One thing that steaming media is terribly great for is introducing you to an amazing new show… After it’s been canceled.
“The Fades” is one of those shows - A powerful supernatural show starring Iain De Caestecker - now known for his role as Fitz on Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D., Natalie Dormer - known for being Natalie friggin’ Dormer (and for Game of Thrones among other things), and Daniel Kaluuya - a name that may be unfamiliar, but a smile and gentle gaze unmistakable from that of his role as Bing in a haunting episode of “Black Mirror” called “Fifteen Million Merits.”
Zombies but not zombies, “Fades” are ghosts that a chosen few people known as “Angelics” can see. They may or may not have a smattering of other abilities other than the sight, but those range from character to character, and sharing more might spoil too much. De Caestecker’s character Paul discovers that he is an Angelic quite by accident, and is thrust into a world in which the Fades are beginning to gain corporeal form by… well, I did mention zombies.
In true BBC fashion, the first season is only 6 episodes long, but oh man… did they manage to cram one hell of a story in there! Season 1 has a pretty damn satisfactory ending, but it’s cliff-hanger invited a follow up dealing with literally a whole new level of Fades/Angelics mythos. I was crushed to find out that it had been canceled, but it was fairly safe to assume in retrospect since the three afore mentioned cast members have moved on to other projects.
Still… One can hope that someday it might happen. Maybe. In the meantime, I recommend checking it (and Natalie Dormer’s tots…yep) out for yourself on Hulu!
🌟🌟🌟🌟/5 - Mostly because of that damn cliff hanger.
