my favorite in the book so far

One of my favorite chapters from this book so far is “Freya’s Unusual Wedding” where Thor dresses up as a woman in wedding clothing to trick an Ogre in order to get Mjollnir, his hammer, back.

“Lion the cat sits upon Rebecca’s chart of the Steven Universe universe, unaware of its power”

I haven’t read through the whole book yet, but this is my favorite page so far… i think the cat is perfectly aware… just look at the evil grin !!

(Picture and text from the Steven Universe: Art & Origins book)

“They named him Tiberias, as was the custom. Corinne didn’t care for the name, but acquiesced at Tibe’s request, and the assurance that they would name the next after Julian. He was a fat baby, smiling early, laughing often, growing bigger by leaps and bounds. She nicknamed him Cal to distinguish him from his father and grandfather. It stuck.”
— (Queen Song, page 51)

Okay but can we just take a second I’m just reading City of Glass and Clary made this Rune that lets people see the one person who they love most in the world and yeah to Luke Clary looked like Jocelyn and bla bla BUT CAN WE TALK ABOUT HOW ALEC LOOKED KINDA CONFUSED FROM CLARY TO MAGNUS AND THEN BACK TO CLARY AGAIN BECAUSE CLARY WASN’T LOOKING LIKE JACE OR HIS PARENTS OR IZZY TO HIM BUT SHE LOOKED LIKE MAGNUS EXCUSE ME WHILE I GO THROW MYSELF OFF A BUILDING

Since the Eldest Curses is an adult series I doubt that my parents would get the books for me anytime soon !so I was wondering if my lack of knowledge (about the trilogy ) would mean that I wouldn't exactly understand the happenings of TDA,TLH and TWP. Will I miss out on alot ? Thxx

No. We're very aware that some teens won’t be able to read an “adult” series (though it’s no racier than plenty of adult books that cross over to young adult audiences, the characters do have sex.) Therefore anything in it that’s immensely significant to the overall plot of the Shadowhunter books will simply be mentioned in TDA or TWP. It’s not as if Magnus and Alec aren’t also in those.

Mostly TEC is about spending more time with Magnus and Alec, deepening our knowledge of them as characters, and enjoying adventures with them. Remember that both the first and second books of TEC take place before the beginning of TDA and you will already have read 2/3 of TDA when you read them. If you have understood TDA so far, is it likely you’ll stop understanding it because TEC got published?

You can read TID without TMI, TDA without TID. All the Chronicles interlock but none render other series incomprehensible. People read TDA without TMI and understand it fine. I do think reading them all deepens understanding and enjoyment but it isn’t required.

(I hope your parents don’t keep you away from everything in the “adult” section since that’s just the “fiction” section. Jane Eyre, Lord of the Rings, Catch-22 – half my favorite books when I was a teen were technically “adult”!)

Little Boxes

So this is my favorite project I am working on. It will be the most time consuming but also the funnest.

Little Boxes. Boys and Girls. Everything you could possibly need and completely customized.

In each box they will have a onesie & overalls for the boy boxes. For the girls you will have a choice of overalls, tutu or suspender skirt with your onesie. (Also boys can buy girl boxes and so on but I felt it was really important to have a representation for the Little Boys).
A customized pacifier
Sippy cup
Stuffie
Coloring Book
& collectable toy like a pop keychain or mystery pack something fun like that.

I wanted to make something fun and unique so you can have a little outfit/matching pacifier that is unique to you and only you and like one other person own. All made to order and handmade with you in mind.

And when picking out what box you want you will have a choice of theme. So far my ideas are ;

Kingdom Hearts
Anime
Magical Girl
Steampunk
Doctor Who
Unicorns
Sailor Moon
Comic Books (Superheros)
Pokemon (Will inform me of your favorite pokemons)
Disney Princess (Your favorite princesses will be inspiration)
Gothic

Okay so I guess the reason I wrote all this was to share my ideas set to come out with my shop opening this fall but also to get your input, maybe some things you think would work, some ideas for themes you would like, or something you don’t think would work. (:

lgbt+ (ya/mg) books read in 2016!

so a lot of people still reblog my “60+ queer books” post from 2014. ngl, i was barely 16 at the time and had not read a lot of books on that list (it was def intended to be more a listing than pure recommendation), mostly because adult fiction was and remains far from my favorite literary category. this list isn’t as intensely detailed, but i just thought that since the year is over i might jot down some of the lgbt+ books i loved or at least moderately enjoyed this year, in case anyone was interested! happy reading!

