music is life love

out of all the excellent comedy shows on right now, the golden globes picked ………… the will & grace revival?

a quantitative analysis of the BeY OST

Since I’ve been listening to the OST nonstop since it was released, I thought it would be fun to put some numbers to the soundtrack. This is essentially all of my favorite things–ballroom, music, and data–in one place!

Edit: sorry about the blurry graphs, they were super clear when I made the post but I guess tumblr messed with the formatting? If anyone knows how to fix this, advice would be much appreciated.

As one would expect, a large portion (48%) of the soundtrack is music that can be used for ballroom dancing. The songs aren’t all perfect–some are a hair too fast, others quite slow–but they could be stretched to fit any practice situation.

Out of the 31 ballroom songs, 77% of them are Standard and 23% are Latin. This is also unsurprising, seeing as the manga/anime’s entire focus has been on Tatara’s progression in Standard.

Based on the number of songs for each dance type, one could make 3 distinct Standard rounds without repeating songs, but only 1 Latin round if using the same rules.

It is worth mentioning that the songs average about 2 minutes each, making them the perfect length for competition/practice rounds, which are 90 seconds long.

Katie the Lady

I was sitting at the bar in a restaurant that wasn’t busy at the time. The bartender asked me about the notes I was writing, rewriting, and organizing. I showed her some examples of my work while joking around and generally giving her a hard time (playfully). She was impressed by my poems and asked if I could write something for her. She told me her name (Katie). I thanked her for her comments and told her that since I will be in the area for a while, I’d give it a try. These events inspired me to pen these words about a relationship. I presented, and sang this to her, (the way I think it should sound) with my apologies for being so disruptive on our earlier encounter and thanked her for putting up with my shenanigans.

                                                                              Katie the Lady

I raise my drink in honor of a lady whom I know.

She tolerates my rantings and my ravings even though,

I seem so immature, just like a child who’s barely three.

Here’s to Katie, the lady, who puts up with me.

If I get in a crabby mood, and feel like I could spit;

I throw a tantrum or I have a real conniption fit,

She comforts me and brings me up when I’m an S. O. B.

Here’s to Katie, the lady, who puts up with me.

She treats me like a king now, even when I act a jerk;

I’m all wound up and cussing from a long, tough day at work,

She calms my nerves and I forget that BLEEPing factory.

Here’s to Katie, the lady, who puts up with me.

I sometimes can be difficult and get into her hair;

Cantankerous and grouchy like a hungry grizzly bear.

She let’s me vent and blow off steam while waiting patiently.

Here’s to Katie, the lady, who puts up with me.

Much like a discount diamond, I’m unpolished and I’m flawed.

Compared to her, I’m such a rube, an uncouth country clod.

I don’ t deserve her love and her undying loyalty.

Here’s to Katie, the lady, who puts up with me.

How to feel like a princess getting ready for a politically important ball

*Use a sugar scrub or make one with ¼ cup of sugar + ¼ cup of oil (like coconut or olive or avocado) + a splash of vanilla extract + a few drops of lavender EO—pat dry when you come out of the water so the oil will stay behind to nourish your skin

*Soak in a bath of honey, milk, and flower petals

*Brush out your lightly dried and detangled hair with a wooden comb that has been oiled with a hair oil (may I suggest camellia oil—it is a light oil that sinks in beautifully)

*If you have acne prone skin, wash your face after oiling your hair

*Remember, “presentation is manipulation”—this is a time for you to shine

*Listen to music that makes you feel powerful and confident—sing along to enhance the effect

*Wear a perfume that you love (vanilla is near universally pleasing if you care about how other people will respond to the scent)

*Dark lipstick is more intimidating—it will make people listen

*Natural lips suggest a friendly, easy-to-get-along-with personality

*If you wear heels, walk confidently

*If you wear flats, walk confidently

*Remember you own the space you exist in

*Wear colors that make you feel powerful—screw advice that would tell you that you can’t wear whatever color you want

*Don’t let others speak over you—your voice is worthy of being heard and don’t let anyone tell you otherwise
