my favorite cartoon of all time

I was tagged by @achievementmicoo to answer 11 questions and then ask 11 of my own.

1. Coffee, tea, or neither?

Tea definitely.

2. Favorite character?

This is hard and I hate it but probably Margaery Tyrell from ASOIAF/GOT or Vex’alia from Critical Role

3. Thing you’re most proud of?

Getting over 200 likes on one of my Poison Ivy Cosplay photos!

4. What lyric describes you best?

“I am not a dirty god/ I don’t have a dirty body/ I am alone only half of the time/ the other half, i am only hiding.”

- Legit Tattoo Gun, The Front Bottoms

5.What is your favorite article of clothing?

This floral tank top i wear all the time. It’s what I would be drawn in as a cartoon probably

6. Do you have a dream hairstyle?

Really long and wavy, probably purple

7. Which movie trope would you want to be in?

Okay but I want to be the femme fatale trope in a fantasy film because think of the costumes and the fun lines.

Strawberry

9. Do you have any weird skills?

Not that I can think of. I’m really really good at remembering trivia facts I guess, as proven by getting fourth in state for academic bowl.

10. Would you ever want to be famous?

Yes. Like it’s not a goal but I think it might be cool.

11. Tell your best bad joke.

International Women’s Day: Adventure Time

One of my favorite qualities about this show

is the diverse range of strong female characters

all with completely different personalities,

all with depth, good and bad sides,

and two male protagonists who always treat them right.

Good job Adventure Time creators.

Parents Day finally aired on TV in time for Halloween!!! Pretty much my favorite episode, I loved working on this one sooo much. @stevieborbolla and @dannyducker went above and beyond to introduce Enid’s family! @brandonwuart designed the other half of the family, @kalidraws did all the character/prop color, and John Pham art directed this beautiful episode! Hope everyone enjoyed it!

What a glorious sight, all of my favorite CN shows meeting one another at the same time! This year will be their 25th anniversary too! Can you find your favorites in this?

Another Wednesday, another Hiveswap development team interview!

Hey there folks, we’re back to our new normal: it’s Ash here once again! I’ve returned from my brief outing to E3 last week and – don’t you worry – I’ve got a brand-new Hiveswap development team interview lined up for you today, just as scheduled!

But before we get to that, I’d like to toss a great, big “Thanks, man!” Cohen’s way for posting last week’s interview in my stead and, in fact, interviewing me so I didn’t have to very awkwardly interview myself. I may not be a super-cool artist or animator, but hopefully you all found what I had to say to be sufficiently interesting nonetheless!

But speaking of our illustrious creative types, today I’ve got an interview lined up with James Roach, Hiveswap’s sound designer and lead composer! These weekly interviews have been focusing mostly on the game’s visual elements and aspects up to now, but why should eyes get all the love? Not that eyes aren’t awesome and all, but I have it on good authority that ears everywhere are also looking forward to Hiveswap. Fortunately, James has very graciously prepared a smattering of Hiveswap sound samples for you to listen to as you read through the interview, so be sure to get equipped with some headphones before you begin!

Take it away, James!

Introduce yourself to the fans! What is your specific role on the Hiveswap team?

I’m James Roach, and I’m the Sound Designer for Hiveswap! I teamed up with [Undertale creator and composer] Toby Fox to compose the soundtrack for the game. I’m also responsible for most of the game’s sound effects and ambient sound alongside Marcy Nabors!

When and how did you get your start on the Hiveswap project?

When I saw the opportunity I reached out to What Pumpkin and sent along my portfolio. I was never part of the “Homestuck music team” in any official capacity, but I was pretty active in the community, so they knew of my work. I was as surprised as any of you when they offered me a job! They paired me up with Toby, who at that point was already a Homestuck music veteran. We’ve both been on the project ever since then.

Tell us a little bit about your career background! How did you get your start in music and sound design? Do you have any advice for others looking to enter this field?

I have been playing piano since I was about four years old. My family and culture have a strong musical tradition, and my mom thought playing music would keep me out of trouble. I got my start scoring web cartoons and doing freelance work. I only started doing sound design in the last few years out of necessity. A friend needed sound work done for their thesis film and had nobody else to do it, and I can’t leave a friend hanging! As far as advice goes, I recommend having your work accessible and easy to find. Make connections and be easy to work with. Being reliable, consistent, and professional will go a lot further than solely being good at something.

We’re making a video game, so of course the question must be asked: what’s your favorite game of all time, and what games are you playing currently?

The first game I remember having a big impact on me was The Legend of Zelda on the NES. My favorite game of all time is probably Bastion, but I don’t play a ton of video games anymore. I play a lot of Dungeons & Dragons. It’s all I ever talk about. My friends are so tired of me. Anyway, did you know a group of Myconids is called a “Circle?” Myconids are like cool mushroom guys that live underground. A lot of people think they might have a hive mind, but did you know they communicate using spores? Another cool thing about Myconids is–

Are there any games that you currently use or have used as inspiration for your own music and sound work here on Hiveswap, or just in general?

