I’m over being a pop star. I don’t wanna be a hot girl. I wanna be iconic. And I feel like I’ve accomplished a lot. I feel like I’m highly respected, which is more important than any award or any amount of records. And I feel like there comes a point when being a pop star is not enough.

"I see music, it’s more than just what I hear.  When I’m connected to something, I immediately see a visual or a series of images that are tied to a feeling or an emotion, a memory from my childhood, thoughts about life, my dreams or my fantasies.  And they’re all connected to the music. These days people only listen to a few seconds of  a song on their phones and they don't really invest in the whole experience. It's all about the single, and the hype. So much gets between the music and the art and the fans. And I felt like, I don't want anybody to get the message of when my record is coming out. I just want this to come out when it's ready; from me to my fans. And that's what I did.”
