left would be the bits of yellow of what pacman used to be.

He the warmth disappear but could feel Jeremy walk between his arms until Michael could see Jeremy’s shoes only a couple inches from his. He then felt a warm hand on his cheek. He brought his eyes to Jeremy’s face as Jeremy’s other hand grabbed his hand.

Michael still had tears streaming down his cheeks to his neck, but Jeremy didn’t seem to care.

“I’m sorry.” Jeremy whispered.

“It was my mistake Jer, I did this to myself.” Michael said quietly. Bringing his other hand to where Jeremy’s was. Holding it.

“But I called you a-”

“Don’t say it. Please.”

“…”

“But, I’m sorry.” Michael said.

“What could you even be sorry for?” Jeremy asked with a hallow chuckle.

“I almost… dropped the soda Jer. I almost caused the freaking apocalypse.” Michael took a deep breath. “Just because he was saying all those things.”

“Michael…”

“I know. I’m sorry.”

“I-I thought it was so easy-”

“Why would you ever think that?!” Michael gripped Jeremy’s hands slightly. “You calling me that, in the same voice that you use when you talk about…”

“About?”

“Christine.” Jeremy was silent. “Jeremy I couldn’t handle it, I would’ve done it. Believed him. Saying that I could have you. God… I’m so selfish. You even said that you…”

“Michael…”

“You said that you loved me.” Michael whispered. “I could’ve thrown everything away just because you said that. God Jer. I’m so pathetic.” He loosened his hold so he could pull his hand away.

“No! You’re not.” Jeremy said, gripping his hand even tighter. “I almost just let him take over me. Because he made you so happy…”

“No… it was never him. The moment I realize led it was when he smiled. It wasn’t you. And… I just couldn’t live with it.” Michael said, looking into Jeremy’s blue, so blue eyes. “I couldn’t live without you.”

Jeremy didn’t say anything as he stared back at him. But before Michael could say anything else. Jeremy pushes likely to his toes to reach his lips.

Michael was surprised, but closed his eyes to enjoy the sweet moment.

But a moment became more as Jeremy moved his hands to his neck and opened his mouth slightly. Michael bringing his arms around Jeremy’s back, bringing him closer.

It was everything Michael dreamed of and more, he didn’t want to pull away just in case this was some cheap prank. It didn’t matter that his big glasses were pinching to his face, but that Jeremy was sucking on his bottom lip, letting out tiny moans, and playing with Michael’s hair.

But soon enough, Jeremy pulled away. Michael didn’t know how out-of-breath he was until it ended. Almost gasping for air. But it looked like Jeremy felt the same way.

“Michael… Mikey…” Jeremy chuckled. “I thought you hated that nickname.”

“No, it was just that other kids…”

“Hey. I get it.” He smiled, “I can’t live without you either. I’m sorry it took me forever to realize that.”

“Well, it looks like you’ll have forever to make it up to me.” Michael said, slightly pulling Jeremy closer.

“That I do.” And smashed there lips together again.

Michael wasn’t happy with himself, and it would take a long time for him to be. He cared about what people thought. But who cares? As long as Jeremy was there. Why the hell did it matter?

Seokmin

  • is barely ever actually at his apartment
  • like he’s the kind of person that has a super active social life so he’s probably spending the night over at a different friend’s house every day of the week or getting home at like weird hours of the night
  • but the landlord doesn’t care because hey in the end he makes rent and that’s what matters
  • like his door is full of take out flyers and sometimes even packages stand out on his mat for like 3-4 days at a time because like ????? does he even come home like ????? ever
  • inside his apartment though he’s got a lot of stuff because he never really throws anything out ?? like he’s got CD’s from when he was kid, boxes full of comic books and old action figures, and thrown over his couch is a blanket he got second-hand from hoshi
  • and it’s really kinda cool though because he has bookshelves full of trinkets and books and photo albums
  • and on his wall he has photos of singers and rock bands he looks up to
  • and since this is an au, seokmin’s closet looks like you took it from the nineties lots of dad caps, flannels, and ripped jeans because tbh if seokmin was going to have an aesthetic as just a regular dude living on his own he’d probably keep up with his band days and be the type to own a ‘nirvana’ t-shirt
  • does weird stuff when he’s home alone like sit on top of the kitchen table and eat take-out and drink his soda from something that looks more like a vase than it does a cup
  • and you don’t even know who seokmin is. you don’t even think the apartment next door to yours has anyone living in it
  • until you’re over at a party a couple of blocks down hosted by your friend seungcheol and somehow you get involved in this crazy game of twister
  • and it gets down to you and this boy,,,,,, who is kinda cute with his pretty half moon smile and really big grin
  • and you’re supposed to get your hand over his and like flip yourself around but you end up wobbling and falling forward,,,,,,,,RIGhT ontop of this cute boy
  • whom you’ve never meet
  • and you’re like !!!!!!!!! sfhksda im so sorry!!!!! but you’re also laughing because god how awkward to fall on someone during twister
  • but the boy is just laughing too and he’s like “don’t be sorry, it’s my pleasure ^^” and you’re like your pleasure??? and he’s like “ive never had someone so good looking fall ontop of me before ;)”
  • and you playfully like nudge his arm before giggling into your palm
  • and then you hear seungcheol’s voice like “hey lovebirds get off the twister mat so we can restart the game!!!!”
  • and you flush red when you realize you two,,,,,,are just laying there in front of everyone at this party
  • so you get up and offer your hand to the boy who gladly accepts
  • and the rest of the party you two stick together and talk and you find out his name is seokmin!!! and that he’s really really hilarious and good at body gags and puns
  • and he’s so totally your type and to your surprise seokmin is like “THIS is gonna sound corny but,,,,,,,, you’re totally my type,,,,,,”
  • and you’re like omg no way that’s what i was thinking and you two burst into giggles again
  • and when it’s time to go,,,,,,,,,seokmin is like “let me make sure you get home safe!!” and you’re like oh sure i live a couple blocks down and he’s like whaT a coincidence me TOO
  • and as you’re walking you and him are talking more and more and tbh you stop and you’re like “i don’t wanna leave,,,,,,,,i wanna spend some more time but since i have to go let me do this-”
  • and you lean up to kiss his cheek and seokmin is like grinning and he’s like i don’t want you to go either
  • and as you continue walking he holds your hand and you smile, but you’re so happy because finally you went to a party and you acTUALLY met someone sweet
  • and you’re like ‘oh this is my building here!!” and seokmin looks up and he’s like ,,,,,,,,,,,, wait
  • i live here too
  • and you’re like what oh my god what floor
  • and then he says the same floor as you and you’re like NO WAY WHAT ARE WE NEIGHBORS
  • and yes,,,,,,,, turns out that apartment you thought was always empty is actually seokmin’s apartment
  • and you’re both staring in awe until seokmin is like
  • “hey maybe that means fate brought us together for a reason,,,,,,literally together because we’re neighbors and also because i like you let me take you out on a real date tomorrow?”

Jihoon

  • always worn-out and the kind of neighbor who would fall asleep in the elevator ride if it weren’t so short
  • you can tell by his constant yawning that he probably spends a lot of the night up doing work,,,,and like his clothes never look ironed and if you see him going to take the garbage out or get the mail he’s like got a face-mask on and the most sleepy expression
  • but also he always lugs around a guitar case twice his size and a shoulder bag that seems stuffed to the brim with notebooks of all different sizes
  • and he’s respectful, nodding to elders and things like that but mostly he doesn’t speak much to others
  • and it’s probably because he’s got one million things on his mind but also,,,,,,,,,i repeat: tired
  • his apartment reflects his hard work like the one thing that’s most noticeable in the entire apartment is that his living room has a huge desk with dual monitors and a shelf stuffed with books on musical composition and journals full of songs and lyrics
  • and jihoon has pens in coffee mugs in the kitchen, paper crumpled near the foot of his bed (a bed he never uses since he falls asleep in the computer chair or on the carpet beside his desk)
  • and im not saying this au brings back ponytail!jihoon,,,,,,,but that’s exactly what im saying
  • and there’s a point in the week when you have some trouble sleeping so to calm down you make some tea and go out on your balcony to sit in the night air
  • and that’s when you hear it,,,,, the soft strums of a guitar,,,,,, then a sudden stop,,,,,, and then the guitar again
  • and you look over and for the first time, even though it’s a bit dark you can make a figure out on the balcony beside yours and you tell yourself “isn’t that jihoon’s apartment?”
  • because although you don’t talk much to him, you know him by first name because your neighbors and when he’d moved in you had stopped by to welcome him and he’d told you his name
  • but it’s weird,,,,,you’ve never seen him outside his apartment
  • and you never knew that he,,,,,played the guitar so well like you’d seen the case and assumed he liked music but the melody you’re hearing now is absolutely gorgeous
  • but then it stops suddenly and you hear him grumble a loud that it’s no good
  • and before you can really think you get up and go “i really like it!”
  • and jihoon’s head snaps up an he’s looking at you from above the fence of his balcony and he’s like ,,,, “o-oh uh im sorry for disturbing you ill be quieter!”
  • but you’re shaking your head and you’re like “no, i really liked what you played, is it your own?”
  • jihoon nods, looking shyly down at his hands because gjfsgfs he didn’t know anyone was listening ,,,,,
  • but you just smile and go “it’s pretty, i would want to hear more.”
  • and jihoon seems hesitant, but it’s like 2am and you’re the first person he’s talked to in days since working on this song so he asks if you’d really want to hear what else he has and you say you do
  • so he plays it,,,,,,, and you close your eyes so entranced by the sound
  • and it’s enough to even make you feel a bit sleepy and when it’s over you give him a thumbs up from your balcony and he just shyly hides his head, but he’s smiling
  • and you say goodnight as you go back inside
  • and as your head hits your pillow, the sound of jihoon’s guitar fills your memory and you fall asleep easily
  • while jihoon sits outside on the balcony, holding his guitar and thinking about how breathtaking you looked standing there, eyes closed, with the moon as your backdrop and you and him as the only ones awake in that moment ,,,,,

Minghao

  • honestly,,,,,,,is he a model????? why does a model live in this building???? it must be because the rent isn’t that bad,,,,,,,
  • jkjkjk but seriously everyone is always in awe of minghao,,,,, because like is it humanly possible to look that good??? no matter what??? because he can come out in his pajamas and still look like he’s walking the runway at seoul fashion week good lord
  • but also,,,,,he’s just a sweet oblivious kid
  • and everyone whose older has the strong urge to offer him food and take care of him like maybe it’s because he’s so tall and thin but also just looking at him makes someone want to take care of him,,,,,he’s just so endearing
  • all the neighbors invite him over for dinner tbh he never even has to buy food
  • except jun will come over and literally eat every snack minghao has bought in the past week and minghao is looking at the wrappers all over his living room floor like: jun ge,,,,,,,,,,,,you’re a punk you know that right,,,,, (same goes for hoshi hyung who does the SAME damn thing some1 save minghao)
  • his apartment is pretty nice though,,,,like he’s got this nice aesthetic going with fresh flowers in the kitchen and lucky chinese charms hanging from the walls ,,,,,,, lots of tea and other herbs his mom sent him from china
  • it always smells really good in his house
  • but the coolest thing and like,,,,,,,ok seriously just think about this: minghao,,,,,,,,,,with a pet snake
  • and he has like a whole tank just for his pet,,,,who he named sunflower in chinese,,,,because of it’s yellow skin,,,,and when you first come in you’re like huh do you own a liz- THAT IS A SNAKE
  • but minghao love sunflower, he can take her out and wrap her around his shoulders and he’s like ‘she’s a shy thing, come and hold her’
  • also idk i just think he’d look so cool with a snake ,,,,,
  • but yes you find out one day about the snake because minghao gets in the elevator with you and he’s holding a box,,,,,,and the box just says,,,,,,mice

  • When did you start to care?
  • I’ve dreamt about your death; put money in a collection box and prayed for it; blew out my birthday candles, wished for it. If it actually ever happened, I’m not sure I’d feel relief or guilt.

