more edits to come for the rest of the characters

At the Edge of the Ocean (Olicity AU fic Part 1)

Hey guys, I’d been toying for weeks with the idea of doing a unique Olicity AU one-shot. I very rarely write fics with mystical elements but once this idea popped into my head, I couldn’t get it out. I also blame @agentsassydirewolf for letting me rant about it and adding fuel to the fire in my creative brain! Thank you, and I hate you (just kidding…kinda sorta)! ;)

Anyway, I’ve always loved mermaids. They are by far my favorite mythical creature. I recently re-watched Splash (a big, glorious mistake) and felt compelled to finally bring my Olicity mermaid AU obsession to life. This was originally going to be a one-shot but while writing yesterday, I realized there was too much to cram into a single post. I also wanted to have this posted in time for Valentine’s Day, so I’m splitting it up into two parts (I’m still working on the second one right now).

I haven’t yet decided if this might turn into a short, mutli-chapter ficlet. But let me know if you guys want to read more, and I might add it to my list of future fics to work on. I’m not sure how the visual aspects and edits will format on AO3, so I’m posting strictly to Tumblr for now.

Thanks in advance for reading, everyone, and Happy Valentine’s Day!

Pairing: Oliver Queen and Felicity Smoak

Rating: T

Summary: AU. Oliver almost drowns when the Queen’s Gambit sinks and is saved by a mysterious creature. When he learns that his savior is actually a beautiful mermaid named Felicity, Oliver can’t decided if he’s more shocked by her existence or the fact that he feels such a strong connection to her. Coming from two different worlds, Oliver and Felicity must decided if their love is true and what they’re willing to sacrifice to make it work.

Disclaimer: I don’t own Arrow or any of its characters. Except for the Olicity edits, the rest of the images and gifs aren’t mine.

A friendly arm wrestling match!

During last game our characters took it easy and hung out with Dimitri (npc) and a couple of his tiefling friends, Petra and Nikolai (also npc).

I figure Petra usually wears more armour, but took some off after coming in to rest (in reality I just wanted to show off her buff arms!).

Gal didn’t fare well with the arm wrestling, by the way (my rolls were so baaaaad).

Skulduggery Pleasant Series : Tipstaff

He grows up in the camp his father’s regiment is posted in, where children run barefoot through the mud and the fighting seems like a fever dream.

His mother heals men who are occasionally stretchered in, bleeding, screaming. His father disappears into the shadows, blending in with mortals and Mevolent’s men alike, feeding false information to them, and bringing out intel that changes missions. Tipstaff deciphers them carefully, these pieces of paper, written in code, these messages in dead leaves, carved on small stones.

He’s good at it- The senior officers notice his skills, give him the task of deciphering future messages from spies who cannot make it back at any given time. And, for a while, everything is fine.

His father comes home once a while. His mother smiles as her patients recover.

And then his older sister follows the mages sent with the Dead Men to Denmark.

He waits. He waits for their intel, their messages. Deciphers until his fingers hurt, and when the message comes through that only a handful of mages survived the corpse attack, he does not know what to do.

He doesn’t see her again. One of the survivors swears his sister came with them into the boat, that she landed onshore safely with them. He doesn’t see her, and that’s fine.

He’s still waiting, sifting through the latest reports for the Elders, setting up protocols, making sure everything runs smoothly. Waiting for more messages to come in, so he can stop reading between the lines and finally, finally rest.

anonymous asked:

If the boys would write fanfictions with Gardienne, how would them be?

Sorry this took so long, Anon! I actually meant to post this on friday, but my computer’s been acting up. So apologies in advance if I disappear for a month again.

Anyway, I wasn’t sure if you meant what the fanfictions would be like, or what the boys would be like writing fanfictions, so I tried to incorporate a little of both in these headcanons. If you’re not happy with that, please let me know and I’ll rewrite them! ^^

Anyway, I hope you enjoy these!

Valkyon:

  • Ignoring the fact Valkyon isn’t even a fan of literature, he’s no writer and his handwriting is only just about legible, so when you suggest writing fanfictions together, he’s very reluctant to do so.
  • But he likes to see you happy so he tries writing with you, though his contributions are limited to advice about fight scenes and battle conditions.
  • Val’s not really interested in the fanfic itself and so doesn’t really have a preference for what you write, but he has a keen interest in rags-to-riches stories, though he’s reluctant to admit it.

