Christopher Eccleston plays Doctor Who to help a young couple get engaged
Christopher Eccleston has played Doctor Who again – as he helped a young couple to get engaged.
Breaking his habit of never speaking about the sci-fi series which he
quit acrimoniously in 2005, the actor was spotted helping a young
couple in a New York cafe to get engaged.
Eccleston, who last week appeared in Sky’s new drama Fortitude, is
filmed telling the surprised girl: “Hello Mary fantastic to meet you,”
before adding, “I’ve brought the Tardis with me - the Tardis is just at
the bottom there.”
As the girl’s astonishment grows, he tells her: “I’ve also got an
assistant who I’m just going to go and get.” He then returns with her
boyfriend who produces a ring and pops the question, prompting her to
burst into tears as she agrees.
A friend is heard declaring to the groom-to-be: “You were brave to do that in front of Mr Eccleston.”
Afterwards the pleased-looking actor tells the group that he was in the cafe with his wife, who is sitting nearby.