  • Brush your teeth, I wanna play.
  • Other than the presents and the booze, can you tell me three good reasons we should get married?
  • Oh, don’t mind me. I accidentally took three of my pills instead of one.
  • Well, if you need me, I’ll be in the bushes across the street stalking you.
Flood my Mornings: Samhain

@abreathofsnowandashes said: There would have been A LOT of Irish emigrants in Boston in the 1950s, particularly Irish speakers.  There would have been Scots too, but in much smaller numbers and Gàidhlig would have been much less likely to have been spoken for obvious reasons. I’d love to see Jamie overhear Gaelic (Irish Gaeilge or Scottish Gàidhlig, he’d understand both) being spoken, or maybe come across a hurling/shinty game and make a connection

Notes from Mod Bonnie:

  • This story takes place in an AU in which Jamie travels through the stones two years after Culloden and finds Claire and his child in 1950 Boston.

October 31, 1950

“Happy Halloween,” chirruped the pimple-strewn lad pumping the Gasoline.

Jamie gave the boy a smile and a nod. “Aye, many thanks, and the same to—Bree, no!” He lunged across the wide seat of the Ford and grabbed her round the middle.  She protested and scrabbled vainly for the door latch she had very nearly gotten open. “My apologies,” he said out the open window as he righted himself, holding the lass firmly on his lap, “she’s quite the handful.”

The boy gave Brianna a little wave. “Got big trick-or-treating plans tonight?”

“Ach, no, not this year. Just a bonfire with some friends.”

Burgers, marshmallows, candy, and beer! Nothing fancy! Tom had assured him. Just bring you, the family, and maybe some ice?

Jamie had left work an hour early to drive home, shower, change into clean clothes, and pick up Brianna to drive the two of them back to Fernacre for Tom and Marian’s gathering. Claire was working overnight, this evening, and Jamie was feeling just that wee bit awkward about the prospect of a social gathering without her at his side. Granted, he would know nearly everyone present; and they were his work comrades, after all; hardly strangers.

Still, when the convenient topics and tasks of work were removed from his social scenarios, there would always come the odd moment where his ignorance of modern times or American tastes or both would be thrust into the spotlight (“What did you think of the game?” or “What’s your favorite John Wayne film?”) and it was Claire who so adeptly diverted attention so he might collect himself, even as he wracked his brain to recall where he had heard the name of Mr. Wayne before.

Still, Claire had her duties, and a festive night shared among good folk (for whom he had genuine affection) certainly outweighed the other available option: being obliged to bide by the door all evening, passing out sweeties to any costumed child that cared to ring the bell. Would that strangers had been so generous when I was wandering Boston looking for Claire. Baffling, the lot of them, these Americans.

“Whoops, I’m sorry, mister, I don’t have enough change,” the boy said apologetically. “Can you hold on a minute while I run inside?”

“Aye, dinna fash, lad.”

The boy blinked and made a face of incomprehension. “Dinner what?” Then, realizing how rude he sounded, he raised his hand, looking distraught and about to start babbling.

“I only said,” Jamie interjected, “‘Take your time.’”

He said it patiently, wanting to be kind, but as soon as the boy was out of sight, Jamie closed his eyes and felt himself sighing, wearily practicing the proper phrases in his mind for the next such time. ‘No problem, man.’ ‘Don’t worry about it, Sport.’ Flatter “R”s. Shove sound to the back of the tongue. Quieter. Less.

We c’n go-to play th’game, too, Da?” Brianna asked suddenly in Gaelic.

“Game?” He blinked his eyes open and studied her face, looking up from his lap excitedly. “What game d’ye wish to—”?

But then he, too, heard the voices drifting across the lot.

“Oh, definitely: Dan’s crew don’t have a chance.”

“I don’t know, they’ve been training hard—and they’re giving Michael and the boys a run for their money, so far!”

He craned his neck out the window. They were men of about his own age or a little older, their arms loaded with sweeties and Soda Pop bottles from the wee store. And they were speaking GAELIC.

Irish, from the sound of it, the Gaeilge; but the cadence and syllables were so like his own mother tongue that he actually was gasping from the rush of shock and euphoria.

He was just about to call after them, but at that moment, the young attendant reappeared. Jamie hastily completed the transaction, tipping a bit too heavily as he watched the men out of the corner of his eye, feeling a pang of dismay as they disappeared down over the hill beside the filling station. Jamie thought he could hear the sounds of a small crowd not far off.

“Beg your pardon,” Jamie blurted, as the attendant was walking away. “What’s going on over the hill, there?”

“Just a bunch of Irish playing—it’s kind of like football, but with sticks and they’re loud as all get out!” he laughed confidentially.

Game, Da!” Bree whispered in Gaelic.

“They’re harmless, though, I promise,” the boy said hastily, leaving Jamie to wonder what exactly might be feared from a bunch of Irishmen. The boy blanched. “Oh but you’re–you’re Irish youself. I didn’t mean any–” He didn’t bother to correct the boy as to his heritage, simply thanked him once more and sent him on his way.

He checked his Watch, and finding that they were still ahead of schedule, he set Bree on the seat next to him, saying in Gaelic, “Aye, a leannan, let’s DO go see the game.”

It was a group of about thirty men on the field, playing a fast-paced game that Jamie wagered was very close indeed to shinty.  The players’ wives and families (and a fair number more, it seemed) were congregated on the sidelines, tending wee coal-grills, drinking, chatting, and calling after the swarms of children running about hither and thither. And all of it was in Gaelic. Jamie wanted to cry, just hearing and seeing this slice of something so like home, the drink-fueled joy of a Gathering, something he hadn’t experienced in many, many years. He could feel the warmth of it all surrounding him with every step he took closer, like the arms of a long-lost friend slowly coming around him.

As he and Bree drew within a few dozen yards, a whistle sounded and the match broke. The players jogged to their wives and comrades to drink and chat. One man on the nearest edge of the crowd, dark-haired and wiry, caught sight of Jamie and did a double-take, turning sharply to face him in the first pink rays of nearing-sunset. “Can I help you?” he called in English, strongly accented; not unkindly, but definitely on guard.

Jamie called back a greeting in as close to Gaeilge as he could recall, though he wasn’t at all confident in his pronunciation.

It must have been close enough, though, for the man’s face brightened at once. “HEY, NOW!” he roared, walking forward with his arms raised in welcome. “A new kinsman! What county?”

County *Scotland,* I’m afraid,” Jamie replied, slipping into the Gàidhlig without thinking as he returned the man’s warm handshake. “James Fraser, and my daughter Brianna. Do forgive me for intruding; it’s only that it’s been so verra long since I heard anything like my own tongue. I just couldna resist seeing what was what.”

And we’re glad you did! It’s grand to get to meet a new cousin from the old places.”

The Irish tongue did have its differences, certainly, but Michael Riley seemed to have no trouble understanding Jamie, nor he, him, with only the occasional What was that word? or confidential laugh over differences in emphasis or tone.

Bree had been staring at Michael intently, apparently astonished at hearing Gaelic spoken at close range by someone other than her Da. When Jamie nudged her, she gave a tiny, startled ‘Hi’ in English, then grinned and buried her face in his shoulder, making both men laugh.

D’ye live in these parts yourself, Fraser?” Michael asked eagerly.

Not far, but no—I was just stopping for Gasoline on my way out to the countryside. Do all of ye live nearby, then?” Jamie asked, astonished, surveying the huge, lively crowd of players and onlookers.

Sure do—the station owner turns a blind eye to us using the field, thank the saints, else we’d all likely be arrested.”

“Arrested? For playing a wee game?”

Well, technically, it *could* be considered trespassing—have a drink?” Jamie politely refused and Michael shrugged, wiping his sweaty brow and taking a deep swig from his own bottle. “There’s a long history of bad blood between Irish and the other folk in Boston. I’m sure there’s plenty of arseholes that would love to see us get comeuppance for whichever dumb mick offended great-great-uncle so and so.”

Perhaps that went some way toward explaining the odd looks Jamie tended to get when speaking to strangers about Boston. He’d always tacitly assumed something in his manner was out of place in some indeterminate way—some eighteenth-century way, that is—but perhaps it was that he was being assumed Irish in a place where that wasn’t altogether a pretty thing to be. He would have to ask Claire.

Christ, he chuckled to himself, an Outlander thrice over, he was, in Boston. At least he wasn’t the only one.

Michael introduced him to the members of his team, one and all bringing Jamie and Bree further into the crowd, offering drinks, and asking about their history and family. He felt as if he’d walked into a clan gathering, even after only ten minutes among the Irish. “And what about you, then?” he asked of Michael, after giving his (presumed) backstory for the half-dozenth time, “From whence in Ireland do you folk hail?”

“Well, we’re mostly Corkmen here—” Michael said, which elicited cheers from the Cork contingent. “Some like me, born here stateside, but plenty of folk fresh off the boat, like Barny, there, except he’s from Tipperary. Then there’s Fergal whose folk are from Sligo,” he said, scanning the crowd and methodically cataloging. “Then Vance and Peter and the other Michael, of Galway. And then over there, there’s Charlie, but he’s not—OY!” He gave a sudden whoop of excitement and cupped his hands around his mouth to yell, “EY, CHARLIE!! COME OVER HERE!! FOUND YE A WEE CLANSMAN!!

