my favorite american of all time

8 Must-Watch Movies & Shows on Netflix

By: Grecia

Feeling bored on a warm summer night? Snuggle up in a blanket, grab a cup of coffee and make Netflix your date for the night.

  1. Stuck in Love - This movie has possibly some of the best actors all combined into one. Starring Logan Lerman and Lily Collins along with Nat Wolff and Liana Liberato, this isn’t your typical love story. There is romance but with that comes hard moments that they have to overcome in their lives.
  2. Supernatural - If you have never seen Supernatural, you have to as soon as possible. Literally close this tab and go watch it right now! This is my all time favorite show. With 9 seasons so far and renewed for a 10th season, there’s a reason why it has so many viewers. Who doesn’t love the protagonists Sam & Dean that save the world fighting monsters? Beware this show is rollercoaster of emotions.
  3. American Horror Story - Okay, this show is a little bit on the creepy side so if you are not a fan of scary things or get scared way too easy while watching scary movies, this show is not for you. On the other hand those who are scary-movie fanatics, have to watch this show. It has me literally glued to the TV while watching. It is super intense and what I love is that each season has a different theme but the same cast stars in it. Oh and what more can I say, one of the main reasons I watch it is because the unbelievably gorgeous Evan Peters.
  4. Gossip Girl - Based in NYC’s upper east side, this show is everything. It revolves around the lives of teenagers who have it all, and two siblings who don’t and strive to become part of their clique. I can literally re watch old episodes and never get tired of watching it. There is a lot of drama that comes with this show, it can make you laugh and cry and wish you had their life. Also basically everyone dates each other throughout a point in the show.
  5. Clueless - This movie is like the 90’s version of Mean Girls. If you feel like watching a chick flick, this is it. Cher will become your fashion icon after watching this film and you’ll fall in love with Paul Rudd. Cher, the protagonist, along with her best friend Dionne make it their life mission to transform a new girl, Tai and make her as popular as they are. At the end of this movie, you will catch yourself saying AS IF !
  6. Bates Motel - A prequel to the 1960’s film Psycho, this show is about Norman Bates a teenager, and his mother Norma Bates starting a new life after the mysterious death of Norma’s husband. They move to White Pine Bay, Oregon after Norma buys a motel there. Norma is very protective of Norman and they have this abnormal relationship. Norma knows about a mental illness Norman has  where he has blackouts and he kills people but doesn’t remember and she decides to keep it a secret from him and everyone else. Moving to White Pine Bay doesn’t do much help because the past comes back to haunt.
  7. New Girl - Oh wow basically this show is a series of funny gifs you see on your tumblr dashboard. You will fall in love with the whole cast. It is based in L.A when Jess a teacher, moves into a loft with three other guys. The show shows their complicated lives and troubles and the crazy stuff they get into. You will become very familiar with the DOUCHEBAG JAR.
  8. The Walking Dead - This show is action packed and will keep you on your toes. In a apocalyptic world, where zombies have invaded, live a small group of people who are fighting for their lives. Their leader Rick Grimes makes tough decisions, to keep everyone safe. Throughout each season they grow stronger, closer to each other, and they go through many horrible things, and troubles but they combat everything in order to survive.

Beautiful cast of American Gods (IMDB)

The series will focus on the mysterious Shadow, a man who is released from prison a few days early after serving a three-year sentence for bank robbery when his beloved wife Laura is killed in a car accident. Flying home for the funeral, Shadow is seated next to a man who introduces himself only as Mr. Wednesday, and this man knows more about Shadow’s life, both past and present, than is possible. Shadow comes to learn that Wednesday is, in fact, the god Odin of Norse mythology and that all of the gods that mankind has ever believed in are alive in human form and live among regular people. Shadow is soon thrust into a gathering conflict between the Old gods and the so-called “New gods”, the gods of money and technology who believe there is no longer room on Earth for the old gods.

Pop punk problem #47

When you want to see your favorite band live but they broke up 10 years ago.

