Norse Gods (And Other Deities) List

Having seen various incorrect, incomplete and inaccurate lists of Norse gods circulating Tumblr, I have decided to write my own and also include common terminology alongside. I will also include other beings who exist within the old lore and modern traditions.

I have opted to include the names in Norwegian, with translations in parenthesise after, along with a brief summary of some of the associations given to some of those gods. Be aware that, as an overview, brevity is necessary here and the individuals should not be oversimplified to basic aspects in your practice!

FOR ANYONE WHO WANTED THE TRANSLATION OF WHAT ODIN SAID IN THE UPDATE!!

“Jotun Modir…”

What seems to be happening is Odin is speaking in his native language after being woken up, which seems to be a mishmash of anglosaxon runes and english letters. (headcanon confirmed nice)

Jotun is the ancient Norse for giant, and Modir was the mythological figure who gave birth to the Jarls, so Odin’s saying Giant Mother???
EDIT: It’s PROBABLY Odin saying it like an exclamation i.e “mother of god…” or something like that, you know aye, he’s had a rough week to be fair.

Midsummer Queen - Thor x Reader

@audreythetealovingcat, There was indeed a few request for the batboys, but surprisingly enough, Thor was also up there…So here, I’m giving you some Thor dude, hope you guys’ll like it (mehmehmeh) :

Summary : Reader is in an established relationship with Thor, and he decides to finally take her to Asgard. She’s not sure she likes the idea…

(My masterlist blog here : https://ella-ravenwood-archives.tumblr.com)

______________________________________________________________________

You almost threw up.

You weren’t really expecting the travel from Earth to Asgard to be this…special. Your entire reality warped, extended, everything went so fast and was so bright and oh my god why so many different colors…and then all of a sudden, it stopped, leaving you wanting to vomit your guts everywhere.

You didn’t though. Thank God (or Gods ?). You held a bit tighter Thor’s hand though, and wished really hard that the world would stop spinning. He misinterpreted your clinginess with excitement, and wrapped an arm around your shoulder. Great, more support. You let your body slumped on his side, glad that sometimes, your boyfriend was so oblivious to things. If he knew you felt ill, he would have freaked out and you’d have been ridiculous in front of the little audience that was there…

A few people were waiting. You didn’t know most of them but you recognize Thor’s friends, Volstagg, Fandral, Hogun and…Sif. Damn, she was beautiful. Thor told you about her when you asked about previous girlfriends, apparently, they had a thing, but it never really worked out…She was staring at you coldly. Great. A new friend already…

-Welcome to my home, my love. This is Heimdall, the gate keeper. Good friend of mine. You already know those four, and that’s my mother, Frigga, and my father, Odin. Everyone, may I present to you Lady Y/N, my woman.

You couldn’t help but smile at how he called you. “My woman”. On Earth, most people would think it was a bit rude to call one’s girlfriend like that. But Asgard wasn’t Earth, and obviously, it was totally normal. But as soon as you realized you were actually in front of Thor’s parents, you started to get extremely nervous again. You knew it was a bad idea to come here…

His Human Mate - Part 4

So Frigga’s alive, and Odin’s a dick. I hope you guys like it! Send me any ideas that you have for continuing the story!

———-

It has been almost a year since you had been abducted by HYDRA and your courting with Loki was coming to an end. As per tradition, on the anniversary of your courting you are supposed to meet Loki’s father, well adopted father, and ask for him to bless your mating. This means that you have to go to Asgard, and of course Tony refuses to let you go alone.

“I don’t need you there, Tony! It’s a meeting between four people, and you aren’t one of them!”

Tony lets out a growl, “I won’t let you go through interdimensional travel with just Loki! Several of the Avengers are going. Thor promised to give us a tour of Asgard when you’re in your meeting”

Huffing you throw your hands into the air, “Fucking wolf, fucking team”

“Fine, you can come, as long as you don’t cause any problems, and you don’t embarrass me in front of my future in-laws.”