A stocky blonde man jogged over eagerly and Michael clapped him on the shoulder. “Charlie, here, plays for those bastards on Dan’s team, but we won’t hold it against him just at present. Charlie, this is James—James, right? Aye, good—James Fraser. He’s from your precious highlands!

Charlie was an open, eager sort, ruddy-faced and jovial, quick with a joke and an easy word. Jamie quickly learned from rapid conversation in the Gàidhlig that the man was a Highlander-born, a MacAlister whose family had come to America when he was nearly sixteen. He’d hated the new place, and had planned to return to Scotland the moment as he was of age; but then war had broken out just days before his eighteenth birthday, and he’d been compelled to go fight. He worked as a builder, now, feeding the demand for suburban homes from families in the growing prosperity of the post-war times. Jamie decided he truly liked the man, and knew without asking that he must have children himself, when he grinned at Bree and said, “And hello there, a leannan,” with a little bow.

Hi, how-wer you?” she responded, to Jamie’s astonishment, in almost-perfect Gàidhlig.

I’m verra well, thank ye verra much for asking, sweet lass,” the blonde man laughed, straightening and looking impressed. “Does she speak it at home, then?

“No, not often,” Jamie said, rather apologetically. “I do try to speak it around her when I think of it, but her mam is English, so we—

“American, you mean?”

“Nay,” Jamie laughed, with a mock-sneer, “an honest-to-goodness Sassenach.”

Charlie matched Jamie’s manner with groan of false-disgust. “Christ, but ye must have balls of steel, Jamie, to  oh!” he said abruptly, looking a bit embarrassed, “Sorry—is it alright that I call ye Jamie?”

Jamie could feel the warmth of kinship flood through him like water. “Of *course,* friend,” he said with feeling.

Charlie introduced his Irish wife Saoirse and their two small boys, to whom Bree took at once, sharing their toys on the grass.

They talked about Scotland, about America, about Boston. About Gaelic. About talk of a free and independent Scotland. About the Celtic traditions that had crossed the ocean, and those that had not. Of gatherings that apparently took place all around the country, in hill-and-mountain places, for folk to remember the old clan ways, even if in naught but a faint imitation. Even of bannocks, whiskey, and wool; the simple things of highland home, even two hundred years hence, it seemed. It was more a balm to Jamie’s heart than he could comprehend: that the Scotland he knew hadn’t vanished entirely.

A whistle blew and Charlie brandished his stick deftly as the crowd began to shift. “Ever played a game of hurling?”

“It’s like shinty, no?”

“Not too far off, not at all. Here,” he said, beginning to walk backward toward the pitch, “come wi’ me and I’ll give ye the rundown.”

With a jolt, Jamie noted the position of the sun and remembered the ice in the back of the Car. “Sadly, we must be going, Charlie.”

Oh, come on!” Charlie wheedled, taking one last deep swig of beer and kissing Saoirse exuberantly. “Wee Brianna seems to be having a fine time wi’ Nolan and Will. And I’ve got some extra gear if —”

“it isna that at all,Jamie said, turning an apologetic smile toward his new companion, “it’s only that we’ve got a Halloween gathering to attend, and we’re expected shortly.”

“Och, that’s too bad. First one since you arrived? Weel, it isna nearly so ghostly as Samhain, let me tell ye. All the spooks you’re like to encounter look as if they came out from a children’s book or a Walt Disney film. I tell wee Nolan when he’s scairt in the night that all the ghosts are back in Scotland. No doorways to the otherworlds in America, so no Old Folk to be afraid of.“

(Oh, aye? Ye have one right in front of ye, man.)

Charlie held out the stick once more, inviting. "Sure ye canna be persuaded to celebrate wi’ us instead, Jamie?”

“I truly canna stay, but thank ye, Charlie, I should verra much have liked to.” Jamie knelt to break up the play-circle. “Can ye say ‘farewell’ to your new friends, Bree?”

Farewell,” she chirped, waving her chubby hand enthusiastically.

That’s not’th’right way,” chided Nolan, who was a year or two older. “You say it funny.”

Bree looked crestfallen, but Charlie ruffled his son’s hair, laughing as he gently scolded. “Nay, a chuisle, you’ve just grown up wi’ Gaeilge—YOU’RE the one who ‘says it funny.’”

Jamie scooped Bree into his arms, whispering in her ear about how proud he was of her before turning back to Charlie. “Do ye play every week, then? I’d truly be honored to come back another time.”

“Oh aye. The winter snows will start falling soon, but we’re here most every chance we can get, when the ground’s clear.” Charlie sized him up frankly, nodding with approval. “You’re a braw-looking fucker, alright. Dinna let Michael steal ye for his lousy crew, aye? They’re naught but loud bastards. The *real* talent’s wi’ us.”

Jamie made a general farewell to the crowd and received a hearty chorus of well-wishes and toasts in return.

At the risk of seeming too eager, Jamie…” He turned to see that Charlie was looking sheepish, “might the wife and I have ye and the family over for dinner, sometime?”

When Jamie didn’t immediately respond, the man shrugged, but didn’t falter. “Mebbe it’s daft, but as much as I love my Irish folk, it’s grand having someone to talk to in the old ways again; who’s truly my countryman. D’ye ken what I mean?”

Jamie swallowed down the lump in his throat as he clasped the man’s hand. “Aye, a caraidh, I ken it more than ye can possibly know.”

  • This is just a way for me to write some recent feelings I’ve been having. I do not mean to offend anyone in anyway and I apologize if I do.

The school bell rang, signalling the students that class was over. Everyone immediately stood up, collecting their things and rushing out the door, probably to their locker or their next class.

Following the sea of students, I soon reached my own locker and began putting my books away until I heard Peter coming up to me. Smiling, I shut my locker and turned to face him.

“Hey Pete,” I greeted, not surprised that he looked like an absolute mess. I frowned slightly as I saw the faint discoloration around his eye, which was poorly covered by makeup.

“Let me guess, rough night?” I asked, both of us walking down the hall to English class.

“Nothing too bad, I guess I was off my game,” he sighed. “Honestly Pete,” I began, just about ready to lecture him again. “(Y/n),” Peter whined, obviously not wanting to deal with me.

“I know what you’re gonna say and I promise I’ll be more careful,” he reassured me. “You better Parker.” I would’ve said more, but we had already reached Mrs. Holly’s class.

Taking our usual spots, we both took out our books and faced the board, reading today’s assignment. We had to create a video review of one the modern takes on Romeo and Juliet. As Mrs. Holly began to explain the assignment, a folded piece of paper fell on my desk.

I quickly took it and looked at Peter, knowing it was him who gave it to me. Unfolding the paper under my desk, I briefly looked down to see Pete’s slightly messy handwriting.

You still on later tonight?

You see, we had agreed that if he helped me study for the math test, I would help him study for English. Placing the paper on my notebook, I quickly wrote ‘yes,’ pretending that I was taking notes. Folding the paper again, I tossed it back on Peter’s desk and watched as he smiled when he read my answer. Unfortunately, this did not go unnoticed by Mrs. Holly.

“Mr. Parker? Is there something you and Ms. (L/n) would like to share with the class,” she said loudly, putting both of us on the spot. I felt my face flush slightly as everyone turned to face us, some snickering.

“Uh, n-no Mrs. Holly,” Peter answered, crumpling the paper in his hand.

“Then please pay attention to the board. You haven’t been at your best lately,” she scolded, quickly returning to the lesson. ‘Sorry,’ I mouthed to Peter, feeling bad that he was called out.

‘It’s fine,’ he mouthed back, fixing his attention to the board. I soon followed, listening as Mrs. Holly’s voice droned on.

Pretty soon, the end of school same and since it was Friday, I was quite happy and relieved. I waited by Peter’s class, playing with my hands and watching the clock intensely. Finally hearing the students getting up to leave, I backed away from the door and looked for the brunet.

“Hey (Y/n), sorry if I kept you waiting, Mr. Collins sort of went on ranting about his personal life again,” Peter said, causing me to laugh a bit. “He does know he’s at school right? Not some therapy session,” I joked, leaning my head on Pete’s shoulder as we walked. We were pretty comfortable around each other seeing as though we’ve been friends since middle school.

We continued our mindless chatter until we reached our stop, taking our seats on the bus.

“So, how’s your writing coming along?” Peter asked. I’ve been working on a story about a girl who’s an artist, but ends up in a car crash which damages her hands. She goes through a series of tough events as she struggles with relearning basic hand movements with the help of her friend, Alice. The two build a strong relationship and eventually end up together, at least that was how it was supposed to go.

“It’s coming along…slowly. Surely, but slowly,” I admitted. A lot has been on my mind lately and I can’t seem to write anymore.

“Writer’s block?” Peter guessed. “Something like that I suppose,” I mumbled, biting my lip. Peter seemed to notice something was off and shifted uncomfortably. “(Y/n), what’s wrong?” He asked, reaching for my hand.

“Nothing, I’m okay,” I smiled, hoping Peter would move on and he did.

“So, your place or mine?” I asked as we walked into our apartment building. “At least buy me dinner first,” Peter joked, feigning surprise. “Oh shut up, y’know what I meant,” I said, slapping his arm and pressing the elevator button.

“Let’s go to yours. Aunt May has a few friends over and I don’t want to bother them,” Peter explained, entering the lift. “Alright, well my mom doesn’t come back home till 10 so we should be good,” I said.

Once the elevator reached our floor, we headed towards my place. I lived right across from Peter so that was pretty nice. Unlocking my door, I switched on the lights and shrugged off my jacket, draping it over a chair and headed to my room.

“You want anything to drink or eat? I got chips and some soda if you want any,” I offered, tossing my backpack on the bed.

“Nah, I’m good. Let’s just get started,” Peter replied, taking out his math books. I sighed and reluctantly got out my own. “What, I thought you wanted me to help you,” he said, taking notice of my behavior. “I know, I know. I just didn’t think we’d study right away,” I mumbled, taking a seat on my bed. Peter sat next to me and slung his arm around my shoulder.

“How ‘bout this, if we study a whole chapter, we can watch movies for the rest of the day,” he offered. I looked over to him and smiled. “Supernatural marathon?” I asked. Peter laughed and nodded his head. “Supernatural marathon. Now come on, we need to help you pass this test,” he reminded me. I opened up to the chapter and glanced over the problems, sighing. “I can do this,” I mumbled to myself.

