move to a new city

Unsettling facts about Jeffrey Dahmer

1. When Jeffrey was a kid, he loved to play with dead animal bones. He’d go out and collect roadkill, then clean and bleach the bones.

2. Dahmer’s issues may have stemmed from an early childhood surgery, as well as the breakup of his parents’ marriage and a move to a new city. Family members say they noticed an abrupt change in his behavior after the hernia surgery at age six.

3. After high school, Dahmer enlisted in the army, but his alcoholism led to his eventual discharge.

4. He stole a mannequin from a store and kept it for sexual uses.

5. He was living with his grandma in Milwaukee while many of his murders and sexual crimes were committed. She wasn’t aware of what her grandson was doing, but his late nights and drinking led her to kick him out.

6. When the police entered Dahmer’s house of horrors, they found three human heads chilling in the freezer next to Hot Pockets and ice cream.

7. The inmate who killed Dahmer, a schizophrenic man named Christopher Scarver, told the “New York Post” that one of his reasons was because Dahmer made mini-sculptures resembling human limbs out of his food in jail.

This is not a drill: Netflix is making a movie about Barack Obama as a young person figuring out his place in the world

Newcomer Devon Terrell plays Barry as he moves to New York City and enrolls in Columbia University. His navigation of biracial identity seems to be particularly front and center, and the film is already drawing its share of positive reviews.

Yuri on Ice BD audio commentary translation - Volume 3

Translation of the audio commentary of the BD/DVD vol.3, by Mitsurou Kubo and Junichi Suwabe, voice actor of Victor Nikiforov. I really wanted to post this before the weekend because I’m not going to be home a lot, so I decided “well, I might just not sleep tonight and translate this instead”… This time there are some parts that I translated almost integrally. They talk a lot about Victor, especially Suwabe’s struggle to get into the role. It provides insight while at the same time not providing… since apparently it’s very hard to guess what is “right” when talking about Victor. I’m sure you will get what I mean if you read what they say…

The commentary is only for episode 6. Episode 5 has no commentary. It’s not a full translation but I summarized most of what they said, and as I wrote above some parts are almost completely translated. As in the previous ones, the format is different from normal interview translations, and you can find my comments too (mostly in brackets).

Translation under the post because it’s long. Enjoy!

Reggie Mantle x Reader: Flower Power

A Reggie x Reader where the reader starts giving Reggie a flower each day and he’ll wear it in his hair and lots of fluff please?

A/N: This one was so cute to write, so I hope you guys enjoy. Also sorry for being a bit slow on uploading requests my cat likes to bother me while I write. Tomorrow I’m going to be busy, so don’t expect much tomorrow sorry. Also the reader will be a Lodge in this imagine and is moving in to Riverdale with her family after what her dad did.

Words: 1207

Summary: Reader is new to Riverdale and she hears all these rumors about Reggie Mantle from her sisters (Veronica) friend Betty, but she believes in goodness in everyone even Reggie.

Spoilers: N/A

Warnings: Reggie and Reader cuteness overload.

Moving was hard, moving away from all your friends and everything you’ve even known and starting from scratch was harder. Your mother Hermione always talked fondly about her time at Riverdale. She and your father grew up there and since your mother had some property there, you were now moving from the radiant awake city that was New York.

What made it easier was your sister Veronica, she was the more stylish one, and you were only a few months apart. She was your partner in crime, you don’t think you could survive without her.

You moved into Riverdale in the middle of the downpour. The chaos of a murderer on the loose and the beloved quarterback Jason Blossom life came to sad end.

Veronica made friends with a sweet girl named Betty in the summer and Betty introduced you to her friends. Kevin had no filter which you loved, Archie was complicated (but he was good at music and hoped to join the football team when school started a bit of a cliché). Jughead Jones the Third he claimed, was a bit of a mystery, but a great writer.

One day you were all hanging out in the park, when you saw him alone with his dog.

“Who’s that?” you interrupted the conversation and pointed at the tall figure with luscious black hair.

“That’s Reggie Mantle” Kevin answered.

