Aelin sighed as she mixed together her hot cocoa. She added hot milk to the powder, stirring it in her favourite Christmas mug before adding some mini marshmallows. She counted the marshmallow one by one, just to keep her mind occupied.
She didn’t want to think about the fact that it was Christmas Eve. Or the fact that she had to, somehow, explain to her four year old daughter why her daddy wasn’t home to spend Christmas Eve with them. Or the fact that Rowan’s plane was suppose to get in this morning, and she still had yet to hear from him. Because when she thought about all this, she worried.
Aelin wasn’t one to worry. She hated worrying.
She tried to convince herself that there was no need to worry. The storm outside wasn’t quite blizzard weather. Most flights were cancelled. She had been checking the airport website all day, since Rowan didn’t arrive at 11am like he was suppose too. But Rowan’s flight apparently took off almost three hours ago. And he was only a hour and a half flight away.
Aelin cupped her hands around the warm mug as she walked over to the couch. The fire and Christmas light were the only things lighting the room. Evalin had placed cookies and milk on the coffee table for Santa before she went to bed.
It was a fight to get Evalin in bed. Normally she was so excited for Christmas morning that she basically ran to bed at supper. But Rowan wasn’t here. For the first time since Aelin and Rowan started dating, he wasn’t here for Christmas Eve. And every Christmas Eve, Rowan would read Evalin a Christmas story before bed. This year, Aelin read Evalin her book. And she wasn’t to happy about it.
“But mama,” Evalin whined as Aelin tucked her in. “Daddy does really funny voices.”
“I know, baby.” Aelin smiled down at her daughter. “But daddy can’t be here right now.”
“But,” Aelin watched as tears started to form in Evalin’s turquoise eyes, her bottom lip shaking. “Daddy’s never missed Christmas before.”
Aelin’s heart all but shattered at those words.
But she wasn’t going to think about everything Rowan missed today. Because he would be here soon. She knew it. He had to be. Because Aelin couldn’t have last night - when Rowan called to tell her his phone was about to die, he lost his charger and he would see his girls in the morning - be the last time she talked to him. Aelin tried to get Rowan to buy a new charger at the airport, but he “had millions home already” and would “be home soon”.
Aelin shook her head. She was being silly. Of course last night wasn’t going to be the last time she’d talk to Rowan. He would be home soon. She wasn’t even going to put out Evalin’s gifts until he got home. Because Rowan was so picky about how the presents looked under the tree.
Taking a long sip of her drink, Aelin eyed the photo albums under the coffee table. She stared at them for a moment before placing her mug down and picking the albums up. Because what better way to keep your mind busy then by looking at pictures.
Aelin loved keeping photo albums. Her mother always kept albums around their house. And she had pictures of everything, right up until the moment she passed away.
Under her coffee table were just a few of the dozens Aelin had. All Christmas themed, obviously, for this time of year. One album belonged to Aelin’s mother, full of pictures from Aelin’s first Christmas. Another was of Evalin’s first Christmas. But the one Aelin stopped on, the one she pulled onto her lap, was of her and Rowan’s first Christmas living together, in this very house.
Aelin smiled softly as she ran her hand over the cover, memories rushing forward.
Five years ago, when she was just 20 and after dating Rowan for about one year, they moved into this house. Just a month before Christmas. WIthin the next two years that followed, they were married and had Evalin.
But that first Christmas, just the two of them and their friends… Aelin collected all the photos that were captured those days leading up to Christmas and put them in an album.
She ran her hand over the gold cover once more. Our First Christmas was written in on the cover in Rowan’s handwriting. And (In the house, not together) was written in Aelin’s just under it.
Biting her lip, Aelin fought back the bitter emotions that started to build up. She pushed back the nasty thoughts that threatened to take over her mind.
Instead of giving in, instead of thinking about everything that was wrong. Instead of thinking about Rowan not being here, his arms wrapped around her as they cuddle in front of the fire, she placed the album on the couch next to her.
Taking the blanket off the back of the couch and picking up her hot cocoa once again, Aelin cuddled into the corner of the couch. She picked up the album once again and, with a deep sigh and small smile on her lips, she opened to the first page.
A/N: You guys seemed to like my fall drabble so I decided to do a Winter one. Hope you all enjoy! Also to the anon that requested the sad Stiles imagine I’m almost done!
