At the 2014 Sochi Winter Olympic Games, Mao Asada (JPN) became the first woman to attempt eight triple jumps and one of each type of triple, including a triple axel, in a free skate. She received full credit and positive Grades of Execution on four of her seven jumping passes.
“Although I made such a decision, there is absolutely no regret in my skating life. It is a big decision for me, but I take it as a milestone of my life. Moving forward, I will find my new dream and goal, I will keep smiling, and I will keep moving on.” #ThankYouMao
Did you see the look on her [Yuna Kim] face when she found out she didn’t win? It was calm. It was peaceful. This is somebody who is totally aware of how lucky they are. She came with as much a goal to win as to literally help figure skating in her country. So when she says those words [‘I’m just glad it’s over’], it’s kinda hard to believe. Come on! You want to win. But when you see her face, you know she spoke the truth. True sportsman, a humanitarian, and a great leader in our world.