(and in advance, excuse my commentary o<-<)

ya favorites

  • i’ll give you the sun by jandy nelson — m/m. HEART-WRENCHING. GUTTING. EARTH-SHATTERING.
  • we are the ants by shaun david hutchinson m/m (suicide cw)
  • my most excellent year by steve kugler m/m. gay asam main character and the best character dynamics ❤️____❤️
  • the flywheel by erin gough f/f
  • gives light (6-part series) by rose christo — m/m. centered around a mute main character on an indian reservation (written by a native author!), features one of the most uplifting romances of recent media (cw for csa mention later in the series)

other ya books
ordered approximately by rating

  • far from you by tess sharpe — f/f. bisexual protagonist (drug addiction, murder cw) a book on recovery, love, trust, justice, understanding… gut punch!!!!!
  • into the blue by pene henson — m/m
  • not your sidekick by c.b. lee — f/f. DOES THE TITLE NOT MAKE UR HEART SQUEEZE ALREADY? features half-chinese & half-vietnamese bisexual protagonist in futuristic superheroic universe! the second book will be about a trans black side character *___*
  • starting from here by lisa jenn bigelow — f/f. you will cry and be made a better person for it.
  • almost like being in love by steve kugler — m/m
  • tell me again how a crush should feel by sara farizan— f/f. sometimes this book is like :|||| but sometimes it’s like :DDDD! persian american protagonist.
  • the darkest part of the forest by holly black — both m/f and m/m (like i’ll give you the sun). for your slightly more indulgent ya needs!
  • you know me well by nina lacour, david levithan — f/f, m/m
  • the great american whatever by tim federle — m/m. if you enjoy mg or find its lgbt+ subsection especially important (or both, like me!), definitely make sure you check out federle’s better nate than ever series!
  • last seen leaving by caleb roehrig — m/m
  • wonders of the invisible world by christopher barzak — m/m. magical realism fix may be found here 👍
  • true letters from a fictional life by kenneth logan — m/m. tbh people call it the “male version of ‘to all the boys i’ve loved before’” but also neglect mentioning that it’s a lot whiter, too. where’s that supportive covey family goodness… that precocious but caring lara jean spirit? it’s just not there…
  • colorblind by siera maley — f/f
  • her name in the sky by kelly quindlen — f/f
  • radio silence by alice oseman — f/f, m/m, not hugely romance-focused

middle grade
there were very few releases this year that i was aware of, unfortunately! my old list’s selection remains a good place to look. here are 3 that i would recommend though:

(i think i might have read george in 2015, but i felt that i might as well put them all together!)

  • george by alex gino — follows the story of a trans girl. its storyline is similar to gracefully grayson, but unlike gg it is written by a trans author!
  • the other boy by m.g. hennessey — follows the story of a trans boy. pretty solid story except… uncalled for random racist comment in the middle of the book… wyd (waiting for the mg genre to grow more inclusive of lgbt+ children of color! not being racially hostile is the FIRST STEP.)
  • gracefully grayson by ami polansky

+ A GRAPHIC NOVEL MOST OF U HAVE PROBABLY READ ALREADY: LUMBERJANES!! love it breathe it read it

if you want some mg books that have casually gay side/main-ish characters, i can name the wolf wilder and the thing about jellyfish, although… you have to kind of dig for it, so i wouldn’t call these revolutionary moments of representation, but! it’s just a nice addition to separate stories that remind you that the middle grade genre can be inclusive w/o becoming entirely issue-based (which i find sometimes more inaccessible for children? i ramble!). i do believe it’s good for young children to read this kind of fiction, too!

__

finally, some lgbt+ books i did not enjoy or care for in any capacity, for posterity: highly illogical behavior (gross narrative surrounding mental health, sexuality), symptoms of being human (ya book abt a nonbinary character; written by cis author who bscly uses sexual assault as plot device & doesn’t acknowledge neutral pronouns?), know not why (really unapologetically homophobic tbh), whatever.: or how junior year became totally f$@ked, more happy than not (so… bleak…), see you at harry’s, and lily and dunkin (this is the fourth mg book about a trans character that i’m aware of; i found its message hugely alarming and invalidating). that doesn’t mean you won’t enjoy them, though!

Manon was by far my favorite in EoS. She has been since QoS, so I will be drawing her more I suspect, but for now, here she is on the ship !

