I just saw that James Avery just passed away and all I could think of was this scene from Fresh Prince. The ending moment between Will and Uncle Phil was unscripted and it shows how caring and loving James Avery was towards the people he interacted with. Judge Phillip Banks was the first positive black male role model I saw on TV (other than Dr. Heathcliff Huxtable…) and I want to post this in tribute. Mr. Avery, thank you for being a part of my childhood and you will be sorely missed.
Sergeant Moore (Angela’s father): “Fill me in on this Shawn Hunter will you, Mr. Feeny?”
Mr. Feeny: “Well I have seen Shawn overcome every obstacle life has thrown
at him and grow up to be one of the finest young men that I know. Shawn
is a deeply sensitive and caring individual. And I’ve never seen him as
happy as when he’s in the company of your daughter. And I always thought that Angela felt the same way.”
Do you remember in kindergarten, how you’d meet a kid, and know nothing about them, then 10 seconds later you’re playing like you’re best friends, because you didn’t have to be anything but yourself? Yeah. Singing with you felt like that.
