Naomi Campbell @ the Chanel Spring/Summer 1992 Haute Couture show, infamously titled, “Le Mode Destroy” in which house designer, Karl Lagerfeld famously Ripped, Tore, Shredded and altogether “Destroyed” the well-known Chanel Codes and Icons. Here, Naomi wears a Plastic Beaded and Multicolour Sequined “Plaid Tweed” Chanel “Suit” Evening Jacket over bare breasts and numerous necklaces. Worn with Dark Brown Leather Pants and a Feather Headpiece created by Phillip Treacy. Jacket is of Satin (Gandini) and embroidered by the Historic Sequin House of Montex in Pink, White, Aqua and Black Sequins with oversized Plastic novelty beads as the traditional Chanel jacket “Braid” trim!
This has always been and continues to be perhaps my favorite Chanel Haute Couture collection of all time!
It was just so irreverent and ballsy and innovative! Karl never fails to surprise me and this was perhaps one of his most surprising collections! In the 90’s Karl produced some Wacky and Zany Chanel collections, some that inspires Ire as much as Desire… This was the Zenith of that Arch, Subversive spirit that Karl infused Chanel with in the early years… One must also realize… With this collection, he still had not been at Chanel for a decade yet… That would come in 1993… So in the bare 9 years at this time he was at the house, he had irrevocably changed the dialogue of what Chanel meant and was to what it would become and be now, the most powerful and influential fashion house on the planet!
Shown in Paris, France. Jan. 1992. Exact date and venue unknown.