“I can’t do this,” I groaned for a third time, laying my head down on my pillow. “Come on, we just have a few questions left. Just rationalize and si-” Peter was interrupted when I threw a pillow at him. “Can’t we just take a break now? The test isn’t till Wednesday,” I whined. “Fine, but we are gonna continue this tomorrow,” he said sternly. I was going to complain once more until Peter tossed his books on the ground, laying down next to me. I stared at him confused until he patted the spot next to him, signalling for me to lay down to. I obliged and laid down, crossing my legs and staring at the ceiling.

“(Y/n)?”

“Yes Pete?”

“Can you do that thing again,” Peter asked, looking at me with pleading eyes like a child begging for ice cream.

“Fine,” I laughed and stood up to turn the lights off. Immediately the plain ceiling was replaced with a painting of the night sky, stars littered all over the place. I first showed Peter this when we had our first sleepover. I was in my freshman year when I decided to paint my ceiling with glow in the dark paint.

I laid back down in my spot and looked over at Peter who stared in awe at the painting. While he was busy watching that, I was busy watching him. His eyes shined with happiness, his dark brown hair slightly messy and ruffled. A melancholy smile graced my lips as I caught myself looking at him with more than just platonic love again.

I admit, I did have some interest in Peter, but I brushed it off as friendship and nothing else. Besides, he seemed so content with his life now, I couldn’t possibly ruin that. Peter seemed to notice my staring as he looked back at me, causing me to blush and look away.

“Something on my face?” Peter asked with a cocky grin.. “Yeah, just a smidge of stupid,” I replied, laughing. Peter feigned hurt and soon sat up, looking at me mischievously. I raised my eyebrows in confusion until he attacked my sides, beginning to tickle me.

“Wait no, I’m sorry!!!” I exclaimed, having a laughing fit. “I’m not sure if I believe you, after all, I am stupid,” he teased, tickling me again. I reached desperately for a pillow and gripped on tight when my hand found one. I wacked Peter in the face, making sure not to hurt him, and got him off me. At the same time however, the sound of something falling caught both of our attentions.

On the ground, laid a notebook. Its cover was a soft orange with different patterns of flowers on it. Peter looked in curiosity while I stared in shock. Before I could do anything, he picked the book up and looked towards me, anxiety beginning to fill my senses.

“What’s this?” Peter asked, looking at the book. “It’s just my old writing journal, nothing too important,” I lied, reaching for it. “Can I read it?” He asked, beginning to flip the pages. I snatched the book out of his hands and put it in my desk cabinet.

“I would prefer it if you didn’t. It’s something I don’t really like sharing,” I said, a little shaken up.

“(Y/n)?” Peter stepped closer to me, about to place his hand on my shoulder before quickly looking out the window, his face showing concern.

“S-sorry. There’s a bank robbery, I-I gotta go,” he excused himself, rushing out of my apartment.

I let a deep sigh of relief and closed my eyes, too tired to deal with anything else.

It was well into the night now and with each and every minute, I grew more and more worried. Peter hadn’t come back yet and I had tried calling his cell many times, each going to voicemail.

I sat in my bed, crissed crossed, looking out the window. I had given up on trying to reach him, it seemed pointless now. Grabbing my coat, I was about to head out to find Peter when I heard a knock at my window. Turning around, I saw him still in his spiderman suit, which was a little torn with blood stains on it. Quickly opening my window, Peter stumbled inside, steadying himself with his hand on the wall.

“Peter, what did I tell you,” I said. Luckily it wasn’t anything too bad, just a busted lip and a black eye. Peter only groaned in response, causing me to lead him to my bed so he could sit down.

“Just wait here okay?” I said, walking into the bathroom for the first aid kit. I sighed when I was only met with an empty box, I knew this would happen someday.

“Peter! I’m gonna head to the store okay? The kit is pretty much empty,” I called out. I heard Peter give a faint ‘okay’ as I left.

Peter sat on (Y/n)’s bed, he had already changed into his old pajamas that he had left over here from previous sleepovers. His side hurt a lot, but he didn’t think too much of it. He had worse injuries before.

Time passed and Peter found himself getting bored. He walked over to (Y/n)’s desk, picking up and playing around with a few things until he looked at her desk cabinet. He knew it wasn’t his place to invade her privacy, but she said it was an old writing journal. It was probably filled with embarrassing fictional stories, nothing too personal.

Opening the cabinet, he grabbed the orange notebook and flipped to a random page.

Entry - Dec. 25, 2016

Today’s been pretty great. Peter gave me a necklace and I admit, I felt bad for only giving him a drawing. His gift was so much better than mine, but he reassured me that he loved it. I came up with a new story idea and I think it was one of my best. I’m quite proud of it actually. It’s about this girl who’s an artist. She ends up in a car crash which damages her hands and now she’s going through life trying to relearn how to use her them again. I’m debating on whether or not it should romantic towards the end, but we’ll see. Anyways, Christmas has been great, everything is fantastic now.

Peter felt himself smiling at the memory, no wonder (Y/n) didn’t want him reading this. It was a diary. He did feel a little bad though and went to put it back in the cabinet when he accidently dropped it, the book opening up to a random page.

Looking down, he read the date and furrowed his brows.

Entry - February 21, 2017

I’ll be honest, I haven’t exactly been ‘myself’ lately, whoever that is. Recently things have changed, well more specifically me. I know I said I would get better last time and I thought I was, but I guess not. I’ve been feeling down lately, not all the time though. I still smile and laugh with my friends, I still feel happy and have hope in myself, it’s just not the same anymore. For some reason, whenever I get home and I’m by myself, I feel sad and I feel worthless. Well, I feel worthless all the time actually. I love my life, I have a great family, I have amazing friends, and school is going great for me, but I can’t seem to enjoy it. I feel lonely and empty. I’m stuck in this ridiculous cycle of starting the day out happy only for the negativity to crash down on me, knocking me under…I’m tired of everything. I’m tired of the constant unwanted thoughts in my head, I’m tired of being over critical of myself, I’m tired that I’m constantly getting headaches and that I can never sleep at night. I hate that I let myself get this way. I am aware that this isn’t right, I am aware that I shouldn’t be comparing myself to other people, I am aware that I should not feel this way. I want to talk to people about this, but I’m afraid. I’m afraid that they’ll be disappointed in me, I’m afraid they’ll think less of me, I’m afraid I can never be the person they want me to be.I promised myself that I would stay strong. I promised that I would stay strong for my mom when my dad abandoned us, I promised I would be supportive of my sister when she moved away to work in film. I promised my teachers that I would keep my grades up and go to good college. I promised Peter that I would always stay by him no matter what, when his uncle died and when he told me he was spiderman.I promised people so many things, but I don’t know if I can do it anymore. I’m tired and I want a break, but I can’t. Not when so many people depend on me. I don’t want to let them down, I don’t want them to be ashamed of me, but everything has a breaking point and I’ve reached mine. The only problem is that I’m too afraid to get help and that kills me.I want to just disappear and wait until the pain subsides or just disappear completely. I’m tired and all I want is a break.

Peter felt shocked and confused. He never thought (Y/n) would be going through all of this and he felt disappointed that he never realized what she was going through.

“Peter! I’m back,” I yelled, shutting the door with my foot. When I got no answer, I became confused and went into my room. I placed the bag with all my supplies and went to look up when I saw Peter sitting on my bed, his eyes red. His hand was behind his back, like he was hiding something.

“Why?” Peter asked me, his voice cracking a bit. I stared in confusion until he held up the orange notebook.

A lot of things happened that moment. First, I was scared and I was shocked. I was scared that he thought of me differently now and shocked that somebody else knew what was going on. Then I felt violated and betrayed, I had told Peter to leave it alone, but he ignored that and invaded my privacy, I felt a little angry.

“Peter-” I began only to be interrupted by the same question.

“Why?”

“Why what?” I asked, becoming a bit aggressive. “Why I didn’t tell you? Why do I feel like this? Why what?”

“Why did you ever think that I would think less of you, that I would be disappointed in you?” He asked, tears running down his cheeks.

I felt tears stream down my face and my heart clench. “Because, you think of me as a dependable person, you think of of me as a friend. I liked that you thought of me that way, I didn’t want you to think of me as a person who is too weak and can’t get help. I don’t have some complicated reason as to why I thought you would think of me like that, so if that’s what you expected, I’m sorry.”

Peter stayed silent and I sighed, letting the silence take over a bit before breaking it. “I’ll just clean you up and you can leave if you want. I won’t force you to stay here,” I mumbled, going over to the bag of supplies when I felt something latch onto my hand. Looking down, I saw a string of webs attached to it before I was tugged back. I stumbled onto Peter and his arms wrapped around me tightly, burying his face into my hair.

“I will never leave you, never you hear me,” I heard him whisper before pulling away, his hands cupping my face. “I love you and I promise I will stand by you no matter what.” Peter placed a kiss on my forehead as I felt tears running down my cheeks. I pulled Peter into another hug and cried, knowing that I had somebody I could turn to now, no longer having to write another journal entry.

Poldark returns: Aidan Turner on nudity, being single and why he's a technophobe

As the famously ripped and glowering Cornish copper miner, Aidan Turner has put the sex back  into Sunday nights. Over a large vodka, he talks about getting  naked, those pecs and playing Poldark
Just before I am due to interview Aidan Turner, his PR sends me an email to let me know that he has grown a beard – presumably in case I fail to recognise the actor fully clothed or not wearing a tricorn hat.
Poor old Turner is so defined by that scything scene that he likes to grow his beard when not committed to playing Ross Poldark – which doesn’t happen very often, given the BBC has just commissioned a fourth series and Turner says they are all tied in for five.
‘I’m not a big fan of shaving,’ he explains to me when I finally find him – fully clothed in a bomber jacket, T-shirt and jeans, minus tricorn, hiding in the corner of a dimly lit hotel bar in Mayfair. ‘It sucks. What’s the point? What is the point?’ I mention something about it being uncomfortable to be on the receiving end of a man with a beard.

Under The Back Porch

As a kid I lived with neglectful parents at best. At worst dad would turn his screams and fists on me but I learned quickly how to dodge the worst of it. Mom wasn’t much help, she’d just smoke in the kitchen and bitch at him for staying out so late.

At the time we lived basically in the middle of nowhere, our nearest neighbors were a long walk away for a six year old and we had trees between us. No one to run to for help. But I was pretty small for a kid my age. I learned I could fit pretty much anywhere. The closet. Dryer. I think even once I tucked myself under my futon in such a way I could still get some air but no one could see me.

I was a master at hiding. But it wasn’t for a good reason.

One night though, one night I chose to do something different.

