MUST WATCH Horror Movies and Halloween Movies

If you haven’t seen my October bucket list, click HERE to join me for some October fun! PS: This is for people who do not often watch horror movies. I am not including pure classics like Night of the Living Dead for example because non-horror fans would find these movies “boring”.

Hey Brett, I'm planning to watch a scary movie every day during October. Have any recs? I haven't seen The Audtion so that's on the list already (as well as something else I think you watched recently and I'll have to trawl some posts to find it). I haven't watched much horror in recent years so any recent stuff worth seeing is good, but I'm gonna sprinkle in some classics (The Shining, Aliens, and The Thing are on the list at the moment). Big plus if it's on Netflix. Thanks!

Check out my list of horror I’d personally recommend and my list of horror film canon, my attempt at cataloguing the most important horror films in the history of the genre

Finally finalized the list for my October scary-movies-I’ve-never-seen marathon

I don’t really like horror films, I hate torture porn and unnecessarily gratuitous gore. But I like movies that are suspenseful and beautiful looking or artistically/historically/culturally important.
I obviously didn’t include films that fit into this description that I’ve already seen, like The Shining, Poltergeist, Silence of The Lambs, Se7en, Freaks, Shaun of The Dead, Scream, Blair Witch Project, Evil Dead, Halloween, The Others, American Psycho, A Girl Walks Home Alone at Night, etc.

And I’m not including movies that I think are going to be overly upsetting. I love movies but I’m not going to expose myself to triggering imagery unnecessarily or anything that is going to keep me up at night.

  • I don’t know if you guys knew but there’s a movie called Teen Wolf?? It won like a ton of Oscars?? If you want to watch it with me, I’m gonna stream it on Rabbit THIS FRIDAY, OCTOBER 20TH at 8PM EST

  • There’s this other movie, really obscure, called Back to the Fucking Future and because this movie starts on the day October 25th, 1985, I’M GONNA WATCH IT ON WEDNESDAY OCTOBER 25TH at 8PM EST.

  • Also we’re going to watch The Frighteners, BUT I DON’T KNOW WHEN YET, ME AND @realmissmilothatch ARE IN TALKS ABOUT THIS

Digital art I did of Lloyd from The LEGO Ninjago Movie (which I haven’t seen yet but I plan to on October 4th)

I think it turned out pretty well! ^_^

I also have a speedpaint of this on Youtube which you can watch here :)

Hey, so, we’re more than halfway through September. Which means October is fast approaching (time flies!). So that means a couple of things. Come October my horror content will go up. If you dislike that sort of thing just be aware. I do try to tag. It also means the return of The Walking Dead which is one of my bigger fandoms. Expect Sunday nights on here to be FULL of TWD stuff and it won’t be spoiler free though again, I do try to tag.

Also, every October I do a thing called the October Movie Challenge. It started way back on Livejournal many years ago and it basically goes like this:

The challenge is to watch one horror movie a day in October that you’ve never seen before. And if you are so inclined come here and post about it. Now, that’s a lot of movies and I fully admit that I have never watched one every day. But I do usually watch a bunch and I always post about it. So feel free to join me. It’s a fun little challenge and I’ve discovered some great films doing it.

Mostly posting this for my new followers as an fyi.

October 27th, 2014

One of the best horror movies of last year.  The true story of a family seeking help from Ed and Lorraine Warren after being terrorized by the ghost of an old woman in their home.  Some of the story has been tweaked a bit for the movie, but Lorraine Warren said that it is pretty accurate to the actual story.  The actual house itself, being over 150 years old, is sitting on a gigantic plot of land where many suicides and murders have taken place.  The old woman who is said to haunt the house, Bathsheba Sherman, one of the previous owners from the 1800’s, was known for killing her children before the census taker would come by.  This made it to where no one knew she even had children.  One notable incident was her sacrificing her baby in front of the fire place by driving a big sewing needle through its head.  Her gravestone is in the old cemetery in town, it has since been cracked by an unidentifiable source.

This film also introduces the Annabelle doll which was made into a movie this year.  Some of that story is also true as these are both based off of the Warrens actual case files.  The real doll, however is an old 70’s Raggedy Ann doll.

The movie itself is very well done, but the back story makes it that much better so check both out.

Original Annabelle Doll, The cast with the actual family, the real Ed and Lorraine Warren and Bathsheba’s gravestone seen in pictures.