Obvious notes are stuff like Transistor, Luigi’s Mansion, Monkey Island, and so on and so forth. A lot of the inspiration for Hiveswap’s soundtrack comes less from games and more from my own musical and cultural background. There’s also a third-wave ska song. I have a really complicated relationship with ska.

As someone who writes music for video games, surely you must have a favorite video game composer or two (or three)! Who are they and what games have they scored?

You can’t talk about video game music without mentioning Nobuo Uematsu (the Final Fantasy series’ original composer) in some capacity, and his work has always been an inspiration to me. I think there’s an obvious Darren Korb (Supergiant Games) influence on my work as well. I’m really looking forward to hearing more of the Pyre soundtrack. I don’t know if I’m allowed to say that Toby has greatly influenced my work, since I worked with him specifically on this, but he absolutely has. The way he writes counter-melodies is phenomenal.

What’s your workstation like? Do you listen to any particular kinds of music while you work? If so, tell us about it!

Because I’ve been doing a lot of Foley work, I have this bizarre assortment of things lying around everywhere in my apartment for the weird, specific sounds they make. I’ve had this bundle of straws (which I flick rapidly to make monster footstep sounds) on my desk for weeks. There’s a broken umbrella (perfect for a monster’s wing flapping) hanging on the door, and a big pot with a fork and a broken slinky in it (scraped and slapped together to make creepy, echoey laser sounds) just lying around too. It’s a disaster to live in.

Favorite Homestuck character?

Aradia Megido.

Favorite Homestuck ship?

I used to be all about Intermission shipping, but it’s a little complicated to get into.

Favorite Homestuck flash?

I think like most people who started reading as a carryover from Problem Sleuth, “WV: Ascend” was the big “Whoa!” moment for me, so it’s always had a special place in my heart.

Do you have a personal message you’d like to relay to all the Homestuck and Hiveswap fans out there?

Hey.

Where can people find more of your work? Link us to your own little corner(s) of the Internet!

Whenever you close your eyes and open your heart… I will be there. No, I’m kidding – please follow me. You can find me on Twitter and SoundCloud!

“Can’t hoooold on much longer… But I will neeee-ver let go!…” –oh, wait, I’m back on? Sorry about that, James’ last answer there brought out my inner Crush 40 fanboy. (Sonic Adventure had a killer soundtrack though, didn’t it?) Thank you again for letting us pick your brain for a while, James – and for those lovely sound samples, of course!

Ok . . I’m going to be honest here, I really didn’t like how the last inktober pic lookt so I’m doing it over. This one will be the first for inktober, so ya I’m not starting out too good … but despite of my odds I’m still pushing forward … sorry to disappoint you all X( So this idea was in my head for a long time and here it is my two favorite cartoon series in one!!! “Villainous” and “Mystery Skulls” I love doing mixes!!! X3 Inktober 1#

You Have to Care is possibly my very favorite OK KO episode! @stevieborbolla & @dannyducker nailed the emotions of middle school way too well. I did all the young Enids while @brandonwuart designed all of the Elodies, including her original model before we started full time on the show! I included a middle school Elodie doodle of my own since I also really love drawing her. Colors by @kalidraws & art direction by John Pham!

I haven’t been drawing as much as I want recently, so to get back into it here’s a mashup of all my favorite shows I’ve been watching lately. Huge shout out to friends and everyone working on these- you guys are kicking so much butt and inspire me every time!!! Keep it up!

It’s about time I got around to drawing this. I’ve been meaning to draw this picture for years now. Gravity Falls is my favorite cartoon of the modern age. The writing, the jokes, the visuals, the stories, the setting, it’s all something extremely special and top quality. I originally planned to throw Gideon in the back and possibly other main supporters like Soos, but ultimately decided to do strictly monsters aside from the main three protagonists. I not only love the monsters in this show and mostly wanted to represent them, but also I feel there’s a much greater shortage of fanart of the monsters. Everybody just draws the human characters.I just love how the show generally has that cute art style, but then something that looks like a Contra boss or a Freddy Krueger manifestation can pop out. It’s a shame I’ll never know the experience of watching this show through a child’s eyes, because I believe it would likely be rather terrifying at times for a kid. There’s a few monsters i didn’t have room for. Can you identify them all?

Had to draw my favorite character, Grunkle Stan, though. Practically every line that dude says has me laughing out loud. Great freaking character all around.

I never did it intentionally, but every year when i happened to get back into watching Gravity Falls again, it was always around September and October. That, mixed with its obvious horror connections, have always made this cartoon part of the Halloween season in the past 4 or so years, despite it taking place in summer.