Seven Minutes In Heaven (With Seventeen)

Summary: A simple little party in someone’s basement while their parents weren’t home. A simple little game meant for horny preteens trying to get to second base. It’s not supposed to be make or break for your heart, right? Right? Fluff. Multi-chap.

(A/N: Okay, so I don’t know if any of my followers remember Quizilla. But Quizilla was my first ever fanfiction website. And long before I was writing fanfiction and posting it there, I was reading. And obviously, with a name like Quizilla, the primary formatting of their website was quizzes. This meant that the fanfic writers there actually came up with something very creative - a choose your own adventure style fanfic, usually seven minutes in heaven. I saw these everywhere. If you were in a fandom at the time then there was a 99% chance that a seven minutes in heaven quiz existed for that fandom. Most of the ones I read at the time were about Harry Potter. So anyway I’ll probably explain more about this concept if asked, but I think you’ll get it as you go along. If you have read the Quizilla ones then you’ll get it right off the bat. I’ve always always always wanted to do one of these and I thought Seventeen was the perfect fandom to do it for. I’m gonna have so much fun with this. I think the only warnings are under aged drinking and light promiscuity?? Whatever have fun reading. This is just the prelude before all the individual members parts, but I do recommend reading for set up. -Tanisha<3)

You got invited to parties like this more often than you went to them. You found it more boring going out like this than anything. Your friend group had an odd mixture of people who were of the drinking age and just under, leaving you all with an odd conundrum - the older ones buying alcohol (never anything too heavy) and simply watching in amusement of how the younger ones couldn’t hold their illegal booze. This always gave these parties a distinctly ‘teenage’ vibe. Usually in someone’s basement, or in a dark backyard when parents weren’t home, with Top 40 music blasting in the background for people to embarrass themselves to.

Okay but what about a McKirk AU where one of them saves the other from an embarrassing situation even though they absolutely don't know each other?

  • Being a bartender is not so bad. The pay is decent, the company usually okay, too. Being a bartender in wedding venues? Not always as great. But the good thing about it is that mostly bridesmaids are easy, groomsmen are horny, general visitors are drunk, and Jim being attracted to mostly anything with a pulse; that works out pretty well. Plus, everyone dresses up nicely. Except maybe Leonard, who looks already drunk when he arrives at the wedding reception.
  • “You familiar with the bride or groom?” Jim asks, pushing a glass of strong whiskey in his direction; something Leonard gratefully accepts. “Yeah, you could say that. That’s my ex-wife and my ex-best friend,” Leonard replies, and Jim frowns. “Yikes. Why are you here?” “I’m the better man,” Leonard replies, “that, and my daughter asked me to be here.” “Ah,” Jim says, briefly hesitating to refill Leonard’s glass, but he does so anyway. “I’m sorry about that, man. Weddings are usually pretty great.” “Oh, it’s fantastic,” Leonard says, “I don’t have to wake up next to her anymore, nor do I have to care for a guy who’s pretended to be my friend for the last 20 years.” Yikes. This guy’s a downer. A shame, too, because Jim can sense such a caring person underneath all of that. Especially when Joanna rushes towards him. It’s like that whole, shitty situation is briefly forgotten - as is his whiskey, and instead he focuses on his girl for a while. Comments on her pretty red dress and the flowers in her hair, and promises they go out together again soon.
  • They’re gone for a while and Jim doesn’t think much about it. But Leonard is most definitely drunk, a little annoyed, and clearly hurt, too, when he returns. “Do you want some water?” Jim asks him, but Leonard shakes his head. “No, something stronger.“ Jim is about to politely object to that, but another guy walks in and pats Leonard on the shoulder. “How about that ceremony, huh?” “Yes, congratulations,” Leonard says, “you’re sleeping with a witch for the rest of your life. But considering you did so behind my back while we were still married tells me you’re going to be very happy together.” “At least I didn’t drown myself in work because I don’t know how to be a husband or a father-” “You’re not a father,” Leonard interrupts. “What do you have going for you right now, huh? Poor job performance, no wife, a kid only every other weekend. What do you have that makes you so great? Nothing.” “Me,” Jim replies, so out of the blue both Leonard and his ex best friend (or whatever) look confused. “He’s got me,” Jim says, “Leonard and I. We’ve been together for a while.” Leonard looks even more confused now, especially when Jim leans in over the bar to press a quick kiss to the other’s lips, “and I don’t appreciate you talking to him like that. You use that tone on your wife, too? For your sake, I hope not.“
  • “Why’d you do that?” Leonard asks Jim once they’re alone again, and Jim shrugs. He shrugs, because honestly, he has no idea why he just said that. “I don’t like people talking down on other people like that. Plus, I figured, for the sake of tonight, what does a little lie matter? Not like you’re seeing a lot of these people on a regular basis. Let them think you date this handsome man,” he adds, gesturing at himself. Leonard laughs at that, and when he does, Jim knows it’s his personal mission to keep this man smiling. Because honestly, he looks so much more handsome like that. “Fine,” Leonard says, “I could date a bartender.” “A handsome bartender,” Jim corrects him, and Leonard smiles lightly. “Very handsome.”
  • There are other bartenders present, luckily, so Jim takes some time to just sit with Leonard and talk. Initially just for silly dating lies, but Jim finds that the two of them have a lot in common. They laugh at the same kind of jokes, drink the same drinks, and apparently go out in the same districts. “How come I’ve never seen you before?” Leonard asks, “seems like I would’ve remembered seeing you.” “Because of my strapping good looks?” “You know you get less attractive every time you say stuff like that,” Leonard replies with a grin, and Jim smiles. He reaches out, hand on Leonard’s arm. “Hey, but, maybe you would’ve noticed me if you weren’t so focused on your shitty choice of friends. Don’t let this charade keep you down, yeah? You know which couples stay the happiest? The ones with small, genuine receptions. Where it’s about uniting families instead of showing off the debt you’ll be paying off for the rest of your marriage - weddings are expensive,” Jim says. “You learn all that from being a bartender?” Leonard asks, and Jim shrugs. “I actually organize events. Like weddings. Birthdays. Anniversaries, etc. Bartending is something I enjoy doing because I meet interesting people.” “Handsome people,” Leonard comments, and Jim laughs. “Very.”
  • Jim uses up his break time to join Leonard on the dance floor, where they mostly dance closely together and continue to talk, joke, and laugh at the stupidest things. Leonard does get a few questions from family members. How long have you been together? “Three months,” Leonard replies smoothly, and Jim just rolls with it. “I was instantly smitten,” Jim says, “though he’s a bit grumpy from time to time, isn’t he?” “More like all the time.” “I can hear all of this, I’m right here,” Leonard replies to both Jim and the family member they’re talking to.
  • Jim dances with Joanna for a while, too. They don’t lie about their relationship to her. Instead, Jim says he’s a friend who’s only just discovering how great her daddy is. Because that’s the truth. There’s so much more to Leonard than that drunken miserable pile who walked in earlier. And when Jim returns to the bar, Leonard joins so they can talk more. Joanna sits at the bar next to them, quietly drawing or playing her game boy while sipping on an alcohol-free mocktail Jim has made for her. It’s just different kinds of fruit juices and sodas, but she loves it. Loves especially the tiny umbrella and pieces of fruit in it.
  • Surprisingly, Leonard stays almost to the very end of the night. Hes gone for a few minutes when Joanna leaves with her uncle and aunt, but he’s back for another drink and Jim’s company - something Jim’s happy to give him. “Hey,” Leonard says, when the others start cleaning up and it’s definitely time to leave, “I had a great time. I just wanted to thank you.” “Oh, that’s no problem,” Jim shrugs it off casually. “I’m serious. I know this was all pretend, but if you ever want to recreate some of those dates you told my family about-” Jim laughs at that, walking around the bar to face Leonard properly. “How about instead of those stories, we make a few of our own?” Jim suggests, reaching out for Leonard’s phone to put his own number in it. “When are you free?” Leonard asks. “This week?” “Or tonight,” Leonard says, “I noticed you haven’t eaten, and I know a great burger joint-” “Burgers,” Jim says, “I’m sold.” He smiles when Leonard leans in for another kiss. It definitely feels more genuine each time it happens. Which, probably, has been happening more than necessary this night. “Burgers and handsome company,” Leonard corrects him, and Jim laughs, again. “Very.”
Kiss Cam

A/N: I saw this video recently, and it inspired me to write this. I hope you enjoy.

Also, I know I’m a little behind on Blind Spots. I decided to switch two chapters around, so the one I thought was gonna come next was mostly written already, and I had to switch to a different chapter to write. I hope to post it by the end of this week.

“The referee blows his whistle! It’s time for intermission, with the Dragons leading 2-1 over the Vikings! Get your drinks and snacks, because it’s gonna be another exciting half in about 20 minutes!” the announcer’s voice echoed through the stadium. All around Astrid Dragons supporters cheered for their team, before getting up to go to the bathroom or grab some soda. The big screens stopped showing the field, and instead started playing commercials for beer and cars.

“You want a drink?” Astrid asked her boyfriend, the rush of the game still racing through her veins.

No response.

There was still something there. Lucas felt it in his bones the second she turned to face him.

He hadn’t been in Riley’s room since before she moved away. Three years later he finds himself falling back into old habits. See, when Riley was away in London it was easy to distract himself. She wasn’t there to hold his gaze or steal his attention away. But now that she was back he found himself looking for her in the halls, watching her across the lunch room, glancing at her during class, things he thought he had gotten out of his system.

He looks around her room, not ready to walk out into the party just yet. She still hadn’t finished unpacking. In the corner were a pile of brown boxes all with miscellaneous labels. He noticed she didn’t have a bay window, although there was a strategically placed lounge chair right in front of one, overlooking the city. Her walls were a faded coral color and her comforter was plain and white with a lace detailing along the hem and on top laid multiple throw pillows of different size, color and texture. It was different than he was used to but still felt like Riley.

One thing in particular catches his eye, on her nightstand there was a copper framed picture leaning up against her alarm clock. He slowly walked over to get a better look at it, his eyes immediately go to Riley. She was wearing a bathing suit, her skin was perfectly tanned like she had been basking in the sun all week and on her face she wore a wide grin. But next to her was someone he didn’t recognize. A guy sat rather close to the stunning brunette, arm draped around her shoulders with his head thrown back with laughter like he had just heard the funniest joke in the world.

For whatever reason it hadn’t occurred to him that while he was moving on with Avery, Riley could’ve been moving on as well and it was apparent in that photo that she had.

She hadn’t heard anything about it until they were all on a variety show. One of the MC’s had been talking about the recent pictures of you and Irene that were floating around the internet.

