J. M. W. Turner (c. 1775-1851)

Born Joseph Mallord William Turner, this artist suffered many family hardships during his young life. The death of a sister and the institutionalization of his mother, Turner was sent to his uncle to be raised. On a happier note, it was during these times in his young life which his interest in art grew. His family - what little of it he had - supported his artistic endeavours, and when he was just fourteen years old, he was accepted into the Royal Academy of Art.

Turner was quite the prodigy. Exhibiting his work just after a year of study, he continued entering his paintings into successful exhibitions. He became a master in both watercolour and oil medium. Travelling all around Europe, J. M. W. Turner was not just a well-known name in London.

His works are absolutely gorgeous. There are few landscape artists that create paintings so striking as his. The way he works the paint to give the land such airy, cloudy, and atmospheric feel required an immense talent. He often painted destroyed landscapes, such as shipwrecks and even the 1834 Burning of Parliament. Capturing often naturally violent scenes, Turner clearly understood the effects of lighting. This understanding clearly shows itself in his later works, which became more impressionistic and held less focus on the subject matter itself. Colour and lighting help priority and is exactly what sets Turner’s art apart from many other painters of the time.

It’s difficult picking a favourite piece by Turner, but I feel these above, Modern Rome (Campo Vacino) and Snow Storm: Steam-Boat off a Harbour’s Mouth (1842), illustrate the specific style he incorporated during his whole artistic career.

For the fashion in this world, what were the key factors? Like the main inspirations, time periods and cultures?

The setting is based mostly (and loosely) on the periods/places in which the tarot originated, but considering it’s fantasy, the rules are pretty lax. Inspiration for the characters’ fashion has varied from ancient Rome to modern runways. Here’s a few examples:

Clockwise from top left: late 1700s Sweden, Anju Modi, Ann Demeulemeester, early 1900s Albania.

Grandpa Rome Modern Headcanons

- Lovino saying something rude as hell to Feliciano and grandpa Rome just yells “SAVAGE LOVI” and the whole room is now silent

- Grandpa Rome having an airhorn sound effect on his phone and he plays it whenever the boys score a goal in soccer or any other sport

-Grandpa Rome singing Taylor swift on their long ass road trip and constantly telling the boys to shake it off with him

- grandpa rome taking mirror selfies

- Lovino not following him on Instagram(but literally everyone else in the hetalia cast follows him. Even Germany.)

-Feli comes up with the best memes to show his grandfather, so he can learn. So far, his favorite meme is Doge or John Cena.

What is your opinion of the Society of St. Pius X and Catholic Traditionalism as a whole?

Hello,

I have a love-hate relationship with Catholic Traditionalism. What are some of the things I love? First, traditional Catholicism (TC for short) encourages, holds up, and defends the marriage of a man and a woman and their call to be fruitful and multiply.

The traditional Catholic married couples I know love each other, and they love children. They unapologetically have large families. I grew up in a family of six kids, and many TC families are larger. TC parents tend to see their kids as the greatest blessing God could have sent, as if each child is an angel that came down from heaven. They work hard to look after their families in many respects.

The TC movement also has strongly encouraged love for the priesthood and religious life. Because they have larger families, they not only do not discourage a religious vocation among their children, but pray for this. They consider themselves singularly blessed when a son goes off to the seminary, or a daughter to the convent.

They encourage their kids to serve the Church with piety, obedience, reverence, and loyalty. The result is that many holy priests and nuns have come from traditional Catholic families, where they were schooled well in prayer, confession, penance, works of charity, and carrying the Cross/sacrificing for God and country.

Traditional Catholicism is unique in its fierce defense of the prerogatives of the Catholic Church to spread the reign of Christ the King, in society and in their communities. Unlike most modern Catholics, they do not yell “separation of Church and State” whenever a public law is being debated which will encourage looser morals or the living out of the public vices.

They believe that the Church must actively enter the public square and make Christ the King respected and looked up to in His evangelical teachings of justice for all. They will staunchly condemn and resist any political party platforms which promote abortion choice, unnatural marriage, divorce, blasphemy in media and art, and unjust war.

Economically, they encourage our laws to promote hard work and personal initiative, with as little dependence on others as needed. Their outlook toward public tranquility is the defense of the widow, the orphan, the vulnerable, and the strong rule of law to subdue criminality and heinous crime.

