musee marmottan

Day 17

Its hard to find a space of peace and quiet in a city like Paris, but thats all I was craving today. I first looked at Musee Marmottan Monet which houses a wonderful collection of Monet’s work. The museum doesn’t allow pictures so I will have to hold onto the memories of the paintings within the confines of my mind. The entrance that I took into the basement dedicated to his work opened up to a circular room with his series of water lilies. The architect had designed the space specifically for these pieces which made it very harmonious.

After the museum I decided to check of Bois de Boulogne. The name had been mentioned several times in class, but I didn’t really grasp what it was until I went there. It is a massive park. Gigantic. I just visited one small section, but while I was there I was able to enjoy some peace and quiet. I took a ferry over to a small island which housed a restaurant and bar among the foliage. There were people enjoying rides in old fashioned rowboats and others just laying in the grass soaking up the sun. I decided to explore the many paths on the Island and discovered several neat spots. I also discovered that I am a big chicken and absolutely terrified of Geese. But hey its okay cuz they’re known for their aggressiveness right?!? Well after my terrifying encounter with the geese, I made my way back to the restaurant for a couple glasses of wine as I looked out over the water at the serene environment around me.
