The Cartoon Art Museum will host artist Mark Thompson (Monstark) on Saturday, July 25th, 2015 from 1pm to 3pm as part of its ongoing Cartoonist-in-Residence program. Visitors will be given the chance to talk to Mark, and to view and discuss his work. This event is free and open to the public. See our Facebook event page at

Mark Thompson is the Bay Area-based artist, illustrator, and musician behind Monstark Studios. Thompson’s painting and illustration draws inspiration from the brutish natural world, designing gnarled forests as hiding spots for haunting, hybrid beasts. He explores the raw creative power of the nature through creating zines, comics, and music. His work can be found at

About the Cartoonist in Residence Program:
The Cartoon Art Museum regularly hosts professional cartoonists in its galleries as part of its Cartoonist-in-Residence program. Museum patrons see cartoonists at work on their latest projects and learn everything you ever wanted to know about cartoonists – but were afraid to ask.  Past featured Cartoonists-in-Residence include Paul Madonna (All Over Coffee), Keith Knight (K Chronicles, (th)ink), Paige Braddock (Jane’s World), Roman Muradov (The New Yorker) and Jimmy Gownley (Amelia Rules) among many others.

Bay area people! Next weekend is San Francisco Comic Con and I found out nearly last minute that I’ll have a booth there. I’ll have all of this, plus more shirts, prints, framed pieces and (possibly) masks. If you’re coming, drop by and say hi!