“What do you guys think?” The MC asked, “I kinda hope they are together, they’d be pretty cute.”

All the girls laughed politely, a few of them looked at Taeyeon to make sure she was okay with what they were saying.

“You guys are pretty good friends with both of them aren’t you? Being label mates and all.” The other MC added in, earning an unsure laugh from a few members.

“Yeah, Y/N and I are pretty close.” Taeyeon agreed, “They’re not dating Irene.” she added politely.

The MC laughed a bit and nodded, “Alright, sorry about that tangent there, let’s move to the next question.”

After the show, Taeyeon walked backstage and was surprised to find that you had been watching the whole thing. When she saw you she walked over to you and wrapped her arms around your waist, resting her head against your shoulder. You hugged her and leaned your head against hers.

“I guess you and Irene are a thing now huh?” She asked looking at you.

“Yeah.” You agreed, laughing lightly, “don’t tell her, but I kind of have a thing for someone else.” You whispered, rubbing her back gently.

The MC who had been teasing about yours and Irene’s relationship walked past, “I guess I was wrong about you and Irene huh?” she asked you with a laugh.

“Yup, Y/N’s all mine.” Taeyeon joked, hugging you a bit tighter.

“On and off camera romance?” Jessica read aloud, showing her sister the caption under one photo that captured you and Solar talking off set.

You walked through the door, your hair still messed up from the photoshoot. You set your bag on the table and walked into the living room, flopping onto the couch next to Jessica. You leaned against her and looked at what she was looking at.

“The photo’s already got out?” You asked, “How? I just did the shoot today.”

“You and your girlfriend are so cute.” Jessica said, showing you all the pictures. “Where’s this Y/N during date nights?”

You lightly hit her leg, and shook your head, “I’ll be there next time you pay me to go on a date.” This time it was her turn to gently push you away from her for a moment before pulling you against her again. She handed the phone back to Krystal, and pulled out her own. You rested your head on her shoulder and watched her take a selfie of the two of you before posting it to snapchat, which earned a questioning look from you and Krystal.

“The cutest couple photos are the ones of real couples.” She explained, proceeding to flop back against the couch and continue to play on her phone.

She finally gave in and pressed on one of them, leading her to a swarm of comments under one of your Instagram posts. She looked through the comments and saw a bunch of hashtags of ship names. She read a few of the comments, trying to figure out who the ship names of. She nodded a bit with a smile before looking at the picture of you and Victoria.

When you walked into the room, she smiled a bit and walked over to you, “You never told me you were dating someone.”

You looked through the fridge and pulled out a soda, you turned back to her and raised your eyebrows. You took a sip of the drink before responding, “I didn’t think I’d have to tell you that I’m dating you.”

“No dummy, I thought you would’ve told me that you’re dating my label mate.” She said waving the picture in front of you.

“Ah yeah, totally slipped my mind.” You said jokingly, “We’ve only been on a few dates, nothing too serious.”

“Next time you should tell me, I could help you plan something.” Sunny said, leaning against you, “I think you could use my help.”

You smiled and kissed the top of her head, “Ouch. Maybe I should just stick to planning dates for my girlfriend, I think I’m pretty good at that.”

“You’re okay.” She said lightly, pulling you into a gentle hug.

Tiffany laughed and hit your arm lightly, “Shut up.” she said shaking her head lightly. “I’m being serious, look you two even have a ship name.”

You turned a bit and looked at her, “Are you okay?” You asked her, the joking tone in your voice gone now. “If this is bugging you, you’d tell me about it right?”

“I want to be able to go on dates with you,” she pouted cutely and looked through the photo’s. “Look how cute these are, I want to go on dates as cute as this.”

“Me too, but we don’t really have an option. Not unless we go public.” You said, lightly kissing her, her pouty face too cute to resist.

“Go public.” Tiffany said, nodding a bit, “That doesn’t sound too bad.”

“Do you want to?” You asked, slightly taken back by her nonchalant attitude. She smiled a bit and nodded, giving you all the confirmation you needed. “Let’s talk to your manager.” you said happily. You paused for a moment and looked back at her with a grin, “Maybe I should thank Chanyeol.”

She ended up being in a similar situation as Taeyeon, the two of you had decided to go on a show together. After a few questions, the conversation had turned to relationships.

“So, as I’m sure you’re aware.” The interviewer began, looking directly at you as he spoke. “There have been some pictures going around of you and Taeyang that have kind of been plastered everywhere. With all these pictures, come some, well, rumors. About the two of dating. I was hoping for you to clear up everything, are you and Taeyang dating?”

You laughed a bit, “No, he’s just a close friend of mine.”

“Aw, are you sure? Some of these pictures kind of make me want to date you. You seem like a cute partner.” He said showing the two of you a few of the pictures going around.

“Y/N is an adorable partner.” Hyoyeon agreed, gently squeezing your hand. A signal that the two of you had previously agreed on, a sign that she was going to do the thing that made you two choose to do an interview in the first place. “Yeah, we’re dating and they have the most adorable habits in the morning.” she finished, earning a curious look from you. The rest of the interview was spent sharing embarrassing stories between the two of you.

She wasn’t really sure how to feel, she knew that there was no way you would do anything to hurt her, but those pictures were not something people easily overlooked. You weren’t even aware that the pictures had even been taken, definitely not that they were plastered all over the internet. So your girlfriends oddly quiet demeanor when you got home felt weird. She had barely said anything to you since the moment you got home. In fact, she had barely been in the room with you, you swore that every time you walked into the room she left. Finally, you had had enough. She had hidden herself in your shared bedroom, and was refusing to come out, so instead you went to her. You had a plate of her favorite food balanced in one hand a a cup of tea in the other, you doing your best not to spoil the stupidly warm drink over your hand. You set the plate and the glass down on the table next to the bed before climbing in next to her. The two of you sat in an air of silence for a few moments before she looked over to you, and finally you spoke.

“You’re mad at me.”

“I don’t know.” Her voice was soft and she lifted her phone to show you all the pictures that had been taken. You looked through them thoughtfully and sighed before putting down the phone.

“You know that I didn’t do anything right? We went out for lunch, but that’s it. I’d never do anything to hurt you.” You said softly.

She didn’t speak, just offering a nod as an answer. “I think I could forgive you.” She said, a small smile playing at her lips.

“Yeah?”

“I dunno, you may have to earn it.”

You smiled, and put your arms around her waist, pulling her closer. “If I have to, I guess I could be nicer.”

She wasn’t upset with you, this was part of your job. You only did the video because it was your job, not because you had feelings for Eric Nam. That’s what she told herself whenever she watched the video, or heard the song, or saw you and Eric talking off screen. Which, whenever that happened, she became pretty clingy. She’d come up and hug you when you were talking to him, resting her head on your shoulder when you and Eric were talking about more song ideas.

You had noticed her slightly odd behavior earlier, but it was most obvious when the two of you had gone home. The ride was nearly silent and she pretty much disappeared when you both got home. You waited outside for awhile, not sure what was bothering her. After awhile you got up and walked to the bedroom, where she was looking through her computer just like she had been for the past few hours.

“What’s bothering you?” You asked, sitting next to her and nudging her gently. “You’ve been acting weird lately.”

You waited for a few moments, not getting a response. You sighed a bit and shook your head, offering her a smile before moving her laptop and tackling her in a hug. You cuddled her tightly.

“I’m not letting go until you’re not mad at me anymore.”

“I’m not mad!” Sooyoung said, giggling a bit when you tickled her. “I just don’t want to lose you to Eric.” she admitted, her voice quieting as she spoke.

You frowned and pulled away, “You’re not gonna lose me to him.” you promised quietly, “I don’t want to be with him. I actually kind of have someone else I’m into."you finished by kissing her head and cuddling her close to you.

She hadn’t mentioned anything about the articles that were popping up after your on screen kiss with Lee Sung Kyung in your new drama. She didn’t want to bug you about it, knowing that it was just your drama. Honestly, had it not been for the articles with your co-star talking about how you were her ideal type none of this would have been a problem, but after all of these articles coming out the kiss went viral. Everyone loved you and her, and the whole thing made her feel uncomfortable, especially when she posted couple pictures with you and there were loads of comments with yours and Sungkyung’s ship name.

After one time where there were a particularly large amount of comments, you had noticed that Yoona seemed kind of down.

"What do you want for dinner?” You asked, looking through the fridge, “We have almost no food, but I think I can make something.”

“I’m not really hungry.” She murmured from the living room.

You turned around and walked over to her, sitting on the couch next to her, “What’s going on? You seem upset.”

“You’re not going to leave me right?” Yoona asked after a few moments of silence, “For Sungkyung?”

You frowned and pulled her into a tight hug, rubbing her back gently, “Of course not. I love you.”

Yoona nodded a bit, cuddled against you gently. “I love you too.”

“So, you’ve seen the pictures right?” You asked, sitting next to her. “‘Cause otherwise, forget I said anything.”

She lightly hit your shoulder and nodded a bit, “I’ve seen them.”

“Okay.” You paused for a moment and an awkward silence fell between the two of you for a few moments.

She looked over grinned at you before nudging you gently, “You guys are so cute!”  she gushed, taking your phone and looking through the pictures. She cuddled closer to you and found one of them, “These are cute, but we have ones that are much cuter.”

You wrapped her arms around her, and kissed her head softly, “Yeah we do.”

She went to your camera roll and picked out a few of the pictures, “I think we should post one of these ones, they’re the cutest ones. What do you think?”

“I like the second, you look the cutest in that one.”

She nodded a bit and went on Instagram, setting everything up before looking at you, “Are you sure you’ll be okay with this?”

“I’m more worried about you, will your manager be okay with that?” You asked quietly.

“Already asked, its a yes.” She murmured before posting the picture.

“I love you.”

“I love you too.”

Riverdale Victorious AU

It was clear to everyone that you and Veronica never got along because of her annoying (or so you thought) attitude, you two just seemed to raise the tension when you were with the gang together.

After a while the gang started to get frustrated with the both of you always bickering over anything from which color Archie’s hair really was to how Betty will probably chose the other if she had to pick and if Jughead will chose burgers over milkshakes or vice versa.

That was when your boyfriend Archie Andrews of a year decided that it was enough and set up a plan for the both of you to get along.

YOUR POV

hey babe meet me at pop’s at 7- archie    6:30

You were confused as to why he wanted to meet you at last minute because the Archie you knew was always on time if he knew he wanted to talk, he would ask way before half an hour. So getting ready in (Y/F/C) top, with black high waisted jeans and your classic (Y/F/C) and black converse, You got in your car and drove to Pop’s which was a five minute drive from where you lived.

