Alright, to all those who have heard about Mamamoo, seen them around and thought “hmm, they look nice I guess I’ll check them out one day”, I want to take this post to say, they are worth your time.
You don’t have to like girl groups, you don’t even have to like kpop at all, just music with a funky vibe, fresh summer sound and powerhouse vocals. I mean obviously it helps that these girls are such vibrant, passionate personalities, but if you’re not the type to obsess over groups, know that Mamamoo has a unique sound. Mixing retro and upbeat with modern vocals, harmonies and a clean production. Really though, their harmonies have been known to give eargasms so be warned. Their singles include Piano Man, You’re the Best, Decalcomanie and their most recent, Yes I Am.
As for the girls themselves, they could make even the coldest of hearts smile. They’ve been around for three years now, and are getting really comfortable as artists. They shine most when on stage, so make sure to watch them perform live. Even when they aren’t singing their own song, they manage to bring out something new and original to the table. Adding their own flavor to the mix.
Solar is the leader and oldest member, so don’t let her adorably squishy cheeks say otherwise! (Her words, not mine!) She’s a true cinnamon roll here… One with a beautifully soothing and angelic voice. If you want to check her out, here is a link to one of her solos “In my Dreams” : https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=upCKk8u-5ZE
Moonbyul is second oldest in the group is designated rapper, and has a really poetic style. Really, she can tear you up. She actually used to train to become a singer, but after debuting was given very little singing lines and became quite shy about singing. Thankfully she’s starting to be given more to sing, and it’s great! Here is another link to Moonbyul’s solo song “Worthless” : https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=V9ctTKDpQAg
Wheein is too cute for words. She’s a beagle, always energetic, always keeping the girls together and making them smile. Her voice is really stable and perfect for harmonizing. Hwasa is the youngest member, but don’t let that fool you into thinking she’s the shyest! This girl is fierce! She’s full of charisma and passion and determination. She doesn’t fit the ideal standard of Korean beauty, but she looks amazing and she knows it. Her voice is rougher ad bluesier than most, and it works really well in the group. She can also rap. This turned out much longer than planned, but I can’t stress enough how talented this group is. Who knows, you might grow to love them.