Some people call traditional Catholics “Catholic rednecks.” I just believe they are following what they believe to be old-fashioned Catholic values regarding public decency and virtue.

Now, what I hate about traditional Catholicism is a tendency toward self-righteousness and Pharisaical wrangling over the letter of the law. In the case of the Society of St. Pius X, I find that there seems to be a return to Jansenism, condemned in the 17th century as a severe outlook and pessimism regarding human nature and God’s grace.

This Jansenism sees God as severe. His grace is very restrictive—only for the chosen few. His wrath and justice toward those who have failed to join the true Catholic Church, and strictly live by her laws, will be manifest by sending most people to hell.

As a result of the shades of this renewed Jansenism, non-Christians are seen in the SSPX as being in danger of going to hell, no matter how good they are or sincere in their faith. The Jewish people are seen as either Christ-killers or the accursed children of a Covenant that God has completely rejected and repented of. Protestants are loathed also, because among many SSPX, they are seen as aware of Catholic truth and have yet still refused to embrace it—thus, sealing their fate to most likely burn in hell.

The SSPX has no respect for the Catholic sense of confronting modernity. Throughout history, the Catholic Church could be called the inventor of the Marine Corps motto of “Improvise, Adapt, and Overcome.” But TC as espoused by the SSPX seems more comfortable to sound the retreat, to gather in small chapels with prayers in hushed Latin, and to have little mixing with the great numbers of the damned and unwashed who are outside of the confines of the Church.

When Vatican II Council convened in 1962, it was with a view to adaptation of the Church’s methods of conversion, or with a view to incorporating new knowledge of the sciences and of the philosophies of contemporary thinkers. While the Catholic Church of the Middle Ages, and Renaissance, both in philosophy and theology, was allowed to undergo various transformations and growths based on advancing knowledge, the SSPX felt that Vatican II should have merely repeated the past formulas of the Councils of Trent and Vatican I.

The improvisations of the Church after Vatican II are thus seen as a laughable and disgusting experiment in compromise by the SSPX. They consider the worship in vernacular, the movement to reach out to and have dialogue with non-Catholics, and the encouragement of shared power among the clergy and laity as an overthrow of Catholic Order.

There are numerous doctrinal disputes between Rome and the Society. But even more fundamental than resolving those disputes is overcoming a certain fear, and trembling, and loathing, in the Society, of all things that originate in the world and in modern thinking. Rome knows that countless errors were committed in the last 50 years, in the latest attempt to improvise, adapt, and overcome.

But there is, in the post-Vatican II era of the Church, among faithful and stalwart Catholics, especially with Pope Francis, an indomitable and unconquered spirit of “let’s go back to the drawing board, and try, and try again.” We cannot run away from the world and pretend that the world will return to the 16th century, when we waged wars against Protestantism with the help of Christian kings and princes who ruled with divine right and coerced dissidents and strays back into the fold of the True Catholic Church.

Our modern world has freedoms and a sense of personal rights that is, what it is. Insofar as the SSPX fail to, and refuse to, understand and deal with the modern world as it is, it will always be a Catholicism of the remnant who may be holy and faithful in their tiny chapels, but who make little difference for the great majority of people who are still searching to find God and the pearls of the wisdom of Catholicism. God bless and take care, Fr. Angel

I've seen that HUGE masterpost with all the witch labels, and although it's impressive that you've been able to pull together all those resources, for my purposes I was hoping to get the info only on the regional specific witchery. I find SUPER informative and DIFFERENT so Id love to be able to reblog that from you BUT I don't want to tamper or edit your original post without permission. Do you have the post separated by chance, or could you? Because I'd love to reblog so you get the credit!! :)

Here it is!

Regionally Specific Witchery: most were originally tribal based and feature many similarities, such as Paganism and similar craft practices

Europe

Norse: Norse witches worship Norse deities. Witchcraft was very important in ancient Viking culture and a normal part of their everyday life. Warrior shamanism, runes, and sacrifices to the Gods were just some of their important practices. Heathen Witch: Heathenry is Norse/Anglo-Saxon/any Germanic Paganism, also called Asatrú: Ásatrú is a polytheistic faith based on pre-Christian Northern European Pagan beliefs. Emphasis on historical accuracy and the heroic tales as recorded in texts and personal honor, truth and integrity are considered to be some of the highest virtues.