“Reggie” you cheered and Veronica gave you a smirk.

“He’s kind of a player (Y/N)” Betty chimed in.

“So is Veronica, that doesn’t mean I can hate and judge my sister” you chuckled as she gave you a nudge in the shoulder as the group laughed.

“He’s also a bully” Jughead spoke while typing away on his laptop.

“Sorry that he bullies you, but bullies do have a reason for bullying even if it’s not the best argument, they have a reason” you reasoned.

“Why’d you think he bullies me?” Jughead retorted as he lifted his eyebrow.

“Oh, just a hunch” you replied with a smile on your face “I’ll be back” you shared with them as you stood up from the bench and walked towards Reggie, not wanting to be empty handed you picked up a daisy from the grass.

“Cute dog, does it have a name?” you gestured at Reggie.

“Vader” he answered as you reached your hand out to give him the daisy as he gave you a puzzled look.

“I come in peace” you reassured as you placed the small flower on his right ear.

“My name is (Y/N)” you pointed out as Vader was running after his tail.

“Reggie, you new around here?” he questioned as he fixed the daisy in his ear.

“That obvious, or is it the fact that in small towns everybody knows everybody” you chuckled.

“Well that, and you’re talking to me” he implied with a small smile.

“Well, I don’t know you and if I listened to what everyone had to say I could miss out on some great things” you claimed with a smile on your face and he chuckled.

You and Reggie actually became great friends. He confided in you on things he’d never say to anyone, you would even go jogging together every morning and you made sure to always have a flower for him, and he always sweetly placed it in his ear. He also promised to leave Jughead alone.

Tomorrow was going to be your first day at Riverdale High. Your mother, Veronica and you occupied the dinner table as Smithers brought you your food.

“So mija” your mother spoke “I heard you have been hanging out with Reggie Mantle a lot” your mother directed at you.

“Yeah, I have, he’s a really great guy” you claimed.

“Rumor has it-” your mother was cut off by you.

“Rumor has it what?! Mom, I cannot stand it when people label people before getting to know them. We are who are, not what people say we are. I am not a corrupt money taker like people claim because of my father’s mistake. Reggie is who he is, he shows a different side to the world and it is a privilege to know the real Reggie. Besides he just lost a friend to a murderer on the loose in your beloved Riverdale mom. I don’t want to hear any more of this.” You ranted and dropped your fork, now at a loss in your appetite because of your mother.

“I’m sorry (Y/N), I- I was out of line, and you are so correct” your mother concluded and Ronnie took your hand in hers.

The school day was about to start and Betty was assigned to show you and Veronica around. Betty pointed you to your first class as you scanned the hallways for Reggie to give him his flower of the day.

“Do you really think he’ll take your flower in front of the whole school and his neanderthals?” Ronnie questioned you as Betty gave you a small smile.

“If he doesn’t, then you were all right. I wasted my time getting to know a great guy who was too scared to show his true self to the world, and I’ll never speak to him again.” You proclaimed.

You left Betty and Veronica and made your way to Reggie who was at his locker with his posse.

“Hey Reg” you spoke up a bit nervous because you were really hoping he wouldn’t turn you down because you enjoyed hanging out with him.

“Hey (Y/N)” Reggie turned away from his posse.

“Hmm, you’re wearing a cap” you gave him a sad smile.

“That’s okay” he answered with a chuckle as he placed the flower on the hole of his snapback.

You couldn’t help but place a huge smile on your face as he showed of his flower of the day for all the school to see.

Later you were home alone your mom was working at Pops and Veronica was trying out for the River Vixens with Betty, since Smithers had just stepped and you jumped when you heard the doorbell ring.

A bit scared since you were binge watching Criminal Minds and there was a murderer on the lose you grabbed a bat and opened the door.

“Whoa! (Y/N) you can but the bat down it’s just me” Reggie removed the bat from your hands and dropped it as you let him in.

“What you got there?” you cheered at the bouquet of flowers Reggie had in his hands.

