“[My fiancée] had been putting her makeup on for dinner and now she’s bawling her eyes out, and I’m lying there in shock,” Prust said. “I had 100 text messages on my phone within 10 minutes. It was very overwhelming.
"I had no clue. I know on July 1 there’s a lot of action and I’m going into the last year of my contract,” he said. “But after the playoffs I had, I didn’t think there was any way they’d trade me.
"Vancouver is going to be great, I’ve always enjoyed the city,” Prust said. “I played against the Canucks a lot when I was with Calgary. The Vancouver organization is great and I’ve always liked playing in that building. I’m very blessed with the teams I’ve been fortunate enough to play for. I’ve played with some great teams and some great organizations, and Vancouver now is another one. I’m really excited.”
He will play Montreal on Oct. 27 in Vancouver, and again on Nov. 16 at Bell Centre.
