It’s a cohesive story from beginning to end. It’s about a fairy tale version of myself named Cry Baby. It has whimsical elements based on true events that have happened in my life, and then other made up fairy tale fiction. (x)
My mom never let me bleach my hair so I told her I’m gonna go all Cruella De Vil when I was 16, but she did not believe me. When I came home from the salon, she freaked out and didn’t talk to me for a week.
Working on this album has been very emotional and super personal, and creating this character Cry Baby helped me deal with my own insecurities. I was able to throw it all onto Cry Baby instead of myself, which really helped me. It’s definitely been a process.
