Can you recommend any queer kids picture books? My cousin just had her baby and while she is going to be so spoilt by her two gay aunts I still want her seeing the LGBTQ community in the books that are read to her.

Certainly can!

Robin’s Nest: Part 1

Summary: The Robins as Bruce and Batmom’s biological kids.

Words: 1252

AN: Thank you to my wonderful new team of Beta’s who edited this and are working diligently on everything else.

Despite getting married at a very young age, you never had a deep desire for a big family. In fact, you’re not even sure you want children. You’re fairly certain that parenting books caution against raising children in a home where crime fighting is more of the family business than running Wayne Enterprises. You spend a lot of late nights monitoring the computer in the Batcave while Bruce fights crime.

When you’re not fighting crime you and Bruce tend to either be working or at some sort of function. You know Bruce wants a child someday, but for the moment you’re both content with your lives. In fact, the only one who isn’t is Alfred. He’s worse than the press when it comes to babies.

He hints about them all the time, usually when he has you alone in the Batcave. On the flip side, he tends to corner Bruce in his office.

You’ve been married three years when Bruce comes home early from a business trip. You haven’t taken your birth control in a while, and both you and Bruce are feeling a bit forgetful when you fall into bed that night. You honestly don’t think of it again, until Mother Nature skips you two months in a row.

You’ve always been regular, so you have a pretty good feeling as to what is going on, but you want to make sure. You know it’ll be nearly impossible to go buy the pregnancy test yourself without being noticed, so you’re forced to ask Alfred to pick one up when he goes to the store that day.

He agrees, with this huge smile on his face, and you’re almost certain that he actually skips to the car. When Bruce asks you what’s going on, you tell him. Plus, you figure it’s not a particularly good idea to keep a possible father out of the loop.

“Remember that night, two months ago, when you came home early from that trip?” You ask.

“Yes.”

“We didn’t use any protection.”

“You’re …”

“Possibly. Alfred is picking up a test at the store.”

Bruce just nods, “That explains the skipping.”

You just nod. You wait together in the den, in complete silence. The humming is the first thing that alerts you to Alfred’s return. You go to meet him together. He has three different bags, all filled with pregnancy tests. You ask about groceries, and he simply tells you that he’ll go back out for those later. When you question him about the twenty different pregnancy tests, he says he wants to make absolutely sure.

You’re suddenly really glad that you drank all that water today, and that it’s Saturday. You go through all twenty tests, and the three of you all wait together. When the timer goes off, it’s Bruce who goes into check the tests. He’s already memorized all the different symbols for positive and negative.

He comes out five minutes later looking a bit pale. “Positive, all twenty are positive.”

Your stomach heaves at the weight of that statement as Alfred cheers. Both you and Bruce are scared out of your minds over the next several weeks. You both devour pregnancy books in anticipation of your first prenatal appointment.

You’re still worried out of your mind at the idea of being responsible for another life, but then you hear the heartbeat and every worry you have melts away. One look at Bruce tells you that he’s feeling the exact same amazement as you are.

You have to deal with morning sickness for several months, and you’re oh-so-grateful when it finally goes away. Of course, cravings set in the next day, and Bruce seems to kind of regret living so far from town when he’s forced to go constantly into town for your latest cravings.

Bruce is all about baby-proofing, but he doesn’t hire a company to do it—he does it himself. There’s covers on all the outlets, locks on cabinets, and soft things on the corners of all the antique coffee tables. You think it’s very sweet.

You go into labor at work, in the middle of a board meeting. Your water breaks while you’re giving your presentation. Bruce is at your side in thirty seconds flat, and then you’re surrounded by men, being ushered towards a company car. You’re rushed to the hospital where Gotham PD is attempting to keep photographers back. You’re whisked into a plush, private room. Fifteen hours later, you give birth to a little boy. He favors Bruce, but at the same time he’s his own person. Although he does have your eyes.

Running a finger down the side of his cheek, you marvel at the softness of his skin, and the way his mouth opens and closes. You hand him over to Bruce, who holds him with a little bit of hesitancy, but he’s supporting the head and doing everything lamaze classes taught him. As the baby falls asleep in his arms he looks at you with all of this love, wonder and amazement and says, “Thank you for making me a daddy.”

You just smile and say, “Thank you for making me a mommy.”

