If you were a teenager in the ‘90s, you probably remember Fight Club quite fondly as the counter-cultural classic that caused a generation to rebel against the mainstream by … going to see Fight Club. But watching it now, it’s hard not to see its flaws – like the fact that the bulk of the movie is about the trials and tribulations of being an affluent white guy whose central conflict is “I am dissatisfied with my comfortable lifestyle and well-paying office job during the economic boom years of the late 1990s.” And unusually for an anti-consumerist satire, this movie is filled to its grimy brim with product placement, including everything from Krispy Kreme to Starbucks and Pepsi.
So you’re an asshole for buying IKEA, but it’s cool to attempt to subliminally force your audience into craving brown sugar water? That’s like if An Inconvenient Truth was peppered with references to how super-cool ExxonMobil is.
Highs and Lows of last night’s episode (March 6th, 2017)
RELEASE DAY WAS UPON US
Highs - - EVERY SINGLE ROBRON MOMENT. It’s just a testament to the strength and beauty of their
love. From the little things like, Robert setting a reminder on his phone. To all the hand holding. Every hug. Every cheek stroke. Every back stroke. - Robert back to being the loving, supportive, madly in love husband that he is. - Seeing their wedding rings on together. - Robert saying he was smiling because he was getting his fella back. - That EPIC hug outside the prison. - The fact that Aaron threw his bag to the side, to get into that hug. - Robert smiling at Ross when he was joking about the sex tape (They’ve come such a long way since that fateful new year day, back in 2016 :p). Also interesting, considering the blackmail that is going to happen next week. - That look of absolute hate on Robert’s face when
Blonde Skank entered the pub (NOW THAT’S WHAT I’M TALKING ABOUT!!!). - The fact that he said, “All of a sudden you’re at my husband’s
party?” - Robert taking Aaron to the mill (Despite what happened there, Aaron really needed to see it). - The fact that Aaron told Robert what happened to him in prison, and Robert’s reaction (I was hoping for this scene to be more emotional. Like when he told Robert about the abuse for the first time. Despite that I’m so proud of the progress Aaron has made, especially in terms of opening up about his problems). - Robert telling Aaron what Andy said about them (Another testament to how utterly and completely in love Robert is with Aaron). - Robert suggesting therapy, and Aaron agreeing to it (Might want to get in on some of that yourself my love). - Aaron saying Robert sorted him out. - The fact that even during the worst s/l ever written Robert and Aaron scenes are pure magic. Side note - What
is with Faith and polar bears?
Lows - - Blonde Skank is still alive. - Aaron is suffering - The fact that Robert really can’t tell Aaron what he did or thinks he did because of everything Aaron is going through right now (I hope he does tell him, instead of waiting to get caught out). - “I’m so sorry. I don’t know what else to say?” “I wasn’t thinking. I was being an idiot as usual.” (Understatement much? And you better think of something else to say!) - The upstairs of the mill is “damaged”? (Another major understatement) - “I thought I had reason”(Wreckage reference? After everything ED?!) - The fact that Robron’s fresh start is going to be plagued by the blonde bitch from hell (As if she hasn’t been a disease around them since October). - And for the grand finale: THE FACT THAT WE FOUND OUT, SHE WAS FUCKING PREGNANT ON RELEASE DAY!!!!! I mean of all the days, they had to put it in Thursday’s episode. They had to somehow poison release day for us (Not that they succeeded). But seriously?! Has this fandom not been through enough?! I really hope there is a redeemable twist. Otherwise ED, you lot are just a bunch of sadists.
Okay so I just have to take a moment and say how important this was for me. To see Aaron immediately jump in there and change the subject away from Robert’s dad without any hesitation. He just saw Robert’s face and knew he needed to do something.
Then outside, Robert thanking him. This was everything I want, Aaron being protective of Robert. We see it so often the other way around, with Robert protecting Aaron, but to see this was just so heartwarming and emotional.
The hardest part for me is that Liv, Robert and Aaron have all made it clear that they are not living, they’re all just existing until 6 o’clock when they get to talk to each other. They’re literally counting down the minutes until they can have a couple of minutes together.
But then when they do get that time, they just don’t know what to say to each other, it’s awkward and stilted and yet they’ll go through it all again tomorrow just thinking about those two minutes of conversation they’re going to get at 6 o’clock.
Okay so one last theory from me on the spoilers and then I am going to write the next chapter of Forgetting because people are waiting *cough* @sapphicsugden *cough* and she might hurt me if I take any longer.
I’m just putting my thoughts out there because if any of this does actually work out how I want/hope/think it is I want there to be a record that I was right about a SL for once, because I am usually very, very wrong.
The pregnancy - Moira and Cain is my bet. Now for me this would make sense of the who spots a test and thinks they’re going to be a daddy spoiler. Because it’s plausible that Adam would see the test, knowing that they’re trying for a baby and assume that it’s Vic’s. I’m going for Cain as the dad because we had all that stuff a little while back about him trying to reconcile being a dad to Kyle with the way that Shadrack was with him as a child. He had all that doubt about being a good dad to Kyle, but came around in the end so he knows now that he can be a dad. This would also fit in with the big SL that Moira and Cain have coming up.
The Mind blowing news - So this is going to be for both Robert and Aaron. Mind blowing for me means something good, so good news not bad. It can’t be the reveal of the incident because, well that’s hardly going to be mind blowing for Robert. I think that the news is going to be Adam coming and telling Aaron that he’s going to be a dad and of course Aaron will tell Robert. Let’s face it, this is soap and Adam won’t wait to confirm with Vic before turning to his bet mate in his excitement. So Robert and Aaron are both ridiculously excited because they think they’re going to be uncles, and then Vic has to dash their hopes when it turns out it’s not her who’s pregnant but Moira.
Ross and the blackmail - Again from the spoiler I’m taking that it’s both of them he’s trying to blackmail but I’m going with him seeing them making up for lost time (having sex) somewhere they shouldn’t. It’s going to be a stupid, meaningless comedy side plot and it’s not going to be real blackmail as such. It will be forgotten as soon as it’s mentioned.