Nevra:

  • Like Val, Nevra isn’t a big fan of books, both reading and writing them, but doesn’t mind the idea of spending more time with you, and is always happy to join you.
  • He only helps with editing and proofreading though, since he figures you’re more suited for the rest of the writing shtick.
  • Though he usually keeps out of your creative process, Nevra loves mystery/thriller and can’t stop himself from adding his two cents to the story whenever you decide to writer for that genre.

Ezarel:

  • Is the only one of the boys who’s interested in the idea off the bat, though he teases you mercilessly for being such a dedicated fan.
  • He’s not really involved in the characters or their backstories, but he’s damned good when it comes writing plot and setting the mood in a fic.
  • Ez always tries to make sure the fanfic is sci-fi, because in his eyes nothing is more interesting than the great void of space, and is always a bit pouty when it’s not.
At the Edge of the Ocean: Part 2 (Olicity AU)

Hello, lovely readers! Thank you all for your comments, faves, and reblogs for At the Edge of the Ocean Part 1. The enthusiasm for this AU Olicity concept has been really awesome. It’s so fun for me, because I get to indulge in both my love for Olicity and mermaids!

I also have a mini announcement. While I was writing this and doing edits, I realized that there is still a lot of story left to tell. It’d be way too much to cram it all in this post. So, I’ve decided that this fic will have to be extended. I’m thinking it’ll be about four parts total to really do it justice.

I’m excited to finally share Part 2 with you all. It features new edits, which I’ll admit were a blast to make. Feel free to comment and let me know what you think. Enjoy!

Rating: T (but will progress to Mature)

Part 2

A shiver wracked Oliver’s body, rippling through his muscles like a cresting wave and causing him to tremble in its wake. It could’ve been the cool night air or the surf breaking against him on the beach. But the truth was in the beautiful blonde creature currently lying beneath him and kissing him senseless.

Felicity was wrapped as tightly around him as possible, and he held her back just as fiercely. They laid half in the ocean and half in the sand. Oliver had lost track of time, nothing but Felicity filling his senses. She felt soft and warm in his arms despite the coldness of the water. Being submerged for so long, Oliver would’ve been shivering far sooner without her otherwise.

“Oliver,” she sighed against his lips.

“ I’ve been absolutely hating the storytelling in Guild Wars 2 ever since HoT released. With Heart Of Thorns, the story made me so angry that I had to stop playing for a while because of the disrespectful deaths of Eir and Trahearne and the horrible deus ex machina that lead to Mordremoth dying way more quickly than he should have. And in Season 3, not only did I find the story boring, but the ex machinas kept coming and you can’t go 5 seconds without a character saying an unfunny quip in an attempt to be sassy. If this is the kind of writing that we’re going to get in Path Of Fire, then the rest of the expansion better be worth it.“

Fallout 4 thoughts:

Deacon is the only reason I don’t take out the Railroad in my games. The rest of the bunch are kind of just a *shrug* for me. I’m afraid if I ever got to know X6-88 I wouldn’t be able to take out the Institute either. I wish the Minutemen had more named characters. Like quests where you gain some awesome personalities to your cause. “Hi, Preston, hi Ronnie, hi settlers dressed up like Minutemen… That’s it, there’s no one else.” I wish I could investigate news stories with Piper and have relevant editions of Public Occurrences come out after the completion of each one. MacCready’s son needs to come to the Commonwealth, because the other option is MacCready leaving and I don’t like that one. Danse needs his storyline to be resolved for real! I can’t stress this enough. Bethesda, fix this, please! I need to be able to say nice things to my companions too. Not just a one way thing where I thank them for stroking my ego at the end. An option for me to save everyone. Get them all to come to the table. Because I think the Institute could be more like Vault 81; I think the Brotherhood could NOT kill friendly super mutants, synths, and ghouls; I think the RR could forgive and care more about other aspects of the commonwealth as well as synths.

Whirl in the last panel was originally done a little differently. I liked the emotion it conveyed. Wanted to make Whirl come across ‘sad’ and defeated [not just by the physical fight, but also by the revelation of what Megatron had told him].

Ah well! :I

I wish I had more to share! There were lots and lots of edits done to this issue on my end but the rest were all character color scheme tweaks kinda stuff [and picking out everybody in the crowd on that double paged spread. i originally block colored and wanted to leave it up to you guys to figure out who’s who, like the old Marvel days, cuz who honestly wants to color all of that xD ] that isnt super significant.

The Deliberate CARYL Zone

“It was shot the way it was shot and it was edited the way it was edited and that’s always DELIBERATE.
I spend a lot of time on those cuts, so take that as you will.”