Druid: Druidry means following a spiritual path rooted in the green Earth and hails from the United Kingdom. It means participating in Celtic wisdom teachings, but embracing the contributions of many peoples and times. Druids worship Celtic deities and practice earth based magic.

Hellenic Witch: Witches who are Hellenic or Greek Pagans (Hellenists, Hellenes, Hellenism) are generally polytheists who worship the ancient Greek Olympian gods. Offerings to the Gods are an extremely important element of ritual practice. Hellenismos consider hospitality of great important and place great value on the study and use of classical Greek philosophical texts.

Roman Witch: Roman Pagan witches practice Religio Romana, the pre-Christian religion of Rome. The modern religion reconstructs the ancient faith of Rome and its gods, goddesses and rituals as closely as possible. Every attempt is based on historical accuracy and archaeological evidence. Like their friends the Hellenic Witches focus on the original classical texts, writers and language of their ancestors.

Italian Witch: Strega (Stregheria, La Vecchia Religione, “The Old Religion”), Italian witches practice a form of Witchcraft that encompasses elements of the pre-Christian European magical teachings and ancient Etruscan and Tuscan religions. Many modern Italian Witches today, especially those who still reside in Italy, are Christians who also practice their Old Religion.

Africa

Egyptian Witch: Kemetist witches practice a modern religion based upon the ancient Egyptian family of gods/goddesses and ancient Egyptian ritual practice. While many gods and goddesses are revered or acknowledged, the Kemetic religion is not primarily polytheistic. In many sects of Kemetism, the concept is better described as one god representing many distinct personalities and divinities. Rituals and offerings are often elaborate, and both ancient texts and modern archeological discoveries are very important to modern Egyptian witches.

African Witch: African witchcraft varies region to region of the African continent and can be tribally specific. African witchcraft normally delves in spirit work and shamanism. The most well known type of African witchcraft is Voodoo (Vodou). Voodoo is an ancient West African religion based on spirit work. Voodoo is a religion of spirits. Voodooists believe that the world of humans is shared by the world of the spirits. When a person dies, his spirit passed to the world of the unseen but is still able to see the human world. Spirits, it is believed, in some cases can even impact the world of the living. They also seen as witch doctors in their communities who can heal, work with divination, and give their customers charms and amulets to bring them luck, love, harm to others, and so on.

The Americas

Native American Witch: Each region and tribe of Native Americans have its own unique kind of witchcraft. Each tribe has their own rituals, performed ceremonies, and ritual outfits. They each have their own tools, carvings, and totem poles. In spite of all their differences, Native Americans share a sense of oneness with their land, practice herbology, and hunt, use, and honor animals of Native America. A common magical practice known to have roots in Native American magic is the practice of smudging.

Haitian Vodou: A sect of African Voodoo, they believe in a supreme creator, Bondye, and worship the spirits subservient to him, the Loa. Every Loa is responsible for a particular aspect of life and they cultivate a relationship and worship them much like Pagans worship their Gods and Goddesses. Haitian religious culture is derived from the Kongolese tradition of kanga, the practice of tying one’s soul to something tangible, which is evident in Haitian Vodou. Fearing an uprising in opposition to the US occupation of Haiti, political and religious elites, along with Hollywood and the film industry, sought to trivialize the practice of Vodou. After the Haitian Revolution, many Haitians fled as refugees to New Orleans. Free and enslaved Haitians who moved to New Orleans brought their religious beliefs with them and reinvigorated the Voodoo practices that were already present in the city. Eventually, Voodoo in New Orleans became hidden and the magical components were left present in the public sphere. This created what is called hoodoo in the southern part of the United States.

Louisiana Voodoo: A sect of African Voodoo, knowledge of herbs, poisons, the ritual creation of charms and amulets, and the intension to protect oneself or harm others are key elements of Louisiana Voodoo. Voodoo queens have great power in their communities, are ritual leaders, and draw crowds to buy their magical products, such as “gris gris” amulets and spells that will grant the customers desire. There also Voodoo kings, their male equivalent.

