monte carlo ball

Princess Grace and Gina Lollobrigida eating ice cream cones at The Centennial Ball ! Princess Grace wearing her white gloves, as always….

“So devoted are the Italians to this delicacy emblems of ice cream, gelati or sorbetti are found on any Roman street. Legend has it that Emperor Nero used to send runner slaves to the mountain to collect snow and hurry it back, flavour it with fruit juice, and serve him his favourite treat.”
La Dolce Vita

The Monagasques also love ice cream or gelato…so much so it was served at The Centennial Ball aka known as Ball of the Second Empire, at the Opera of Monte Carlo. June 10 1966

Happy Birthday, Princess Grace ! ~ November 12, 1929

“The Princess was not just pretty, she was beautiful. But she never flaunted that beauty. It was a perfect kind of beauty and maybe that was one of the things that made her so special. Because she was so perfectly beautiful and yet at the same time so simple in her own way, other women were never jealous of her.”Louisette Levy-Soussan, Grace’s secretary

White orchids were flowers of choice when Grace Kelly wore this stunning DIOR white strapless gown to two formal occasions in 1955 and then to her engagement celebration in Jan 1956, at the Monte-Carlo ( Imperial Ball ) in NYC at the Waldorf Astoria.

A princess in the making ! A stunning Grace Kelly at the Monte-Carlo Ball. It seemed as if she purchased the gown just for this special occasion as it was so “princess like ” ! However this is third appearance of this gown unbeknownst to most !This is one gown that has not (as yet) made the Grace Kelly exhibit tour…such a shame …as it is a work of art !

This was the “debut” of the gown….a dinner given in honor of Grace Kelly at the Drake Hotel in Philadelphia (Grace Kelly’s hometown) on June 6, 1955.The awards were given by the Junior Chamber of Commerce in Philadelphia.

Second appearance of the gown….dancing at The Breakers Ball in Newport R.I., 12 August, 1955