“Um” Reggie scratched his head as he still had his flower of the day on his forehead clinging from the snapback “I- I was hoping you would accompany me to the homecoming dance this Friday” he confessed as you took the bouquet.

“Oh my god” you gasped at the bouquet.

“Yeah um it has every single flower you have given me” he concluded as you pulled him into a hug.

As soon as he let go you planted a kiss on his soft lips and mentally thanked the universe for letting him into your life no matter what anyone said.

“So that’s a yes” Reggie cheered as you both let go.

“For you, a thousand times over (This is a quote from The Kite Runner)” you smiled.

Sit down buckaroos because I’m gonna share some historical insight with you because of ignorant people who are trying to discard the most badass character in all of feminist characters in musical theatre history and I won’t take that.
Katherine Ethel Pulitzer was a real person - daughter of Joseph and Kate Pulitzer. So there’s fact number 1 to prove she was an actual living person in the 1800’s. Fact 2. When you say women weren’t journalists back then well you obviously have never heard nor read about Elizabeth Jane Cochran also known by her pen name “Nellie Bly”. She was the inspiration behind Katherine’s character in the first place. They basically merged the real Katherine with Nellie and created this character. Nellie Bly began writing for “The Pittsburg Dispatch” in 1885 and moved to New York City two years later to begin working at “New York World”. She was known for her investigative and undercover reporting, including posing as a sweatshop worker to expose poor working conditions faced by women. She earned her acclaim in 1887 when she went undercover at an asylum on Blackwell’s Island and posed as one of the patients to get the story and in turn had launched a full on investigation on the treatment of the institution and the well being of patients (which wasn’t a well being at all with neglect and physical abuse) in said facility. In 1889 she went around the world in a record-setting 72 days, 6 hours, 11 minutes and 14 seconds in attempt to break the faux record of Phileas Fogg, the fictional title character in Jules Verne’s novel “Around the World in 80 Days”. At the age of 18 (my age) she submitted a racy response to an editorial piece that had been published in The Pittsburgh Dispatch that made sexist statements towards women. The writer was Erasmus Wilson (known as the Quiet Observer or Q.O.) Nellie’s letter grabbed the attention of the paper’s managing editor, George Madden, who then offered her a position. She later published a book about the experience titled: “Around the World in 72 Days” in 1890.
So don’t you DARE tell me Katherine Plumber wasn’t a vital asset to these boy’s story. She’s more of an inspiration to me than ANY character I’ve read about. Nellie Bly is an inspiration who makes me want a writing career. I am very much like Katherine (in more ways than just having power bangs) and because of her I’ve learned to love myself. Because of her I can get through days when I’ve got a shit ton of Senior year homework knocking me down. Because of her I’m happier. Katherine and Nellie are huge inspirations to me and if you hate either one of them just unfollow me now. Because these two are my role models and always will be❤

Stiles walks into a coffee shop in the new city he moves to after college one night because he can’t sleep.

Sitting at the front of the shop with an acoustic guitar in hand is Derek Hale. His voice is calming and a little smokey as he sings. When he finishes the song he looks up and sees Stiles.

Derek’s eyes go a little wide for a millisecond before he smiles. It’s a soft smiles, the kind that Stiles never saw on Derek, the kind that wasn’t burdened.

“This last one is a cover,” Derek says and he proceeds to play Werewolves of London.

Stiles snorts before he can stop himself and then goes to buy a coffee. He finds a seat near the back of the shop and drinks it while Derek cleans his stuff up. When he finishes he comes back to Stiles and sits down, a twinkle in his eyes.

“That last one was for Jackson,” Derek says, voice even and Stiles thinks he’s being serious for a second before he smiles and Stiles laughs, “It’s good to see you Stiles, you in town for a while.”

“I just moved here for work actually,” Stiles says with a smile at the quirk upward in Derek’s lips at that fact, “It’s good to see you too.” And it was true, in fact, if Derek keeps smiling like that and making jokes he might want to see a lot more of him.

Prompt #72

You just moved to a new city, and there is this old, Victorian building on your street.

Once you start school, everyone talks about the ghosts that haunt the place.