American Hoodoo: A sect of Louisiana Voodoo that is ever evolving. Hoodoo practitioners use gris-gris items, such as amulets and charms, to cure their customers ailments, bring them luck and love, and whatever they desire. Some work closely with the Bible, and have said to see Moses as magical figure.

Bruja/Brujo Witches: Witches who practice witchcraft, brujeria, who are descended from, or live in Spanish speaking South America.

Brazilian Shamanism: Like other tribal or local shaman, they work with the spirit world, work with divination, and are seen as healers. Shamanism is often hereditary in Brazil and they work with a specific animals spirit to derive power from, such as the jaguar. Umbanda: The incorporation of catholic saints with the beliefs of the Brazilian Indians.

Kahunas of Hawaii: Like other shamans, they invoke spiritual help, conduct rituals, and have Pagan local gods who are given offerings. They also have various crafts of Kahunas, such as a high priest, dream interpreter, and reader of the skies. To the Kahunas, and many witches today and in the past, the subconscious is your greatest ally or greatest foe for achieving health, wealth, and happiness.

Asia

Slavic Witches: Today, old techniques of divination, magic, soul travel and healing is known from their ancestors and their native faith Rodnovery. These families, the volkhvy, who have “witchblood” have ancestors from ancient Rodnover priesthood. They are considered masters of a much larger tradition in Russia called koldovstvo, or chaklynstvo. One does not have to possess the lineage of the volkhvy to practice koldovstvo. The Russian volkhvy are thought to be descended from shamans who could shape-shift into bears and wolves, while in Macedonia and Bulgaria they are considered to be descended from dragons. Slavic witches also revere Baba Yaga, one of the most important witch lore figures in Slavic culture, who commonly appears as an old crone who flies within a mortar and holds a pestle. She has many faces, like the Wiccan triple Goddess, such as an Earth Goddess or a symbol of Death.

Japanese Witch: The Pagan Japanese religion of Shinto is shamanistic. Witch is a very positive term in Japan. Japanese witchcraft is commonly separate into two types: those who familiar snakes and those who familiar foxes.

Korean Shamans( Muism or Sinism): Sinism is Pagan shamanism pre-dating Buddhism and Confucianism. The Mu, also known as magician, medicine man, mystic or poet, have the ability to will people into a trance state and astral project. The Mu provides physical, psychological, and spiritual healing. These shamans emphasize holistic living. There are different types of Mu and they are link to the mother goddess associated with a mountain. Each region has a different mountain association, thus a different goddess associated with that region. They make sacrifices to the gods, worship ancestors, sing songs, and meditate.

Chinese Wuism: Chinese shamanism, also called Wuism, was first recorded in the Shang dynasty. These men and women are seen to meditate with the powers to generate things, worship ancestors, and can communicate with the spirits. Gods of nature are prominent in Wuism.

Filipino Witch: Kulam is a form of folk magic from the Phiippines. It emphasizes personal power and the secret knowledge of Magica Baja. Like other witches they practice candle magic, scrying, spell work, and a mangkukulam, a version of the Voodoo doll. They also are witch doctors like other folk magic practitioners who uses divination to diagnose a victim and try to cure them.

Hello! I actually think you've already done a rec for this but I can't find it :( so if you've already done it, feel free to just link it to me. Anyway, what I'm talking about is royalty AU *_* any kind of, also in the past/fairytale settings/basically everything that involves Harry or Louis as a prince (also... Am I the only one thinking that Louis would be a hell of a Louis XIV? I can't stop thinking about him as le roi soleil... He is indeed the sun after all!) Thank you xx

OMG Yes !!! I’m so happy to make you this fic rec !!!!!!! I love this trope soo muuuuch !

So :  ROYALTY AU, here we go

- Wear It Like A Crown , by Zarah5 : AU. As part of a team of fixers hired to handle a gay scandal in Buckingham Palace, Louis expects Prince Harry to be a lot of things—most notably a royally spoilt brat. Never mind that the very same Prince Harry used to star in quite a number of Louis’ teenage fantasies. (141k, aka one of the fic of my Top3 Larry fics ever)

- With the stars in our eyes [drabble] , by wewillnotsurrenderHarry is the Prince of Wales and he asks Louis on a date. (1.3k, cute)

