The other day, I was talking to a friend about D Gray Man (because that’s what I do best) and after a little while, it kinda hit me that, if you tell the story as it is, it isn’t a happy story.

I mean, sure we joke about how sad and tragic the story is, and it is true. But yet, if we read the story, we also know there’s a lot of light hearted  moments, really fun parts and overral, always a good feeling to it.

Yet in a way those elements seems a bit absent if you focus on telling the story straight forward with just the events that happen. It seems unreal that there’s actually as much light hearted moments when you hear some of the basics dilema and storylines.

So I was kind of thinking about what was making the light moments work, why, even by being hit by the tragic of the situations, we have such a good feeling reading this manga, why the tragedy doesn’t wear us off.

And in the end it all comes down to the characters who are extremely self aware of the tragedy around them and decided to hold on together still.

The comedy, the good moments, they come from when the characters just focus on each others, to care about one another. In the end, that’s the scene where Lavi, Lenalee,Allen and Chaoji discuss of what they’re going to do when they’re in the Ark that describe it the best. They refuse to give up to the tragedy and they’re going to still laugh about it, still going to care about one another.

And in a way it is so positive and heartwarming. In a way it’s where dgm truly works - without shying away from the drama, it gives us a lot of safe moments in the manga in order to rest, to recover with our characters, and all is due to the bonds they all create together.

It’s always amazing to appreciate.

soooo this is something i’ve been thinking about for a while now, but with the whole recent concerns surrounding tumbl and new owners i’m thinking i really need to find a backup in case things get really bad here (or the whole site gets scrapped)

does anyone know of a good place to go? i mean dA is kind of terrible, and i’d consider it if i had to, and twitter isn’t really a great place to have any kind of gallery of art, but it seems like the second best option for social media in general, and i least you CAN have a conversation with people there

dunno if any of my followers/mutuals know of places or have places where you cross post?

I really love Orange Is The New Black for giving us some really good quality butch representation. Because if I’m being completely honest, before this show came out, I totally drank the Kool-aid given to us from society that butch women were something to look down upon. And I like that TV has opened my eyes to butch women especially since the crapshoot stereotype of butch women is so negative and gross and these women deserve so much more in the world tbh. And I realize now that that negative stereotype was also affecting my own well-being and magnifying my internalized homophobia. And seeing women like that on tv has helped me feel more comfortable in my own skin

Man I really gotta………add Nova and all her stuff to my self insert page since she’s my main self insert rn :///

Lena Hall’s #yitzograms, showing me everything I want in a man since 2014.

Interrupting the pleasantness to say, again… could we please not tag Lin on original posts of bootleg material. He searches his tag to engage with fans, especially fanart and personal messages. A lot of us like having him on here. Putting bootleg material in front of his face when he comes here to talk with fans is an excellent way to make coming here a bad experience for him, one, you know, he might not want to continue.

Not to mention it’s just unnecessarily rude. I know people aren’t used to this in every fandom and a lot of you are new. Lin is an actual personal presence on social media, both including and apart from Hamilton. And I think we’re very lucky to have him. His name in the tags or his handle on twitter is not just a content marker. It’s potentially addressing him. That doesn’t mean you can’t fangirl the fuck out. Tumblr is for fans. It does mean certain things are inappropriate to tag with his full name. Tagging him on bootleg posts is a really crappy way to repay him for everything he’s given and continues to give.

If you have any questions, please check out my #bootlegs tag first.

eta please signal boost if you can

eta welp, there we have it

  • person in the 1960s: the cia controls the media

lightning week day 7 - why i love lightning

Why do I love Lightning? Well, to say the least, I was coming out of a dark period of my life when I first got Final Fantasy XIII. I didn’t know much about the game other than how great the graphics looked at the time. Lightning ended up making a real strong impression on me. In a world where male protagonists still dominate most forms of media, it’s really important to me that Lightning had an entire trilogy to shine as a protagonist. What I admire most about Lightning is her determination to rescue her sister Serah. Even when she was thrown out of the timeline and went up against an actual god, she never backed down. That determination is what inspires me to keep going when I’m having a hard time in real life.

while my tablet was broken i drew a whole lotta stuff (mostly mabels) for that AU i made up where mabel and dipper are native fallsians bewildered by the very mundane happenings around piedmont

just tryin to figure out what these nerds would look like

Let’s all take a moment to appreciate the Re:Creators Sound Track

Sure, the fight songs are appropriately epic. And we all love Layers, with the “Want to find a reason why my friends all died.” But in its subtler moments, I think the music really shines even brighter. Magane’s scene in ep15 I think is a prime example.

A lot of anime, most media really, might set Magane’s home to something evil sounding, creepy and unsettling. It’s the dragon’s den, after all, you should be intimidated. Instead, they use a song that’s upbeat, fun, and laid back.

Rather than leaning full tilt into the mood of the scene, the music balances it out. The setting is designed to invite you in, while Magane’s presence is telling you to get out. The disjointed elements work in harmony to feel unsettling, without possessing that quality individually.

Sorry for the fanboy rant, it just really left an impression on me.

I think today has taught us a lot about how big social media is as a marketing tool.

Like, yeah, it was never in question, but let’s recap:

Stephanie from Yahoo busted the fourth wall off its damn hinges (if you consider media outlets to be on the other side of the fourth wall, which traditionally they are), as did StubHub, via direct interactions with pro-Larry fans as well as explicitly pro-Larry statements.

FYZ is now, in all likelihood, done for. Last I checked, both a paparazzo came forward claiming theft and dresslike-1d put FYZ on blast with a screenshot of an e-mail that destroyed the notion that FYZ is fan-run. Literally, in a single day, FYZ has been put in water so hot it could burn them right off the map.

Lots of news/gossip outlets are embracing a pro-Larry approach (explicitly and non), and there’s huge reason to believe there will be more to come.

This is just stuff that happened today. Two days ago, the concept of this sort of pro-Larry narrative on an official media scale would have been absurd to even consider. It’s been one day, and the narrative–the feeling surrounding Harry and Louis as lovers, or friends, even–has shifted.

One day. Social media. Crazy, right?

“don’t expect celebrities to speak out on every important issue ever”

I don’t, but I do totally expect them to not consistently be a piece of shit. I’m allowed to be pissed off when celebrities say terrible things so stop trying to derail the conversation. I’m not calling them out for something they “said five years ago,” (not that they ever apologized for that thing or have shown any indication that they’ve changed) I’m mad because of what they’re saying NOW.

jimy-kirks  asked:

''#THIS EPISODE WAS SO DUMB LOL'' Isn't every TOS episode a lil dumb lmao. The whole serie is like a fanfiction author who just discovered AU's and it's glorious

i actually love it so much because almost all of the major fanfic tropes were canon in star trek tos!! it makes me feel like fanfics follow the original scifi spirit more than current movies and tv shows do!
