I wanted to thank you guys for all the feedback I’ve gotten in asks and comments since my previous post! Thanks to everyone who took the time to give some honest tough-love critique. Some of it was confirmation of things I knew I needed to work on, some of it was out of the blue new stuff to think about! Thanks for helping me improve :)

One of the issues that came up from more than one source was that my female body-types and designs were not as varied or strong as their male equivalents. Which was a wake up call, since I care deeply about issues of representation in design- thanks for the heads up. I’ll be making a concerted effort to take more risks with the ladies I design going forward.

Thinking of that, I hopped on Twitch tonight spontaneously and started doodling Dola from Laputa: Castle in the Sky. She’s just such a killer character, and Miyazaki does an amazing job of varying his female cast members and giving each character nuance and dignity. Dola is an all time favorite, and I could use the practice, so…