- You Take Me Over, You’re the Magic in My Veins, by @supernope : Louis can feel Harry’s eyes on him as he turns to head toward his seat. He tucks a secretive smile into the palm of his hand while he slides into place beside his sister, his mother’s seat still empty as it awaits the Queen’s entrance. He knows he should be behaving himself a bit more, should be focusing his attention on Gemma, rather than her brother. He’s working on borrowed time, is expected to announce his engagement to the Princess within the next few weeks, but he can’t seem to help himself. Gemma is lovely, kind and witty and beautiful, but he has no interest in being married to her, had no interest in marriage before her arrival, period.Teeth sunk into his bottom lip to disguise his smile, Louis risks a quick glance toward Gemma and Harry’s usual seats, finds Harry already seated and staring steadily back at him. His hair is a mess from Louis’ fingers and his cheeks are still flushed, and Louis’ heart gives a heavy, delighted thud. No, he thinks, he has no desire to be betrothed to Princess Gemma, but he finds he wouldn’t mind being married after all, if it was Prince Harry he was promised to, instead. ( 36k, with a bit of MPREG and lots of pining)

- feel the chemicals burn in my bloodstream  , by @lourrynavy : Harry is a journalist with a lot of secrets and Louis is the future king of the United Kingdom; they live together for 60 days. (123k, magical AU)

- Sail Across Me , by @canonlarry : Harry is a prince that is about to be forced into marriage against his will and running away to sea seems like a much better option. Louis is the captain of the infamous pirate ship The Rogue and he has a thing for helping defenseless creatures. Especially when they’re as pretty as this one. ( 21k, pirate AU with amazing smut)

-The Stars In Your Eyes Light Up The Sky by andthensusays: The one where Harry is a prince forced out of the closet and Louis is a boybander forced in. When they meet, everything changes. (60k, when Royal Au meets Famous!AU. I have to read it again, it’s been a long time. Too much time. )

- my kingdom for a kiss (tonight you’re on my mind) , by @sa-voix : Or, the one where Zayn and Louis make a friendly wager and it goes too far, Harry’s a baker with a heart of gold and really great hair, Liam is an overworked PA who just wants to enjoy his holiday and Niall is completely at ease, as always. An accidentally married AU mixed with a splash of modern royalty. (30k, Prince Louis, accidental marriage AU, amazing!)

- What A Feeling To Be A King Beside You by @misswarncke :  “Tomlinson. Louis Tomlinson, Duke of Wellington, your highness,” the man, or boy considering he seems to be around Harry’s age or slightly older, says with a wink and a quick bow.  Huh. Duke of Wellington. Harry recalls once meeting the Duke of Wellington. He probably wasn’t a day over 7 years and honestly only remembers a mischievous boy with blue eyes that poured gravy on him. But now that he thinks about it, the Duke in front of him does have pretty, blue eyes as well. He’s also got a nice smile and a beautiful jawline covered in short stubble. His chestnut hair is done up in a perfect quiff and his dark navy suit is perfectly tailored to his body. He’s fit.(Basically: Harry is the Prince of Wales and Louis is the Duke of Wellington. They fall in love.) (16k, I love this one)

- Celebrity Discount , by @loaded-gunn : Louis fell for Prince Harry when he was ten and Harry was eight and peeked behind the Queen’s elegant gown for his first public appearance—a shy smile and a mess of curls. He fell for him when he caught Lottie putting up a magazine cover of Harry on her wall and all she had to say for herself was, “He’s such a good person, yeah?” and, yeah. He fell for him when Harry gracefully accepted his demotion. He fell for him when Harry came out and stayed out.   (Prince!Harry  , 27k)

- Foolishly Completely Falling by @isthatyoularry : Louis is ¼ of the infamous boy band One Direction and has had a crush on the Prince of Wales for ages. Prince Harry is gay and out and when he spills on a tv show about finding a certain Louis fit, their paths cross and everything turns into a tumult of emotions and anxiety, and the complications when you just want to show the world who you love. (85k, Prince Harry and boybander Louis)

- Glow by @haydolce : Alien AU, with a hint of Royal AU. A summer barbecue at the Tomlinson’s is interrupted by a naked visitor from a peaceful planet far, far away. Can an alien and a human survive a summer together for the sake of the human race? (41k, ok this one is probaby my fav fic of Dolce tbh ^^)

And I haven’t read them yet, but it looks great :

- Common : Henry VIII ruined it for everybody. Now the king or queen can only marry a person chosen by the magic of the church, or disaster will befall Britain. Prince Louis, heir apparent to the British throne, dislikes most things about his inheritance–but most of all that it could keep him from finding the real love of his life. (magical AU, with a mix of High-school AU ? I really need to read this!)

