monterrey pop festival 1967

A Happy Birthday to the man and the legend, Mr. Jimi Hendrix.

Summer of Love

The Monterrey Pop Festival opened on this day in 1967, launching the Summer of Love in the San Francisco Bay area. One of the important organs of hippie culture in San Francisco was The San Francisco Oracle, an underground paper that preceded now more famous followers like Rolling Stone. Several authors with Harvard ties wrote in the Oracle, including Timothy Leary and Richard Alpert (later Ram Dass), both from the (in)famous Harvard Center for Research in Personality.
