mold poisoning

Mold Poisoning

For those of you who don’t know, I became very ill when I was teaching band at a K-12 school. One and a half years of suffering later, I was diagnosed with CFS and Fibromyalgia and resigned my position at the school.

Over a year later, I was informed that the woman who took my job was also very sick. Four other teachers working in that part of the school became ill, and an investigation found a fair amount of black mold in the classroom that I taught in, and more in my old office.

I wonder how many of our illnesses are unknowingly triggered by mold exposure… Does anyone else think mold was their trigger? I’m very curious. I also don’t think many–if any–doctors look into this when we come in with unexplainable symptoms.

What do you all think?

Hello! What do we know about poison in the Star Wars universe, other than that it exists? Any info on specific types? Wookieepedia is sparse on this.

There are several known types, but some only work on specific species. There are also some substances that are not poisons but can be used as such (some coolants and fuels are toxic to near-humans, many common foodstuffs are toxic to one species or another). I’ve picked some more common substances that could be/are used as poisons and organized them by type.

Venoms: Worrt venom, krayt dragon venom (used as a poison in powder form), chuba poison (causes strokes), Kodashi viper venom (found only on Dathomir; there are no known instances of it being harvested from the snakes), rock wart sting juice (used in powdered form), Quesh venom, Dozoisian Snark Venom (lethal to humans, used by mixing with liquids).

Biotoxins: Irksh poison (used by the Yuuzhan Vong), Sith poison (not lethal, but used to make the victim unable to resist the dark side of the Force), mycotoxin (made from cerulean slime mold).

Actual real poisons: Synox (colourless, odourless and tasteless), the unknown poison used in the assassination of Onaconda Farr, dioxis (the gas Nute Gunray used in TPM to try to kill Obi-Wan and Qui-Gon), KillTab (a method of execution), teccitin (used by the Empire before 0 BBY), toxical (extremely deadly and fast-acting), malkite themfar (a neurotoxin used by bounty hunters), suicide pills.

Things that aren’t really poisons: Cyanoxis D-587 (intended to kill conduit worms), Cyclone (intended as a stimulant, used during the Cold War), insecticides (intended for pests, deadly to insectoid species), silicartha (used on Tatooine to kill small pests), hydrogen cyanide (a gas that happens to be fatal to humanoids), coolants.

Keep in mind that some of these are only (as far as we know) used in specific eras or by specific people/groups. Feel free to ask for more information about a specific substance or type of substance, especially if you need a poison to act against a non-humanoid being.

I hope one of these works!

Time for Tonics!

What’s this that I’ve got, dear readers?

No, it’s not whiskey! Nor rum, nor apple juice, nor lemonade. It’s a tonic; a licorice root tonic, to be exact.

Tonics are a great way of storing the nutrients of herbs over an extended period of time. They can be used for magick or mundane purposes, and last a lot longer than fresh herbs do.

Why did I choose licorice root? Well, for those of you who may have forgotten, I’m a singer. Licorice root is great for keeping the throat healthy and also for clearing up colds. Plus, I adorethe taste.

How would you go about making one of these?

  1. Choose your herbs. Take about ½ to 1 cup of the herb and place it in a jar, bowl, or pot. (You can do a tonic of just one herb, or add a couple in together if you wish. Do some research on which herbs contain which vitamins, etc. Want a cold-buster? Ginger tonics are your best choice)
  2. Bring 1 quart of water (or 950 mL/9.5L) to a boil.
  3. Pour the water directly over the herbs. If you’re doing this in a pot, you can bring the herbs to a boil with the water already added. Just make sure to watch that it doesn’t boil over and TURN OFF the stove afterwards.
  4. After that, let the herbs simmer. Cover it with a lid, plate, whatever you’d got on hand, to keep the heat in. Let it rest for at least an hour, but you could even leave your herbs overnight depending on how strong you want them (see the extra notes below for more info on which herbs need more time to steep).
  5. After they’re done sitting, you can either strain the water from the herbs or leave them in. I tried to strain, but alas, I missed a few pieces of root.
  6. LABEL THE JAR with the herb and the date, and then store in a cool place – preferably a fridge. They’ll last for at least a few months so long as they’re stored correctly. Some may last for years if you’ve made them right, and the containers are SEALED PROPERLY.

Some VERY IMPORTANT NOTES(so help me God you had better read these):

  • Make sure that you’re not mixing herbs that will react badly with each other. Please never ever use a herb you’re unfamiliar with. Don’t start making tonics of poisonous plants just because you think it’ll be cool or fun.
  • Make sure that your tonics are properly sealed. You can get mold and other poisons growing in your bottles and jars and they can be potentially fatal. If you’re unsure, always use proper canning jars (“Mason jars”) and follow their canning procedure to the letter. **Note: I didn’t use mason jars here because these tonics are going to be drank all up in the next 3 days. But you should.**
  • Be very careful with your herbs. Always research their side effects, even if you think you’re totally familiar with the plant. For example, raspberry leaves can induce miscarriage through early labour/contractions. Some herbs can react badly with some medications, such as SSRIs or antibiotics.
  • Some herbs need longer to steep than others, especially roots – they’re a lot thicker and need more time to get penetrated by the H2O. Flowers and leaves take a lot less time, but I like to let my roots rest at least overnight.
  • Your first tonics may not last too long, especially if you’re new at making them. Things go wrong, sometimes herbs go rancid. If this ever happens, please don’t drink the tonic. And use the same rule with tonics as you do with food: if you’re unsure, don’t risk it.
  • For advanced tonic makers: due to the magic of science, a little bit of salt and lemon will increase the boiling point of your water and keep your tonic hot for longer, should you need to steep thick roots. Just not too much lemon.

