Hi! May I ask for some book recs? I'm looking for something to read and you seem like you'd have a few favorites to recommend ^^ They can be any genre, Im open to anything!

OH BOY IT’S MY FAVOURITE TIME OF THE YEAR: BOOK RECCING TIME

there will probably be some duplicates from previous rec lists i’ve done but i’ll base this mostly on things i’ve read relatively recently. there’ll be a big mix of genres since some of it is stuff i read for school too.

right now i’m reading “at the mouth of the river of bees” by kij johnson. it’s a short story collection. i’m only halfway through but it’s been fascinating enough for me to rec it if you’re into fantasy or short stories or whatever! my favourite so far has been “story kit”.

other recs:

1. darker shades of magic series by v.e. schwab. fantasy trilogy (with lgbt characters) about magical londons and the people who can travel between. also, pirates and princes. i’ve only read the first two but i’ve been blown away so far!

2. six of crows/crooked kingdom by leigh bardugo. fantasy ya (with lgbt characters) about 6 assholes pulling off a heist. definitely one of the best series i’ve ever read, i’m still processing crooked kingdom weeks after i finished it.

3. the things they carried by tim o’brien. connected short story collection based on the writer’s experiences in vietnam – kind of. this book has a lot to say about how stories work and perspective and how we engage with stories. this is something i read for class and it’s hard going sometimes but definitely worth it.

4. soulless by gail garriger. steampunk fantasy about a woman without a soul solving mysteries with werewolves and vampires. honestly just a really fun read more than anything but if you’re interested in steampunk this is one of the important novels.

5. the darkest part of the forest by holly black. ya fantasy (with lgbt characters) about a brother and sister and the sleeping prince in the forest. if you like fairy tales or stories about the fae, the traditional kind where they don’t give a fuck about you, read this.

6. the woman in white by wilkie collins. victorian sensationalist novel! about a dude who gets caught up in a mystery involving a woman in white and her doppelgänger. one of my favourite victorian novels i’ve read.

Do you have a list of your favorite romantic comedies directed by women? If not, would you be interested in making one? Or just naming a few of the less well-known ones?

Yes! Rom coms are actually one of my favourite genres. I see way too many people saying “Oh rom coms are a tired awful genre” but that’s only true of studio rom coms which tend to mostly be horrible and sexist. There are a lot of indie writer/directors keeping the genre alive.

I made a list of 14 rom coms for Valentine’s. Also for people who are in the mood for drama I also have a list of 14 romantic dramatic films

Hey there stranger!
So about me…I’m currently in my first year after finishing high school. I’ve differed from University (but when I was going I was studying double degree Commerce and Arts), I basically differed to work, travel and find myself (what a cliche’ but oh well). So atm I work in retail part time and spend the rest of my time with visiting my older sisters, hanging out with my friends, planning my trip to Europe and South America for September (so a fellow travel or someone in these areas would be bloody amazing) and just generally living it up as a gap year leech on my parents.
My personality type is ENFJ-T (the protagonist) and I feel like it completely just sums me up. My main hobbies are playing guitar (though I’m self taught and still learning so I’m pretty crumby), and hanging out with my friends ,and watching tv shows (if those last two are even considered hobbies ahahhah). I literally have seen every tv show ever and I love to talk about them my top ones are probably The Office, Shameless, Game of Thrones, Friends, Girls, Greys Anatomy, Riverdale, Brooklyn Nine Nine, Parks and Rec, How to Get Away with Murder, Offspring and Pretty Little Liars (until the final seasons, bc lets all agree that was a shambles in seasons 5-7). I also love movies…I won’t bother naming favourites though because there is too many, however my favourite genres are romance, rom-coms, comedies, disney classics and indie films. As for music I love different songs in all genres and I would describe my taste as like songs that make you feel something or make you feel like that the feelings you already have are in other people - again here I love love love if you want to discuss music and we can trade suggestions!
I guess I’m looking for a penpal because I just feel like it would be nice to know people who don’t live in my town and who my family and friends don’t know…so that I get not only learn about their culture but also so we could just talk so freely and openly and if one of us is feeling down then we can talk about it together or if something great happens we can share it with each other or if we are in a sticky situation and don’t know what to do then we can talk to each other without like the worry of judgement or telling other people. I just think it could be a great friendship across the world and make life that little bit less miserable for each other.
Look forward to hearing from you…hopefully ;) !

Preferences: Nothing strict, just more looking for someone aged close to me 16-26

is this a weird question to ask?? but honestly, what are YOUR favorite types of fics? not your favorite actual fics since we already have a list for that, but the type? :)

Hmm… I really read anything and everything that captures my attention! I guess tend to gravitate to more contemporary works (“real life”) and canon divergence fics, but I also really like the royalty, fantasy, and action genres too!

My favourite AUs are the different occupation (so anywhere from musicians to CEOs to florists… basically having any other job but skating!) and college/university AUs, but I also like a ton of other AUs, too! (Basically every list I’ve done is a AU that I like!)

I am a sucker for domestic fluff, angst, and humor! Anything with cuddly victuuri living together melts me omg

anonymous asked:

could you recommend any gay romance books? of any other genre too not just romance?

MY FAVOURITE THING.

Here are some LGBT+ books I have read and loved:

  • The Darkest Part of the Forest by Holly Black
  • Sappho’s Fables - three novellas- by Elora Bishop and Jennifer Diemer (they are together in real life)
  • The Book of Lost Things (LGBT is a very small part of it but the LGBT relationship made me sob)
  • Ash by Malinda Lo
  • Kissing the Witch by Emma Donoghue (short story collection, some are hetero, some are LGBT+)
  • Fun Home by Allison Bechdel
  • Orlando by Virginia Woolf
  • Crush by Richard Siken (this is a book is poetry but is wonderful)
  • Fatal Shadows by Josh Layton (this is pretty much Sterek)
  • The Incarnations by Susan Barker (I really urge you to read this one)

LGBT+ books on my to read list:

  • Carry on by Rainbow Rowell
  • Paying Guests by Sarah Waters
  • Captive Prince by  C.S. Pacat
  • Huntress by Malinda Lo (prequel to Ash)
  • Song of Achilles by Madeline Miller
  • The Art of Being Normal by Lisa Williamson
  • More Than This by Patrick Ness
  • Love Starved by Kate Fierro

I am forgetting tons, sorry sweet anon. I know I’ve read more. However, most of the books I can think of only feature LGBT+ couples or characters, rather than focusing on them (go figure), so I actually know way less than I thought I did. Then again, thanks to uni I’ve not a read a book of my own choosing in 5 years so *pats self on back for remembering what I did*.

If anyone has favourite LGBT+ books, please leave them in the replies! I love being recced books <3<3<3

I am a huge stationery and craft nerd, with a particular love of pot plants. I love music, I play the flute, saxophone and bass, I also spend way too long listening to music. My favourite genres are punk, indie, alternative rock. I’m also a huge movie junkie, and I will not hesitate to get into a lively debate about movies. Finally, I absolutely love photography and spend way too much time taking, editing and/or developing.

Preferences: I would be open to people of any age, but I would much rather someone under the age of 18.

My favorite genre is young adult, and that's pretty much all I read, but I want to try different genres. Are there any specific books of others genres (e.g. classics, mystery etc) you'd recommend that are easy to read/not too long. Thanks! :)

Hello! My favourite genre is also young adult, but I have read outside of that a little bit.

I don’t really branch out of Young Adult much either, so maybe some of my followers have some suggestions?
