Nephilim Week [TID] Day 6: Favourite Family

The Fairchild family has lived in an array of places over the generations. In the 1800s, they ran the London Institute; Granville was the  first known Fairchild to lead the Institute, and, later, his daughter, Charlotte took over the post, before she ultimately went on to become the first female Consul.

“Do you see that man? That’s Simon Lewis, and he is my boyfriend. So if any of you think about trying to hurt him because he’s a mundie or pursuing him romantically, I will come after you, I will hunt you down, and I will crush you to powder.”

If I’m going to die for you all, the least you could do is remember my name.” - City of Lost Souls.

The Morgenstern family is an old Shadowhunter family. Valentine Morgenstern is the most well-known bearer of the Morgenstern name. The family is said to be Swiss, and their ancestors in 1878 spoke German fluently. Morgenstern’ means ‘morning star.’ It’s a German name, but the family was Swiss.

The Lightwoods are a very old and very powerful family of Shadowhunters. They are members of the Clave, and the living family members currently all reside in the New York Institute. During the 1800s, they lived in London. They are known for their snobbish attitudes and disdain towards Downworlders and mundanes, though over time, they have become more tolerant of Downworlders. The members of the family often have Hebrew or biblical names.

“…They seemed to have been hand-wrought, their lines curving in to the circle around the symbol of the Council—four Cs in a square, standing for Council, Covenant, Clave, and Consul. The curvature of each C held a symbol of one of the branches of Downworlders. A crescent moon for the wolves, a spell book for the warlocks, an elf arrow for the Fair Folk, and for the vampires, a star”

Nephilim Institutes | New York (2007).

The New York Institute is currently ran by the Lightwood family. It is where they provide protection to Shadowhunters, and, in some cases, mundanes and Downworlders, in need of their help. Hodge Starkweather; was exiled here because of his allegiance to the Circle, for surrendering without leaving first. The Institute is said to look like an old gothic cathedral. As it is covered by a glamour, mundanes see the church abandoned and almost in ruins because of it. The interior is enormous, with several corridors and hallways adorned with arches. The nave is well kept with witchlight and tapers in cadelabras as its main source of light.

Nephilim Week [TMI] Day 4: Favourite Quote

“Clary was born special. Simon here had specialness thrust upon him. He adapted. Because the world isn’t divided into the special and the ordinary. Everyone has the potential to be extraordinary. As long as you have a soul and free will, you can be anything, do anything, choose anything. Simon should get to choose”

“If you ever meet the man who could take advantage of Isabelle, you’ll have to let me know. I’d like to shake his hand. Or run away from him very fast, I’m not sure which.”