When you walked in you could immediately see the raven black hair of Veronica Lodge sitting down with a milkshake in hand, and wore for once and outfit somewhat similar to yours. You went over to her, because truth be told you actually liked her but of course you weren’t gonna admitting that to her.

As soon as you reached her Archie came up to you and without giving you time to talk he drew all the attention to himself from both you and Veronica and said,”You two need to figure out your problems together and the gang and I are getting tired of it so you both are gonna stay here until you figure out both your problems even if the places closes down after,” V replied with,”so what if we both decide to lie and say we made up?” he rolled his hickory eyes and said,”I have eyes everywhere Veronica, plus i will be here away from your eyes,” you raised your eyebrows at the first part only to see Betty and Jughead on two different sides of the room with walkie talkies trying to be discreet but failing, making a sarcastic comment like you always do you said,”Yeah ‘cause by ‘eyes everywhere’ you have a non-discreet Betty and Jughead watching us like hawks,” He slowly nodded his head and pulled you aside with pleading eyes saying, “ (Y/N) please try and do this for me?” “Fine” you said and quickly pecked him on the lips making your way over to her you heard Archie say, “Have fun!”.

So if we both want to get out of here fast lets play a game it’s called compliment each other and make up so we can leave,” V said making you snort, you ordered (Y/F/F) drink for your self and continued complimenting each other, “Well i guess I like your hair,” you said and she continued and so it went on until it was cut short of a asian looking guy annoucing that the karaoke will be ready in 2 minutes, just as he said it two guys walked in whom you did recognize by the names of Reggie Mantle and Chuck Clayton, sat on the either side of you. “Uh Oh” Reggie started, “ Babe sandwich, woahh” they both continued, “So can i buy you a soda,” Reggie asked you but you replied with ‘no’. “So a little birdie told me that you two sing, we wanna hear a little songy song action,” Chuck said smirking, V turned to you and said, “They wanna hear a little songy song action,” she smirked and after 3 seconds you finally realized what was going on and said, “Okay we’ll give you a little songy song action,’’ and smiled.

You two got up from your seats and went to the DJ and V said, “ Hey DJ-” but was cut off by you saying, “-Your breaks over” he looked me up and down and asked, “What do you guys wanna sing?” she looked down in the book and said, “T- 305,” with a smile and the DJ nodded his head.

The music began playing and you two grabbed your mics and you started,

The two of you hugged and you thought ‘maybe being friends with her wasn’t bad’ as you quickly ran to Archie and gave him a bruised kiss as an appreciation for his help but little did you know that she was thinking the same thing.

Party Foul

Theme: Collage AU, (briefly) Fuckboy Jungkook.

It was your typical beginning of the year college party.

My roommate scored an invite from an upperclassman, to which she invited me, and when I expressed my lack of interest in drinking and parties she told me I had to go because I was her designated babysitter for the evening.

“C’mon, someone has to make sure I don’t end up naked on a kitchen table,” she paused, “or end up fair game to every drunk, horny frat boy.” When I ignored her she dropped her arms at her sides with a huff, “Pleeaseee,” she pouted, “Can’t you just like, not drink?” I asked, getting up from my desk. “You know what happens at parties, Y/N. You make a promise not to drink and the next thing you know you wake up the next morning with a wicked hangover in someone else’s bed. Once you step foot into a party your self control goes out the window.” I sighed, “Fine, fine, I’ll go. I’ll make sure you don’t get hammered and that you come home.” She grinned, clasping her hands together. “You’re the best!” “I know.”

I started getting ready, “Are you going all out?” I asked, glancing over at my roomie who was frantically sorting through clothes. “Well duh, is there any other way to dress for a party?” she giggled, pulling out a skin tight maroon tube dress and a black shawl, “Does that mean I have to go all out?” I asked, watching her pick up a pair of black lacey heels. “Well yeah, you have to look hot too, it’s like a girl code.”  “I guess I missed out on reading the bitch bible.” I chuckled.

I changed into a purple tank top that plunged into a deep v, tucking it into a leather mini skirt. I slipped on my leather jacket and started to put on my heeled boots, “Hey Vi, do you have lip gloss I can use? Preferably clear or lightly tinted.” “Yeah, here,” she came out of the bathroom, I looked up at her as I was zipping the side of my boot, “Wow Vi, you look-” “Hot? I know, and so do you, and kind of badass at the same time.” She winked at me as she handed me her lip gloss, “Thanks,” I grinned.

-

As soon as we arrived I regretted it, but seeing as we were already here it was too late to back out, plus I would have a guilty conscious if she did something embarrassing and I wasn’t here to stop it.

We both walked into the crowded living area, arm in arm, she turned to grin at me, “I know you don’t want to be here but thank you for coming with me.” I sighed and rolled my eyes playfully, “Yeah yeah,” She swatted my arm, breaking away from me to go grab a drink. I looked around, seeing a few familiar faces from my classes or around campus, my gaze falling on a particular face, one that belonged to none other than Jeon Jungkook- college fuckboy. I watched as he was engaged in a conversation with a few other boys, shaking his dark fringe out of his eyes. He was breathtakingly gorgeous, I admit. He brought a bottle of beer up to his lips, taking a sip, I traced his jawline with my eyes as he tilted his head back, then I found myself staring at his adams apple as he swallowed.

I released the breath I was holding, cringing at the fact I just gawked at him in spite of disliking him. I wandered off to the kitchen, hopefully to find a bottle of water or something else non-alcoholic. When I arrived in the kitchen I saw Vi standing in the corner talking to the guy who invited her, drink in hand- that’s right a drink, no alcohol- I took note that the drinks were being managed by someone. “Hey do you have anything without alcohol?” I asked, the drink tender flashed me a smile, “Designated driver?” I nodded, “Yeah something like that,” I smiled, looking over the array of alcohol displayed on the table. “We have bottled water, cherry pepsi, annnd, well yeah that’s the safe stuff.” he gave a soft laugh, “So what will it be, hun?” he asked, a rectangle grin spreading across his face. “Can I have cherry pepsi, please.” I gave him my best charming smile, to which he somehow smiled wider, “Of course, one cherry pepsi for the lady.” he handed me a can.

“Hey Tae can you hand me another beer?” Someone asked, coming up from behind me, I moved to the side to get out of his way, “Sure thing, Jeon.” I looked up at him, seeing it was, in fact Jeon, the same person I had been embarrassingly gawking at upon my arrival. “Here you go, one beer.” The drink tender, Tae, said.

“Staring isn’t polite,” Jeon said, winking and flashing me a smirk as he walked away. “You don’t stare you observe,” Vi said, coming up and draping an arm around me, “I don’t like what I’m observing so far.” I said throwing her a look, she gave me a smile and a squeeze, “Tae, was it? Hit me with a shot.” She said, “Please,” I elbowed her, “Please,” she mocked with a smile. Tae handed her a shot and she threw it back, and handed him the glass. She started to walk away, towards the living room, “Behave yourself,” I called out, she threw her hand up in a wave, acknowledging she heard me. “Ohh, you’re the designated babysitter,” Tae said, giving me a teasing smile. “Yeah, I always am,” I said, popping the tab on my soda, “Can’t you guys like, rock-paper-scissors it out?” he asked, wiping out the shot glass Vi just used. “Well I don’t drink so, there isn’t a point in arguing.” I said, taking a sip. “Ahh, I see~” he said, stacking the little glass with the others. “I’m going to go follow her around, I’ll probably be back for water soon,” I said, he gave me a half smile, raking his gaze down my figure, “Alrighty~ please do.”

I wandered back out to the living area, looking around for Vi, but I don’t see her. I groaned internally, walking further into the hoard of people.

Great now I have to go on a goose hunt.

I stop at the bottom of the stairs, looking up at the hallway of doors.

There’s no way she’s that drunk yet.

“Looking for someone?” The voice I recognized as Jeon’s asked from behind me, I turned to face him. “Yeah…my friend disappeared.” I mumbled, walking back towards the crowd, “And who is that?” he asked, following close behind. “Tight red dress, long dark hair.” “Vi?” he asked, “She’s outback,” he said, “Oh, Thanks~” I said throwing him a small smile over my shoulder, pushing my way to the outside.

I broke through the crowd, ending up on the back porch. “Wow it’s so much cooler out here,” I whispered to myself, taking off my jacket to allow the cool air to get to my back and arms. “woohoo! take! it! off!” Vi said, coming up to pull me over to a beer pong set up. “Alright so, you’re gonna throw the balls into the cups and this nice guy is gonna drink whatever you score.” she said, gesturing to some random guy who was eyeing her up with a creepy grin. “What.” I gave her a blank look, “why?” “Because you have good aim, so you’re gonna win for me,” she said, “Win? You can’t win at beer pong.” I said, glancing at the table of cups, noticing they’re arranged in triangles, the top point of the triangles connecting with the same cup. “You do when you go against someone.” She said, grinning at me, I groaned, “What if I lose?” I asked, hoping she didn’t bet herself. “Whatever the winner wants, and it goes for you too. But the catch is you do it blindfolded, from 5 feet away, and you can’t land in your own cups.” she explained quickly, “That’s kind of complicated.” “You’ll do great,” She said, grabbing both my shoulders.

-

She put the blindfold on, and positioned me, and one after one handed me the pingpong balls.

After what felt like forever, which was actually only 20 some minutes, she took off my blindfold, “Do you want the good news or bad news?” She asked, cringing when I gave her a pointed look. “Bad news,” I said, glaring at her. “You lost…by one ball.” “Okay, good news?” I asked with a sigh. “The person you lost against is totally hot, so take advantage of this situation and get your groove on.” I nodded, “Great. You bet me to be fair game with some horny frat guy, which I’m here to protect you from.” I scoffed, narrowing my eyes at her. “He isn’t creepy or weird! Plus it was his idea, so be mad at him,” she said, pointing to my competitor. I glanced over to see Jeon, with a smug look on his face. She lent in to whisper to me, “He’s really sexy and girls throw themselves at him all the time, but he specifically requested to play with you,” she pulled away, winking at me. “Was that your attempt at making me feel okay with this?” I asked, an amused grin tugged at the corner of my mouth, “You’re really fucking lucky I love you, Vi.” I shook my head.

