mine: peeta mellark

Good night,” I whisper to the bow in my hand and feel it go still. I raise my left arm and twist my neck down to rip off the pill on my sleeve. Instead my teeth sink into flesh. I yank my head back in confusion to find myself looking into Peeta’s eyes, only now they hold my gaze. Blood runs from the teeth marks on the hand he clamped over my nightlock. “Let me go!” I snarl at him, trying to wrest my arm from his grasp.

I can’t,” he says.

There. He’s done it again. Dropped a bomb that wipes out the efforts of every tribute who came before him.

Well, maybe not. Maybe this year he has only lit the fuse on a bomb that the victors themselves have been building. Hoping someone would be able to detonate it. Perhaps thinking it would be me in my bridal gown. Not knowing how much I rely on Cinna’s talents, whereas

Peeta needs nothing more than his wits.

Can I just rant about Peeta Mellark for a moment, because I'm going to...

Peeta was the boy who…

  • Was never expected to survive his first games.
  • …Yet outlived his entire family.
  • Came from an abusive home
  • …Yet still managed to be a loving and caring person
  • Survived two Hunger Games
  • Survived physical and psychological torture at the hands of the Captiol
  • Survived a war where he was often a target
  • Was hijacked into thinking the one person he cared for most in the world was the enemy and tried to kill them
  • Realized what the Capitol did to him and told those around him that he was a Capitol monster that needed to be killed.
  • SURVIVED ALL OF THAT PSYCHOLOGICAL SHIT THAT WOULD MAKE LESSER MEN CURL UP INTO A BALL OF CATATONIA FOR THE REST OF THEIR LIVES
  • OVERCAME SAID PSYCHOLOGICAL SHIT
  • Went back to take care of the person he loved most and help them recover.
  • Went back to a district that had hardly any home left for him and rebuilt an entire life there.
  • Managed to overcome all of the shit he went through and lead a fairly happy life afterwards
  • Surviving all of that when even his own family had written him off for dead.

Outlived many of his friends, outlived his family, had his home bombed, was tortured, survived two PTSD-inducing televised death matches and managed to lead a decent life and help someone else with their recovery…

If you try to tell me that Peeta Mellark is weak, you need to reevaluate your life and your choices.

Hunger Games + Book Moments

“They’re playing with you because you’re so … you know.”

“No, I don’t know,” I say. And I really have no idea what he’s talking about.

“It’s like when you wouldn’t look at me naked in the arena even though I was half dead. You’re so … pure,” he says finally.

“I am not!” I say. “I’ve been practically ripping your clothes off every time there’s been a camera for the last year!”

“Yeah, but … I mean, for the Capitol, you’re pure,” he says, clearly trying to mollify me. “For me, you’re perfect.”