Tony grumbles, “Still don’t understand why you had to fall for a blood-sucker. Could have had anyone else, but you gotta choose the one guy with bigger daddy issues than me”

“I love him, Tones. I love him a lot, and I love the fact that you two get along, but he’s had time to get used to your humor. Odin is already an asshole, and he hates the fact that I’m human and my brother’s a wolf. According to Thor, Odin has been pushing women onto Loki every time the two go back to Asgard, and you’ve seen Sif, they have to be gorgeous, and Odin’s pissed that he keeps rejecting them.”

Another growl leaves Tony, “You really don’t need his approval, you can just get mated with Steve’s approval, he’s the pack leader. You don’t need to go begging to Odin”

You rub your face and sigh, “I already have Steve’s approval. Loki’s still a Prince, and the prince needs the kings’ approval to mate according to Asgardian tradition.”

Tony walks over to you and pulls you into a hug, “He’ll love you once he meets you. When he see’s how much Loki and you love each other, he won’t have any choice but to bless your mating, or risk losing his son again”

You sniffle and cling to your bother, “I’m so scared, Tony. What is they hate me? What if Loki realizes that I’m not worth it? What if Odin refused to let us be together?!”

“Now you listen to me, you are a Stark, and Starks are as strong as iron, remember?”

You straighten you back and wipe away your tears, “Starks always fight for what they want”

“That’s right, Y/N. So, are you just gonna let Odin rule your life, or are you gonna fight for Reindeer Games?”

You roll your eyes and give Tony a playful shove, “You’re such an asshole!”

“But I got you to smile!”

Rolling your eyes you throw a pillow at Tony, “Go away so I can finish packing”

“Fine! Fine! But we leave in an hour, so be ready by then”

“I will!!”

When you finally walk out of Heimdall’s dome, because everyone but Thor and Loki ended up almost getting sick, you are speechless. You quickly head to the group of horses and one of the guards standing there helps you up.

“It’s beautiful here!”

Loki chuckles and gets up on his black horse, which is, conveniently, right next to yours, “I suppose Asgard has its beauty, if you like gold, that is”

You glance at him out of the corner of your eye, admiring how regal he looks in his armor and on his mount, “I actually prefer silver, but gold does have its beauty”

Thor’s booming laugh sounds behind you, “She truly is the perfect match for you, brother! Now come my friends, Mother and Father are awaiting our arrival”

“Don’t go too fast, Thor. Some people haven’t ridden horses as much as you have” Steve calls out.

You just smirk and lock eyes with both Loki and Tony, “Race you!”

With a final laugh, you spur your horse on. You can hear Tony and Loki take off after you. It feels like you’re flying, somehow Asgardian horses are faster than the horse you’re used to. You let out an indignant shout when Loki’s horse passes yours and he beats you to the finish line.

Loki laughs when he catches you pouting over your loss, “Come on, dove. You put up a valiant fight, however my steed is the fastest in Asgard, there was no way you were going to beat me” He brings himself closer and pulls you into a gentle kiss.

The others catch up after a few minutes and you three rejoin the group to head to the castle. “Thor said that we’ll drop you and Loki off in the throne room, and he’ll give us a tour until you get out”

“Alright, Stevie. You know that you didn’t have to come, right? I hate to pull you away from everyone else for so long”

Steve chuckles, “I’m your pack leader, I wouldn’t miss this for the world. I won’t let one of my pack members go through this alone.”

“I really appreciate that”

Loki draws up beside you, “We’re here, dove. We’ll leave the horse with the stable hands. Mother and Odin are waiting for our arrival.”

You quickly dismount and hand over the reins. “Are you nervous, babe?”

“I believe that mother will love you. All she has ever wanted is mine and Thor’s happiness. It is Odin who has always wanted to arrange a marriage with one of the other worlds.”