You’re kept in the hospital for three days. They want to make sure the new prince of Gotham and his mother are one hundred percent okay before they let you go home. Bruce sleeps in one of those uncomfortable hospital chair, refusing to leave your side. It takes you and Bruce about a day to decide on a name. Finally, you decided on Richard Thomas Wayne, after Bruce’s grandfather and father. “Dick” for short.

The day you take Dick home, Bruce is the one to carry him. He’s locked safely in his carry car seat, and you make sure a blanket is fully covering him, protecting your baby from the vultures outside.

You’re ready to hiss when you find out that a full police squad is already out there attempting to keep the photographers back and that you actually have to wait for more men before going out.

You keep your back straight as Commissioner Gordon personally escorts you to the car. You get in first, accepting the carrier from Bruce and locking it into place, before Bruce gets in. The next several nights are rather busy. Bruce has to go out as Batman to keep people from speculating. He typically waits until Dick is asleep before going and is usually back as you’re finishing his feeding.

The next several months are filled with sleepless nights and spit-up. When Richard is four months old, you set up a bassinet in the Batcave so that you can go back to monitoring the computer. Bruce slowly gets back into the groove of batman but is typically home a lot earlier than before. At six months, Richard is sleeping through the night without any problems, but you and Bruce still like watching him sleep for a bit before going to bed yourselves.

One night as you’re watching him sleep, with Bruce’s arms wrapped around you, you admit it, “I love being a mom.”

Bruce just smiles and kisses you before saying, “I love being a dad.” Together, you both smile and go back to watching your son sleep.

I work at a daycare and while they're not traditional "customers" some of the parents drive me absolutely crazy! Like, the parents who hold their crying kids at drop off for like 10 minutes? Listen, your kid will still be crying when you put them down to leave and that's 10 minutes I had to dedicate to you and your kid and not the 17 other children in the room. Let them cry. I will take care of them. That's my JOB.

Rip off the band aid! My little guy started school this year and he clung to me like I was trying to throw him into boiling water. I put him down on the school bus and he started crying. Thankfully the bus driver was awesomely prepared. He gave my son a toy school bus. The next day my son ran up the steps and yelled “BYE MOMMY!” without even giving me a kiss. lol The first day is hard, but it’ll only be harder if you just stand there prolonging the kid’s fear. Those trained to deal with kids, like you, know what they’re doing. -Abby

Allison Martin-Stilinski x Lydia x Stiles

“Mommy get up I’m ready for my hair to be tied up.” The sweet voice sang sharply from the other side of the door.

“Why’s she up so early.” Stiles groaned and rolled over, sliding his arm around Lydia’s waist.

“Because you promised her that the first day of the holidays she could be your super junior deputy, also she’s six, she has no accurate concept of time.” Lydia sighed and they both pretended to be asleep as the door slowly creaked open.

“Mommy?” The little whispered came with several gentle taps on Lydia’s arm before the girl rounded the bed and frowned. “DADDY!” This cry was followed by a belly flop onto Stiles who grunted and quickly caught the girl before she could topple off the bed.

Blue

I did no research to how this process goes, so I apologize for anything wrong. Anyway, here’s a random, late night one shot:)

Sofia took her mother’s hand when the doors to Grey Sloan Memorial hospital slid open.

“I don’t want to go to daycare.” she whined.

Arizona was already running late to her appointment. She swore she could hear each tick and toc from the watch on her wrist, the tiny hand held in hers tightening. “Sweetie, I don’t have time to argue with you-”

She looked down and saw the pout on her daughter’s face; it resembled Callie’s so much, it caused her heart to tug and twist and give. “Okay. But you have to promise me one thing.”

 Sofia beamed and nodded.

“You have to be on your best behavior and not touch anything. You’re only gonna be with me until mama’s shift is over.”

 “Okay, mommy.”

The two made their way to the higher floor and Sofia couldn’t help but wiggle in place. She was so excited that she got to explore the hospital with her mom. She remembered doing it all the time when she was younger, but as her mom’s got more busy with work, especially Arizona going back and forth between peds and fetal surgery, Sofia found herself in daycare more often than not.

“Is mama gonna help fix your leg?” Sofia asked when they stepped off of the elevator.

The blonde dug into her purse and pulled out her cell phone to check a few things and send a text before answering her daughter’s question. “Mama fixes bones. This doctor is going to help me get a new prosthetic.”

“Like when you had to get one when I was little because of Miss Stephanie.” Sofia deadpanned.

