mt langley

Day One:

Got into Mammoth at 2am and slept in my truck outside my friends house. Woke up at 5am, ate breakfast with Jeff, loaded the car, and grabbed Ben. Hit the road by 630 towards Lone Pine. Stopped at an outdoor shop to get flies and some snacks. The owner, Tackle Dan, must have been pushing 90. Super funny guy.

Drove out of town and hit the Cottonwood Lakes TH around 10 and got underway. The first 7 miles to camp only took us 2 hours. We dropped off our packs and began the ascent up Mt Langley. We were under the impression it was 3 miles and 2500’ from camp, but that was very wrong.

It was mostly easy grade on the climb up. The landscape is grand in the Eastern Sierra, but very desolate. We saw one marmot and that was about it. We didn’t think Ben was going to make it, but he did! Awesome views of Mt Whitney at the summit. We ended up getting back to camp in the dark, building a fire, and started drinking and eating until 11. It was a cold windy night.