“Well, maybe we can convince Odin that I’m good for you. We can say something about my influence on you, how I make you less crazy”

He chuckles and pulls you close, “I’d go insane without you, dove”

“I know, my prince, I know”

Walking into the great hall and up to Odin’s throne is probably one of the most terrifying thing that you have ever done.

“Don’t be afraid, love” Loki whispers

You smirk, “Don’t lose your temper “

He lets out a low chuckle and takes you hand, “I’ll do my best”

Once the two of you are finally in front of the throne, you curtsy and Loki dips his head in a slight bow. The woman stands up, gracefully descending the stairs, “My son, it is good to see you healthy”

“Hello mother” Loki’s eyes widen when she pulls him into a hug and you try to stifle your laughter, “I’d like to introduce you to my intended, Y/N. She is a warrior of Midgard and …”

“She is a human.” Odin’s voice booms out, echoing.

This time you speak up, “Yes I am “

Loki clears his throat, “I have come, as tradition dictates, to ask for you to bless our mating”

Odin sneers, “You expect me to allow one of the two princes of Asgard to become life-mates with a Midgardian female?”

“Husband …”

“No, Frigga. She is nothing but a blip on his timeline, nothing but a Midgardian whore intent on gaining access to Loki’s riches. Loki, the insane prince, there is no reason for her to want him other than to get his riches. No one would want a failure as their life mate for any other reason”

“You pompous asshole!”

Loki and Odin both snap their heads toward you, “Y/N don’t …”

“No, Loki. I will not be talked about and insulted when I am standing right here. I understand that he is concerned about my intentions toward you, I mean what parent isn’t? But seriously? A Midgardian whore? Listen Odin, Mr. All-Father, Mr. High and mighty, I don’t really care what you think about me, I don’t need your approval. I already have the approval of my pack leader and that’s all I need. I am here to satisfy your traditions. And you really think that you can just insult my mate and not have anyone say anything?” You scoff, “You really are the complete asshole that I thought you would be!”

“Y/N, dove, please …”

“Loki, darling, I don’t need his approval. I’m not from this world. I came here for you, but I won’t let him insult you. As you said, I’m a warrior, and I’ll protect you from any kind of threat, even a verbal one”

You turn defiant eyes back to Odin, whose entire face had gone red. “Throw her in the dungeon, in Loki’s cell”

Loki lets out a shout, but the guards are already dragging you away. “Locking me up won’t make you feel better!” You scream

“Odin!!” Frigga shouts, “Stop this madness, this instant! She is a warrior of Midgard, they will not stand for this! You will start another war!!”

“Put. Her. In. The. Dungeon. I am king, Frigga, and you will not challenge me” Odin snarls

You wriggle and snarl the entire way to the dungeon, getting a variety of bruises and cuts for your effort. “Let go of me! My pack will come for me!”

The guard chuckles and throws you onto a square platform, “Let them come. They will join you in your cell.”

Snarling again you lunge forward, but are stopped when a shimmering shield blocks your path. The guards laugh at your rage, and walk away. Limping to the back corner of the room you curl up in a tight ball, hoping that your friends will be able to get you out. Tony always said that your big mouth would get you locked up, it turns out he was right.

Across the Divide

TITLE: Across The Divide

CHAPTER NO./ONE SHOT: Chapter Three

AUTHOR: wolfpawn

ORIGINAL IMAGINE: Imagine Loki sneaking out of the palace as a youth to see the city and countryside, while out one day, he accidentally gets in trouble for something, but a young girl deals with the situation, allowing him to be left alone and his true identity be kept secret. She is a poor girl who is only in the city to sell goods with her father, so she does not realise it is Loki, even though she sees his face. They form a friendship as she shows him around the city, and tells him the date she comes to the city every month for a particular market.

