Infinite List of Movies: [43/??] Lemonade Mouth (2011)
↳ “Poets, geniuses, revolutionaries. Lemonade Mouth has been called all of these things. But the real story, the story of our band came to be, is a mystery to them all.”
I just found out about her and I am in love. She was a lady naturalist in the 1600s and went on one of the first major scientific expeditions to collect specimens! At the age of 52! After leaving her husband to raise her two daughters alone! She was creating scientific illustrations before many species were even classified- in fact, Linnaeus used some of HER work to classify different butterfly species! She was coming up with actual theories on the metamorphosis of caterpillars (she LOVED caterpillars) when her contemporaries were still discussing spontaneous generation, which was a popular theory in ancient Greece! And while she’s primarily known for being a super important early entomologist, she also drew some REALLY. COOL. REPTILES.
Interesting fact about these two- the animal Merian actually drew was a Columbian or golden tegu, which you can tell by the single loreal scale and the lack of a lateral line marking. The pen and ink version is in the holdings of the Morgan Museum and Library; the original watercolor is in the holdings of Royal Collection Trust. However, the flipped technicolour version was done by a colorist when Merian’s drawings were published as etchings in a book titled Metamorphosis Insectorum Surinamensium (The Metamorphosis of the Insects of Suriname). I have no idea why the colorist went in that direction, as that is not an animal that appears in nature.