But, you don’t go to the house to see if it’s haunted. No, your family is full of the witches that tied the ghosts to the house.

Stereotypical (7) gifts and a sleepover

Bucky Barnes x reader AU (short series)

Notes: swearing, flirting, implied smut, fluff, Bucky is a hopeless romantic.

A/N: With courting comes gifts! And restraint. A lot of it.

If you would’ve seen how Bucky beat himself up over making you doubt his motives, all doubt would’ve left your mind. When he returned home after dropping you off with a chaste, lingering kiss to your cheek and a soft bid goodnight, he rested his back against his closed front door and let his head thump back against it.

With a groan he closed his eyes, wondering how he could’ve been so damn stupid.

“Buck? What’re you doing?”

41. “I came to this city to mend my broken heart. Never imagined I would find you to help me piece it back together.“

The room was filled with familiar faces. The music that was playing was a little before your time but you enjoyed it nonetheless. Tony Stark was throwing yet another elaborate party for a reason unbeknownst to you. The man just loved to have parties for no reason.

You stood idly by, not really feeling like mingling. You were content with drinking the expensive champagne that Tony sprung for and people watching.

Martha Minerva Franklin (1870-1968)

Art by Anna Rüth (instagram

The daughter of a black Union solider, Martha grew up in Connecticut.  She graduated from the Women’s Hospital Training School for Nurses in December 1897.  She was the only black student in her class.  Minerva began her career working as a private nurse in Connecticut.

In 1906, Martha surveyed more than 500 black nurses.  She discovered that while the prestigious American Nurses Association was technically open to all races, many black nurses were effectively barred from the national organization because it required membership in State Nurses Associations, many of which refused to admit black members.

Martha organized a national meeting of black nurses in New York City.  The attendees formed the National Association of Colored Graduate Nurses and Martha was elected president.  The organization’s goals were to improve training for black nurses, reduce racial inequality in the nursing profession, and cultivate leaders from within the black nursing community.

In 1928, Martha moved to New York City and enrolled in a post-graduate course at Lincoln Hospital.  After graduation, she qualified as a registered nurse and began working as a school nurse.  After her retirement, Martha moved to New Haven to live with her sister.  She died at the age of 98.

The National Association of Colored Graduate Nurses flourished during World War II.  The need for wartime nurses combined with the organization’s activism expanded employment and training opportunities for black nurses.   First Lady Eleanor Roosevelt and Congresswoman Frances Bolton provided strong support for these changes.  After the war, the National Association of Colored Graduate Nurses voted unanimously to join the American Nurses Association.  The National Association of Colored Graduate Nurses disbanded in 1951.

Transformation Tuesday

(Below) On the left, I am wearing a men’s 2X t-shirt that was extremely tight on me in high school; it needed to be a 3X. It’s the only article of clothing I have left from those days. I wish I kept others! On the right, I am graduating high school and at or close to my highest recorded weight (312 lbs). I’ve written a lot more about my proper story if you’d like to read it here. But, I want to talk a little more about the person I was and am today. My weight loss journey started after a sleep apnea and prediabetes diagnosis my Freshman year of college. I also was seeing the beginnings of mobility issues. I decided against CPAP, knew type 2 diabetes would be soon if I didn’t change my lifestyle, and started losing the weight.

Girl on the Left

  • she takes care of herself
  • she believes in all her talents, charisma, humor, creativity, and smarts
  • she doesn’t back down from a challenge
  • she can reign in difficult situations and coolly formulate a plan
  • she can leg press the 170 lbs she’s lost (and is only going to lift more)
  • she can run a half marathon
  • she was given a clean bill of health
  • she doesn’t want to hide anymore
  • she doesn’t bottle her emotions anymore
  • she shares her story; the good and bad, hoping it helps others
  • she approaches people
  • she tells someone when they’ve wronged her
  • she is worth it