I was explaining the Batfam to someone, breaking down the characters, laying out the main timeline, blah blah blah, and I mentioned how “Dick Grayson was eight when Bruce took him in after his parents were killed,” and this guy scoffs and goes: “You don’t know what you’re taking about. Dick was twelve. Girl’s need to stop acting like they know comics.”

I grabbed my phone and shoved this in his face from the Wikia page:

“Dick Grayson was an eight-year-old circus acrobat, the youngest of a family act called The Flying Graysons of The Haly Circus . Dick joined the act at a very young age, having been trained in acrobatics from birth. Before one appearance in Gotham City, in which The Flying Graysons were the main attraction, they were asked to pose for a photo opportunity with Jack Drake and his family, including their young son, Tim Drake. From that time on Tim’s one and only hero in the world was Dick.

While on tour in Gotham City, he overheard "Boss” Tony Zucco, a well-known and feared crime lord, threaten the performers unless the circus’s owner paid protection money. The owner refused, and that night Dick watched in horror as his parents’ high wire snapped, sending his parents hurtling to their deaths, all while many of Gotham’s elite watched on. Young Dick felt responsible, because he failed to warn his parents in time.“

The guy got really mad and was like: "but in the cartoon-!”

“He was also eight when Bruce took him in. Fight me, you ass.”

He turned really red and I was like: “Yeah, which one of us needs to stop acting like they know comics?”

And he walked away.

Don’t you dare try to tell me I don’t know something about my ALL TIME FAVORITE CHARACTER simply because I’m a freaking girl.

French movies and shows on netflix

An anon asked me for some french things to watch on netflix, so I hope this list is helpful. A * next to the name means that it’s originally in french instead of being dubbed.

1. A lot of Netflix Originals seem to be dubbed in a lot of languages, so check some of those out!

2. Marguerite*- Movie. A rich 1920s singer with a horrible voice performs for audiences. People seem to actually like her. I haven’t watched this one, but it’s on my to be watched list

3. Diary of a Chambermaid*- Movie. A fairly well to do woman works as a maid for a couple in rural France. The mistress has crazy demands and the master kind of wants to have sex with her.

4.He Even Has Your Eyes*- Movie. A well to do black couple adopts a white baby. Some people are outraged. This movie is my all time favorite! It’s super funny and just amazing. The end made me cry

5. Gilmore Girls: A Year In the Life- TV show but each episode is 90ish minutes. A follow up to the original Gilmore Girls that is actually dubbed in french! Super good!

6. Miraculous Ladybug*- TV show. A cartoon about two teenage superheroes in Paris. It’s super cute and, even though it’s a cartoon, very entertaining. Plus the French is pretty easy, so you can follow it

7.  The Good Place- TV show. A woman wakes up dead and in “The Good Place”, which is where good people go when they die. The only problem is that she’s not that good.

8. Fuller House- TV show. The next generation of Full House

9. Jessica Darling’s It List- Movie. This is a kids movie, but I actually really really liked it for some reason. It’s about a girl who is just starting 7th grade and trying to be popular, even though she actually just wants to be herself.

10. Be Somebody- Movie. A singer and a wanna be artist team up in the artist’s small town after the singer decides he want a break from fame. Really sweet and cute

fishymomdraws-deactivated201707  asked:

Hey, can you show us top 5 "easter eggs" in Villainous in your opinion?)

Ooh, this is a really interesting ask! Villainous actually has a lot of cool background details that you could easily miss. Alright, first off:

5) This poster hanging in Flug’s Lab is super cute, and I’d like to think he made it himself for motivation.

4) I know this is a pretty well-known one, but I really like this picture. I just wanna know the story around it. And Flug in a suit is super adorable.

3) This one can’t really be conveyed in screenshot form, but Dementia references the movie “It” when she says “We all float.” The villain of the movie, Pennywise the Clown, says that line. I’m a sucker for Stephen King, so this is one of my favorite easter eggs.

2) This one is actually at least five references, all to other cartoons. The sword on the left is nearly identical to Finn’s golden sword from Adventure Time, a plush octopus that Bubbles from the Powerpuff Girls holds is behind Black Hat’s foot, Steven Universe’s shirt is on the right, behind that is Grim’s scythe from The Grim Adventures of Billy and Mandy, and behind that is the treehouse headquarters from Codename: Kids Next Door. There may possibly be more references, but that’s all I could catch.

1) The statue short has a lot of references, mostly to classic sculptures, but this one is actually a reference to “The Revenant”, the movie that won Leonardo DiCaprio his first Oscar. In the film, his character, a colonial pioneer, is mauled by a bear. This movie was made by one of my favorite directors, and seeing a reference to it in something made for kids kinda blew my mind.

Well, that’s my top 5! Thanks for the interesting ask. :D (Full images from each screenshot are under the cut)