- The King and I : Louis -better known as The Rogue- is the legendary King of the Thieves of London, the underground network of criminals who run the city. Zayn is his second in command, Niall is an Irish fugitive with ultra high-tech hacking skills, and Liam is a dirty cop who lets Rogue and his crew get away with just about anything. Harry is Britain’s absolute worst criminal and a professional scapegoat who flees Cheshire in search of good treatment, and just might find it under the wing of London’s regal mastermind. (43k)

- Turn and face the strange: “Yeah okay, look, um. I’m in a relationship now, mum. And it’s pretty serious and I’m very much in love with him.” Louis’ mum’s face lights up at that. “Well why didn’t you say?! Can we meet him?! Is he here today?”“This is the catch. He’s kind of, well, he’s incredibly famous. So he couldn’t be at the ceremony but he’s in the car and we’re going to go back to his home for some lunch, is that okay?”“Famous?! Louis, if this is some sort of joke…”“It’s not, mum, I promise. Please can you just get in the car? He’s in this one, I want you three to meet him first, just don’t freak out, please,” he says, gesturing at Harry’s traditional black car.Or the one where Harry is going to be King, Louis can’t handle it like he thinks, Zayn is finally happy, Liam’s a massive geek and Niall’s marrying a princess.    (26k, aaaahhhhhhh I need this now!)

- All The King’s Men : Louis is an arrogant, self assured prince who falls in love with a charming thief named Harry during his youth. However, years later, a revolution is sparked amongst the frustrated commoners… and Louis’s former teenage romance is leading it. (39k)

- call it magic, call it true : Harry Styles loves hockey, art history and speaks Italian. His Royal Highness Prince Louis of Wales is second in line to inherit the British Throne. Their relationship is sometimes a fairytale but occasionally a nightmare.(Louis is the Prince William to Harry’s Kate Middleton.) (17k, OMG)

(and now I hate you cause I wanna read all them again)

UPDATE (last update on SEPTEMBER 24th 2016 :

- Bittersweet and Strange by Keep_Calm_And_Read_Fic :    Beauty and the Beast AU in which Harry is taken prisoner in King Louis ‘The Beast’ Tomlinson’s castle, Master Liam Payne may or may not be a torture specialist, Master Zayn Malik may or may not be the Master of War, and no one will tell him what the hell Niall does around here. Basically, Harry hates his enemy with a passion. Then he kind of has a passion for his enemy. Then he wonders if he and Louis are enemies at all. (41k)

- now I’ll surrender up my heart and swap it for yours: Louis can’t believe this. He just - he honestly, in all of the ideas he had in his head as to who Harry was, he never in a million years thought this was going to be the answer. “You’re a prince?” Liam asks, for what is possibly the hundredth time in the past five minutes. It seems to be the only thing either of them can say. Harry’s sat primly in his chair, back a straight line and hands folded neatly on the kitchen table. He nods once, and bows his head slightly. “Yes.”“And you have to stay here,” Louis clarifies, “Because you were almost kidnapped?”OR - a (kind of) Princess Protection Program AU (17k)

- When In Rome  : A modern day Roman Holiday AU, where Harry is the prince of pop on a European tour desperately in need of a break and Louis is an expat in Rome just trying to make rent. (19k)

- King and Lionheart        : Prince Louis Tomlinson is the first out gay monarch in his small country’s history. After facing a failed attack in town, he understands why. Expect the unexpected seems applicable, but nothing could have prepared him for his own mother’s reaction – a bodyguard by the name of Harry Styles. Alternatively titled: A Prince and His Bodyguard  (30k)

- In the Clear        : After Princess Gemma and her fiance Niall are captured by the witch from across the land, Harry and Louis are forced on a journey together to save them. Featuring Lumberjack Liam, Magical Zayn, unsolicited tattoos, and untangling the past. Also known as The Larrietale. (80k)

