Giovanni Paolo PaniniModern Rome, 1751. Oil on canvas

From the Metropolitan Museum of Art, NYC:

Among Panini’s most brilliant inventions are this picture and its pendant, “Ancient Rome.” They contrive to show the most famous monuments of the city as paintings arranged in a sumptuous gallery. They were painted for the great French collector, the Count de Stainville, later Duke de Choiseul, ambassador to Rome between 1753 and 1757; the Duke is shown seated in an armchair. Among the most famous works are Michelangelo’s “Moses” and Bernini’s statues of “Constantine,” “David,” “Apollo” and “Daphne,” and his fountains in the Piazza Navona. Panini also shows his own, unexecuted, proposal for the design of the Spanish Steps.

I found the painting, it’s actually two paintings I mixed together in my head.

They’re both by the Italian artist Giovanni Paolo Panini and are titled “Ancient Rome” and “Modern Rome” respectively. They were painted in the mid 1700s.

Look at them though, look at the painting inside of them and how good those are. The painting in the hall have the right perspective.

Like damn, I can barely even wake up in the morning and this guy painted two paintings that are essentially like painting 50 paintings damn.