My favorite part of Stargate SG-1 was, when Daniel Jackson died for like the umpteenth time - seriously, it became an in-fandom joke, Daniel’s death - and Jack’s like, “I’M NOT FALLING FOR THAT OLD SHTICK AGAIN!” and Carter is all, “Sir, he’s dead, there’s no way–” and Jack’s like, “NOPE, NOT LISTENING TO YOU, LALALALA! DANIEL, ARE YOU HERE? DANIEL?!?!?!” And suddenly, there’s this slightly embarrassed, “Jack?” from the adjoining office and lo and behold, Daniel Jackson in all his stark naked glory, saved and beamed down by yet more friendly aliens, and Jack offers him the American flag to cover his unmentionables! You haven’t lived if you haven’t seen that scene!

ooooooof, idk if i can do this justice…… but i’mma give it a try

straight up lookin like prince adam from beauty and the beast when he changed back to being a human…. like look at how beautiful he looks!!!!!! and then doing shit like this

completely unnecessary and feels like such a oxymoron???? because he looks soft and delicate in white and hair blowing in the wind like the pretty angel he is but then doing shit like that like who even was horsens harry

but PERSONALLLYYYYYYYYY

i prefer phoenix harry

lightly tousling his hair and rubbing his cheek like how do i become the ring on his hand that gets to touch his hair and face like that?

legit looking like a teenage american dreamboat in his blue jeans, white shirt, and i believe (correct me if i’m wrong) phoenix harry was the first time in a long time we were able to see him without his headscarf letting the curls fly freeeeeeeeeeee WHILE still being his lil ol’ goober self

beginner’s guide to horror movies

Okay, so you’ve seen a few scary movies and enjoyed them, and now you’re looking to expand your horror prowess. Maybe you’ve been reading/listening to a lot of creepypasta, and you feel like you’re ready to take the plunge. Or maybe you just have a feeling that you’d like horror, but have no idea where to start.

I’ve been a huge fan of all things creepy and scary for years. I was just reading an article called, “Horror Gems You Haven’t Seen Yet” and realized that I actually had seen almost every film on the list, so I guess that makes me an expert. So, my new baby horror fans, allow me to introduce you to the genre.

I got bored and decided to highlight ten of my favorite weird/eccentric singers in modern music. Maybe they aren’t the greatest singers of all time, but they’re all unique and unmistakable. Each of them have singing voices that make you go “WTF is this?!” upon first listen, but then you slowly grow to appreciate them as you listen to more material.