I’d like to do another post on tinctures (like a tonic, but made with alcohol) sometime soon. For personal reasons, I don’t drink alcohol, but I still make tinctures for other people from time to time.

Remember to always be safe and follow correct procedures. We may be witches, but that doesn’t mean we aren’t susceptible to botulinum poisoning.

Have fun everyone!

Living in denial is the temptingly easy path, but it won’t make problems go away. Staying silent is never a cure. It only worsens the condition. Things not brought into the light of open and honest communication grow stealthily in the walls of your relationship, like black mold, slowly poisoning you.

Summon your courage. Do the hard work of examining and confronting. First yourself, and then them. Out of love … always love. This is how you grow.

This is how you heal. The bond will become stronger, or you will know it is time to move on. Either way, when you have done the work, then the next step will become clear.

There’s something sitting inside of me tonight. Something just isn’t sitting right. Inside my head. Inside my mind, and every word someone speaks to me fills me with hate. At first hate for the sound they radiate, but then hate for me. Hate for this crazy, insane person I’ve tried so god damn hard not to be. I’ve been hiding this far far too long and the build up like black mold has poisoned my soul. I’m snapping on people left and right. The more they speak the more my mind fights. Why can’t they all just shut the fuck up and leave me in my own world to write. I don’t want your fucking words. I don’t want to fucking care, but see that? See that thing inside of me? It cares too, so the anger rages within on questioning every single face I know, questioning every intention. But people don’t understand the battle of being insane? Do you fucking know what it’s like to not know if you’re wrong or right or if it’s just the fucking insanity? I’m lost you guys. Truly hidden in this plague building inside.

Moving out of a big house into an apartment because your house has some mold in it:

Finding out that that apartment has TOXIC mold in it after six months of living there, and that that is probably why you regressed so badly:

Having to get rid of all of your furniture and mattresses, this and all of the above causing major anxiety attacks:

Finding a much bigger/nicer apartment and getting this sweet ass couch that is pretty comfy:

And this awesome chair:

Even though I’m still nervous about a new mattress (and possibly new pillows) and everything else…:

Power by Audre Lorde

The difference between poetry and rhetoric

is being

ready to kill

yourself

instead of your children.

I am trapped on a desert of raw gunshot wounds

and a dead child dragging his shattered black

face off the edge of my sleep

blood from his punctured cheeks and shoulders

is the only liquid for miles and my stomach

churns at the imagined taste while

my mouth splits into dry lips

without loyalty or reason

thirsting for the wetness of his blood

as it sinks into the whiteness

of the desert where I am lost

without imagery or magic

trying to make power out of hatred and destruction

trying to heal my dying son with kisses

only the sun will bleach his bones quicker.

The policeman who shot down a 10-year-old in Queens

stood over the boy with his cop shoes in childish blood

and a voice said “Die you little motherfucker” and

there are tapes to prove that. At his trial

this policeman said in his own defense

“I didn’t notice the size or nothing else

only the color.” and

there are tapes to prove that, too.

Today that 37-year-old white man with 13 years of police forcing

has been set free

by 11 white men who said they were satisfied

justice had been done

and one black woman who said

“They convinced me” meaning

they had dragged her 4’10” black woman’s frame

over the hot coals of four centuries of white male approval

until she let go the first real power she ever had

and lined her own womb with cement

to make a graveyard for our children.

I have not been able to touch the destruction within me.

But unless I learn to use

the difference between poetry and rhetoric

my power too will run corrupt as poisonous mold

or lie limp and useless as an unconnected wire

and one day I will take my teenaged plug

and connect it to the nearest socket

raping an 85-year-old white woman

who is somebody’s mother

and as I beat her senseless and set a torch to her bed

a greek chorus will be singing in ¾ time

“Poor thing. She never hurt a soul. What beasts they are.”

hey everyone im judas/sven spiralphobe my house has been getting remodeled for some time because a few years ago the bathroom was destroyed by poisonous black mold and we’ve been living in a bathroom with a rusty toilet/bath tub with mold stains and nothing but dry wall, there isn’t even a door

it’s really expensive because our house is extremely old and there is a lot of problems with it and we are running out of money to pay to fix it, we haven’t had a working toilet for weeks and have been going to fast food places just to use the restroom, its awful and our bathroom smells of rotting wood and rats

so if you wanna help us out my paypal is softdecomposing@gmail.com

we’re pretty much broke and all our money is going to the bathroom to the point where we barely have enough food to eat and it i would appreciate it if you could help me out

@ironicdavestrider @dickmaster420

i don’t know many other popular users on this site because i remake so often but if you could reblog this that would help a lot thank you!!

I like advocating for gun rights. I like guns. I also like reasonable controls (key word there being reasonable) placed upon their sale & distribution. I do honestly believe that certain kinds of weapons have no legitimate purpose in civilian or police hands, I even think that certain kinds of weapons have no legitimate purpose in military hands.

The problem is that, because I do not secretly wish to murder dozens of people under a flimsy ‘stand your ground’ defense, I’m immediately at odds with 99% of the gun activists that infect this country like a shitty, poisonous mold.