-Scott Gimple for TV Line

If everything on screen has a purpose and if everything is indeed DELIBERATELY shown and DELIBERATELY edited the way it appears ON-SCREEN (the only place it matters) for a reason that is meant to be REVEALED later on….
Well then that means that Gimple had a specific reason for making sure that certain CARYL centric scenes stood out and that they deliberately showcased the EMOTIONAL undercurrent of that relationship.

CARYL scenes have ALWAYS been as Norman Reedus would say “deeper than that” because they always centred on highlighting the compatibility and unconditionality of the Carol and Daryl bond.
Each CARYL moment reveals more and more complexity and seeing how 6 seasons later everyone is still waiting for them to become even “MORE”, I’d have to say that however subtle some might think CARYL is, they are consistently progressing further and further.

Three showrunners chose to DELIBERATELY highlight the emotional potential and chemistry between Carol and Daryl.
Darabont, Mazzara and now Gimple continuously enhanced CARYL scenes and deliberately chose to shoot the scenes and edit the cuts, in a way that showcased the connection and hinted that there was a lot more emotion brimming under the surface.
Emotion that will eventually explode on screen and mean that much more once it does.

Just Look at what Gimple did…

Gimple wanted the CARYL reunion in “No Sanctuary” to be shot separately from the others and even insisted that it be the only one that transpires in silence, just so the focus could be on the FEELING behind the relationship…
Through editing Gimple made sure that the emotion was fully captured by having the camera linger on the facial expressions of not just Carol and Daryl when they first caught sight of one another but the reactions of the others watching them as well….

To signify its importance even more that kind of emotional response was not deemed important enough to focus on in any of the other reunions at all.

Gimple wanted us to see Daryl being overwhelmed by emotion, that can only be defined as LOVE, the very moment he realized that HIS Carol was back.

Gimple paired up Carol and Daryl together for a completely plot-irrelevant episode - “Consumed” was not necessary for the overall story and seeing how it didnt lead to either of their demise, we can conclude that it’s purpose wasn’t centred on character build-up to prepare for death but something else - something bigger!
The episode was full of emotionally poignant moments of reflection, re-connection and depth seldom seen on TWD.
Even the so-called “action” moments had a very strong and apparently deliberate emotional purpose. The editing room cut the scenes to showcase just how much and how deeply Carol affected Daryl and vice versa.

Take a look;

In “Coda” at Grady, TWD lost Beth and in her death we once again saw Gimple’s DELIBERATE EDITTING ways.

When Dawn shoots Beth and Daryl shoots her in retaliation, the facial expressions of several group members are individually shown to communicate the shock and devastation of the situation…
Carol and Daryl are shown together - grieving, crying, reacting but doing it ALL together.
For an even bigger emotional punch Gimple had Carol’s hand on Daryl’s shoulder be the thing that snapped Daryl back into reality, got him to put his gun down and stopped what could have been an even deadlier shootout.

In “Them” Gimple once again showcased the Carol effect on Daryl’s emotional balance.

In the midst of his grief and having seen Daryl scoffing away everyone else, the audience is given a scene where Carol comforts Daryl emotionally and physically through a gentle caress and a simple forehead kiss.
The moment is captured by specifically focusing on Daryl’s facial expression as he reacts to what CAROL says and does to HIM - we are meant to notice the effect HER presence has on Daryl.

His body language eases off the tension as soon as her hands starts to caress his face as she goes forward to kiss his forehead - he closes his eyes and leans into her touch without hesitation or holding back and it’s exactly the way that scene is set up that actually infers on the viewer that Daryl not just trusts Carol but that she is the only one that Daryl would allow to touch him like that.

In “Thank You” the camera zeroes in on Daryl’s face while he wrestles with the crossroads he’s faced with, both after he sees the Alexandria “New Start” sign and after Rick once again compels him to turn back around after he had already disobeyed his order.
The scenes are again deliberately edited in a way that highlights the emotional struggle Daryl goes through by lingering on his face, which was instigated by the the SIGN the camera also lingers on - Alexandria “New Start”.

Patrick Fischler (Mad Men) will recur on Season 4 of the ABC drama as a peddler, TVLine has learned.

Fischler’s character comes across as well-intentioned but is actually a quick-witted, arrogant man with reckless impulses. He will appear in both the fairytale land and Storybrooke.

(EDIT) Deadline added a bit more info: the peddler’s name will be Gorin, as well as stating his character is “crucial to the show’s mythology”.
