The Hangover: Fae Edition

No matter Fomorian resistances and tolerances, there were still a handful of intoxicants that could ravage even a lord. It was a known fact and considered high praise when a vintage could knock the strongest off their feet or give the equivalent of a hangover.

At the present moment, however, Airn had nothing but curses for whomever had brewed whatever he’d drunk. Waking with his head tipped backward off a bed did not improve his mood or his headache. With a bit of concentrated effort, he rolled. His bare knee brushed through something wet on the mattress and he groaned, willing his stomach to remain still despite the possibilities. After a moment kneeling there, he felt steady enough to open his eyes, squinting against the light and cursing Dawn.

His mind refused to give him memories of the sequence of events that had landed him here and only supplied a few details from his surroundings. Bodies breathing—Renner, Calder, Calder’s first mate. Other bodies that might not have been breathing but for whom he had absolutely no familiarity.

Curious, he gripped the jaw of the creature nearest to him, turning her head to study her features. Nothing. Not a lick of recognition. At least she was only sleeping and not dead.

At last, he glanced down to what his leg rested in and was relieved to see it was only blood.
