If These Walls Could Talk 2

  • a bunch of famous actresses (like chloë sevigny, michelle williams, natasha lyonne, ellen degeneres, etc. etc.)

Reasons to Watch the John Wick Movies

Spoiler free. All items are either vague or based on information in the trailers.

  • Keanu Reeves is 52 and does 95% of his own stunts. Check out some of his training footage: (x) (x) (x
  • No female characters run around being “sexy assassins in heels and slinky dresses”. Ruby Rose wears a suit buttoned to her neck. Adrianne Palicki kicks ass in clothes that are actually practical for fighting in. Both are portrayed to be as dangerous as any of their male peers.
    • Claudia Gerini represents the opposite side of the spectrum: that showing skin doesn’t make someone an object and that yes, contrary to what Hollywood thinks, women are still beautiful at 45.
  • No obnoxious monologuing from John. He just wants to get the job done as fast as he can so he can go home to his dog and maybe take a nap.
  • PIT BULLS ARE PORTRAYED AS CUTE AND LOVABLE NOT AGGRESSIVE AND VIOLENT.
  • Literally the plot of the first movie is that a guy goes on a murder rampage to avenge his puppy.
    • Puppy death, though sad, is quick and not shown on-screen.
  • I would die for Ian McShane so I feel the need to mention him somewhere in this list.
  • John Wick has an 85% on Rotten Tomatoes, and John Wick 2 has an 89%. Something especially rare for an action sequel.
  • Seen by many as an art film full of symbolism and references to Greek mythology.
  • The type of movies that acknowledges how ridiculous they are, and even pokes fun at it.
  • There are no needless scenes where John has glistening six pack abs. Especially because John doesn’t have glistening six pack abs, he has a normal, average looking body.
  • ASL is used by multiple characters in Chapter 2.
  • No forced romantic subplots. Just a dude killing people over a puppy.
  • First movie has a really good soundtrack???
  • Lots of death but only one or two scenes with (minimal) gore. Sometimes when a guy goes down you don’t even see any blood.
  • That guy who plays Mayhem in the Allstate commercials is in it because hoooooo boy there is def some mayhem going on.
  • Idk I just really love Keanu Reeves.

THIS HAS BEEN A PSA. REBLOG TO SAVE A MOVIE NIGHT.

Movie on Netflix y’all need to watch

  • George Takei is in it and he plays himself, literally, and it’s great

Newt: I’m gonna tell you all of my secrets.
Percival: Oh, no, that’s not necessary.
Newt: I once forgot to brush my teeth for five weeks.
I didn’t actually sell my last car. I just forgot where I parked it.
I don’t know who Grindelwald is. And at this point I’m too afraid to ask.
When they say 2% milk, I don’t know what the other 98% is.

I once threw beer at a niffler, and then it attacked my niece Rebecca.
Percival: That’ll do, Newton.

(Parks and Recreation; season 6, episode 16: New Slogan)

My God. There is so much stuff out there, so many filler and substandard and just for now stories, that you mostly forget what a real masterpiece is like until you walk straight into one and BAM, it shakes your very soul out of your fucking ears. Guys, I may have more coherent thoughts on this later on, but for now - just go and see Blade Runner 2049. It deserves to be seen, and it deserves to be seen in a real theater, because everything about it is plain perfect, including those elements that work so well on a larger-than-life screen - sound and light and photography and Jesus Christ, I only now realize how much I’d missed this: storytelling grabbing at what makes us human and leaving us amazed and shocked and scared shitless and, most of all, holding on for dear life. Wow. All the stars and all the kudos to everyone involved.

anonymous asked:

What would you recommend to someone who is just starting to watch horror movies?

Oh hell, yeah!! I love giving recs and I LOVE when people start getting interested in horror. I’ll give you recs in a few different categories so that you don’t watch anything you wouldn’t enjoy:

Early Horror Movies (Most Are Black and White, 1900′s-1950′s):

Personal Favorites From the 1960′s (Suspenseful):

Must-Sees of the 70′s (The Beginning of the Golden Era):

1980′s Cult Classics (The decade of good special-effects make up):

Horror-Comedies:

Best of 2000′s-now:

Other Favorites (AKA 90′s horror):

Go see Baby Driver

If you haven’t seen Baby Driver yet, you don’t know what you’re missing. The sheer physicality of this film is astounding, and then you add in one of the cleverest uses of a soundtrack ever. It has genuinely likable characters and one of the best representations of a disabled characters I’ve seen in a while. Throw in humor, a whole lot of heart, incredible action sequences, and actual consequences for the protagonist, and it’s easily one of the best movies of the year.

I honestly could rant about this for some time, but instead just go see Baby Driver and then we can rant together.