Girl on the Right

  • she wouldn’t dream of showing people the music she’s written
  • she thinks all her art and poetry is awful, too
  • she thinks everything she says is weird and awkward
  • she overthinks absolutely everything
  • she solves all her problems; temporarily, with food and soda
  • it is painful for her to move and complete simple tasks despite only being 18
  • she can’t breathe while she sleeps
  • she worries about how long she’ll live, even at this very young age
  • she thinks her problems and emotions are trivial and not worth sharing with anyone
  • she thinks she just needs to suck it up
  • she opens up to no one
  • she wants to hide and locks herself in her bedroom
  • she feels trapped

I don’t like to think in terms of before and after, because many of these internal changes happened much, much sooner. They have to! And, it’s never over, either. This is a path I’ve chosen for the rest of my life and it will always need upkeep from me. Sometimes I revert to terrible mindsets and habits. It just happens! While I’m different in so many ways, in a strange way I’m also not. I’m merely free now. I’m the same person, just risen above her circumstances. They still crafted me, but I direct them now. I’m not an actor in my own life. I own this life. My name is first on that damn credits list. Mine. All mine. I did this. Me.

I want to share many glimpses between the two points in time I’ve shared today because everything is really a “during,” isn’t it?

She started smiling a lot

She acted like a damn fool

She learned many new talents, moved to a big city, and played fiddle in the park

She started wearing clothes that made her feel good, not camouflaged

One more side-by-side. People seem pretty amused to find out about the goth phase, and I still love metal and spooky stuff! I was a sophomore in high school on the right.

Summary: You had thought moving into a new city and starting a new school would be easy. That was until you met your neighbour.

A/N : Part IV!!! It’s been a long, long, long time. (almost a year ffs) But here it is! Hopefully, the next updates will be much faster. Please do anticipate and criticism are very much appreciated. ENJOY GUYS!!

Part I  Part II Part III Part IV

You weren’t exactly sure where your position with Jungkook stood from then. Your relationship, if you could even call it that, was complicated. Twisted, bundled and full of tangled webs of confusion.

He was Jungkook and you were, well you.

And with the way Jiyoon hated you, it was safe to say that associating yourself with the likes of him wasn’t the safest option. Neither was it an idea you particularly thought was good.

But it was fair to say that you’d always loved taking chances and Jungkook was a risk you were willing to take- willing to play against Jiyoon.

Even if you didn’t know it just yet.

And you weren’t quite sure where in place that car journey put you even after you’d spent hours into the night pondering about it, racking your mind for something to ease you, some type of closure.

James Olsen
  • I really don't understand a this hate mon el is getting, and all the love $& support James is getting.
  • The guy CHEATED on his girlfriend who moved to a new city just to be with him, having/developing feelings for someone when you're in a committed relationship is 100% cheating, it doesn't have to be physical for it to be considered cheating.
  • He was FULLY AWARE of his growing feelings for Kara while he was still in a relationship with Lucy and instead of doing the decent thing to both of them, which is breaking up with Lucy because it's not fair to keep leading her on while at the same time leading Kara on as well, that exactly what he did he kept leading on these two amazing women stringing them along, not really letting either one move on from paining over him and another working at job that doesn't quit fit her.
  • Yet somehow James is Saint and mon el is jerk?? The second mon el started having feelings for Kara he stopped his play boy act even refusing a drink from an Aline woman 2x08, even his date with eve was a total fail because all he can talk about is her, he wasn't able to just tuck away his feelings and just lead on anyone not even for one date, he also lied about his date to Kara so Kara wouldn't feel bad/guilty that he has these feelings for her, that she doesn't reciprocate his feelings.
  • So really who's the real jerk?? The guy who didn't respect or appreciate two amazing women who were crazy about him and just lead them on for MONTHS or the guy who respected a woman choice/feelings and appreciate her enough not to pressure her into anything she didn't want?

ok lena said kara is her only friend in national city, but who are her friends outside of national city? imagine lena actually having people she used to hang out with there, but then giving them up so she could try to rebuild her company? imagine moving to a new city bc your family ruined the way people percieve you and losing the normalcy of your old life, having to immerse yourself in your work because you really dont have anything else to do? i cry