  1. Yma Sumac - The godmother of all eccentric voices. This Peruvian soprano both confused and bewildered 1950s audiences with her five octave vocal range, animal imitations, and “exotica” style of music, which mainly consisted of mambos and Latin American folk tunes. Most of the other people on this liste have traces of her influence in their vocal deliveries. Check out: Tumpa and Chuncho.
  2. Screamin’ Jay Hawkins - Once an aspiring opera singer, this R&B star single-handedly created the “shock rock” genre that performers like Alice Cooper and Marilyn Manson later adopted. Emerging from coffins, evoking voodoo rituals, and scream-bellowing his way through songs about everything from soul possession to constipation? Yep, he did it. Oh yeah, and he’s rumored to have fathered over 75 children. Check out: I Put a Spell on You and Constipation Blues.
  3. Tiny Tim - While often regarded as a novelty act, this falsetto nostalgist was actually quiet sincere with his performances. His ukulele renditions of squeaky clean 1930s pop tunes led to stardom in the 1960s, although his fame quickly faded. He would later find posthumous recognition through the use of his music in cartoons like Spongebob Squarepants. Check out: Living in the Sunlight and this bizarre cover of Earth Angel.
  4. Kate Bush - The queen of baroque prog-pop (if that’s even a genre) known for singing self-penned (and self-performed and produced) tunes with a breathy, child-like timbre that’s hard to describe. Her live performances and music videos were equally as hard to describe, but nonetheless captivating. While she was a mega-star in the UK and much of Europe, her peculiar style never caught on in the US. Check out: Wuthering Heights and Sat in your Lap.
  5. Klaus Nomi - Occasionally there are singers whose voices are so strange that words fail to describe them, and this German avant-garde performer is one of them. Part soprano, part alien, and part walking pop art, his style was unmistakable, if also a bit too weird for even other weirdos to process. Still, there is a beauty about his style that shines through, especially in live performances. Check out: The Cold Song and The Nomi Song.
  6. Diamanda Galas - Her nickname in the ‘80s was “The wife of the devil”, and it’s not hard to understand why. She too started her career as an opera singer and took a turn into weird and frightening territory beginning with 1982′s nightmarish LP The Litanies of Satan. With a shrieking 5 ½ octave vocal range and infamous live performances that could scare the bejesus out of anybody, there has never been anybody quite like her before or since. Check out: Double Barrel Prayer and her cover of I Put a Spell on You.
  7. Bjork - This Icelandic maverick started her career as part of numerous alt rock bands before embarking on a highly successful solo career. While her self-produced, eclectic music was always a bit off-kilter, she has only continued to get stranger over the years, but her clear, arresting howl has stayed the same. Her influence is insurmountable, ranging from Thom Yorke to FKA Twigs and beyond. Check out: Human Behavior and Crystalline.
  8. Mike Patton - Best known for his work with Faith No More, he could only best be described as a vocal freak of nature. Possessing a monstrous six octave vocal range (the widest of any singer in modern music), he has mastered death metal, Italian pop tunes, experimental jazz, Native American chants and literally everything in-between. His style has no limits, nor do his songs from various projects, which often jump through multiple genres in the span of three minutes. Check out: Smaller and Smaller (with Faith No More) and My Ass is on Fire (with Mr. Bungle).
  9. Tanya Tagaq - Another performer of “exotic” music by Western standards, this Inuk throat singer takes music traditional to her culture and puts a plethora of innovative spins on it. Alternating between hums, buzzes, coos, and clean vocals, she is primarily a storyteller, using her voice as an instrument to paint striking mental images. Recently she won the 2014 Polaris Prize for music and caused controversy by paying homage to thousands of murdered indigenous women as part of her performance at the ceremony. Check out: Improv Performance and Uja.
  10. Julie Christmas - What would Cinderella become if Prince Charming jilted her? One listen to this Julliard-trained maniac’s voice, and you’ll get the hint. Known for her work with Made out of Babies and Battle of Mice, Christmas can go from sweet to psychotic at the snap of a finger, her vocal delivery terrifying yet intriguing to even the most hardened of metal critics. Her recent solo work is further proof of her vocal acrobatics - a fallen Disney princess, indeed. Check Out: Cooker (with Made out of Babies) and Bones in the Water (with Battle of Mice).

I’ll do my top 10 (in no particular order)

I remember watching this on TV in 2012 and being so excited for them! It’s definitely one of my favorite gymnastics memories.

So much emotion!!!

I’m one of those people who says “i’m crying” but doesn’t actually cry most of the time, but this moment legitimately made me cry! She got her redemption.

This also made me cry because Cata winning in front of the home crowd after the shitshow that was 2016 was amazing.

Queen Simone finally getting that Olympic AA gold! I don’t remember seeing her crying a lot throughout her career so this was a really special moment.

Ellie Downie ugly tears are the best ugly tears.

The beginning of the American Olympic All Around dominance!

Happy bouncy Lari is the best Lari.

Same with Daiane.

And how could I leave this out?

Bed Buddies

AU’s: -You’re staying over, take my bed, I’ll sleep on the couch, yes i am yes i am yes i am yes i am no you’re not yes i am FINE WE’LL BOTH TAKE THE BED, happy!!??

-We’ve had this tradition as besties to have a sleepover once a year but this year….it feels different…were your pajamas always this cute??…did I always have butterflies

Laf was looking forward to this night for the past two weeks. Tonight was the night his best friend since cringey high school days came to visit, drink a couple beers, and ultimately catch up.

You and Laf were sophomores at the same college, but living on the other side of campus was like living worlds away. Whenever you did see each other, it was only when the whole squad would assemble for a night “studying” at the library. In reality, Alex would be the only one attempting to study, and John, Herc, and Laf would be laughing at some joke or sneaking in a box of beer for them to chug. You would always watch the beer-chugging, but only joined in when one of the boys smuggled in shots. Mostly you would watch the festivities with your notes spread out across your lap. Whenever Laf turned to look at you, you were watching him. He would smile and wave and you would blush scarlet and turn back to ask Alex a question about your notes. Laf didn’t think much of it.

