Annyeong! ^^ How has everyone been? Has your summer filled or anime filled? :D Haha, well it’s almost the end of summer, and of course, all of the good dramas have aired at this time. Horrible of them right? Haha, anyways, let’s start with Miss Panda and Mr. Hedgehog/Panda and the Hedgehog Review!
Pan Da Young, nicknamed Panda (Yoon Seung Ah from Playful Kiss), owns a little cafe named Panda Cafe. However, the cafe doesn’t get much business. She hires Go Seung Ji (Lee Dong Hae), nicknamed Hedgehog (also known for meaning “abrasive”), who has exceptional skills as a baker, bringing even more business than before. Together, they battle against Saint Honore (Eo-no-rae), the best but most expensive bakery in town. Coincidentally, Saint-Honore is owned by Panda’s childhood friend but is hated by Seung Ji. Who will win this battle of sweets? And even more so, who will win Panda’s heart?
(Oh, who are we kidding, we know who’s going to win lmao)
There’s only been 4 episodes, but I love it. It’s pretty slow at first because there’s a lot of background to know about , but it gets really interesting at episode 3, which I don’t think is bad. If you wait it out, it’ll be pretty good, I promise :)
Let’s talk about the casting. I really like the casting. Usually, I’m not into idols becoming actors, but from what I know, this is not Donghae’s first drama so he’s a bit more experienced. I love how his acting is just natural, he’s not trying too hard to be the character but rather that he is. And I fell in love with Yoon Seung Ah since Playful Kiss and have been waiting for her to get a main lead. She’s also very natural with her character, but I think it’s because it fits her personality. She seems like the very innocent, adorable, and bubbly type that doesn’t get annoying haha.
Now, what I love is that, in my eyes, it’s not a typical drama. On a basic level, yes. You know, the whole love square and the characterization of the characters and of course, how the love story is going to play out. You’ll watch it and you’ll see how it’s going to turn out. But I think how the story is set up generally is unique. Seung Ji plays the “bad boy” who gets the girl, but he’s no Goo Jun Pyo. He’s just rough and hardheaded because he wants to get what he wants and that’s the downfall of Saint Honore. Panda plays the oh, so typical “innocent” female lead, but she is a bit more touchy, haha. But she’s not strong and hardheaded like Jan Di or stupid and naive like Han Ni. She’s a combination of both: bubbly and fun and naive but knows when she needs to stand up for herself. I hope she doesn’t become someone like Han Ni though, like every drama. Or like Lee Gyu Won from Heartstrings. That gets really annoying.
Here’s where it gets typical. Her childhood friend, Won Il (and the guy is SO hot), plays the obsessive and jealous first love type. You guys know where that leads to. Stubborn and will do anything to get what he wants because he has the money and power. Although, he is a bit more innocent than how rich guys are usually played out… Panda also has a “best friend” (I don’t even know what her name is) who becomes the bitch. You know where that leads to, too haha. Jealousy to craziness. I can already see it.
I really want to see how the love story plays out even though it’s so cliche, but I love it when love stories start out at friendship. It’s not the childhood friendship though. They start out as strangers and they’re not looking for a relationship, just business and success. But I love their relationship. It’s not awkward and they can just naturally smile at each other. There’s also a lot of background to be covered (and I LOVE background stories). I don’t want to spoil that.
I really like where the story’s going as of now, and I want to see how all the characters are connected.
HOPES FOR A GREAT DRAMA, HWAITING ^^
Oh, I’m also going to be doing episode reviews. KA JA!! :D