Humming along to “All I want for Christmas” by Mariah Carey, you poured the pure delicious chocolatey goodness you call hot chocolate into two mugs. The space left in the mugs was filled with mini marshmallows and whip cream. Dancing to the tune in holiday spirits you sang softly swaying your hips as pine trees and wood burning filled your senses. You slid across the floor with your fuzzy Christmas socks putting the whipped cream in the fridge before bringing both mugs careful not to spill them on the rug to the living room.
Preheat oven to 300ºF. Grease a 1½-quart ovenproof glass bowl.
In a medium bowl, whisk together flour, cocoa powder, baking soda, and salt.
In a large bowl, with an electric mixer, beat butter until creamy. Add sugar and beat until light and fluffy, 3 to 5 minutes.
In a small bowl, whisk together eggs and vanilla. In another small bowl, whisk together sour cream and milk. Pour egg mixture into butter-sugar mixture and beat on medium speed for 2 minutes.
On a low speed, alternate adding flour mixture and sour cream mixture to butter-egg mixture, beginning and ending with flour and adding the food coloring with the first addition of liquid.
Pour the batter into the greased glass bowl until it is two-thirds full. You will have a little leftover batter.
Slow-bake until a cake tester inserted in the center comes out clean, about 1 hour and 30 minutes.
Let the cake cool and then remove it from the bowl. Level the top with a large knife and place the cake, flat side down, on a cake plate.
Use an offset spatula to frost the cake with a very thin layer of cream cheese frosting.
1. In a small sauce pan, whisk all the ingredients except the gel color and bring to a boil over medium heat.
Whisk in the gel color until well combined and cool to use.
Pour marshmallows into a microwave-safe bowl and then stir in water to evenly coat the marshmallows.
Microwave for 30 seconds and then stir. Repeat this process two more times, or until the mixture is smooth.
Sift 3 cups of powdered sugar into a large bowl and make a hole in the center. Pour the melted marshmallow mixture onto the powdered sugar. Sift the rest of the powdered sugar on top of the marshmallows.
Oil your hands to prevent the marshmallows from sticking to you. Knead in the sugar until you have the consistency of soft taffy and the fondant no longer sticks to your hands.
Time to decorate!
Roll out the fondant into ½-inch thick ropes and arrange them on the cake to look like a brain.
Use a paintbrush to brush the raspberry blood over the fondant.
TaDa! This brain cake will make the perfect creepy treat for your Halloween get-together!
[summary]: Bucky’s first Christmas with the Reader is more than he could have ever asked for.
[a/n]: i didn’t edit this so if there’s mistakes don’t hate me
Bucky had never, even in his vaguest memories, had a Christmas like this, a warm, safe Christmas, a Christmas with a tree and tinsel, a Christmas with eggnog and hot chocolate with mini marshmallows, a Christmas with funny, heart-warming holiday films, a Christmas with her.
Saeran loves hot cocoa. It doesn’t matter what time of the year it is. He loves it. He loves drinking it in the morning for breakfast and at dinner time.
He loves his hot cocoa with mini marshmallows, a mountain of whipped cream and a sprinkle of cinnamon.
The reason he loves hot chocolate so much is because it was one of the first things MC had offered him when he was first settling into the RFA. It reminds him about sweet and warm MC is. Not that he would ever tell them that.
*Sam knocks before entering the living room sadly, Matt, Foggy and Karen following*
“Merry Christmas Tony…are you drinking?”
“Tony switch it out for some cookies. Come on man you like these ones the best.”
“We have some homemade hot chocolate mix along with whipped cream, mini marshmallows, and peppermint bits. I’ll make some for you two and you guys can decide what toppings you have.”
“I also brought some Shepherd’s pie. It’s my mom’s family recipe. And it’s fresh and organic, so that’s a bonus.”
“And I got you two tsum tsums. The Iron Man is yours, Tony, and the Falcon one is yours, Sam. They’re really soft and I heard they’re cute along other good reviews. They’re also great cuddle buddies. Karen and Foggy helped me find them.” *gives the tsum tsums to their owners* “I can also do anything else you two need. I also plan on going out tonight on duty. I’ll contact you guys if I hear anything.”
“Thanks, guys… Merry Christmas.”
somewhere in New York
*looks at his phone* “Tony…”
“Why do you have to make this so difficult…”
“I don’t know why are you being a prick about Hydra Cap. I miss Sam. Steve why can’t we go home?”