RATING: Teen and Up

Ariella stood at the door of her home, she thought at most, the bag was going to contain a piece of silver or two, at most, and a few bronzes, but it was all silver, she looked at them all, there was at least ten, but to her shame, she could not count any higher. She only knew to ten by fluke from listening to people. How could she ever explain that to her father and mother how he ever came to possess them. She thought of how he had acted in front of Fandral, she was embarrassed, certain the young high-born would never want to see her again because of his behaviour.

“Where are you?” She turned around and closed the door, both of her parents glaring at her. “Get your head out of the clouds girl.”

“Sorry, mother.” She looked to the floor.

Truth Or Dare

This is an Avengers crash/crack fic. It is absurd and Loki is here.

“This is an emergency. Everybody report to the living room at once- auth. Tony Stark,” announced JARVIS.

This caused a bit of chaos around the tower. JARVIS repeated the announcement with double the urgency.

Thor burst into the designated room, vanilla icing smeared on his face, brandishing Mjolnir.

Steve followed, sprinting into the room showing clear signs of having hurried into his uniform- his shirt was inside out.

With a poof, Loki teleported beside Tony wearing nothing but a pair of bright green briefs with gold L’s on them, socks and his helmet.

Bruce had just finished Hulking out in his special cell. He hurried in, holding up his recently enlargened pants.

Nat followed Bruce, looking collected and alert.

Last of all, Clint, soaking wet with with shampoo bubbles in his hair and a patterned Iron Man towel around his waist ran in, holding a cluster of arrows he had haphazardly grabbed.

“What’s happening?” he asked, waving about the arrows. “Loki lost his conk again?”

"No,“ said Tony. "But I’m flattered, Legolas.”

“What- oh,” said Clint, looking at his towel and going red.

“Loki- you have personalized boxers?” asked Nat with a snigger.

"May I ask what your ardent interest in and about my boxers is?“ shot Loki, smirking.

“The council comes together tomorrow to vote on the name of the guide star.” You spoke softly, pointing up at the brightest star in the sky, the one to always guide travelers north.

Loki lay on the thick grass beside you, his back pressed against the old oak tree as you rested your head on his lap. “Do they now?” He murmured.

You nodded, “I’m going to suggest Lokabrenna, Loki’s torch.”

Loki raised his eyebrow, shifting to look down at you. You moved your head, meeting his gaze. “You wish to name the most important star in the sky after me?”

You beamed at him, smile as bright as the moon. “Who better than you?”

“Surely Thor, or perhaps my mother, maybe Odin?” Loki offered shrugging. He glowed inwardly, pleased that you thought so highly of him.

“You hide your truths with lies. We can always trust you to be dishonest, the other gods will lie and claim truths but you promise nothing but lies, and thus you are the most truthful. Who better to guide a weary traveler home to their family, or a sailor to their destination?” You snuggled in closer to his chest, inhaling deeply of the leather fabric. Loki laced his fingers through yours, gently stroking them as he thought

“My dishonesty is what makes me honest?”

You nodded, straightening up. Stroking your hand through his hair, you smiled again, “The other gods bluster their way through things, sitting on their claims of goodness. You waste no time with such nonsense, accepting that you are imperfect and show them the truth of their ways, whether they want to hear it or not. I’d say that makes you quite honest. You never get held up in claiming that you’re going to tell the truth, you admit that you lie freely. I appreciate the honesty of your dishonesty. Does that make sense?”

Loki laughed, “Not really, no.” He pulled you in for a gentle kiss, his lips meeting yours softly before slowly pulling away, “but then, many things don’t.”

“Exactly. Why would a god love a simple mortal maiden? Surely there are others more deserving of him.”

“Nothing could be further from the truth.” Loki insisted, pulling you closer to him so you sat on his lap, your back pressed to his chest as he wrapped his arms around your waist.

“And so, my dear god of mischief and lies, you deserve the brightest star in the sky.” The two of you looked up at the inky night sky, glittering with millions upon millions of the lights in question, but none stood out like the north star, none shone as brightly. Only the moon could match its splendor, Loki’s torch. “Your torch will always guide me home.”

