He had been sitting in the hospital waiting room for 1 hour. He had tried to go with her as the doctors rushed her off into the long winding halls of the hospital, but wasn’t allowed to. Maks had called Meryl’s parents and they soon came to the hospital. The nurses told them that Meryl was awake and was getting tests done. They got to see her, because they were family. But Maks knew that he was family to Meryl too. He sat in the room shaking. It was all his fault.
It’s all my fault. It’s all my fault. It’s all my fault. It’s all my fault. It’s all my fault. It’s all-
“Hey Maks.” It was Paul, Meryl’s dad. “She’s asking for you”
He followed Paul to Meryl’s room.
“How is she?” Maks asked
“Fine now. It was worse for Meryl considering how tiny she is. Plus her stomach was empty. She feels chilled and that’s normal. So her room is blazing hot. And we can’t let her fall asleep, because if she does she might not ever wake up. But it’ll take a little while for recovery. Concussions can leave scarring on the brain that later may result in vicious recurring migraines or headaches. It can cause ringing of the ears or Tinnitus that usually stems from a region inside the brain. It can cause an equilibrium imbalance that can impair walking or make you feel dizzy if you bend down to pick up something off the floor. Also, once a person gets a concussion, they are more likely to get more. But on the bright side her CAT scan and MRI came back clean.”
“I should’ve never come. Paul I’m so sorry.”
“Don’t be Maks. You light up her world. Once she came back to Michigan, she couldn’t stop talking about how much she missed you.”
Maks smiled a little bit. He still felt bad, but this perked him up a little bit.
“I promise I’ll never go on the ice with your daughter again.” Maks said
“Yeah, please do not.” Paul said
They came to Meryl’s room. She still looked perfect, even in that hospital gown. But Paul was right, the room was blazing hot.
“Surprise.” Paul said
Meryl turned her head and saw Maks. She have a huge smile and Maks came over and gave her a hug.