“Alright kid, let’s get this over with.” I said, giving him a grin as walked over to him. “What is it you want? 7 minutes in heaven? A dance? ” I asked, stopping in front of him. He tilted his head to the side and grinned, I couldn’t help but to feel like I was suddenly under a magnifying glass. I nervously scratched the inside of my palm. “How about we just see where the night goes,” he ducked his head to be level with me, “I know you don’t drink, but you suggested a dance, let’s start with that?” He asked, giving me an alluring look. “Okay, a dance works,” I answered. “Then, shall we?” he gestured towards the house, “Sure, I’m gonna grab a bottle of water first,” I said, starting off towards the house, giving Vi one last look.

I stopped in front of Tae and his table of drinks, “Hey, love~” he greeted me with a smile, “Well aren’t you sweet on the ladies.” I smiled back, meeting his eyes, “What can I get you?” “What do I want or what did I come to get?” I joked, “How about both and we’ll meet in the middle.” he flashed me a grin, “Well I want four shots of vodka, but I’ll settle for water, they’re both clear, it’s a good compromise.” I gave a soft smile. “Is the party getting to be too much for you?” he asked, pulling a bottle of water out of a cooler under the table. “Yeah I got caught up in something I didn’t ask to be a part of,” I took the bottle from him, pressing it to the side of my face. “Well I am the ‘bar tender’, and bar tenders are basically therapists, want to tell me about it?” he asked, tilting his head to the side with a soft smile. “Well, my friend bet me in a game of beer pong and lost,” I said, running a hand through my hair, “And now I have to play some college version of seven minutes of heaven.” I chuckled, looking down at my feet.

“It’s Jeon, isn’t it?” He asked, a grin splaying across his lips. I looked at him, “I’m guessing this happens a lot,” I said, “He’s known for pulling stupid party tricks like this, usually he picks the willing ones, the ones that throw themselves at his feet.” Tae said, leaning against the counter. “Usually? Implying it’s different this time,” I questioned, also leaning on the counter.

Tae took a step towards me and leaned in slightly, like he was about to tell me a secret.

“Well, you’re…different.” He said, “that meaning?” I asked, furrowing my eyebrows in question. “You aren’t just some party slut, you’re out of your element here and from what I’ve heard from Vi you don’t fall easy prey to ‘horny frat boys’ at ‘annoying back to campus parties’ and you don’t drink- and as a result of that you don’t think there’s a reason to come to parties because you don’t get anything out of it.” he smiled, scanning my face, I opened my mouth to ask how he knew that, “I have class with her, she was telling me all morning about how she was going to have to beg to get you here, and let’s be honest, she’s kind of an over sharer, so.” he gave me a reassuring pat on the arm. “So, how do I fit into his game then?” I asked, glancing over my shoulder towards the living room- where I’m supposed to be right now. “Because you’re hot and you aren’t interested in him so it’s his goal to change that,” Tae said, also glancing at the living room. “So it’s all a game,” he laughed, “I’m gonna let you in on a little secret,” He said, “He cheats at whatever party game he plays, the blind fold he used in the beer pong game, it’s thin enough to be see through if it’s pulled tight enough, it’s all rigged so he can’t lose,” he finished, grinning at my shocked expression. “I’m going to kick his ass,” I said, shaking my head as I laughed lightly.

I thought for a second about his ridiculousness, before I hatched a plan, “You know Tae,” I started, glancing over my shoulder again, “I’m going to play my own little game,” I said, smirking at him. “I don’t know what you’re thinking but I’m in.” I shared my plan with Tae, “I like the way you think,” He said, “Thanks, love,” I said, winking, before leaving to find Jeon.

I found him in the living room, talking to some other guys, I approached him with a smile, “Sorry I got caught up,” I said, giving a polite smile to his friend. “I was starting to think you bailed,” he said, snaking an arm around my waist and pulling me against him, “I’ll catch up to you later, I have a date to dazzle,” Jeon said, pulling me away from his friend to the middle of the dancing crowd.

We danced for an hour, we danced all sorts of dirty, bumping and grinding, roaming hands. I turned around to face him, running my hands up his chest, shoulders, the back of his neck and through his hair. His hands slid from my hips down to my butt; I gave a breathy chuckle, “Someone’s handsy,” I whispered in his ear, leaning in close enough for my lips to brush against his ear. “What’s dirty dancing without a little touching?” He whispered back, trailing kissed from my ear towards my mouth, I placed a finger between our lips before they could touch. He smirked at me, pulling me closer somehow, even though we were already pressed flush together, “Don’t be a tease,” He said, pulling my hand away and kissing the back of it. “What if I don’t want to kiss you?” I asked, tilting my head to the side with a smirk. “Well then that’s a party foul,” He said, smirking back. “No, you know what’s a party foul?” I asked, leaning up to nip at his bottom lip, he let out a shaky breath, gripping my hips tightly, “Cheating at beer pong cause you knew I’d reject you.” I chuckled, unwrapping my arms from him, and stepping away. He gawked at me for a solid minute, before he spoke, “How did you- wait, wait, wait, so wait. Does this mean that this whole hour of you dancing with me was just to get me all worked up so you leave me?” He asked, staring at me in disbelief, “How does it feel to get played for once, Jeon?” I asked, giving him a teasing smile before walking away. “How does it feel to be a bitch?” He called after me, to which I just threw my hand up in acknowledgement.

I wandered through the house and eventually outside, looking for Vi. I noticed on my way through the house Tae was missing from the table, I frowned, wanting to share how my plan went. Once I breached the crowd and landed back on the porch I looked around, spotting Vi sitting the lap of some guy. I cringed and started off towards her, I was stopped when a figure lurch towards me from the side, grabbing my arm. I whipped my head over as I pulled my arm out of the person’s grasp, prepared to snap at whoever it was that grabbed me. Tae stood there, with his hands up defensively “Hey, I’m sorry I shouldn’t have grabbed you like that, I just wanted to catch you before you stepped off of the porch.” He said, a nervous smile tugged at the corners of his mouth. “No, no it’s okay you just scared the hell out of me,” I laughed, bringing a hand up to cover my face, slightly embarrassed. “I’m sorry, I didn’t mean to scare you.” he chuckled, “Well you’re outside so I’m guessing the plan went?” he asked, his lips turning into a sly grin. “It went,” I smiled, pleased with myself.

“And??” He asked, “I want details, love.” he grinned at me as he ushered me to follow him to the wicker love seat on the porch, I sat and looked over to make sure I could still see Vi. “Okay so like we danced for like a whole god damn hour, and eventually he started getting touchy so I figured it was time-” I told him the run down of what happened, slowly the biggest grin stretched over his mouth and he let out a laugh, “Well aren’t you a little savage,” He smiled at me, “Sometimes,” I admitted, looking back in Vi’s direction, she was still seated on someone’s lap. “She has a class at 8am, it’s almost 2, I should take her home…” I said, furrowing my eyebrows as I looked at Vi. “I know I have that unnecessarily early class with her.” He sighed, I stood up and smoothed out my skirt, “I’ll see you around,” I looked back at Tae who was still seated, “See you around~” he smiled at me. I walked over to Vi, setting a hand on her shoulder, “Hey we should go, you have to get up early hun,” I said, she groaned at me, “Fine fine,” she waved my hand away. I looked back towards the house in time to see Jeon walk out, immediately spotting Tae and walking over to him, Tae saw him coming towards him and stood up, greeting him with a crooked grin. Vi got up, much to this guys displeasure, fixed her dress and wrapped her shawl around herself. She wobbled a bit as she walked back towards the house, I stood close behind her so I could grab her if she tumbled.

As I climbed the steps of the porch I looked over at Tae, who locked eyes with me instantly. He gave me a wink and then he slapped his hand on Jeon’s shoulder, “Jeon Jungkook got his ass handed to him by a girl,” I almost stopped in my tracks as I looked back over with wide eyes, I saw Jeon lightly push him just before I walked through the back door, stretching my arm out to grab Vi’s shawl so I wouldn’t lose her in the crowd.

When we got home I kicked off my boots with ease where as Vi struggled to not fall on her face as she tried to take hers off, once she got them off she carefully walked towards our small sofa and flopped down on it. “I saw that you spent like 90% of the party either stalking me or chatting with that drink guy,” she said, I nodded, “Well stalking you was my job, remember?” I said, arching an eyebrow at her. “I know,” she said, yawning, “He was cute wasn’t he,” she gave me a lazy smile. “I mean yeah he was nice to look at but I’d rather peel my face off than to be around him,” I said with a light chuckle. “uhm you were basically flirting with him all night?!” she said, sitting up to look at me. “Jeon?” I asked, unzipping my skirt down its side. “No no! The drink dude,” she said, flopping back down. “Oh…Tae, yeah he was sweet.” I said, smiling to myself. “Hmm Tae, Tae…Tae,” she said his name a few times, “I’ll remember for next time,” she said, pulling the blanket off of the back of the couch covering herself with it.

Two days later I’m standing in the college library, walking through the rows of books, looking for the religion section.

I saw someone pushing a cart of books and I walked towards them.

Maybe the employee can point me towards the religion isle.

I walked around the corner of the isle, realizing the employee pushing the cart was Tae. I grinned and walked up to the cart, purposely picking up the book he had been reaching for. “Hey you,” I smiled at him, examining the back cover of the book I had picked up, “Somehow I feel like biochemics isn’t something you’d be into.” he said, leaning his elbows on the cart, smiling at me. “It’s not,” I placed the book back on the cart, “You work here?”  I asked, he grinned, “Nah I just volunteer, why?” he tilted his head to the side, “Would you mind showing me where I would find the religion area?” I asked, he nodded, “Sure thing, right this way hun,” he smiled at me, pushing off the cart and walking off, leaving the cart in the middle of an isle. “Why religion?” he asked, glancing back at me, “I’m a religion studies major,” I said, reaching out to run my fingers along the spines of the books. “Ahh, why that major?” he asked, turning down an isle, and stopping. “I like to learn about religions, their similarities and differences and such.” I answered, running a hand through my hair.

“Sounds pretty interesting,” he said, a smile forming on his lips, “I think it is,” I smiled as I looked at the rows of books. “Hey, just a heads up, there’s a party on Friday, Vi is going to try and talk you into going,” he said, “Well then I’ll probably end up going.” I said, looking up at him.

“Are you going to be there?” I asked, tilting my head to the side and cocking an eyebrow, “I will be,” he said, a smirk tugged at his lips, “Are you going to be playing bar tender again?” I asked, taking the time to actually look at his face. He was cute, he had warm brown eyes and tan skin kissed by the gods themselves, he had a cute freckle on his nose, and pretty pink lips. “No, I’m just attending,” he said, “If you want to talk to someone who isn’t wasted, you can always come find me~” he said, giving me a wink as he walked off. I smiled to myself as I looked at the books for the ones I wanted.

I might enjoy this next party, after all