  • Mary Jane: Hey! This is my boyfriend, Peter, and this is Peter's boyfriend, Wade.
  • Stranger: Hey! Oh. Wait, sorry. What's the situation?
  • MJ: What do you mean?
  • Stranger: How does this work?
  • MJ: Peter is gay but he's straight for me and gay for Wade and Wade's really gay for Peter. And I hate Wade.
  • Peter: It's not that complicated.
  • Wade: No.

basically chapter two of IT

richie: from now on, we’ll be using codenames. you can address me as ‘eagle 1.’ bill, code name, 'been there done that.’

bill: d-dude…

richie: eddie is, 'currently doing that.’

eddie and richie: *high fives each other*

richie: ben is,'it happened once in a dream’

ben: *winks*

richie: beverly code name, 'if i had to pick a chick.’

beverly: what an honor

richie: mike is… 'eagle 2’

mike: oh thank god

richie: 'i’d be lying if i said i hadn’t thought about it’ will be stan

everyone: what

richie: what

anonymous asked:

random question but do you have a FAVORITE gay-themed movie? and can you recommend some good ones? sorry i know it's a weird question

oh darling i’m a complete film geek so it’s not a weird question at all  :)

if i had to pick one favourite then it would definitely be Weekend. it’s so brutally honest, both in the way it’s shot and in it’s directing and acting. and also, when i was watching it for the first time (with headphones on) i had to hold a pillow in front of my face because i felt like i was watching two people through a key hole and i felt like i was intruding on their private life. if a film makes you feel like that then you know it’s good.

as for the recommendation bit i have to say that there are a lot of absolutely terrible LGBTQ films out there, full of clichés and “for-effect” plots. but here are some “gay themed” films that i would actually recommend watching:

and yes, i’ve intentionally picked films that involves younger people, since i think that speaks to tumblr more. and i would urge you not to be discouraged by the fact that ½ of these are not in english. i can tell you that if you’ve chosen not to watch films in the past just because they’re not in english then you’ve missed out on a glorious slice of life, trust me.

Percival: History began on July 4th, 1776. Anything before that was a mistake.

(Parks and Recreation; Season 6, Episode 1: London Part 1)

Happy 4th of July, you punk-ass book jockeys!

Mandarin (mostly) Movie Recommendations!

Learning Chinese? Enjoy watching movies? I have some recommendations for you!  Some of these aren’t entirely in Mandarin, or even mostly in Mandarin, but the are all movies that I greatly enjoyed!

Hero/英雄

(Country: Mainland China, Language: Mandarin)

Great Wuxia film. The way they use different colors in this movie is really cool.  Also, if you’re familiar with or want to study literary Chinese the concept of 天下in this film might be helpful for your understanding.

You are the Apple of My Eye/那些年,我们一起追求的女孩)

(Country: Taiwan, Language: Mandarin)

Cute, funny movie about how a boy who is a bad student gets in trouble and is then required to sit in front of the best student in the class so she can keep an eye on him.  It follows their lives from there.  It’s also apparently based on a semi-autobiographical novel.  The ending is a little bitter sweet.

  Hear Me/听说

(Country: Taiwan, Language: Taiwanese Sign Language, Taiwanese, Mandarin)

Romance story between a delivery guy and a girl working to support her sister who is training to be a swimmer in the deaflympics.  Mostly in sign language and Taiwanese, but has a few Mandarin scenes.  The main character’s sister is played by Michelle Chen, who is the female lead in You are the Apple of My Eye.  The male leads parents are played by the same actors who play Cheng Youqing’s parents in the drama In Time with You.

Our Times/我的少女时代

(Country: Taiwan, Language: Mandarin)

The plot of this movie is similar to You are the Apple of my Eye, but it has more of a fairy tail ending.  The male lead eats a lot of 麻酱面, which is one of my favorite Taiwanese foods. Overall a cute, funny movie.

Cafe. Waiting. Love/等一个人咖啡

(Country: Taiwan, Language: Mandarin)

This movie is one the weird side, but that’s part of it’s charm.  The male lead loses bets and has to wear a bikini everyday for a month and keep a cabbage on a leash as a pet. It has some bizarre magic elements as well.  Based on a novel by the same author who wrote You are the Apple of my Eye.  At the end it has cameos from a character from You are the Apple of my Eye and Cape No. 7.

Cape No. 7

(Country: Taiwan, Language: Taiwanese, Mandarin, Japanese)

A good film to watch if you want to understand Taiwan better, specifically the relationship between Taiwan and Japan.  It is also the highest grossing domestic film in Taiwan.  It’s about a guy who tries to make it as a rock singer in Taipei, but fails and decides to go back to his home in southern Taiwan.

Saturday Detention
