museum of useful things

I made it home from Alabama safely and the weather for tomorrow looks decent, so I’ll be up at the International Cryptozoology Museum tomorrow with @cryptid-wendigo!

I’ll post a picture tomorrow so you can recognize me. (I am not, in fact, a cute sea monster with a headset. This is a disappointment, I’m sure.) I love meeting new people, so don’t be shy!

Taylor Swift performs Wildest Dreams on electric guitar live at the GRAMMY Museum.

Stop letting those voices get to you, you are your own worst critic. We point out our own flaws as if we want to hurt ourselves, give yourself some love and give yourself time to heal, you are worth more than your ‘bad bits’. You are worth more than staring at yourself in disgust. You are a masterpiece, and not the type to frame in a museum, the type that shows us what freedom truly is.

Things I’m Still Learning by Amy Kennedy

Nightstalker

Hey, check it out!  Kurt’s hometown built a museum dedicated to all things Nightcrawler!  Considering how the townsfolk of Winzeldorf used to whip up riots in an attempt to murder him, things certainly have changed.

Amazing!  It must’ve taken a lot of time and effort to collect all of these replicas, artifacts, and photos.  Probably took the entire town to get this whole thing realized.

Wait, hold up.  She collected all of the Nightcrawler artifacts and funded the museum?  By herself?!  Um.  There’s a line between “dedicated fangirl” and “obsessive stalker,” and this girl might have crossed it.

She brought him there on “less than honest terms”?!  Look, I know it was for the benefit of the villagers and not for herself per se, but she’s proven herself willing and capable of doing so …  Kurt, please tell me your internal “Stranger Danger” alarms are going off in your head.  Just … be careful.

Stranger Danger STRANGER DANGER KURT OH MY GOD

SHE SENT YOU A LETTER SHE KNOWS WHERE YOU LIVE

DON’T PROMISE HER THAT!  WHAT IS THE MATTER WITH YOU?!  GET OUT OF THERE NOW!

YO.  WHAT.

WHAT.  What are you doing Kurt?!  I told you to get out of there, not to come back!  While injured, of all things!  Okay, I get wanting to thank her for the museum and for reminding you of why you’re a hero, but still.

KURT NO!  THIS IS ALL KINDS OF A TERRIBLE IDEA!  SOMEONE CALL THE KURT PROTECTION SQUAD™ NOW!  THEY NEED TO SAVE HIM FROM HIS STALKER.  AND ALSO FROM HIS OWN BAD DECISIONS.

From X-Men Manifest Destiny: Nightcrawler

So NatM 3 showed us the exhibits have access to internet and, well, Jed and Oct watching cat videos was cute and stuff but let’s face the facts, I’m at least 89% sure Larry has, somewhere along the way, walked in on several exhibits watching porn, and it has happened more than once.

Assuming it is indeed Larry who brings his computer to work, his search history would suddenly be full of obscure google searches like

“2 men in Roman bathhouse” (Octavius your gay is showing)

“slave girls in Cleopatra dresses” (umm, seriously, Ahk?)

“slave boys in Cleopatra dresses” (alright then, Ahk, whatever floats your boat)

“breathtaking Mongolian goddess” (wait, Attila speaks English??)

“sexy capuchin” (WHEN DID DEXTER LEARN TO WRITE GUYS I’M FREAKING OUT)

Funny thing is, the Doctor using museums to keep score could easily backfire. There’s a very good likelihood of him running into artifacts from his own future and locking himself into rather nasty paradoxes. Of course, he’s the Doctor, so he just blunders in to gloat in the museums without caring about the potential consequences. The dork would probably get excited over such consequences even if they did happen.

LIBRARY PSA

It has come to my attention (many times and often) that most people don’t realize what their library has to offer them.

So here is a small list of the things your library potentially has in its collection:

Books (duh)
eBooks
Audiobooks
eAudiobooks
Magazines
eMagazines
DVDs
eReaders (sometimes pre-loaded with books)
Video Games (yeah for real)

Other services:

Homework help (sometimes online as well)
Book clubs (or they can get you the books for your own book club)
Computers
Printers
Scanners
Photocopiers
Homebound delivery (and other services for people who are disabled)
Museum passes
3D printers
Programs
Databases

SO MANY WONDERFUL THINGS. USE YOUR LIBRARY PEOPLE. CHECK BOOKS OUT. PLAY VIDEO GAMES. DO YOUR HOMEWORK. READ MAGAZINES. DOWNLOAD AUDIOBOOKS.

And the most important resource:

YOUR LIBRARIANS. ASK THEM THINGS.

That is all.

Canvas Linesman Bucket

Linesmen have used these durable canvas buckets for years to haul tools to the lines they are servicing. The buckets have the added advantage of being made out of water weight canvas, so they work exceedingly well to transport water. With steel rings around top and bottom, and double stitched seams, these collapsable bags can withstand lots of wear and tear. Measures: 9 ½” high x 9 ¼” wide.  Handle 7" long.