- You Took My Heart By Surprise  : There is reason to believe Prince Harry’s life is in danger. After a failed kidnapping attempt, Louis is assigned to guard Harry around the clock. He is the best at what he does, but he has a tendency to not get along with clients. Louis and Harry start off on the wrong foot, but it soon becomes clear that neither is at all what the other expected.  (33k)

- Like a Bullet in the Dark  : Prince Harold Edward Styles Lancaster is second in line to the throne of Great Britain. He is also your average Uni student- or he tries to be, anyway. With a promise from the press (and his father) that they’ll leave him alone for four years, he sets out to be a student at Cambridge, when he meets his very normal, very working class, very handsome suite-mate, Louis Tomlinson. Louis makes Harry feel more like a person than he ever has before, which might cause some issues later on- ‘cause Harry has a secret that he’s only told his sister Gemma about. Little does he know though, that Louis has some secrets of his own. A Will & Kate Au- with a twist. (100k)

anonymous asked:

(1/?) I’m starting with the second part of the second verse.
“I’m not free, I asked forgiveness three times,
Same amount that I denied, I three-time mvp'ed this crime,
I’m afraid to tell you who I adore, won’t tell you who I’m singing towards,
Metaphorically I’m a whore, and that’s denial number four.”
“Denial of Peter (or Peter’s Denial) refers to three acts of denial of Jesus by the Apostle Peter as described in all four Gospels of the New Testament.”
St Peter denied knowing Jesus 3 times.

(2/?) Okay now let’s go down to “Metaphorically I’m a whore.”
He’s not actually calling himself a slut.
He is calling himself a whore like the Whore Of Babylon, which ties in to idolatry. But also, Rome is modern day Babylon. Peter is the Rock of Rome or… The Whore of Babylon.

(3/?) “And that’s denial number four”
He’s in denial of what he’s done to himself.
Okay, but now let’s go to the chorus, “the darks not taking prisoners tonight”
The Whore is also tied in to the antichrist or evil. Aka darkness
I don’t think he’s literally talking about dark night time
I think he is talking about Satan.
And he said “I swear I heard demons yelling,
Those crazy words they were spelling”

(4/?) And he said “I will set my soul on fire, what have I become?
I’ll tell them.”
He’s asking what he has become. He’s telling us he turned himself in to an idol.
Now going back to the first verse.
“I don’t want to be the one, be the one who has the sun’s blood on my hands,”

(5/?) As for the story goes of St. Peter,
“All four Canonical Gospels state that during Jesus’ Last Supper with his disciples, he predicted that Peter would deny knowledge of him, stating that Peter would disown him before the rooster crowed the next morning. Following the arrest of Jesus Peter denied knowing him thrice, but after the third denial, heard the rooster crow and recalled the prediction as Jesus turned to look at him. Peter then began to cry bitterly.”

(6/?) He denied Jesus, Jesus was arrested, Jesus was crucified.
Peter had the sons blood on his hands. The son/sun of God.
Peter repented after this. He begged Jesus and God for forgiveness after he saw what was going to happen.
“I’m pleading please, oh please on my knees repeatedly asking,
Why it’s got to be like this.”

(7/7) Now as for the name Ode To Sleep.
Jesus took them to the Garden Of Gethsemani. While he prayed they fell asleep.
“On the eve of a day that is bigger than us,
But we open our eyes ‘cause we’re told that we must,
And the trees wave their arms and the clouds try to plead”
Jesus told them to wake up. They kept falling asleep though he prayed 3 times. The End. Sorry that was so long.

dAMN DUDE THANK U SO MUCH FOR SENDING THIS!!! I’VE BEEN ENLIGHTENED™ THIS IS SO CLEVER

[previous] [epilogue]

I can’t start a comic about Rome without bringing up Carthage, hehehe. Greece, like most ancients, thinks the world revolves around herself. Egypt is old enough to know it does. Poor Egypt, she only really came for the food and soft pillows!

Oh yeah- “Melitta” is just a word for ‘honey’ or 'honey bee’, both in Greek and Latin I think. It’s a pet name and the origin of the modern name “Melissa”.

The Greeks and the Carthaginians both had settlements all along the Mediterranean, including in Southern Italy and Sicily. Therefore, I count them among Rome’s immediate and important neighbours!

Next there’s going to be a more historiography-framed comic explaining some of the modern knowledge on mythical Rome! c: stay tuned!