The squad aren’t allowed in that library anymore for ‘improper behavior’.

But in any case, these wild one-on-one nights became a monthly tradition. Laf and Y/N never seemed to get some alone time to talk or just chill. They were best friends, after all.

Laf was so excited for this reunion. He hadn’t seen you in a grand total of two weeks, and hadn’t had alone time with you since last month. This was the first hang out being held at Laf’s dorm. He wanted to cook some stereotypical French food, partly because he enjoyed showing off his Frenchness and partly because he wanted to impress you with his stellar cooking.

He threw some freshly-made crepes onto a plate and garnished it with a couple of leaves in an attempt to make it look fancy. Laf gently hummed a French tune while he poured some crepe batter onto a hot pan. He got some more plates from the cabinet above the sink and laid them out on the dining table, all with a smile gracing his face. He continued to set up the table and prepare the food with the utmost care. Then there was a knock on the door. He wiped his hands on his apron and went to answer the door.

He opened the door and you stood in the doorway with a backpack on your shoulders and a bag in your hands, an amused look on your face. “Wow, Laf, you clean up nicely,” you chimed in, looking him up and down.

Laf had a white tank top showing off his massive arms, and you desperately tried not to let your eyes linger on his build for too long. On top of that he had a cliche ‘Kiss The Cook’ apron. ‘What a dork.’

“Y/N!” Laf chuckled nervously and gave you a hug. He let go a little too quickly out of embarrassment and went to check on his crepes. “You’re early…I wasn’t expecting you until nine.”

You dumped your backpack on his couch like you owned the place and pushed the plastic bag into his hands with a smirk. He looked at it questioningly while you looked around.

“Nice place,” you added, pulling out a chair at the dining table and unlacing you boots. “What’s for dinner, Frenchie?” Lafayette snorted and took some of the beer bottles out of the bag you had given him.

“When did you get so cocky?” Laf reached for the plate of crepes in the kitchen and pushed it in front of you, knowing that they will shut you up. Your eyes widened at the French food, and looked up at Lafayette in awe.

“Did you make these? These look amazing!” You immediately began to shovel them in your mouth when the frenchman placed a fork in front of you. “And they taste amazing, too,” you mumbled, your hand covering your mouth in an attempt to block your lips while you praised his cooking with a full mouth.

“It’s a family recipe,” he grinned, satisfied with your response.

While you inhaled the crepes, Laf slid you a beer, left one for himself, and went to place the rest in the fridge. He turned around and you were finishing up the last of the crepes out of the entire stack that he had placed in front of you a minute ago.

“Don’t they feed you back in the girl’s dorm? Jesus, you eat fast.”

You shrugged and popped the lid off of the beer bottle. You took a swig and widened your eyes in realization. You put the bottle down on the table with a little clink.

“Oh shit, did I just eat your food? Did you eat already? I should’ve saved some for you… Jesus, I’m horrible,” you mused nervously, standing up from your chair and briskly padding into the kitchen with Lafayette trailing behind you.

“Hey it’s fine! I’m not hungry,” he said as he grasped your wrist abruptly and twirled you around.

Suddenly, his strong arms caught you off guard and you got twirled closer towards him so that your eyes were level with his lips and your faces were inches apart. You quickly glanced to his eyes and he looked flustered, which was unnatural for his normal  confident mien.

He took a step back and ran his hand through his hair, clearly uncomfortable. You felt a blush creep onto your cheeks and you looked to your feet. ‘What the hell was that?’

“So, uh, do you wanna watch a movie or something?” Lafayette spoke without looking at you, as he took steps back out of the kitchen.

“Sure,” you murmured, eager to escape this tense feeling. You hated being like this around Laf, he was your best friend. You flopped on the couch and wrapped yourself with a blanket and hugged a pillow into your stomach.

“Quit hogging the blanket, Y/N!” Laf joked. You snuggled further into the couch and stuck your tongue out at him. He poked you in the side and you giggled, giving up a portion of the blanket.