“You are my torch, my love.”

You leaned back, head resting in the crook of his neck and smiled. Your fingers traced constellations on his hands as the two of you sat together, enjoying the other’s company into the early hours of the morning.

Kid!Loki Headcanons

Happy Headcanons:

  • Loki liked to play outside as a kid. He loved the nature and the adventures he found in it.
  • He liked to play with the children from the near villages because they were the most humble around the palace and they didn’t treat him like a prince when he had told them to stop calling him ‘prince Loki’. The noble children never stopped treating him like a prince.
  • Sometimes Thor came along with Loki to play with the other children. They met Fandral and Volstagg there.
  • Loki taught them to read and write because some of his friends could not go to school.
  • When Loki showed the first signs of being gifted with magic, Frigga was so blissful, she started teaching him. The bond between them got stronger.
  • Odin was the one who comforted Loki when he felt different.
  • When Loki had found out someone had specific talents he made sure they were not wasted.
  • If one of his friends was sad he showed them his magic tricks. Or made them come with him to either do mischief or to eat some stolen pastries from the kitchens.
  • Loki and Thor were insaparable. Sometimes when one of them was afraid, sad or felt unweel, they slept together in a bed. And Loki practiced his healing spells on him while Thor liked to tell dramatic tales about his ‘adventures’.
  • Thor -being the big brother- was always protective of Loki and was afraid that his little brother could hurt himself when he was being trained in combat.
  • As a young teenager he had a crush on a girl from one of the poorer villages. She was his first kiss, and his mother Frigga approved of her.
  • Odin gave Loki ‘The Talk’ (Thor talked with Loki about it years ago but Odin wanted to make sure Loki knew how babies were conceived). It was embarassing but Loki appreciated it.

“Sad” Headcanons:

  • Before Loki met his friends from the villages he had been a shy and lonely boy and didn’t want to play with the noble children because they were ‘no fun’. They did not like doing mischief. Not like him and occasionaly Thor.
  • His mother forced him to read a book about Asgard’s organic farming after he tricked a guard, turning him into a furious bilgesnipe.
  • The noble children teased/mocked him for being friends with commoners.
  • One of his friends had died from illness. He didn’t leave his room for weeks because he mourned. Not even Thor was let into his chambers. Afterwards he wanted to know more about healing magic.
  • Heartbreak. When Loki had fallen in love and found out they didn’t like him back like that, he felt heartbroken. He was very sensitive on the inside.
  • The older Loki and his friends got the less time they spent in each other’s company because they had their own tasks and work to do.
  • As a young adult he realised to not let people emotionally get to him. He isolated himself from the others and lost more friends. Even thought Thor, the Warrios Three and Lady Sif were there, he still felt lonely.
  • Loki fell in love with Sif, but she did not feel the same. She had a crush on Thor.
  • When Loki felt envious of Thor he manipulated his brother. Afterwards he felt guilty.
  • People started calling him silvertongue. On the outside he seemed proud of his reputation but on the inside he hated it.
  • He had found out he’ll never be King of Asgard and later, when he was alone, he cried himself to sleep because he felt second best.

RATING: Teen and Up

Loki tried and failed to calm himself as he paced his rooms, he had to make Ariella see sense, she could not marry that man. She did not deserve to be pawned off to some old fool that would not care for her. But how could he get her to admit that she did not want it? If she would only say it once in the presence of his father, it would all be stopped. He had to get Ariella and Odin to meet.

He was about to leave his rooms when Frigga entered. “I have somewhere to be mother,” he stated dismissively.

anonymous asked:

What's the difference between Freya and Frigg??

Frigg is the All Mother, wife of Odin, mother of Baldr, weaver of skies, she’s Aesir.. Freyja is the daughter of Njörd, sister to Freyr, goddess of war, magic, and love, ruler of Valkyries and is Vanir!
Some people think Freyja and Frigg are the same because they share so many similar qualities. I personally don’t think so.
