mini lop rex

Do you have any breed suggestions for first-time rabbit owners? I would love to have a pet rabbit, but I don't know what sort of breeds I should be doing research on.

Hi anon, this is a topic I could probably go on for a long time… basically there are a lot of breeders who don’t select for temperament still, so you will find mean examples of any breed. Just recently I was helping out a young lady with her dream pet, a 15 week old Flemish giant, who was attacking her…
Generally commercial breeds and angora should both be safe choices, as usually there is much lower tolerance for bad behavior for them… though also mini rex, Holland lops, and Netherlands should also be very sweet if you want something smaller.
If you are going through a rescue a younger animal will probably be a better choice for a first rabbit, rabbits that have been through hard times can be very difficult to work with and won’t be a good first time experience (true for any species of animal).
Of course your handling is also going to make a huge difference. Try not to boss your bunny around too much, always remember that they are a prey animal so you can be extremely threatening to them.. probably the biggest things are to let bunny hop out of their cage on their own instead of dragging them out, and (especially with does), don’t clean their cage while they are still inside it. Even if you have them in a big playroom a smaller cage/hut, preferably dark, should be available so they can hide in their “burrow.”

Twas the night before Christmas when all through the house not a creature was stirring, not even a bun. The stockings where hung by the hutch with care, with hopes that St Paws soon would be there. The buns were all nestled snug in their beds, while visions of craisins danced in their heads…
Happy Christmas to all, and to all a good night.

So we have a new babu~

This is lil’ Peanut, she’s 8 weeks old and Popcorn and Ringo love her (thank god)

After we lost Ponyo, Popcorn (the big mama) got pretty sad, and I had Peanut plopped into my arms so I thought I’d see if the others could get on with her so Popcorn didn’t have to miss her boyfriend so much.

Popcorn now thinks Peanut is HER babu and follows her everywhere so IS GREAT SUCCESS.

Ringo really likes her too >w< (Fluffy little lion man)

So that’s where I’ve been the last couple of days. Expect many bunny doodles. <3