Laf grabbed the remote off of the coffee table in front of you and opened Netflix. After debating what to watch for a solid five minutes, you two decided on Mrs. Doubtfire.  Robin Williams was your favorite actor and comedian since you were a kid and when Laf said he never watched the movie, you gave him a look of disbelief and snatched the remote out of his hands.

“Really? You haven’t seen the greatest Robin Williams movie of all time?”

Laf shrugged. “My parents are cut-throat French aristocrats . We didn’t watch American movies at home unless they were educational. We played French songs, movies, plays, you name it. My parents took pride in their nationality, as do I. Maybe I should show you one of my favorite French movies?” He gave up once he saw the hesitant look on your face.

“Fine, I’ll give Mrs. Doubtfire a try. But you’ll have to make some popcorn for us.” He shot you his sweetest smile and sighed, getting up.

“Hey King Louis, where do you keep your popcorn?” You called over your shoulder when you reached the kitchen.

“Ha-ha,” he replied sarcastically over his shoulder while setting up his couch nest. “Third cabinet to the right of the fridge.”

You made the popcorn as fast you could and fell onto the couch and very close to his legs with the bowl of the popcorn. You quickly sat up blushing. You didn’t mean to fall so close to him. He didn’t seem to notice you being flustered.

“I got the popcorn,” you said, stating the obvious. Laf smiled slightly and pressed play. The movie started and the Frenchman wrapped an arm around you and pulled you closer to him. Have the French always been this intimate, even with their friends? You tried not to think much about it and snuggled into him, ready to watch a movie with your best friend.

The movie was over, beers were empty, and you and Laf stretched out across the couch. You would say the movie was great, like always, but you were… distracted. Laf’s arm was around you and his face was so close to yours. You didn’t usually feel like this when you were around him. Does he do this around all of his friends? Has he always been this hot?

“Its getting late, I should probably leave. We should do this again sometime, though.” You said, getting up from the couch. Laf groaned and pulled you back down.

“Can’t you stay a little more… s'il vous plaît?” he pleaded.

You sighed. “Laf, it’s 1:05 and I haven’t started any of my homework for Monday.”

“It’s fucking Friday, Y/N, you have the whole weekend.”

“Well, now it’s technically Saturday–”

“You know what I mean, idiot,” your friend replied rolling his eyes. “Besides, I don’t want you going home alone at night like this, mon amour. Our campus isn’t exactly, how you say, the safest. Je ne pense pas que c'est une bonne idée. Je ne veux pas vous faire de mal.”(I don’t think it’s a good idea. I don’t want you to get hurt.)

You didn’t really understand the last half of that sentence, but you got the gist.

“Laf, that’s really sweet, but I can’t-”

“Sure you can,” he said, smiling sweetly and putting his arm around you again. You blushed a little but rolled your eyes.

“Here, I’ll sleep on the couch, you can take my bed, belle.”

You knew what that one meant. Was he flirting with you?

“No, no, no, I can’t just stay the night and take your bed away from you.” You curled a strand of your hair nervously. He pushed your hair behind your ear and took your hand. ‘Calm your fucking tits, Y/N. Just a friend, just a friend-”

Laf looked at you with pleading eyes.

“Don’t be silly, I’ll take the couch. Let me be the gentleman here.” He laughed. But you didn’t want to inconvenience him anymore than you already had.

“I’d rather go home than have you sleep on the couch. I don’t want to have you be uncomfortable all night because of me.” You said, slightly raising your voice at him.

“Fine, wanna just- merde, we could both just-, since you’re so stubborn, we could both sleep in my bed– If you’re comfortable with it of course…” He sputtered, trying to make up his mind, and trailing off. Your eyes widened and you looked down.

“I guess,” you mumbled, trying to not seem flustered or desperate.

Laf gave you a small grin while glancing down at your intertwined fingers. “So, if we’re done arguing, I’m ready to go to bed.” he gently remarked with a smile.

After the both of you prepared for bed in the bathroom, you lifted up the striped covers and got in, immediately immersed with his scent. Laf could only stare at you.

“Are you gonna sleep in that?” You were wearing a tshirt and jeans. It was the only thing you had, so you assumed it was what you were going to be wearing for bed.