Arizona mentally cringed at the memory, highly aware that the only reason Sofia remembered was because Callie brought up the accident on more than one occasion. So with lightly clenched teeth, Arizona muttered, “Yep. Just like that.”

The two entered the room; pieces of metal, silicone and other material limbs spread about the large area. Arizona was a little more hesitant this time around. Her old prosthetist had moved to a different location, so she had to let someone new examine her, learn what she liked and didn’t like.

Taking off her shoes and her slacks, Arizona composed herself, already knowing how this ordeal was going to go. “Stay by me and remember-”

“Don’t touch anything, I know, mommy.” Sofia hopped up on the stool next to her mother and the two awaited for the doctor to come into the room.

It was barely a minute later when a woman came into the room, a stack of folders in her hand and frazzled look on her face. “Good morning, Miss-” the woman used one hand to adjust her glasses and the other to fumble for the file she needed most. “I-I mean Dr. Robbins.” she looked up, green eyes under thick glasses glimmering with a smile.

The woman dropped the pile of files to the side, straightened her pencil skirt and quickly read of Arizona’s file. “Well, Dr. Robbins, it seems you’re in here for a routine fitting for a new prosthetic.”

 “Yes.”

“Dr. Vitti.” The woman took a step forward and shook Arizona’s hand, just then noticing the tiny human sitting next to her. “And who is this?”

Sofia held out her hand with a dimpled smile. “I’m Sofia Robbin Sloan Torres.”

“Oh, well it’s nice to meet you Sofia. Is this your mommy?”

 “Mhmm!”

“Okay, well, I’ll try to make this as short as possible!”

The new prosthetist asked her a few questions, but one of them caught Sofia’s attention.

 “Blue!”

Arizona narrowed her eyes. “Sofia…” she chastised.

“Can it be blue? Or some of it? Can my mommy’s new leg be blue? Please!”

 Dr. Vitti grinned. “Arizona?”

The blonde chewed the inside of her cheek. “Okay. Just a little bit, though.” she looked at her daughter and, seeing the beaming smile on her face, knew it was the right choice.

“Blue is the best color. It’s my favorite color. And I love unicorns. And mermaids. Oh! Mommy, can you get a unicorn on your leg, too?”

“Well if your mom really wants-”

Arizona held up her hands. “Blue is fine.”

“Hey,” Callie smiled when her wife finally came home. She placed her medical journal down, eyes never leaving her wife as she got ready for bed. “Sofia told me all about your new leg. I didn’t know unicorns were in season.” she laughed.

With a roll of her eyes, Arizona scoffed. “Ha ha, Calliope.”

When they were both under the covers and the lights were off, Callie took Arizona into her arms and kissed her forehead gently. “How are you doing?”

She knew appointments like this sometimes put Arizona into a bad funk, but each year it got better and better. “It was okay. It helped that Sofia was there. She made it,” Arizona smiled. “She made it fun. Unicorns and all. She really wanted it it to be blue.” she turned in Callie’s arms and gave her a chaste kiss on the lips. “I love you.”

“I love you, too.” Another kiss.

“Did she ever tell you why her favorite color was blue?” Callie asked.

 Arizona shook her head.

“She came up to me one day and said, ‘Mommy has the prettiest eyes. I think it’s my favorite color. Yeah, blue. I love blue.’ It was so cute.” she chuckled.

Arizona was speechless, never hearing such a simple yet heart warming explanation.

“She is right. You have the most beautiful eyes, Arizona.” Callie said seriously.

It was dark, so Callie couldn’t see the blush that now spread across Arizona’s cheeks and neck. “You want to know what my favorite color is?” Arizona asked now looking deep into Callie’s eyes.

 “What?”

“Green. Like the girl at the coffee cart’s eyes. Wow-”

Callie swatted Arizona away and laughed. “Shut up.”

Their bodies entangled together within seconds, smiles placed on both of their faces.

“I love you so very much.”

Clint made a face, trying to mute out his surroundings. Just focus on the game.

“I will play with you all the time.”

Focus on the game, Barton. The Earth won’t save itself from aliens, you know.

“You will be papa’s beloved little person in the whole world.”

“God!” okay, he couldn’t last any longer. The annoying cooing was beyond creepy. He turned his face to glare at the couple on the couch. “How can you allow him to talk to your dick like that?!”