I’ll admit, I lost motivation for this a little as it was so much work - painting all the wood, although therapeutic, gave me a headache and so by the time I got to painting her I was just like MEH. Anyway…

Character copyright of Sarah J Maas.

im gonna type the whole song from memory ok

hey, i need ur help. i had this idea for a book and i don't rlly know if it's good? so the idea came bc of my physics teacher, he talked about that the sun would just explode one day and i thought, why not make a story out of it? so i thought about the main character living in a futuristic sci-fi world (it would be a million years from now) and they all lnow that the sun will explode some day not far from now. when it finally happens, the main charakter and a few others can flee on a space (1)

Advice for all writers:

  • Nothing is original. Nothing. Not even your favorite book/movie/TV show
  • All ideas are bad until they are written
  • All ideas are a failure that will bankrupt you until they don’t
  • Do not pitch your book idea before you’ve written it
  • Do not seek justification, approval, or permission to write your idea
  • Assume your idea has been done before and done better and DO IT ANYWAY

This is how writing works, otherwise we’d have three books, two TV shows, and one movie in the entire world.

That is my advice. Now WRITE.

Went to a new bookstore and got A Gathering of Shadows by V.E Schwab and I am so excited to begin reading it! I am reading Emma by Jane Austen for my English class and all I want to read is fantasy!!

                                      What is your favorite genre?

I am taking a TON of photos for the booklr today and I am so excited about how they are turning out so far!

Surprises || Peter Parker x reader

Request: Okay so like either peter x reader or spideychelle with #5 and #17 I know it’s a hard combo but?🤷🏾‍♀️ (anonymous)

Prompts: “I don’t like the way he was looking at you.” & “It was supposed to be a surprise!”

Warnings: some swearing, angst

Word Count: 2.8k of angst ;)

Summary: After learning of Peter’s alter-ego at a failed party, will you still have the courage to confess your feelings?

A/N: the middle part of this story plays into the scene in sm:h when Peter and Ned attend LIz’s party. and this is so far my personal favorite in writings i’ve done!

MJ was with them, reading a book and seeming to ignore then when you knew she was soaking everything up just to tell you. You sighed, placing your head in your hands. “It’s not even my party, Liz. It’s yours!” You said. “Yes, well, he’s your best friend. And if you don’t invite him, you’re uninvited.” She sassed. You rolled your eyes, “Fine. But if he says no, I’m saying I told you so.” You said, getting up from your seat and walking over to Peter’s.

Hello Cosmere Fandom, long no time no talk?

Okay so none of you probably remember me cause I was only active in the fandom for a few months like, two years ago? Nearly three years? Well shit. ANYWAYS. Felt like dropping in to say hello, cause I remember you guys, and i know CFSBF and I miss it.

So recently my boyfriend started reading The Way of Kings, and it’s kind of the best thing ever. Because it’s my favorite book and I’m now rereading, for a seventh time cause I love it just that much. He’s been sending me little updates and I decided to screenshot them and share them with you for reasons. So, I guess the following pictures contain vagueish spoilers for Way of Kings? Gonna put the rest under a cut cause there’s a looot of them.

Finals week went well! I’m glad I decided to do six week courses because there’s still summer left! And, Theresa and I are officially rising seniors now. I’m more excited for my last year than I thought I would be. There is the fact that I’m just ready to be done with Pitt, but I’m also kind of excited for all the last times. After I had that meeting with my advisor a few weeks ago and we discussed what I should do after I graduate it became more real. I was scared for a few weeks (I mean, I still am) about how after this year I’m supposed to be an active independent member of society, or at least that’s my goal. Now that my classes are over and I’m purely focused on my final year, it just hit me harder.

I went to Ohio last weekend for Cleveland pride and it was awesome. I also went to my friend Anthony’s Fam Fest, which is a type of family reunion. It was fun, and I was happy that I didn’t have to worry about doing homework when I came back for the week. I went up on Saturday and I was supposed to return on Sunday, but my bus got cancelled. So, I ended up having an extra day to spend with another one of my friends who lives in Ohio. It was annoying that my bus was cancelled, but I think the universe was working in my favor. Theresa left Saturday night for the whole week because she’s doing a program in Erie. I basically got an extra day with friends, and one less day of being alone.

Last time Theresa left for a few days it was impromptu and I wasn’t ready to be alone in our apartment for the first time. I knew about this particular trip beforehand so I took it a lot better. Instead of being sad and nonproductive, I’ve just been nonproductive. I’ve been binge watching Orange is the New Black (I had never watched it before now) and it’s awesome. I’ve been cooking, trying new recipes, to keep myself busy. And I have spent some time with our friend Anna since she lives close by. Next week I start volunteering. I’m looking forward to having structure in my schedule again.

Yesterday, Anna and I got together and went for a walk down by the marina. Then we went to one of my favorite cafes and I finally finished writing the first chapter of my novel for my summer research project. After that we spontaneously decided to go to the Cheesecake Factory for dinner. It was my first time going and we ended up having a really great time.

So far, life post-finals has been going well!