“Well, yeah…”

Laf paused for a second before speaking, “I could lend you a shirt of mine to wear, if you wanted…” He looked up at you to see your reaction. “Unless you don’t want to, of course,” he added quickly.

You smiled slightly, “Thanks, Laf, that would be nice…” you trailed off.

He nodded and turned to his dresser and pulled out sweatpants and a black tshirt while you stood up out of his bed. He handed the things to you and momentarily left the room so you could get changed in peace.

What the fuck was happening tonight? Not only did you feel ten times more flustered, but he seemed to be ten times more affectionate. Was it the beers you had? You weren’t even close to drunk, and Laf didn’t get drunk easily…

You pulled on his shirt and slid into his sweatpants with ease, considering they were massive on you, yet attainable. Your hair on the other hand was anything but attainable.

“Laf, you can come in now if you want!” You called through the door, while you yanked your hair tie out of your hair.

Laf walks in hesitantly, and upon seeing you, he grins to himself. However, you catch his smile while gazing into the mirror while you put your hair up in a messy ponytail.

“What was that smile for?” you say, turning on your heel to look at him with an amused look on your face.

“Rien, ma chérie,”he said.

You cock your head and raise an eyebrow, your hands finding a place on your hips.

“I-I mean, those clothes are huge on you, it’s quite funny to see you drowning in mes vêtements,” He now replies, fluffing his pillows while getting into bed, avoiding your gaze with a smirk on his face.

You quickly turn off the light of his room and follow him into bed, letting your hands guide you on the way to the bed, considering you are temporarily blinded.

“Are you good? You sure you don’t want me to sleep on the couch?” Laf inquires.

“If you don’t want to share a bed with me, Laf, just say something,” you say as sarcastically as you can muster.

“Ah no! I mean… Merde Y/N, you make this so difficult.”

You both giggled into the pillows and adjusted more, becoming comfortable in the bed. You could get used to this bed…

“Good night ma cher,” he mutters before turning from lying on his back to his side.

“Sweet dreams, Laffy Taffy.”

You slowly woke up, from one of those calming dreams that only occur in the mornings. As you drifted into consciousness, you lifted your hands to wipe at your eyes, but then you realized where you were. More specifically, who you were with.

Your eyes widened when you found yourself with an arm wrapped around your waist.

At first it was shocking and uncomfortable. But you soon felt more at ease, knowing whose arms those were. Your back was to him, while he spooned your small form. You gently smiled to yourself, not turning to him, not wanting to disturb him.

Little did you know, Laf was awake, and very, very happy.

Some old doodles of my rendition/designs for the characters from the book Journey to the West! Ofc, it’s a more modern twist and this does take place in the same universe/time as Bran’s does (AKA, there is a magical ass monkey king somewhere in Bran’s universe… amazing).

Anybody who knows me or has followed me for the last few years knows I’m a huge fan of this series! v/w/v I’ve only just started to learn from the actual source material some years ago, but I’ve known of this story for a long while without really knowing it (Lost Odyssey anyone?? That terrible American adaption to it… ooh boy. I was like in my early teens at the time if i remember right). But ahh! Sun Wukong has quickly become one of my favorite mythical characters vwv I also enjoy how ridiculously strong he is and all the other characters as well ;w;

I’m gonna upload some newer pencil sketches tho! I’m sorry this account’s been so dead! Sabers Chapter 5 is nearly finished and I decided to take a two day break from it vwv;;; so yeah, in time when all that’s done I hope to be more active!

All my opinions on Hamilton in Chicago

This was my second time seeing Hamilton, the first time in Chicago. While the fact that it was the second time around with a different cast and theater certainly made it feel different than last time, one thing that was weighing heavily on me throughout the show was that… the country feels like it’s heading in a different direction than what I saw it last. My all-time favorite lines in the show are these that Hamilton sings:

I wrote some notes at the beginning of a song someone will sing for me
America, you great unfinished symphony, you sent for me
You let me make a difference
A place where even orphan immigrants
Can leave their fingerprints and rise up

The first time I heard this I thought about the American Dream and how far we’d come in building upon the work these people had started. This time I thought about the weight of responsibility that is on all of us now to do so much better. I still found hope in the show but in different places than I had before.

With that, I’ll talk about the performances under the cut.
