FIRST THINGS FIRST MY REVIEW OF THE 300TH EPISODE HAS 248 NOTES! THAT IS ABSOLUTELY BONKERS! BUT THANK YOU SO MUCH TO EVERYONE WHO READ IT, COMMENTED, RE-BLOGED, LIKED ETC. I GUESS I WILL KEEP ON WRITING REVIEWS THEN…
Best Quotes from the episode:
“I’m calling Aretha Franklin.” - Miranda Bailey
“That’s how we did it in the stone age!” - Richard Webber
“You aided and abetted an imbecile!” - Miranda Bailey
Grey Sloan got Hacked
Ok I have to admit this episode was a let down in comparison to the wonderful ride season 14 has been on so far. I’m not entirely sure what I expected, I just expected more.
The concept that the hospital would be hacked was very interesting but nothing really happened. Yes, we were left on a couple of cliff-hangers but I don’t feel as though there was enough excitement throughout the episode to really get me to care.
The cliff-hangers we were left with were: the little boy, Jackson and Maggie’s patient in the helicopter and Meredith’s patient but none of them really made me worried for the characters. I would have liked to have seen something happen to one of the doctors which would then get everyone panicked.
They advertised this as an action-packed thriller and I have to say Amelia’s recovery from her surgery had me ‘clutching my pearls’ far more than this storyline did. I’m sorry Grey’s but as I said before, I’m not entirely sure what I was expecting, I just expected more.
Jackson and Maggie
They were the “couple” whom the episode paid the most attention too throughout this plot-line. I have always been openminded towards them as a couple but 8 episodes have passed now and they have only held hands, once. They are obviously trying to build up tension between the two but this is dragging out a little too long.
There were definitely some very sweet moments between the two characters such as Jackson saying “some people sneak up on you” and “I would have remembered you” as well as the few stolen glances between the two.
A lot of people describe Maggie as immature but I think she is just innocent. As she said in the season finale of season the worst thing that has ever happened to her is her parents divorcing, and now her mother dying. Maggie has experienced very little pain so I think it is understandable that she is all sunshine and daisies - not everyone suffers in life and although that may seem unfair, it actually reminds us that there is some good in the world.
I would like to see a far more definite progression in their relationship as unfortunately people are now starting to lose interest.
Carina - Arizona - Owen
“Every morning he tells me it’s just fun!” I’m sorry Carina, I like you - I do, but if Arizona is telling you she misses you then why are you fooling around with someone who can only offer you sex because he is not over his wife yet?!
The Owen-Carina relationship can’t, realistically, last much longer as she is obviously hung up on Arizona and he is only looking for fun. He will get bored eventually.
My favourite interaction of the episode was the Carina-Arizona dynamic. They work well together and I really like them as a couple. I just wish they would talk about their feelings. I do think this means they will be back together soon as they both admitted to missing each other.
Bye, bye Owen - Carizona are rising!
Paul is back! (Dun, dun, dunnnnnnn!)
This was the only part of the episode that truly left me intrigued for the next half of the season. I really hope they do justice to the domestic violence story-line as both Ellen Pompeo and Caterina Scorsone have already spoke out referring to it as very moving and a story that needs to be told. So because of them I do have high expectations!
The direction surrounding Jo coming face to face with him was very good. It was like being faced by your worst nightmare. You could feel the panic, fear and sense of nausea just from the camera-work and Camilla’s acting so I am really looking forward to this plot-line in 14B.
I would have liked to have seen more character development. I remember writing this about 13x22 - there was simply no character development or development of any storylines. Which unfortunately makes for a boring episode. This episode (excluding a few scenes) could almost be regarded as a stand-alone episode. I don’t feel it added much to the series unfortunately.
I would have liked to have seen the Lady Chief Trifecta interacting more, something/anything surrounding Omelia, more development between Jo and Alex and I wish something would just happen with Maggie and Jackson!
Everyone was in this episode but no one made a difference… Except Webber as without him they would have had so many dead patients. The stone ages seemed pretty awesome tbh!
What I would like to see in 14B:
Facing the domestic violence story head-on - Jolex engaged
Something - anything to happen between Jackson and Maggie
A reconciliation/hook-up/something between Omelia
Carina and Arizona back together
April come into her own more and put her own happiness first
Ben and Bailey not break-up, but continue to provide us with great one liners about how much she is mad at him
Meredith to keep on kicking surgical ass and maybe begin a new flirtation with a new doctor (whom apparently they have just hired)
I WOULD LOVE TO HEAR EVERYONE ELSE’S OPINIONS SURROUNDING THIS EPISODE AND SEASON 14 SO FAR IN GENERAL! PLEASE SHARE!
