You know me - can’t turn down an Albariño! Straw notes with lemon, sea salt, and stone on the nose. Simpler than I would like on the palate with lemon, apple, pear, a hint of minerality, stone, and even a hint of salinity.
Guilty Pleasures: Every so often, especially if Quinn is away, she’ll spend an evening eating deep-fried sleen tails, drinking an irresponsibly large glass of whiskey, and bingeing a bunch of episodes of Wrathful Wrats. She tried to get Vette interested in the show, but Vette was pretty grossed out by the fact that it’s basically propaganda for kids. This is one of those things where Mara and Vette had to agree to disagree.
Phobias: losing touch with or the ability to feel her emotions. Scourge unnerves her in part because he’s a traitor, but also because his state of being represents her single biggest fear.
What They Would Be Famous For: Well she’s quite famous as the Wrath, even before Shadow of Revan. In another life she may have been famous as a singer.
What They Would Get Arrested For: Well. The file the SIS and other Republic agencies have on her is… quite large. Within the Empire… Honestly as the Wrath she is… somewhat above the law except in the most egregious (read: treasonous) circumstances. She was a somewhat boring teenager, too - I mean, she played pranks and shit at the academy and was probably reprimanded at least once. But nothing that approached warranting an arrest.
OC You Ship Them With: None. She’s Quinn’s and he’s hers.
OC Most Likely To Murder Them: Zretse. Not least because of Mara’s role in kicking the Republic off of Balmorra, which probably means Zenith would hate her guts, and Zenith has a lot of sway with Zretse, I have decided.
Favorite Movie/Book Genre: Different moods, but either: raunchy comedies (she loves the SWTOR equivalent of Paul Feige, basically) or Imperial history documentaries. The former is something she shares with Vette and Pierce; the latter with Quinn. The full crew basically can’t watch a holodrama together because it’s going to be the most banal shit ever to appeal to everyone’s tastes, and they all have better things to do than that.
Least Favorite Movie/Book Cliche: So. Time for some worldbuilding. Sith are renowned for their opera. The Jedi Order, on the other hand, is renowned for perfecting the mystery play. Force Mystery Plays come in two flavors: one is a cycle of 50 plays that covers Jedi history and lore. Mara has read a (heavily annotated) edition of the 50 historical mystery plays. She disagrees with most of the themes and morals but can appreciate the craft and form of the work and the exquisite wordsmithing.
The second flavor of Jedi mystery play is less formalized and is more a framework within which Jedi playwrights present original stories. However, the vast majority of the second flavor tend to involve a fallen Jedi protagonist who is, inevitably, redeemed to the light with a heavy emphasis on themes of redemption and forgiveness and the value of detachment.
Mara hates those.
Talents and/or Powers: She’s a talented Force user, of course, a halfway decent slicer thanks to Vette, and a lapsed but accomplished singer.
Why Someone Might Love Them: She’s an Imperial patriot, fiercely loyal to her crew and family, extremely witty, and honestly? She’s just really damn charming.
Why Someone Might Hate Them: She’s an Imperial patriot, in the right circumstances her charm gives way to arrogant smugness, and that wit turns sharp real fast if she decides she doesn’t like you.
How They Change: Weirdly, Mara becomes less secure - and therefore more flexible - as her story progresses. She starts off convinced that she’s right, that the Empire is right, and that she’s amazing and in control. As we get through Shadow of Revan and beyond, however, her faith in the Empire is… more nuanced, constructively critical; her sense of control is completely shaken. I *think* that’s for the best, but I’m not sure.
Why You Love Them: Ugh where to start? I have little confidence or charm in real life, so of course I gave Mara both in spades. She’s so much fun to get to know, and to write, and her relationship with Quinn is complicated and messy and difficult to sum up succinctly and just… to paraphrase Jane Austen, she’s the most exquisite creature I’ve ever created and I love her so. I don’t know if that’s a satisfying answer at all, but yeah.
Guilty Pleasures: Her dorm on Tython has a drawer filled with ill-gotten, trashy romance holonovels, at least 80% of which feature the immensely popular Zabrak model Zemedelec in all his horned, tastefully-nude glory.
Phobias: Helplessness. She grew up caught between rival gangs and at the mercy of the whims of the Hutts. She welcomed the chance to become a Jedi because she thought her Force sensitivity would keep her from feeling that ever again.
What They Would Be Famous For: On some backwater somewhere there’s a town that has a holiday in her honor, a la the Firefly episode “Jaynestown”, celebrating her exploits liberating them from pirates or what have you. Her motives were slightly more pure than Jaynes, but once people realize just how many pieces the pirate leader wound up in, the celebrations become a little muted.
What They Would Get Arrested For: Shoving those damn Rift Alliance assholes out an airlock. Desertion (or the Jedi equivalent, eventually). Probably a host of other crimes, petty and otherwise, against both factions once she becomes a free agent working under her own code.
OC You Ship Them With: None at present. Honestly? Right now I ship her with Zenith, ngl.
OC Most Likely To Murder Them: Hrm. Mara would certainly be willing to kill Zretse in battle for acting against the Empire. Czessara is a bleeding heart who believes in the fundamental goodness of most beings, so I doubt she’d kill Zretse unless her hand were very, very forced.
Favorite Movie/Book Genre: Romances. The sappier & more cliche, the better.
Least Favorite Movie/Book Cliche: Police procedurals. Growing up on Nar Shadaa, she saw far too many of those investigations first hand to be entertained by them.
Talents and/or Powers: She is sneaky, good with a double-bladed lightsaber, is fond of stealing.
Why Someone Might Love Them: She’s zealously devoted to justice and viciously loyal to people she deems worthy.
Why Someone Might Hate Them: Her version of “justice” isn’t necessarily universal, and the ends justify the means in her mind.
How They Change: She starts off working within the confines of the Jedi Code and the order’s power structure, trying to sort of smoosh herself into that mold despite the fact that it’s a poor fit. Eventually she declares herself done with that nonsense and strikes out on her own (possibly with Zenith at her side, not sure yet).
Why You Love Them: I honestly don’t know! The storyline is sort of meh and the playstyle makes me miss my inquisitor but somehow I just latched onto her and she’s become more three dimensional in my mind. Also, ngl, she’s pretty and looks really good with Dark Side eyes.
okay but like shawn mendes is such a pure soul, this is an 18 year old boy singing about how we “wants” this girl but he’s not going to do anything without her consent, who made a song which could be read as about being in the ‘friendzone’ but the music video shows an accurate portrayal of an abusive relationship + the national hotline number for domestic violence, who cried performing a song about his dad like honestly. this kid
