Business, Sales, and Persuasion Tips from The Wolf of Wall Street
“The only thing standing between you and your goal is the bullshit story you keep telling yourself as to why you can’t achieve it.”
“Successful people are 100% convinced that they are masters of their own destiny , they’re not creatures of circumstance, they create circumstance, if the circumstances around them suck they change them.”
“No matter what happened to you in your past, you are not your past, you are the resources and the capabilities you glean from it. And that is the basis for all change.”
“Act as if! Act as if you’re a wealthy man, rich already, and then you’ll surely become rich. Act as if you have unmatched confidence and then people will surely have confidence in you. Act as if you have unmatched experience and then people will follow your advice. And act as if you are already a tremendous success, and as sure as I stand here today – you will become successful.”
“The easiest way to make money is - create something of such value that everybody wants and go out and give and create value, the money comes automatically.”
The Art of Persuasion
“There’s the truth about what you do and your level of expertise and then there’s also how you’re able to communicate what you do to other people. In the end it always comes down to your ability to communicate your product, your ideas and you vision for the future and to get someone to buy into that with either their time or their money.”
"It’s your tonality and your body language which allows you to be established as someone worth listening to. Certain tones are pleasing to the ear and imply certainty about what you’re saying.”
"The thing with great sales people, top level entrepreneurs and business people is that they’re experts in asking questions and based on that they know how to offer a solution. What do they value? What are their beliefs about buying and making decisions? What’s causing them the most discomfort right now?”
"At a certain point one of the questions I always ask is ‘What is your greatest headache right now?” I wouldn’t ask it first but as I get into deeper and tighter rapport it opens me up to ask those more invasive, troubling questions and if they already sense I’m an expert and a figure of authority they’ll reveal their pain to you.”
“There are certain elements of influence that you have to line up before someone says yes. At the highest level, sales is the transference of emotion. And the primary emotion you’re transferring is certainty.”
Anne, with an elegance of mind and sweetness of character, which must have placed her high with any people of real understanding, was nobody with either father or sister; her word had no weight, her convenience was always to give way– she was only Anne.
Her pleasure in the walk must arise from the exercise and the day, from the view of the last smiles of the year upon the tawny leaves and withered hedges, and from repeating to herself some few of the thousand poetical descriptions extant of autumn–that season of peculiar and inexhaustible influence on the mind of taste and tenderness–that season which has drawn from every poet worthy of being read some attempt at description, or some lines of feeling.
Anne, coming quietly down from Louisa’s room, could not but hear what followed, for the parlour door was open.
“Then it is settled, Musgrove,” cried Captain Wentworth, “that you stay, and that I take care of your sister home. But as to the rest, as to the others, If one stays to assist Mrs. Harville, I think it need be only one. Mrs. Charles Musgrove will, of course, wish to get back to her children; but if Anne will stay, no one so proper, so capable as Anne.”
She paused a moment to recover from the emotion of hearing herself so spoken of. The other two warmly agreed to what he said, and she then appeared.
“You will stay, I am sure; you will stay and nurse her,” cried he, turning to her and speaking with a glow, and yet a gentleness, which seemed almost restoring the past. She coloured deeply, and he recollected himself and moved away.
Dare not say that man forgets sooner than woman, that his love has an earlier death. I have loved none but you. Unjust I may have been, weak and resentful I have been, but never inconstant. Persuasion (2007)
Seen and Unseen: Fitzwilliam Darcy is immediately intrigued by the witty and fiery woman whose causes him to be thrown from his horse. After this first meeting, Darcy realizes that there is more to the spirited Elizabeth Bennet than his first impressions could ever have revealed. (i love the elizabeth from this fic so much. i just want to put her in my pocket. *-*)
Thirteen Days: Thirteen months, thirteen days, two people, one relationship. On an unparticular Monday, two people pass each other on the street. Where are they on that same day next month? And the month after that? (fun fact: i bought the book “one day” because of this fic)

: A modern Pride and Prejudice set in Canada in which Elizabeth works for the government and Darcy is in publishing. It is not JA to the letter (as the author says herself), but it most definitely captures the spirit. Elizabeth has a temper all right, but as in the original, she is honest, has high morals and, in the end, appears to be very loving indeed. (the first p&p smut i ever read. haha)
Darcy’s Voyage: A Tale of Uncharted Love on the Open Seas; In this enchanting and highly original retelling of Jane Austen’s Pride and Prejudice, Elizabeth Bennet sets out for the new world aboard the grand ship Pemberley’s Promise. She’s prepared for an uneventful voyage until a chance encounter with the handsome, taciturn Mr. Darcy turns her world upside down. (this is actually a book but it’s still fanfiction :p)
